I am in love with Burke Williams Spa (San Francisco).  I have had massages and facials here as a regular for the past year or so. They will cater to your specific needs, and when I come for a massage or facial, I have a routine that works for my particular skin and body type, I appreciate that my esthetician always takes notes!  They really know how to make you feel comfortable here. Everything from the lighting, to room temperature, to soothing background music, wind chimes, and the luxurious amenities--jacuzzi, sauna, misting room, quiet room, makeup and hair vanities, all the showers and bathrooms, etc. They constantly are keeping you hydrated--with fruit infused water, lemonade, tea with honey, fresh fruit, and I love the frozen grapes and frozen lemonade treats they serve to you while you are relaxing in the jacuzzi. They also provide a constant supply of chilled aromatherapy towels infused with geranium and mint oils! They even provide the robe, slippers, tampons, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, facial cleanser, facial lotion and toner, makeup remover, mouthwash, deodorant, cu-tips, cotton-pads, hair ties, hair dryers, curling irons, flat irons, mousse, hair spray, etc.  Not many other day spas will offer this much attention to detail. Every other spa I have been to pales in comparison--and I have been to luxury spas in Asia, notably Hong Kong, and here in the Bay Area including Nordstrom Spa, and Red Door.  We are very lucky to have Burke Williams here in SF!!! I just wish I had known about it sooner.

The ONLY things I wish were improved...
    1.  Softer bath towels
    2.  Better razors (Not the cheap disposable kind that is easy to get cuts with.)
    3.  Better enforcement of the "spa voices" in the jacuzzi.
    4.  Option for a "Couple's Massage"
    5.  Customer service could be improved.

    About Customer Service...
Thank you for being very polite and courteous speaking, but I think the level of customer service needs to be taken up a notch to match the level of luxury being offered in terms of spa services and amenities. We the clients are paying top dollar, and expect the level of service to be EXCEPTIONAL. That means if an area has run out of towels for example, you go get it. Not later or in 5 Minutes, but immediately.  Don't just stand there doing some other non-urgent task and say "Oh, we ran out. Sorry."  Or if I ask "Where is such-and-such facial masque?", you shouldn't say "In the next room, on the 3rd shelf to the right, and 2 rows back."  You should show the client personally, or retrieve it for the client. I mean c'mon this isn't the grocery store! Just saying.

The private bath is disappointing, because it's in a tiny room with two tubs near each other, separated only by shower curtains.  It seems pretty overpriced to pay $40 for a room that's smaller than my own bathroom, which also has another customer five feet away in their own bathtub.

The entire place seems like it's meant to be luxurious, but there are all sorts of cheap-quality furnishings peeking out from underneath.  But it's priced very expensively.

I am a member at Burke Williams and I have heard great things about the SF location. Unfortunately, I was just not impressed. The facilities are nicer and it has a more French boudoir feel to it, which is a nice touch. Other than that, it offers the same amenities you find at other BW's: aromatherapy towels ( I LOVE them! So relaxing to put one over your face while you sit in the jacuzzi or steam bath), assorted fruits, ice cold water flavored with freshly sliced cucumbers and oranges, lemonade, towels, cold towels, sliced cucumbers for your eyes, robes, slippers and all the necessities for showering and getting ready.

It's $10 more for every treatment at this location because it's SF. I have had several massages at BW but the one I received here was just not up to par. My gf and I booked massages together and when the therapists came to get us, I knew she lucked out and got the better masseuse. Mine was a small Asian woman, who used too much elbow and forearm, as it did not seem as though she could apply a lot of pressure with just her hands.

I have written a great review of the BW in San Jose and gotten a response from the GM promptly. I have yet to hear any responses to my comments, which I sent in twice in hopes that they fix the problem. I am usually impressed with the services at Burke Williams, both with their spa staff and their customer service. I am quite disappointed this time around. I think I'll just stick to other BWs, specifically the San Jose location and avoid San Francisco's location altogether.

YOU NEED TO READ THIS REVIEW FIRST BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO VISIT

I have been suffering with depression and anxiety. My sister Laura, has chronic neck and back pain from a few car accidents in the past. When I came up to SF to visit, we both agreed a pampered day at the spa is much needed.

Today was our first visit to Burke Williams. It was the absolute WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. They only care about taking your money and nothing else!

We both were super excited about our day today because we rarely do things like this. We planned to spend several hours at the spa, pretty ourselves up and then do some shopping. We showered, went into the steam room for a bit, and got our massages. I had the full swedish massage and Laura had the deep tissue firm swedish combination massage. My masseuse Marie, was great. During the session, she asked me a couple times about the pressure, which I appreciated. She smoothed out the knots in my neck and back; I felt like a limp noodle afterwards. However, Laura's masseuse Mulan, just gave her a light rubbing and did not bother asking about the pressure. Nothing about that massage was close to Swedish nor deep-tissue. Disappointing.

