this place is one of the coolest restaurants ever in vancouver.
food is perfect, little pricy but it worth it.
they have polite, beautiful and hot waitresses. which makes u wanna go there again and again :D
if its ur first time going there u better try their calamari which i found the best in town.

I wish I could give 2.5 stars, but generally this place is a solid "MEH" all around.

Servers: Nice enough, but classic case of "wow she's lucky she is pretty." was ignored on the patio a few times, service was slow and things were often forgotten (had to remind her for my $14 glass of wine twice)thus resulting in a lot of "oh i'll be right back" type comments.

Food: Blah. Cactus has tried in the passing years to become a little more "high class". I still view it as slightly nicer pub fare, served on slightly nicer plates. Nothing jumps off the menu at me, and I would highly advise against wasting your money on a steak...

Atmosphere: Saving grace. The patio on Robson is kinda cramped, (but unless your bladder is the size of a walnut and you're constantly annoying your neighboring tables to go to the washroom) its quite nice to people watch.

For a corporate place that's so mainstream and bleeds 'jerseylicious' this place is tops!

I'm not a regular but have gone 5 or so times and really as pretentious as they come off it's quite a nice place with nice staff.

I just went for apps with some girly friends and had 2 top shelf martinis and 2 appys and after tax/tip it was under 50 bucks.

    I'm down for that anytime.

If it wasn't for their West Coast Pocket Trio and their Portobello Fajitas it is likely that I would not dine here.

I am not a huge fan of deep fried food but I should also mention that they do a killer Calamari. Oh and their Tuna Tataki is not too shabby either.

So here I am typing and I had to add another star in spite of their mediocre service and limited menu (for my taste). It appears as though they have a few items that I do quite enjoy for a night of tapas and drinks. In my opinion, if Joeys had their ugly ale and west coast pockets it would be  a hands down loss for Cactus Club every time.  I feel that their entree menu is over priced when compared to their competition (and Joyes has way better service and a more diverse menu).

So even with their killer West Coast Pockets, ugly ale oh and their Key Lime Pie, I think that they fall short. If only Cactus and Joey would marry, it would be the perfect dining experience.

Another company outing: tons and tons of food. Always a perk for me because I get to try out all these things I wouldn't/couldn't order. We ordered *family style (where there's multiple dishes in the middle of the table, and gets passed around, so everyone gets to eat a bit of everything) a bit odd for a western invidiual meal place, but i'm happy i got to try everything :D

    Appies:
Sweet and spicy chicken with crisps. Chicken a bit hard, but love the crips.
Flatbread with arugula, goat cheese, and balsamic.. DELICIOUS! I think I can make a meal out of eating that alone. Props to Rob Feenie!! Canada's first IRON CHEF!
    Wings.. Meh. very meh.
Mini burger Sliders... Good but No wow factor.

Tried almost all entrees too lol
Butternut squash is a must try and always been my personal favorite at cactus club, which is also RobFeenie's dish. I either order this, or their jambalaya rice bowl.
Steak? At Cactus club? why? boo!
    Short ribs.. Tasty but ok.
Quesadilla.. All the condiments were meh.
Salmon soft but flavor meh. Pasta meh.

    Desserts:
Lava cake, Cheesecake, limepie, and peanutbutter bar. Maybe I was too full by then, cause none of us finished any. But all in all good.

    Service:
Maybe because we were a fairly large group (14), but I felt pretty rushed. And we never had the opportunity to finish any of our entree's or dessert. Server didn't ask if we were done with our entrees. And when I asked, she said she's making room for dessert, because *boss man was starting to make orders. But later that night, *boss man wife came over and said that she wasn't able to have the opportunity to finish the meal. So that was very odd! Desserts were the same thing. She wanted to clear everything that was only half eaten. Good thing I asked for a box this time, and packed all the left over cake! Will indulge at a later time :)

I would dock a star off because of the service, But i'm just a fan of cactus club in general. Good food, decent price, classy bathrooms!

