I stopped in here for breakfast before an afternoon Bruins vs. Habs game at the Bell Centre... and by breakfast I mean about 1/2 dozen beers or so.

I was going to go to Peel Pub, but it was packed and my girlfriend wasn't ready for the crowd first thing in the morning.  So we went right next door to République.  Aside from one other guy, we were the only ones there.  Of course him and the bartender were more then happy to give us a ration of smack talk, since we were decked out in our Bruins jerseys.  But it was all in good fun, and we were giving it back as much as we were taking it.

They serve mostly locally brewed beers, and the bartender suggested a Boréale Blonde since I had initially ordered a Molson Export.  I have to say, it was pretty good... and 5 pints later it made for a damn good pre-game breakfast.

We walked into Cafe Republique before starting a Gray Line tour of this excellent city yesterday morning.  Upon letting our server know that we had a 50-minute time window, she said (insert cute French accent here), "Okay, I think we can be friends in 50 minutes!"

The food was great, and everyone enjoyed their selection.  Mom got Oeufs du Florentine (eggs florentine), Pop got Oeufs Benedictine (eggs benedict), and I ordered the Oeufs du Kanuck (basically  a lox bagel w/ scrambie eggs on the side).  Hard to screw up a lox bagel plate, but seriously... Montreal does NOT mess around in the bagel department.  I'd heard that they're better than NYC bagels, and after that one example yesterday, I'm inclined to agree!

Despite our server's cuteness, the service suffered from a bit of absenteeism.  After taking our orders and dropping them off 20 minutes later, we didn't really see her until it was time for the bill.  No check-in.  No "how are we all doing over here?"  In fact, when my mom waved her over she said, "I'm with other customers that are here before you."  There were like 3 tables total.  We saw the water refill guy more often.

If you like solid brunch food, cute (but aloof) service and Enya meets Arabian trance soundtracks while you eat, give this place a shot.  I'd probably go back.

Conveniently located close to St Catherine street and within walking distance of Crescent, this Republique is one of my favorite joints in the area. The service is always quick, bilingual and polite. Portions are plentiful, well-presented and reasonably priced. I like their beer tap selection as well, particularly the Leffe.

Republique cocktails tend to err on the sweet side, which isn't my taste. But if you dig tropical and/or girly drinks, have one because they are delicious.

If you have the white wine sangria you will like it, but you will contribute significantly to the Cafe Republique profits.

So give it a try and be prepared to return.

We've come to Cafe Republique a couple of times in the last couple of months as we are planning our wedding at the Windsor Ballroom next door. It is the perfect place to meet with potential vendors, discuss plans and have a nice espresso. The ambiance is always nice and service is efficient. I like that they have Leffe Blonde on tap too!
