Clark and Lauren made our first stay in a bed and breakfast an amazing on to say the least. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
The wife reserved the Butler's Master suite for our anniversary, a one of a kind room decked out in Sticks custom furniture. As you enter the House through the rear you cannot help but notice the amazing attention to detail that the Smiths have given. As Clark welcomed us into their home the architectural wonders held within blew us away; unique plaster ceiling, paneled walls, rich tones of woodwork and perfect furniture placement.
We walked back into a more innocent time with each step to our suite. Our room consisted of an enormous main sleeping area with comfortable bed carved with birds and bees surrounded by an infinite amount of windows, a Jacuzzi room and a bathroom.
Not once did we feel as if we were in a hotel, it felt as if we were at home.
After a perfect night's sleep we descended into the dining room where we were served a breakfast that one would only find in a fine bistro, one that was run by Midwesterners with enough hospitality to be contagious.
I highly recommend Clark and Lauren's Butler House on Grand. -

My husband and I stayed at the Butler House on our way from Chicago to Austin, TX. We arrived later than planned but we were treated warmly. The house has a very positive and cozy feeling to it. Breakfast was scrumptious; a special french toast recipe with yummy strawberries with orange creme! We enjoyed the breakfast conversation with Lauren about books, writing and publishing as I am a writer. If you are traveling through Iowa or need a break from the day to day I recommend this B&B! Our room was spacious, thoughtfully decorated and spotless. Enjoy!

Kansas City, MO
We stayed at the Butler House in August 2009 and were very happy with our experience. For less than the cost of a room at any big chain hotel in town, we got a room with tons of character, a delicious breakfast, and truly outstanding customer service.
Bed piled high with super-soft linens and pillows? Check. Plush towels and local handmade soap in the bathroom? Check. Cool downstairs living room with a well-chosen library of novels, useful books on local attractions, games, and movies? Check.
Hosts Clark and Lauren were fantastic, providing very helpful restaurant recommendations and directions around town. I would definitely stay here again. -

Four of us stayed here for several days while visiting the gf's relatives in De Moines. It is a very nice little B&B with probably a dozen rooms run by a husband and wife (with some help from their kids). Each room was designed by a different local designer/artist and has its own unique features. The room I stayed in had a jacuzzi and was awesome. Turn down service every night with delectable chocolates. Lauren made us breakfast every day, each time some unexpectedly delicious midwestern delicacy that I had never heard of. Although she will pretty much whip up pretty much whatever you ask for at whatever time you choose to eat. There are several decks around the house and other comfy places to read books or just rest. Also free wireless internet and a nintendo wii and xbox with a bunch of games including Rockband. We would definitely go back. Very reasonably priced for the quality of the lodging and the impeccable service.

History
Established in 1999
Robert and Edith Butler moved their three children and a cook into the house in 1923. In 1963 the Butler's sold the home and it was turned into apartments. In 1999 the Smith's turned the house into their home and a seven guest room B&B. In 1999 the B&B was a Symphony Decorators Show House. Each room was decorated by area interior decorators and artists. Each room is unique.
Meet the Business Owner: Clark and Lauren S.
Clark and Lauren left corporate America to start the B&B. They have two daughters and celebrated 25 years of marriage in 2010.