I won't patronize this restaurant. They are simply not good neighbours. We've tried addressing multiple issues with the restaurant and corporate head office and they just ignore our letters, phone calls and emails.

Stay away from this dirty, uncivil, overpriced and sexist restaurant.

Update June 28: the bad reviews got attention this time with an immediate phone call from the manager ...the dumpster has been cleaned up and I hope the other problems in the past don't reoccur. Still not a place I ever want to eat at but at least they responded.

We stopped here for lunch without knowing what it would be like because it seemed like a happening place with tons of people eating there.

Everything was just kind of average. Typical food--nothing amazing and nothing below average. The waitress was nice, the environment is kind of sports-bar-y, and the food came out fast. Prices might even be on the steep side ($15 for a small sandwich and handful of fries).

We liked our food, but were underwhelmed.

Went here on a Saturday night - getting a seat w/ no reservation was a little tough, but we managed to squeeze our party of 9 into a bar booth and a few extras sitting at the bar.
Bartender was really friendly and made some delicious drinks.  Even gave us a free sample of the frappacino smoothie drink.  Honey lager there is great!
In terms of food - must haves: dry ribs - AWESOME!  And calamari - a huge portion and a yummy spicy sauce to accompany.  We ordered at least 5 plates of the ribs - so awesome!
My friends really loved their burgers too - but I didn't try them.
Sort of loud and crowded, but a fun going out kind of place.

I met a couple of sister goddesses for dinner before a gala show recently and because they were from out of town, I wanted to impress them with the best big salad in the city. I suggested we meet at Cactus on Robson.

It was perfect. We all ordered the Raincoast Salad, and substituted the grilled chicken for grilled salmon.

Ooooh, they were duly impressed! The service was so good that we didn't notice a thing and were able to completely immerse ourselves in each others' loveliness while we enjoyed our meal!

This place was fine. As per usual at all the Vancouver eateries and drinkeries we visited the staff are insanely good looking. But the overall feeling of this place was just 'eh'. On the plus side, however, was the sangria. THAT was one tasty drink. Went down waaay too easy.

Had to return because I was going out with a bunch of friends, and since it was right along Robson, why not....? I also wanted to update this review as well.

Went back again, this time the food was so much better. The service of the place and the vibe was much more enthusiastic and welcoming. I enjoyed it a lot. The only thing that stayed the same was the skimpy dresses. Okay have to say something here. It seems like only this branch that has the problem with the clothes. I am not kidding. I love Catcus Club a lot because of their food, and the "safety net" (knowing what I want) but this place has the most "HRM" for dress code. Please respect yourself as waitresses...

Anyways, I had a great time. It was not THAT bad, neither was it THAT good. It was a perfect middle ground. I feel a lot better this time.

Guys, Hot waitresses work here! :D  Cactus Club Cafe in Canada is like the equivalent of HOOTERS in USA except the girls in Cactus Club look classier and more beautiful because they dress a bit more conservatively :)  Personally I think their uniforms are hotter (they wear a small black dress) because I don't like bright orange shorts heehe.  Some of their waitresses look like models :D Anyway I can go on and on but ,

I had an apple pie and some kind of wine (I forgot) with my date after our Italian dinner and I had soooooooo much fun!  He showed me around downtown Vancouver and I fell in love with this place.   We talked about a lot of things and my night was wonderful!  I love the ambiance here, dark, and the dessert was pretty good.

Remember to check out their bathrooms it reminds me of a bathroom in a really high end clubbing place or in a swanky top notch hotel!   Girls, there are sofas so if you want to gossip in the bathroom, you can do that.  =P

Overall a great place to dine surrounded by beautiful waitresses with beautiful uniforms...black dresses are better than orange shorts anyday.

Cactus Club is earls' competitive twin brother.  These restaurants are indistinguishable.  They even go almost shot for shot with opening new restaurants.  It feels like jealousy, "whaaaa earls has a new restaurant, aahhhh I want a new one"!  And so on and so fourth.

