Another Yelper tipped me off that Cloud 9 Gluten Free would be opening up a location on Commercial Drive, the perfect demographic for gluten free. I walked by this place by chance and upon noticing the Cloud 9 banner outside the establishment, I felt like I hit the jackpot. I was first introduced to Cloud 9 baking when my coworker for my B-day bought me a few gluten free cupcakes all the way from the New West location.
It was difficult for me at first to decipher if this was an actual Cloud 9 coffee shop, however, after further confusing investigation, it turns out to be the Amici Café that carries everything gluten free from the Cloud 9 bakery, including some take home all purpose flour gluten free flour that is used in the pastry.
I am glad that there is some competition now on the drive for gluten free cupcakes, especially since Cassia Cupcakes a few blocks down has disappointed me. I tolerate it for the instant gluten free cupcake fix. Now I don't have to settle, I can get what my taste buds deserve.
I went there during a soccer game, therefore, tables were scarce but still a good atmosphere to sit by the one seaters to enjoy the cozy atmosphere. It's a very small tight location more suitable for quiet coffee dates for two. Just make sure that your conversation is living room friendly since you're sharing close space with others.
The staff were very friendly and very courteous with my inquires.
The prices were very reasonable for both the drinks and the pastries. -

We thought we'd try this place out after a long day with little nourishment. I had the spinach & feta quiche, which had way too much black pepper. It was alright, nothing special here. The server was friendly enough, and everyone around was talking in italian and seemed to be friends.
I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to head back here, but if I needed a quick coffee and a bite I wouldn't dodge it either. -

This cafe makes me feel as though I am in Old Italy. This might be because it is a hang out for Italian men over the age of 65, all whom I secretly wish were my grandpa.
It might be because of the "come in as strangers, leave as friends" signs everywhere, but something about this place gives off a GREAT vibe. The barista's are more personable than usual, and for me, that is what sets this place apart from many of the faster-paced coffee choices. It's a haven- great for studying, people-watching or just catching up over lattes. -

This is Italian Roast Coffee, I haven't been over to Commercial Drive for awhile, I needed a place to meet someone and he picked this establishment, I use to come here a long while ago, it hasn't changed they still have the best coffee on the Drive. 5 stars for the coffee and I like the vibe.

I was meeting someone on the Drive and had a few minutes to kill, so I went here for an espresso. Maybe it was an off afternoon, but if this is the best coffee on the drive, then I'm going downtown for coffee. I liked the atmosphere, but, really, the coffee was just okay.

I popped in here for a quick coffee before meeting up with people, and what a pleasant surprise! I seriously had the best mocha of my life here - the baristas certainly know what they are doing and are very friendly. The front of the coffee shop is filled with small tables and old friends speaking in Italian! The back is reserved for people who want to camp out and study. I'm definitely going to come back here again soon.

Friendly service with interesting drinks. I had a tiramisu latte (just as tasty as it sounds) and my friends had a caramel machiatto covered in whip cream she said it was oh soo good (nice presentation) my husband ended up grabing a strawberry hot chocolate ( with loads of whip cream and it had a chocolate and strawberry drizzel on top ) I had to steal a sip of that one couldn't help myself well worth breaking the diet for.
I had a veggie sandwich grilled to perfection, my friend had a caramel pecan brownie and hubby had a blueberry pecan muffin/ cake thingy.
We enjoyed our day on Commercial Drive and this little coffee shop that doesn't look like much but has interesting artwork which the girl told us changes every 5/6 weeks? (can't remember which) Friendly staff which greats about half the customers by name and the half as sweetie of huney is definatley worth going to.
I look forward to going back and enjoying the patio on sunny days or the amazing cartoons again (while we where there I saw thunder cats, inspector gadget and bugs bunny)
Not to mention it is right beside Santa Barbra so nice way to refuel befor braving the deli line.