After our massage, we hit the showers to wash off all the lotion before getting into the jacuzzi. The only stalls that were available was a regular stall and a handicap stall, which only had a curtain instead of a door. We felt more comfortable sharing a shower together instead. It wasn't weird for us because we are very close (only 18 months apart). So we were showering and all of a sudden one of the staff knocked on our door asking us to come out because it is against their policy to share a shower together. Oops! We didn't know that! So Laura got out of the shower immediately and finished off in another stall that had just been vacated.

We went into the jacuzzi afterwards and we were literally in there for only three minutes when we were approached by general manager Debra, and Nik (or Mik, I couldn't get a good look at her name tag). They told us they have a very strict policy against sharing shower stalls and asked us to leave. We tried explaining to them that it was our first time at Burke WIlliams and that we are sisters. We had no idea that that was their policy and asked if they could make an exception for us and let us stay since we are paying so much for their services and amenities. Debra said, "Sorry, but this is my final decision. You two have 15 minutes to get ready to leave and pay or we will call security." We were very upset. We both quickly jumped into the showers to wash off the chlorine. I broke down and started to cry. Like I mentioned earlier, I was really looking forward for this day and now it is ruined just because of an honest mistake.

We both didn't even get the chance to relax in the jacuzzi, go into the mist room, the quiet room, take a proper shower, get ready, or try any of their beauty products. We left the place looking like crap, with our hair dripping wet. We were pissed off.

When we came out to pay, we spoke with Debra again. I said, "If you guys have such a strict policy against sharing showers, then this is something you need to clearly disclose to your clients before they use your services." And her response was, "Well, people don't normally share showers." It is absolutely ridiculous for a business to assume what people "normally" do and then ask people to leave when they unknowingly break their policy. I tried explaining to her how I suffer from depression and anxiety and how important this day was to me. She didn't care. Her response was, "We cannot discuss this in detail right now." Gee, I wonder why???? Because you're worried your other clients in the waiting room will hear? We didn't care, we loudly pointed that out as Debra processed our payment.

On our way out, Mik had the nerve to say, "Have a nice day." How the hell can we have a nice day after what just happened?!

Our spa day was ruined. I wanted to go home immediately because I felt and looked like $#!T. So we didn't get to eat or shop as we planned.

In closing, after reading a lot of Burke Williams' reviews on yelp, I noticed all the high ratings came from people who luckily had things run smoothly. The only time people come in contact with the staff is when they check in and when they leave, so the high ratings are solely based on their facilities and the quality of their services. However, I noticed whenever an issue arises, their customer service is horrible! Finally, for such an "upscale" business, I don't understand why they hire massage therapists who doesn't seem to know what they're doing! There are too many reviews complaining about this. If clients are paying $150 for a massage, we expect what I call a "Cirque Du Soleil" caliber; meaning NO MISTAKES!

So you have been warned. There is a reason why there are a lot of negative reviews. Horrible service. Not worth the risk, not worth the price.

After a pressure filled few months, I called up a friend who I knew could indoctrinate me to the way of the spa afternoon.  Without hesitation she recommended Burke Williams.

I signed up for a 50 minute massage, and 50 minute facial. I spent some time in the hot tub first.  I have to say, I was impressed with the dressing/locker area.  Very clean, fresh fruit, fruit flavored waters, lots of hair dryers, curling irons, deodorant, moisturizer, etc.  My friend and I hit the hot tub for a while, which was very clean, and quiet.

My massage was great.  The table is heated, and my robe and slippers were kept in a heated cabinet.  My masseuse was extremely professional, and really concentrated on my shoulders, which I had mentioned where a very sore, problem area for me.

My facial was amazing.  It was my first time getting one, so I wasn't sure what to expect.  First, my hands were put in paraffin, then wrapped in heated mittens.  They were so soft afterwards, and stayed that way for almost 2 weeks.  Nadine was my esthetician, and I will be back.  First of all, she looks like she is 24, and she is actually 35; proving how important taking care of your skin is.  I have very porcelain skin, and I wanted to focus on evening out skin tones.  She mentioned doing a blueberry peel, I was a little scared, but decided to trust her.  I"m so glad I did! My skin was glowing for weeks; skin tones evened out, and looked so amazing.  She did a few extractions, and it didn't hurt or really irritate my skin.  She also recommended some nutritional supplements to help my under eye circles.  I'm booking my next facial with Nadine ASAP!

Thanks to a gift card from friends, I treated myself to a 180 minute pure relaxation massage at the SF Westfield location.  The massage and masseuse were great.  The massage pressure was spot on from the get go, but he did ask how it felt about 10 minutes in.  I can't stand a masseuse who grinds your muscles or doesn't use enough oil so they end up pinching your skin.   Aside from two or three questions related to pressure and positioning on the table, the masseuse didn't initiate unnecessary conversation (a sign of a real professional). Music in the room was appropriate and at a decent sound level so it wasn't overly distracting.  They do ask you to silence your phones and refrain from using them.  Aside from one entitled a-hole talking to some nitwit about his Mac, everyone else followed the rules.