The food is good, the decor is tasteful, the staff are hot.  Sound like earls? It is? Personally I prefer earls for the wood stove oven in which they prepare pizza.  I tend to veer clear of chain restaurants, but were I to go to one, this is on the list of carbon copies.

Moxies, Joeys, earls, Cactus Club.  What's the difference?  They're probably all owned by Disney anyway.

Out of all the chain restaurants around, Cactus Club has to be one of the best.

My last visit to C.C. was on a sunny, Saturday afternoon, and unlike my last experience at Earls, we were greeted as soon as we walked through the door, the staff seated us right away, and I had a Caesar in my hand without having to give any of the servers the stink-eye.

The food is always consistently quite good. When I go into any of the Cactus Clubs around town I know that I'm going to get a decent meal. And now that celebrity chef Rob Feenie has taken over the Cactus Club's kitchen you'll find dish newer and more creative then your standard fare. That being said, I'm still a big fan of their J.D. bbq burger, just don't eat it on a date because it has to be one of the messiest sandwiches I've ever had.

Knocks against C.C.? Well, they are a chain so don't expect to get the same level of service and individuality that you would at a small independent restaurant. Noise!!! Seriously, it was a sunny Saturday afternoon, the World Cup was on TV, but yet the horrible bar-star dance music was still thumping way, way. too loud. I'm there to eat and try to carry on a conversation; are they hoping a dance party is spontaneously going to break out in the middle of the room?

The Cohiba goes down in 2.5 seconds flat. A freshly made blackberry mojito? Yes please, I'll take 8.
Na, I just had one, but I coulda easily taken down 8 in under an hour.

There are a few drinks that come out of slushy machines, like the Bellini and the Frapp. These sound nice, but I have a hard time justifying paying 7 or 8 bucks for a slightly alcoholic slushy.

    Just sayin'.

Service was fantastic, atmosphere was pleasant, the drink I had was fresh and dangerous: all in all, a boon to my BC adventures.

Ambiance = the dining room crowd, but probably a bit more flare the outside
Food = Salmon Burger was surprising good!  two thumbs up.  But man can make a Jack and Coke!
Crowd = Ppl just like me!  j/k
    Price = $$
Favorite = On Robson outdoor seating, hot waitress, decent food, double jack and coke.  What's not to like!
    Worst = Not totally effortless
    Price for two = 35 w/o drinks
Final Say = The Cactus Club Cafe on Burrard is way nicer, hotter waitress as well!  Good luck!

Like many other reviewers, i had a gift card. I am very potentially just not pretty enough for this place, and that's kinda crappy, but welcome to the part of Vancouver where everyone's from Southern California or wants to be. They're *not* this picky in Surrey...but then you're in Surrey.

So we got a crap table, even though my dining companion was far prettier, and their beer selection is mindnumbingly poor. The tuna tataki was eh okay. Fresher tuna would have been nice. The short rib sandwich was pretty good; that's what i had and i wasn't disappointed. Would have gone great with, you know, anything from Granville Island Brewing, or, hell, a freakin Moosehead.

Joey's and Earl's at least have some amount of beer on tap. They're thus far less bad, really. I did at least get rid of the giftcard, so that's a small favor; it was pretty easy to do given how comically overpriced this place is.

This is where people come to people watch. To check out the people who are strutting their stuff down Robson St.

The decor is chic and hip which is appropriate for the location. Unfortunately the waitstaff here all seem to act like they're in LA. Aspiring actors/models with a little too much attitude and that air of pretentiousness.

Other than that however, the food is consistent with all their other locations providing decent food. However I have always found their menu to be a little limited and would much prefer the Milestones or Earls menu which offers a similar style of food.

