Burnaby Palace has been a huge part of my growing up.  I remember coming here all the time in the 1980s as a kid (back then they were on Canada Way and Smith) with my family, so for me, this really was a trip down Memory Lane.

Parking (15 or so spots) is available in the back, but it fills up.  Try the side streets.

Not sure what used to be at this location, but the interior is quite beautifully modeled.  Really nice blue lighting accents in the ceiling.  Random trivia: the paintings and calligraphy on the walls are from their old location.  Yes, I recognize them.

The place is pretty packed (we came on a Thursday), and piles of people came in and out for take-out.  Makes the foyer really busy, but this is a good thing for them.  The restaurant is 2 floors, so the waiters have to go up and down the stairs all the time.  Must be a great workout.

I simply had to order the same dishes that I remembered as a kid. The big question is: did the recipes change?

Shanghai stir-fried noodle - EXACTLY the way I remembered it as a kid.  I was ready to cry.  Thin strips of meat and vegetables, nice touch (but not too heavy) soy.  I was in food heaven.  Delicous.

Dumplings - recipe has changed.  The filling inside stays clumped.  Tasted a touch better than what you'd find at T&T, but they were shorter, thicker, and not as deep-fried as I remembered them.

Chinese Pancake - less oily than I remember.  This not a bad thing though.  Could use a bit more green onion for flavour, but otherwise a good balance in terms of taste.

We also tried the beef on broccoli.  The broccoli was decent, but the beef was done well.  Just the right amount of sauce, with that light crispy stir-fried touch.

The place gave us fortune cookies with our bill.  Wow, haven't seen these for a while.

This really is great comfort food.  Recommended.

Huge portions! But well made! The portions don't overwhelm like lower quality places like Kent's Kitchen (though I guess it's not fair comparing a take-out place to a restaurant like this one). We took the leftovers home, and it was still good after reheating.

I liked the crispy chow mein. The prawns were flavoured really well, though I usually don't like eating them with the shells on, it worked. I don't remember what else we ordered, but everything tasted good, not forced fake flavour or overly greasy.

My plate had something on it, but I pointed it out, and I was brought a new one without hassle.

The take-out container is recyclable plastic and is shaped like a loaf pan! That shape is easier to carry in a bag without having it flip. It has fold-up-able corners for microwaving :)

Ok, I'm giving these guys a really good review because they catered to my office of 45+ people.  Sorry but, in an area like Burnaby....getting catering can be tough!

My boss and I phoned this place for catering and the staff were VERY helpful and willing to do anything.  They really helped us a lot and I have to hand it to this place, the customer service is excellent!
They brought the food on time, hot and fresh.  They gave us pretty much everything we needed and at a reasonable price.

The food is really good!  One of the best places for Chinese.

love love love.  Would definitely go here on a personal basis, and will definitely order catering from them again.

Please read the health warnings from the Fraser Health Authority. Over the past year, inspections by Fraser Health have rated the health hazard for this restaurant as HIGH on 4 occasions. Complements about the food in this forum loses its taste when an authority that monitors hospitals with concerns about "super bugs" considers a restaurant as a high health hazard - 4x over the last year. So those of you who think that you are living on edge because you've tried fugu (pufferfish) - you're sissies. You want to live on the edge, try the food at Burnaby Palace.

I used to go to Burnaby Palace at their old location when I was going to BCIT and then when I was working nearby.  I remember the food being satisfying and really hitting the spot.

Three of us decided to go for dinner at their current location.  When I got inside, the first thing I noticed was how full the dining room was as well as how bright and clean it looked.

When I sat down at the table, I noticed that my plate was a little dirty.  OK, no problem, it happens.  I mentioned the dirty plate to the server and he gave me another plate and some forks for us.  We didn't need the forks; we're from Richmond!  They deserve kudos for being proactive though.  Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 forks had caked on food still on them.  Not good.

Before dinner, I went to the washroom to wash my hands.  I was surprised at how dingy and old the bathroom seemed in contrast to the dining room especially considering the fact that the building is only a few years old.  I realize that it was nearing the end of the day, and that maybe no one had cleaned the bathroom since before lunch, but still, a little maintenance would go a long way.  By this time, I was a little turned off by the restaurant.

