Sure as the sun sets in the West  I also find myself constantly defending Cactus Club. Most of the comments seem based in lumping them in with the whole chain hatred thing. The other is aimed straight at the clothing ( or lack of) the staff wears. It's rare that anyone really gives me a straight answer on the quality of their food or service they receive. Both of which are quite excellent.  Such is my life, where others get into political debates I find myself on the end of an argument over a place that sells bellinis.

I am nothing if not consistent in my food picks. If i like one thing at a place it's not often I stray too far. One reason is I'm not stupid. Red Robin is for burgers and spirits. Not lasagna. So while I am fully aware of the fine choices they have at el Club du Cacti I have ordered the same thing for 12 years. Jack Daniels BBQ burger. Fries. Garlic mayo. Extra sauce on the side. in those years I have never had a bad meal. Never off once. Never an order screwed up. I can't say the same for many others. Even my most loved places to eat do not always come through.

The service has always been excellent. There's always a fresh coke with lime dropped off before I've finished the last one. I always leave feeling like i got my moneys worth. I hope you're reading this Whitespot.

Retro is a understatement, it creates it's own essence that shows you the way of Americans. It brings you closer to harley davidsons and wendy then any other cafe. But my friends don't be fooled by the name it's not like any cafe you can imagine norclub. It's a sweet fusion of the two that make the ambience. Dress up or down, family dinner or nite out with the girls/boy, the chocolate lava cake will send your senses soaring sky high!
Exceptional customer service, and view for both parties...
Tip: as a British resident I must say the British tea was the closest taste of home I experienced in vancouver.
A personal favourite by far and a place I hope to be able to go to for years to come.

I would love to write a rave review for this location. Service is up to Cactus standards, it's kinda funky kinda hip inside. The menu is good.

However when I went for some vino and dessert the other night two things got to me.

1. My rose was off. I should have said something, didnta... I share blame.
2. They were AWESOME in offering me gelato and berries as a dessert as they have no gluten-free dessert on menu. That totally score points. What doesn't score points for me: being advised that "most of the girls working here" have a gluten allergy (1% of the population gluten intolerance, and I'm sure they don't all work at Cactus, I know I don't - and I get really pissed off about people lieing about it). And then, when bringing my gelato making a massive ordeal that they have ensured it's gluten free (not my waitress, the waitress was great). Okay. The waitress checked. I'm cool with that. I trust you to not dip cake directly into it.  The massive ordeal kinda made the whole thing conspicious, and I try to be discrete about it.

I would go back for sure, they are friendly and the food is good. I just have to walk in knowing I'll probably be annoyed just a little bit.

I really like Cactus Club, especially the ambience. The patio is great both outdoors and the glassed in area. Nice and dark inside.
If you haven't had a spiked frap yet you don't know what you are missing. Mmmmm they just slide right down.
Bellinis aren't bad either. Now that we are at so is the Green Apple Martini. I could go on.
The thai chicken wings are too die for. I recommend them and while you are at you have to have the yam fries with dip to go with them. Yummy!!
Yup I like Cactus Club

The Cactus Club isn't really anything to write home about. It's typical North American food served in an esthetically pleasing manner, all in a sleek "urban bar" atmosphere, which all makes for slightly overpriced food, if you ask me.

It reminds me a lot of Moxie's, which isn't one of my favorite restaurants. It's dark with dim lighting inside, and there are dark leather booth seats. Light-colored ceramic warriors (like Emperor guards) stand at attention throughout corners of the restaurant. I think they're going for a sexy, urban appeal mixed with Zen.

The food is alright, and there's a lot of different fusion cuisines here. After coming here a few times, I stuck with the quesadillas after awhile. They're safe because they're pretty good, but they won't knock your socks off or anything.

This location has a nice open patio in the summer. It's nice to sit out here on a hot day, and eat while the Cactus Club terra cotta soldiers stare at you. It's also a good location for a group outing. I've been here many times with a large group of friends, and we've always been able to find seating. But in the end, it's still only somewhere I'd go if someone else picked the venue, and I was too polite to argue.

I have to admit that I wouldn't have gone here for lunch except that I was invited to join a group of friends.  The experience was slightly better than I expected.
The service was great.  They made accommodations for things like my preference for the yam fries instead of the mashed potatoes with my steak.  (The fries were good and the steak was perfect!  So much so that the rest of my party decided to order what I had...did I mention that I was so hungry that I ordered and started eating before the rest of the gang arrived ???).  The cute little sliders were good, too.
Someone even asked for a smoothie (which isn't on the menu) and the waitress brought her exactly what she wanted with the rest of our drinks.
The desserts weren't bad, either ...for a chain.  Overall, the food was great (although just slightly overpriced), the bathrooms clean and there were no complaints about the service.
The only downside was that we were sitting next to the window and it was sunny outside.  What, you are asking, is the downside to this ??  A couple of people were facing the window and had the sun shining DIRECTLY into their eyes.  We asked the waitress to pull the blinds down just a tad, but apparently, the window coverings were not movable.  Alas, the 2 "non-complainers" just ate the rest of their meals wearing shades and looking cool.

i've only been to one other cactus club, out on robson. i don't recall how my meal went but that's probably because i was more focused on drinking that time. haha. this time i was actually here for dinner. we split some "hot" wings for an appetizer. i guess that metric system has me confused up there cause the "hot" was only mild at best. they have 2 other options (thai! and extra hot) but what you really oughta know is it's a seperate charge for celery and bleu cheese (wtf?!). silly canucks! for dinner i got the JD bbq ribs. it was a full slab (if a bit small) and about on par with tony roma's (RIP). my buddy ordered their burger sans cheese but, while they were makin' it they accidentally kept the cheese on. they caught the mistake before they served it but they had to re-do the burger for him so it took a bit longer. the waiter came and informed my pal about the problem and that it would be just a couple minutes longer. his huge burger (made correctly this time) came out in less than ten min and they told him it would be gratis because of the wait! that's great service from a chain restaurant! on the other hand, our other pal with us had the shortrib sammich and that joint was hella sheisty looking. it was more of a half sammich, in my book. haha. he said it was tasty and though i offered him some of my ribs, he said he was full. what a lame! i think i woulda just been angry at that sammich but that's just me cause i'm a fat guy. oh and on a side note, the waitresses were pretty hot there.