Catch up night yesterday with my girlfriend and we decided to stop at Cactus after a little window shopping... I haven't been into the Robson Cactus for over 2 years... thinking about the first time my bf took me to get yam fries when we were still dating coast to coast :)

Anyways...... it was bellini night, so I'm in.... but unfortunately, it was liquid sugar.. blah. I like my moxie Wednesday night back at home when there is good slush, and good taste, and the same price for double the size.

I wanted to get the yam fries... becuase I love them.. but also remember the last time I ate them here and how unimpressed I was... well back to today's menu:

Friend said that the best thing on the menu is the chicken pesto quesadilla... with the yogurt curry sauce... also we got the calamari with aioli and tzatiki....

It was nice of the waitress to split up our quesadillas into two separate plates. I'm not going to the lie, it was pretty good.. not overly cheesy and pretty tasty.

But the bads, following the super sweet bellini continued.... the calamari was so small I felt like I was tasting fried batte onlyr. The sauces were uninspiring and did not compliment the calamari at all. The waitress asked if my friend's plate was finished as it was at the edge of the table.. and then started taking away the sauces of the few pieces left on our calamari plate when we were only referring the ONE plate.
I know that mistakes like that happen.. but still I think it was bad judgement.
Sometimes Cactus can be good. Calamari, I'll get somewhere else, thanks.

I like the Cactus Club restaurants despite it being part of a chain of restaurants. I love the yam fries and instead of ordering my usual steak, I decided to have the spaghettini. It was ok but I've definitely has better. The broadway location's spaghettini tastes a lot better than this location. Their ginger fizz drink is very good though, as a non-alcoholic option. It tastes a bit like the flirtini (because of the blackberry (?)). Eh, I prefer the broadway location.

Some people have mentioned the loudness factor and I'll chime in  because yeah man, it's loud. If I can barely hear the servers then we've got issues. Or rather, they've got issues. I just want a Bellini please thanks.

I've only been to this location twice and both times I've felt slightly uncomfortable. There are other locations around town that provide you with a more relaxed atmosphere. Their server dress code is ridiculous; are those tight black shorts uncomfortable, miss? Do you think I will tip you better since you look a helluva lot better in them than I would? I can see the appeal in men so whatevs.

I have yet to try their food but the photos on their website look delish. I think Chef Feenie took it to a better level of sophistication when he took over the place and that's something to appreciate.

Decor needs an update, seriously. Nothing has been changed in there in over a decade. It's just not on par with their other locations.

Went to this CCC for just the second time in six years thanks to a gift card that had been burning a hole in my wallet. The food is better but a tad too simple and plain. The worst is the level of noise. Middle of the day during a weekday and I don't what it was but the acoustics in this location are horrid. It was just a racket of people talking as sound on TVs was off and music was barely audible.

I don't mind a lively restaurant at all but it was just a wall of noise. I felt I was deposited onto the couch of "The View."

I prefer Earls across the street.

The Hooters of Canada.    Just done in a tasteful and much more subtle, Canadian way.

The food here is all quite good, if a little expensive.   I highly suggest the Jambalaya which is indeed very tasty but strangely not very Jambalaya like.  Indeed the Jambalaya is served with chopsticks:  did someone not tell them that chopsticks are not used in the Caribbean?   Probably did this intentionally to be 'edgy' or something.

The main problem I have with Cactus Club (other than the transparent pandering to the male psyche) is that it represents an instance of the homogenization of food by chain restaurants.  No variety, everything stamped out and mass produced for the consumers.   We lose something important with too many of these sorts of restaurants around.

Well whatever I guess, people seem to like it.

I appreciate a locale with great food, a view of the locals folks and ambiance which makes it comfortable to be yourself. My wife and I dined here and had a great meal.  The food's flavor was fantastic.  The appetizer and main course were both on par with expectations.

The waitress was loopy and insincere.  She did not provide the service one would expect from this very nice restaurant.  She was very conversational when I was paying for the meal and tip percentage was a prompt the credit card payment.  The drinks were average.  Of course, this is a single incident and not indicative of the owner's intended service.