    And now for the food:

Szechuan spicy green bean with pork - We asked that this dish not be too spicy and as a result it was not spicy at all.  The sauce on the beans tasted like hoisin with ginger.  Mmmmm... yummy.  My one gripe about this dish was the price.  It was a bit ridiculous: $10.50 for a plate of beans with a smattering of shredded pork.  (In comparison, the beef and vegetable chow mein had more meat and a variety of vegetables for $8.50.)

Crispy chicken - This was the second or third dish to come out.  It wasn't piping hot so I suspect it wasn't freshly cooked.  The accompanying shrimp chips were also not hot.  The chicken was OK but nothing to write home about.

Beef and vegetable chow mein - This was standard but satisfying though it could have used more beef and vegetables in proportion to the noodles.  The noodles were crispy and the sauce wasn't overly greasy or slimy.

Steamed pork dumplings - These arrived last as I believe it was cooked when we ordered it.  The dumplings themselves were a little soggy; maybe they were previously frozen and then over-defrosted before being steamed.  While the dumplings were not very flavourful, the sauce was great.  I believe the sauce was sweetened vinegar with ginger.

Despite my misgivings about the cleanliness, I would consider ordering takeout from here but would avoid eating in again.  The portion sizes are decent and I would definitely have beef and vegetable chow mein as well as the Szechuan spicy green beans (without the pork) next time.

Very nice Chinese restaurant came recommended by some of our group of current and former co-workers who like to get together from time to time.

My office twin and I have concerns about things like MSG and scent in public places; she has a few more restrictions than I do but we both feel it's important that everyone be able to enjoy a meal when we go dining en masse.  So we called ahead and consulted with them about their menu and ingredients and not only were they most helpful - they were very accomodating when it came to actually preparing the foods we'd discussed.  I've been in restaurants before where the server pretends to be concerned about food issues but when the food comes its not as promised and they don't actually care.  Burnaby Palace served us up a lunch fit for a king and queen or several.

What a delicious array of food.

At the end I introduced the group to my favourite fortune cookie game.  Everyone has to read out their fortune and add on "...In Bed!"  at the end.

"You will find new happiness....in bed"
"You are creative and well liked...in bed"

    Always good for a giggle...

First thing I'm going to say is, if you're considering coming here, reservations reservations reservations! I was lucky cause I came here just with my biyfriend so it was easy enough to get a table :) But while we were wolfing down our meals, they had to turn down sooo maany people who didn't have reservations. Some decided to order to-go

Okay, review of the place. It's clean and classy. Asian employees with a white chef lol Just pointing that out, it's nice, they have a bar, upstairs for private hostings and a separate room for bigger reserved groups :)

We got tea and sat there until the waitress came to take our orders only to realise we needed the menus xD No biggy, we ordered, food came a little slower than I would've liked, but they had a party going on so I don't blame them :)

Our first meal came, seafood rice and ginger meat (either pork or chicken, i think it was pork lol) Seafood rice with shrimp and chicken was DELICIOUS. The ginger thing, too much crusted stuff and too less meat. Our jaws and teeth were sore when our Mandarin sweet and sour meat came,....which was practically the same thing but bigger. Their portions was enormous, we had to take one and a half plates home and we came starving. Then again, our Mandarin Pork came when we finished our seafood rice...woow

Anyways, it was nice and very filling. Just a heads up, reservations. A family of 7 was turned away because there was no room, a family of 3 had to wait about half an hour, so lets be smart and avoid that because the food is absolutely (somewhat) awesome :)

Whenever I have a craving for some delicious and greasy Chinese food, this is the place I call.

I found Burnaby Palace on Yummyweb's Top 10 list one day and decided to give them a shot. Clearly the internet approved if they made it on that list.

It takes me FOREVER to figure out what I want when browsing their online menu. There are so many choices for vegetarians which is pretty rad. My favourite order is the Fried Bean Curd with Veggies in Black Bean sauce and the Veggie Chow Mein.

The food always arrives piping hot in microwavable containers (they know you can't finish it all at once!) because the portions are pretty huge.

The leftovers are amazing too. It usually lasts me about 3 days and tastes just as good (if not.. better?) when you fry it up again later.

Thank you Burnaby Palace for satisfying my cravings since 2009!

Thanks to the reviews here on Yelp, we decided to give Burnaby Palace a try last night. I am so happy to have found a Chinese delivery place that doesn't make me feel like I made a huge mistake in ordering take-out.