The spa is very clean, tasteful, and promotes total relaxation.  I was there on a Thursday afternoon so if it's more crowded/noisy on the weekends I can't say.  Locker rooms/showers/steam/sauna/hot tub were all spotless and always fully stocked with quality towels, robes, and toiletries.  No threadbare hotel or Sports Club LA crap here.  Water, juice infused water, and facial wraps were everywhere.  You're allowed to use these other amenities as long as you like before or after your treatment.

Staff were all professional in appearance and demeanor and very attentive.  I did have to speak with management regarding one employee's sexually inappropriate behavior in the locker room, but this was taken very seriously.  I'm absolutely not going to allow the one bad apple from absolutely recommending Burke Williams to anyone.

    I will absolutely go back.

I'm a die-hard Burke Williams fan.  I've been to the one in Mission Viejo and San Francisco, and I love them.  Pricing is a little above average but you get what you pay for.  The spa is gorgeous and offers a large whirlpool, steam room, dry sauna, mist room, relaxation room, and all of the amenities to primp in case you have a big date afterward.  The staff is awesome and super helpful.

My favorite treatment is the Parafango.  They rub an exfoliating parafin mud mixture all over your body, wrap you up for about 25 minutes, give you a mini facial, take you to the showers for a rinse, and then give you a mini massage with lotions for nourishment.  HEARTS!

The membership package is a great deal now too.  For $84 a month (auto debit for 1 year) you get a massage or facial (or membership pricing on any other service with a credit for the $84).  You also get membership pricing for the rest of the month for anything else you desire.  This package only includes the spa w/ a service, but there is another package which includes spa visits anytime w/out service.  I think that one is around $120/month.

Every time I go here I spend about 6 hours just enjoying the amenities before and after my service(s).  Soooo worth it.  Do something for your body/mind/soul and go here asap.

I came here twice - review for Parafango treatment, Spa Facial, Swedish-Shiastu massage.

Parafango Treatment: (on a toasty bed)
    - dry brush treatment -- sugar scrub -- heated mud application with brush -- shower -- cooling gel massage (more of a rub on than massage) -- facial (pumpkin mask or other choices). REALLY LIKE IT. The cooling gel application was not really a massage - I wish it was. :(
    - they give you disposable undies :D

    80 min Spa-Facial: (mom says)
    - the esthetician came in late, and was hurrying to finish her work; she rubbed pumpkin oil for most of the time and finished with strawberry mask; moreover, she had my mom leave early - probably because it was around 7:30pm and the esthetician wanted to go home.
    - short foot and hand massages + hand dip in wax
    - while the mask is on the face, my mom noticed she was not getting any massages (I don't know if it is normally like this), but the esthetician was focusing on her cleaning up....as if to leave ASAP.

Swedish-Shiastu massage = LOVE IT!!! I usually receive deep tissue, and I was worried the masseuse may not be strong enough, but I was wrong.

Amenities they provide that come with treatment:
    1. Spacious shower with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razor, swimsuit bags
    2. A sink with cotton pads, q-tips, toner, facial cleanser, face and body lotion, makeup remover
    3. self-serve: cucumber-lemon water, lemonade, apples & bananas in a bowl
    4. a co-ed lounge, a separate room for doing hair and make up - clean hairbrushes, hair-dryer, hair gels/sprays, a quiet room
    5. hot tub, sauna, steam room, cold room; there is also a bath-tub but you need to pay separately for it.
    6. locker, slippers, bathrobes, (you can be nude or in swimsuit)

    Tip:
    - if you are a woman, I recommend that you do not come here on the weekends (at least not around 11am-3pm); it gets crowded with chatty girls and it is not relaxing anymore.

Facility - steam room, sauna, ice room, hot tub with jets, sleeping room, bathrooms, locker rooms, a lounge to read magazines and have an apple or a tea etc, and a private bathing tub room (require a reservation)

Massage - I failed twice.  I am not satisfied with neither male or female masseuse.  I am not going back there for massage.

Facial - It is ok.  I haven't found 'the one' yet in sf so I go to burke williams for it occasionally.

I wish their guest service was more prompt and professional.

I hate to give this place a bad review, because it could have been great.  I came here with some friends on a Saturday and found the facilities to be lovely.  The staff was efficient at checking us in, and we were given a brief tour.

After changing, I made a beeline for the hot tub.  I and about 5 other women were chatting there for a few minutes and we were promptly informed by an employee that we needed to use our "spa voices."  We weren't speaking that loudly - but stone & concrete echo, go figure, so I get it.