    Overall, 3 stars.

    Enjoy Vancouver!

Dinner here on a Saturday night during the Olympics.....it was pretty busy natch....so we put our name in.....walked down to see The Torch and like magic our table was ready when we got back.....

Our group of four were seated outside on the covered patio and under some heat lamps.....our server was ador-a-ble! Super sweet and totally on the ball.

We ordered some drinks off the specialty menu....flirtini....mojito....they were both way too sweet.....like kool-aid sweet....blech....but the food was decent.

We got a bunch of apps for the table to share....mini burgers...which were exceptional.....wings....which I didn't touch and chicken tenders which were def above average.

I got the Rocket Salad as my main.....baby arugula with tomatoes, cucumber, panko breaded chicken and lemon caper dressing. This was a good salad and certainly large enough for an entree but def could have been better if 1. the chicken would have been cut up 2. the cucumbers weren't so damn chunky.......with all that wispy arugula the accoutrements need to be in proportion....they weren't....but the flavors were there so I was happy in the end.

Trendy atmosphere.....dim lights......sexy people.....loud pop music.....pa pa pa pa pa pa pa pa poker face......def a pre-night out destination.....

Stopped by for an early dinner (and some gossip!) with a girfriend after strolling through Robson...We went in around 5:00 because we both didn't have lunch and didn't want to end up waiting for an outrageously long time for a table when the crowds start dining.

Ambiance: We wanted a patio table but there were only around 4 patio tables and they were all filled...so we decided to dine inside.  Inside, it was really dark and noisy but lots of tables.  A couple TVs with a bar.  the only thing that was weird was the decor.  There were some gold framed paintings (from the 18th century?) that were hung haphazardly on the walls and some neon lighted words on the walls that said some really random things.  strange.

Food: Both of us got the grilled salmon sandwich and it was quite amazing!  A generous portion of perfectly grilled and juicy steelhead salmon was encased in a crispy and soft roll with tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and a dallop of dijon tartar sauce.  I was soooooo glad that the salmon was not dry at all!  It was flaky and juicy!  It came with a side of fries (which were also really good- thin cut potatoes fried perfectly and seasoned with sea salt) or you can change it to a side a greens, caesar salad, or yam fries for $1.50.

Service: I only took away one star because of the so-so service...I mean, our waitress was nice and waitresses there are all quite aesthetically pleasing...but my cup was not refilled with water even when it was completely empty and it took a super long time to get change back even though the restaurant was less than half full.

Value:  The total with tax and tip came to about $37 for both of us.  It is a little pricey but it is in downtown and the quality of the food was worth it.

All in all, we enjoyed the food immensely and I will definitely return only for the food though.

I have made the trip to eat at Cactus Club, many a time.  I feel as though there's some sort of standard that the hostesses and servers need to meet before being hired here...sort of like "you must be reasonably pretty and slightly snotty".  Kind of like Joey's, no?

The food is always good.  I enjoy the spicy pastas that always seem to be on the menu, and without a doubt, the BELLINIS!  This was the first place that I tried a bellini many years ago...and they never fail to serve a good one up!

Since it's right in the middle of Robson, you can sit in the outdoor patio area and people watch too...if that's your thing.

I'm going to review this simply based on 'which cactus club is least oppresively annoying'. Just rating cactus club overall I'd probably lean much quicker to a 3-star review. It's just 'meh'. the food isn't insanely good, but not bad and there's an air of pretension that isn't necessary. That said, this location has some things going for it.

This location doesn't feature the massive line and wait that the Burrard one does. Granted, it's about as busy as most places along Granville but being smaller and less fancy people shy away and it's actually quite easy to get a booth. The size also helps it be a little more intimate and less brash than most Cactus clubs.

In fact this is probably one of the friendliest, quietest cactus clubs there is if you head inside. Most of the annoying people want to be seen on the patio so if you sit up by the kitchen you can have a few drinks and enjoy yourself no problem.