The food arrived in less time than quoted and we were overwhelmed with the large portions! We ordered the dinner for 8 for the group and there was probably enough food for 12! There was a good variety of dishes included in the special and I really appreciated the number of fresh, discernible vegetables in the dishes! The sauces weren't overly sweet or slimy and the noodles were perfect! We will definitely order from here again, but not for awhile because I think we'll be eating Chinese for days with all the leftovers!

I've been ordering delivery from Burnaby Palace for a few years and they have never screwed up my order or disappointed me in any way. The food always arrive fairly quick, still hot and fresh.

They have some of the best chicken chow mein I have ever had. It's never slimy or greasy. In fact, all of the food I have ordered from there has always been delicious and has never upset my stomach (like most Chinese food tends to do).

All the dishes are very cheap and the servings are huge. Usually when I order 2 or 3 different things it last's me a couple days and I rarely spend over $20.

Burnaby Palace is one of my regular favorites and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys cheap yet tasty Chinese food.

    Awesome food!

It's a shade more pricey than some other places, but so worth it. It's the only place with decent General Tso's chicken, for sure.

I order delivery from there and it's always reliable. Service is great. I like that I can just order online too.

The servings are huge. So either have at least 2 people or be prepared to have several meals. I recommend this place. :)

Back again and left greasily satisfied. Spicy, deep-fried and stir-fried deliciousness!

Better decor, two stories and private room - upgrade *snaps*! Such a fresh breathe compared to their previous dinky location on Canada Way (on top of a Nammer pool hall no less).

Technically, my house is out of the Burnaby Palace Restaurant "delivery zone" but they made an exception after we placed our order through their on line takeout ordering system (which by the way RULES - no more convoluted conversations to get dinner sent that seem way more complex than they should be....was it me? or them? am I just stoned?)

They called to let us know that because we were out of the delivery area it could take up to an hour but that they were happy to do it, they even gave us a courtesy call at the halfway mark to let us know they weren't far away. Super service, thanks for checking!

I had to agree with Reena's review in that even though we ordered some of the usual grease-culprits from the menu (wontons, chicken wings, spare ribs etc) the food was surprisingly grease-free and fresh. The spicy beef noodle soup had great quality cuts of beef in it, the stir fry dishes had loads of fresh vegetables and at the end of the meal we felt, well, good. Not crammed full of msg and like someone had hurt my feelings.

It has been so long since I have ordered Chinese food and not had buyers remorse. You know, the crushing disappointment of ordering something crappy and unsatisfying and the soul-gnawing envy when you see someone else's tasty dinner selection taunting you. Perhaps I exaggerate but seriously, food envy, its brutal. But, this place has restored my faith. I shall go forth and order (on line) with confidence.

We're new in town and Burnaby Palace is our neighborhood Chinese restaurant.  Wanting to celebrate Chinese New Year properly we ordered up a few of our favorites to gauge the takeout waters.  We also added ginger beef to the line-up based on Yelp reviews.  While the orange chicken wasn't the end all be all (it was the soggy limp broccoli's fault), the spicy pork green beans made us happy.  However it was the ginger beef that lived up to its reputation.  I will definitely eat that again.  The kids are dumpling fans, and while I'm not sure of their dumpling connoisseur skills just yet, it didn't take long for them to finish off all 10.  We ordered pick up for convenience reasons but they offer free delivery.  The server who brought me out our order was friendly and helpful.  She even asked if I would like some chopsticks.  I love it when people remember to ask questions I forget to ask.  But seriously, order the ginger beef.

Whoa! A good quality, basic Chinese restaurant near my house?! I couldn't believe it!!

Now, let me just place a disclaimer that this restaurant isn't compared to the likes of Sun Sui Wah or Kirin.  I would compare it to others in this class of (my) family style Chinese dining such as my experiences at Capitol Hill http://www.yelp.ca/biz... or On Lok http://www.yelp.ca/biz....

We ordered szechuan style chicken, prawns with hot chilli sauce, house special chow mein, veggie chow mein, 4 spring rolls, lettuce wrap, and szechuan style veggie fried rice plus drinks.  All of this came out to $100 ish for 6 of us.  The chicken was decent, though I'd probably try the dai ching chicken or general tsu's next time.  The house special noodles were impressive: It had veggies, squid, prawns, bbq pork and chicken.  That dish was really delicious and the squid and prawns tasted so fresh! The prawn with hot chili sauce dish was also cooked to perfection!

