Tasty food but even better service!
From the moment I entered for takeout, I felt like a VIP. Not bad when you couple it with a great lunch. -

Good fish and chips - oh and huge portions! Reasonably priced pitchers of beer too which is always a nice surprise.
I tried the deep fried oysters which were delicious. The cod burger was also yum - very well cooked. The halibut dinner was good, I like halibut, but with cod on the menu I personally wouldn't have gone for the halibut.
My only two teensy weensy issues were the chips, I may be wrong but they tasted frozen...as in, they were cooked the whole way through, but they were just lacking that freshness, so I don't think prepared on site. And #2, the batter was thick, very American style but not very British.
All in all I'll recommend this place. -

The first time I went to C-Lovers 7 years ago, I loved it. I thought their batter was nice and light and that their tartar sauce was very good. I remember going back to this particular location several times. the last time was about a year or so ago when we took relatives from out of town who were craving fish and chips.
Sad to say that on my last visit on Tuesday last week, my family and I were very disappointed. We went for the all you can AYCE fish and chips with bottomless pop. I think money-wise, it was a good deal for $11.95. Sad to say that was all that was good about it.
Service was alright. We received our orders promptly and the food was served nice and hot.
The fish tatsed like it was fried in stale oil. No matter how light and crispy the batter was, the flavour of the oil ruined the taste of the fish for me. The tartar suace that I used to love lacked flavour. It tasted like straight up mayo. I had to add a bit of vinegar and salt to it to give it some zip.
Service was alright. We received our orders promptly and the food was served nice and hot.
Because of this experience, I don't think we wouldbe going back to C-Lovers for fish and chips anymore. -

Most definitely, hands down, the best fish and chips place in Vancouver. I've been to quite a few of em, and this is the place that I keep thinking about whenever I get a hankering for some good ol' fish n chips.
The batter is perfectly crisp, and is much lighter than the other places I've been to. The light batter doesn't engulf the fish's taste, and it doesn't fall off the meat. Onion rings and oysters....delicious! And gigantic! And I always say that a good down home restaurant can be defined on how their fries are, and C-Lovers fries are done just right...!
Let's face it, fish n chips will always be oily. But because of the thin batter that they use, it's not nearly as oily as the other heavier battered fish n chip places, that leave you feeling like an oil tanker.
My favourite has always been the North Van Platter (or C-Lovers Platter, in other branches apart from the one in North Vancouver), which has a little bit of everything that I like. I'm not too fond of the price hike since I first started coming here, but it's definitely worth it. After all, I don't think it's a good idea to be eating fish n chips more than once a week (maybe two time's at the most), so the prices are quite affordable for a treat.
You want fish n chips while you're in Vancouver? C-Lovers is the place to go. -

The food was really good and not as pricey as the other places around it. The halibut was light and fluffy. Their special sauce is so good.

Absolutely the best fish and chips I have had in the Vancouver area. For about $7.00 I got the one piece cod and chips, and I could have easily split it with a friend. The chips are homemade, the fish is fresh, the pieces of fish are large, the batter is perfect and not too thick or falling off. Nothing is oversalted. It has a decent sit down area, but of course for fish and chips I almost felt I had to do take-away.
The menu is fairly limited to fish and chips, but they had halibut and cod. Also some oyster and prawn dishes that did not interest me.
Overall, if you're in the area, a must try. If you're not, it's worth a drive. -

Should not have ordered the all you can eat fish and chips. I assumed that it would be cod fish but it was not it is Pollock which I found to be dry and plain tasting. I wish they would say this on their menu, maybe I missed it somewhere.
The onion rings and fries were really good but I wish I would have ordered the cod and fries instead of the all you can eat. -