Normally, I dont recommend heading to a Cactus Club but if you're on Granville and are just looking for food and no hassle, this place is a pretty good option.

    Atmosphere: **
    Service: ***
    Food: ***
    Price: **

    Atmosphere:
Nothing special at all about this place. A big bar on the side, with tons of booths.

    Service:
Friendly staff, attentive.  There was a baby in our group, they were enamored.

    Food:
Both my girlfriend and I had chicken tenders.  They were panko breaded with a sweet chili sauce.  I had the yam fries which were very tasty, very sweet.  Food was good, but nothing special either. We had potato skins for an appetizer and they seemed to be a bit oily, more than usual.

    Price:
Expensive for what you get. The chicken tenders were only about $10, so that was fair...but everything else on the menu was $16-$20...perhaps because it was located on Robson Street. Either way, there are many better places than Cactus Club Cafe to spend your hard earned $$$ on.

    Bottom line:
Not worth the money. I wouldn't go back.

As with most Cactus Clubs, there is no lack of pretty faces, Hollywood attitudes and luckily, good food!  Our waitress was actually devoid of any pretension but I've been when this hasn't been the case and its merely an opportunity to be thankful your friends aren't full of themselves.  The fish tacos are top-notch and they make great cocktails any day of the week.

They have great happy hour specials.  Save a dollar on all martinis one day a week.  I love the different varieties of martinis.  All made with real fruit.   The hot wings are really really good here.  I wanted to eat here everyday I was visiting. But my boyfriend and I agreed to try out different places everyday.  Between 4 & 8pm I think a pound of wings is only $8.

I'm not usually a fan of any chain restaurants and when I go out I usually prefer something other than burgers or steak.  Today my wife and I wanted to try something a little different.  I didn't have high expectations. I  figured Cactus Club Cafe would just be another version of Milestones, but I was pleasantly surprised.  We started with the flat-bread starter and it was great.  I chose Rob's Hunter Chicken and my wife had a saffron halibut dish.  They were both wonderful.  The portion of chicken was generous and the mushroom sauce was very delicious(strong, but delicious).  The side vegetables were very fresh, crispy, and perfectly cooked.
My wife's halibut dish was great too.  It wasn't quite as in-your-face as the chicken dish but the blend of flavors was great.  The halibut was served on a bed of pasta mixed with vegetables.  The pasta was light, creamy, and you could taste the halibut it was cooked with.  It was great.
The service was great and my wife and I will definitely be going back.  It's not cheap, but all in all you get what you pay for.  I would definitely lean towards the Cactus club over similar choices such as the Keg and Milestones.

Great Place, Maybe not the best lunch place but good never the less

Found this place with friends on Robson before heading back to the States. Place was a bit stuffy for lunch. The waitresses were wearing all black cocktail dresses except for the manager (I'm assuming) She had a pink cocktail dress. Setting a very sexy mood for lunch. Would be ok for a guys night out pre funk dinner vibe but for a Sunday lunch, it was odd. Felt very underdressed but F it, I was hungry. The food was good.Burgers were on point. Service was ok. Prices on the high side but I think you pay more for the urban chicness vs anything. Maybe I'm not to a place to go to a fancier place for lunch. Most everyone in there was t shirt and jeans crowd. I think this is a place more suited for a dinner/supper club. Another thing which is odd is that the servers bring over a credit card machine to close out your bill. You have to type in your tip in front of your server if you pay with a credit card. That definitely put me off but when in rome... When I'm back in Vancouver, I would go back for dinner but probably not for lunch.

It's a comfy little bar/cafe.   Had some happy hour Margaritas and some sliders to quench a little late night hunger.  The burgers were good and juicy and the drinks were a little cheap.  It wasn't too busy there but I was thrown in the back corner away from the action and near the kitchen station.  Not the most ideal seat, but whatever really.  It was a little spendy, seems like it's trying to be fancier than it really is.