The great part about this place was that except for the spring rolls, we didn't feel our food to be too greasy where as the aforementioned places I've visited were obviously greasy, esp. Capitol Hill. And i've walked out feeling so gross and greasy myself from eating so much grease. But not at this place. They also don't put MSG in anything if you request it.

Conclusion: I think I've found a new Chinese place to order from now on.

Noteworthy: The establishment is very nice and up to date. I guess they just remodeled the place a year ago. They also have an upstairs portion that can seat 50 people. And they have dim sum in the afternoons too.

Man, I hadn't been to this place in ages... actually I hadn't had greasy diner-style Chinese in ages, so when my dad decided to go here for his birthday dinner I was pretty happy. I remember their General Tsu's chicken being such an influence on my Chinese food preferences as a child that I made my own version recently, as I couldn't find anywhere that made it as good as I remember Burnaby Palace making it... anyway...

We went with a large group.  It was Sunday dinnertime.  It was freakin busy.  the first thing that I noticed was the tiny lunch-tray-sized parking lot. The second ting I noticed, as we went inside, was that their new Boundary location is about ten times nicer than the old ghetto Canada Way place above the pool hall where all the Vietnamese gang members hung out... The third thing I noticed, as we sat down, was that they had installed flat-screen TVs everywhere that were tuned into the hockey game : ) Now if they could send the memo out to every other Asian restaurant in the city, I'd never have to miss another game.

We had some sort of fried chicken and shrimp chips that was pretty pedestrian, the chicken chow mein which was as good as chicken chow mein gets, the ginger beef which was just awesome, the mandarin sweet and sour pork which was pretty tasty, the honey garlic spareribs which I thought were way too fatty and not enough meat, and of course the standard Buddha's Feast - no complaints, but it needed more baby corn. I like baby corn. There was like 2 pieces. Oh yes, and the General Tsu's chicken was, sadly, not nearly as good as I remembered it. It was kind of gross, actually - the chicken has the bone-in, which I remember, but it seems to be really shit cuts of chicken they use for this dish - all bone and fat with a couple scraps of dark meat in between. And the sauce tasted too heavy and MSG-laden, not sweet and spicy like I remember it. My modified General Tsu's chicken would kick this General Tsu's chicken's ass, I regret to say.

But overall, yum. The ginger beef was perfect, and the chicken chow mein was damn tasty - I could eat tubs full of it. I'll definitely be back, now that its in a building I wouldn't be sketched-out by if I saw it.

Very clean and nicely decorated restaurant they have their own parking lot and there is a a small private room. We ordered hot and sour soup, ginger beef and Dai Ching chicken boneless. The food itself I would give it 3 stars but because of the decor I will round it off to a 4 star experience. I find that the food is a very westernized version of Chinese food but I really liked the hot and sour soup (4*).

I might have to say for now, this is the best Chinese food Ive had in Vancouver, appropriately because Richmond is technically a different city. Their food is really good and not too oily, the price is reasonable and their to-go boxes are so neat!! I love it. I usually never crave Chinese food but for you Burnaby Palace, I will have to make the exception.

I know.  I know.  With all the 4 and 5 stars, I feel a bit guilty about the 3 I am giving, but ...

#1-We ordered about 12 dishes (including the much raved about ginger beef) and half of them arrived at our table cold (including the much raved about ginger beef).  The dishes that did come hot were OK.

#2-No one came by to fill up our teapots for almost the entire 3 hours we were there.  It was a cold night and we needed the warmth.  Plus, our food was taking so long we had nothing to do but drink green tea.

#3-The divider separating a table of older Chinese women from the other 3 tables in the room fell.  Yes F-E-L-L on to a couple of my friends sitting right next it.  It took a while for one of the staff to come by to see what all the commotion was about.  (Commotion being those same ladies on the other side of the wall screaming.  I don't know why THEY screamed when they were the ones that caused it to fall and WE were the ones it fell on.)  Then, when one of the staff did come by, he didn't seem too apologetic.

Even with all these "issues", I am giving them a 3 instead of 2 stars because the food that was served hot was good.  The price was decent.  The bathrooms were clean.  They accommodate large groups.