This is one good place for some fried fish! I remember hearing, and trying these guys acouple years back at a booth at the PNE. I thought it was good there, and then I got to try it at one of their many locations around town, and this is way better than there frying truck at the fair!
Hidden along Marine Drive in North Vancouver behind the Church's Chicken, this place is not cheap, and the day I was there, the food didn't even come out fast, but I will say it was fresh for freshly fried and hot out of the fryer! We did not stay to eat, but noticed that many were here for a sit in lunch, and looking up at the chalkboard menu, they were probably here for the "All you can eat" Fish & Chips for $10.99. I do not know how mucn you can eat of this stuff, really, but if you can eat, I guess this is a deal.
We had two pieces of regular Fish and Chips, with a side of coleslaw, and as with any place you do take out for this stuff, it's wrapped in the classic paper, then newspaper. The fish was nice and tender, and they didn't over batter the fish, like some places. I probably will come again if I'm craving a greasy meal. -

We stopped at C-lovers to grab a parcel of fish 'n chips to take with us on a picnic at Cleveland Dam (the bottom of Grouse Mountain).
The staff were a young team of friendly guys and gals and although we didn't eat in, the dining room seemed clean and pretty comfortable for a fish 'n chip joint.
The prices seemed a little high for me ($12.95 for 2x haddock and chips?) but I totally admit that I may be in a time-warp when it comes to fish 'n chip prices.
Fish 'n Chips were a Friday staple throughout my child hood in New Zealand and the expression "cheap as chips" was correct - you could feed the whole family for $15! BUT, that was a solid 20 years ago so I'll cut them some slack.
The haddock we got was nice and fresh and firm, the chips (fries, ok...fries!!) were OK, not great but I have certainly had worse.
I did sample the "Oyster Burger" - 3 deep friend oyster served in a bun with coleslaw. Kind of crazy, fairly yummy, definitely give them points for originality!
Overall, C-Lovers was A-OK. Nothing to write home about, but certainly no complaints. -

Amazing new location on Denman Street and the food was top-notch! Had the haddock dinner and loved it. Batter is thin & crispy. Coleslaw was simple and traditional (not fancied up with crap). Staff are very friendly. One complaint though...they need some kind of fresh dessert to offset the meal like fruit Sorbetto! :)

C-Lovers is a great place when you need your grease fix!!
The Crowd - It feels like a Senior Citizen's Dining Room - many older folks - white and gray heads all around - a few families too.
Decor - Simple, Clean, and straightforward. Not much of an atmosphere - but hey! - you are there for the Fish and Chips!!
Service - Young servers - mainly females! No five star service - but they do just fine!
The Food - Awesome batter for the fish, light, crispy - almost like a tempura batter. Halibut is generally the BEST!! The Cod is good too! On Tuesday and Sunday Evenings - it is all you can eat including a beverage!! For that they use slender pieces of Pollock!! Still good - when you haven't eaten for days!! Fries are fresh - peeled on site!
They also feature Onion, Rings, Mushy Peas, Fried Prawns, etc.
Overall - when you are after a good feed of Fish and Chips - C- Lovers hits the SPOT! -

Always come here for all you can eat fish and chips. The fish is crispy and the fries are homemade. Ice tea is bottomless. Everything is delicious.

After some searching and seeing it mentioned in the Straight's Golden Plate Awards issue, we decided to give C-Lovers Fish and Chips a shot.
Luckily, it was Sunday just before 7pm, so the $9.95 bottomless fish, chips and drink special was going.
Now we've had some of the best fish & chips in the world, and while these aren't the absolute greatest, they're pretty damn good and an amazing value if you're hungry and into fryolated goodness.
But what really set C-Lovers apart was the service. Our server was incredibly nice and attentive, even though every table in the place was full and she was running around like crazy. The staff actually worked as a team and the other servers who brought us things here and there were just as friendly and nonplussed by the big crowd. After reading some reviews and seeing how busy it was, I expected ho-hum service at best, but the ladies on tonight went out of their way to make us feel welcome, like their customers were no trouble at all and they were happy to be there.
In short, I'm not sure if there's a better value than C-Lover's bottomless fish and chips meal. For just about the cost of pretty lousy fast food, you get as much fresh fish, fries and soft drink as you're hungry and thirsty for as well as big tip-worthy service. -

I have eaten a good range of fish and chips, and even though there tends to be more miss than hit, I still keep trying. Aside from a little place in London, this is the best I have found, and has been consistently good for years. Cockney Kings is not far behind, but C-Lovers gets their batter just right!
