Review from Gira M.
I stopped by this cafe on vacation this morning for my morning necessity - coffee.
I am happy to report that their coffee was perfectly roasted, with only a slightly acidic aftertaste. It is easily comparable to the best coffee in San Francisco (Peet's) as well as the best coffee in Seattle (Vivace).
The barista recommended their pesto sandwich - a layer of pesto on a ciabatta roll, each half covered with a layer of creamy white melted cheese which sandwiched crisp lettuce and a light aioli. The whole thing was toasted to perfection, cut in half and served with a skewered grape on each half.
Sadly, the owner was rude and demanded that I not take any pictures, even of the food. I've been assured by my host that this is a cultural difference between the U.S. and Montreal, but he nearly made me cry.
However, all that said - this sandwich was one of the best things I've ever had the pleasure of putting in my mouth. The ultimate combination of crisp lettuce with an only slightly chewy bun, showcasing the warm melty cheese - highly recommended. I will definitely be back tomorrow for my morning coffee, hopefully I will be able to avoid the owner and may even sneak a picture of the beautifully presented latte.
Minus a star for the rude owner, sadly. :( -
Review from Laura D.
The place is kind of stiff looking, like it could easily be a bar in a hotel lobby. The additional restaurant area makes the place seem very awkward, with only a narrow space remaining in front of the cash.
But we didn't go there to pay, we went there to eat something decent for breakfast. It was already 10:50AM on a Monday morning and so were happy that they the breakfast option was still available. They have a really tiny kitchen and there is no way they could offer lunch and breakfast at the same time.
I ordered their breakfast sandwich (7$), while my boyfriend had the Grand Breakfast (14$). While both included bacon, sausage, and eggs, the sandwich was served on a buttermilk biscuit with melted cheddar cheese. The Grand Breakfast, also included Italian sausage, toast and potatoes.
The breakfast sandwich was quite impressive, with the top half of my biscuit toppling over within minutes of its arrival. It was generously packed with deliciousness. It even had melted cheddar cheese on both sides of the egg and sausage bundle!
The Cafe plate was rudimentary, nothing special, nor would I expect it to be, the beauty of eggs is in their simplicity! The eggs were made as ordered (lightly turned), the bacon was crispy and the potatoes were done to be crispy on the outside and soft inside.
For me, I thought the breakfast sandwich was a better value, at 7$ I got pretty much everything my BF had on his plate, but I got the bonus of the buttermilk biscuit which I felt was quite yummy!
Oh, and they have very very very good coffee, and refill you cuppa regularly, that is a nice touch! Even so, I do agree with some reviewers who say one the owners can be a little rude, but I don't think it is intentional, I think he is just a little terse.