The relaxation massage was just about what I expected.  I wasn't blown away, but it was good, and the masseuse was quiet - bonus.  I hate when you get someone chatty...

Unfortunately, all the relaxation from the massage was shot to hell soon after.  After my massage, I went to the hot tub and there were 2 teenage girls in the tub.  This is an adults-only spa, so I'm not sure how they made it past check-in.  Right after I got in the tub, one of them gave me a look, turned to her friend and said, "Watch this," and proceeded to do a handstand right in front of me, kicking her legs and making a huge splash.  The last thing I want to do at a day spa is to get in a fight with a 14-year-old, so I got out of the hot tub and decided to shower up.

When I got out of the shower, the girls were right there, talking with another woman and blocking my path to the locker room.  I said, "Excuse me," and got a snotty "You're excused!" thrown at my back.

I found out later that other spa-goers had complained about the teenagers & their roughhousing, but instead of kicking them out of the spa, the staff told them the hot tub was closed for chlorine testing!  They eventually did get kicked out, but not before everyone else in the spa was completely pissed off at their shenanigans.  Stupid that the staff couldn't tell off a couple of teens for being a complete nuisance when they had no problem hushing my friends and me the first ten minutes we were there.

I'll think twice about coming back here because of this experience.

4 stars overall but my masseuse gets 5!
The reason I give it a 4 is because the spa area was too noisy with a bunch of loudly talking foreigner-type women. That wasn't the spas fault but they could have shushed them for the sake of everyone else. There's always staff walking around ensuring that you are not dehydrated (they offer frozen fruits and cold drinks while inside the spa area). The massage session itself was relaxing which took place in a private room that was dimly lit and the massage table was already warm.

    would I go back again?
Yes I would, they have monthly specials !

My first review of the year goes to Burke Williams Spa, with the hope that it will set a precedent for relaxation, calm & serenity for the rest of 2012.

It's become a bit of an unofficial ritual for BFF & I to get massages on our b-days & this year, he brought me here.

Massage enhancements are usually $15 EACH, but a special was running when we visited; for $5, I got to try: aromatherapy (lavender was placed below the table for me to inhale as I lay face-down), hot stones & detox (a pink himalayan salt crystal, which I got to take home, exfoliated my back.)

My 50-minute Swedish massage with Angela was very good, but not 'expert.' Her pressure & technique were both fine, but I didn't stumble out of there feeling as if I'd been tenderized like a tough piece of meat, which is how I prefer to feel after a massage.

Massage was 3.5 stars but I'm rating BW four stars for two reasons, the first being customer service. BFF & I were late for our massages & without fuss or hesitation, they moved us to a later time slot. They could've said, too bad, you're shit outta luck, but instead they were gracious & accommodating & gave us our full 50 minutes.

The second reason I'm a fan is the swank factor (which is a little tainted by the mall location, but freakin' swank, nonetheless.) I was so impressed by the amenities (plush robe, spacious locker, hot tub, everything you could want during & after a shower) that I gifted a loved one a 1-year membership to BW. If you can commit to a year-long contract & bear to part with $1000, you too can give the gift of massage.

I will start this by saying I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!
it is incredible that it is located in a mall but once you are inside it really makes you feel like you have been transported to heaven. the staff is amazing, they really make you feel welcome. my favorite is their jacuzzi and lemonade. If my daily life would allow it i would go there every week. they even have a quiet room where i took a nap. just incredible.
The highlight of my experience was my deep tissue massage by Raquel. she is no more than 5 feet tall but she is STRONG and knows exactly what she is doing, she even gave me some tips after my massage. If you like to get deep tissues she is the one to go to. awesome personality and very polite. Thank you Raquel.

First "day spa" experience- I'm addicted! My boss gave me an all day membership gift card to come here and relax  + the 50 minute "Pure Relaxation" massage. I went on a rainy Saturday, escaping the bad weather and stepping into what I can only describe as a sanctuary.

The Spa is located in the Westfield Mall- on the same floor as the Century Theaters. I got sort of lost. It's basically right above Bloomingdales. When I finally found it, I was greeted at the front desk and given a tour around the spa. The girls at the front desk were very helpful, but I couldn't understand a thing the person who was giving me the tour was saying! She was mumbling and talking in a really quiet voice. It was my first time ever at a spa, so I was kind of frustrated, but it was no big deal... it's pretty easy to figure out on your own.

    Things that I loved:
-During my massage my robe was heated so when I put it back on, I was all warm and cozy. :)
-You can literally spend ALL day there if you want. I hung around for about six hours.
-The woman who gave me my massage was friendly, professional, talented, and let me relax, instead of talking to me throughout.
-All the products they have for you to use! Makeup remover, cotton wipes, cotton swabs, toners, face wash, body lotions, sunscreen, razors, shaving cream, bandaids, tampons, hair spray, leave in conditioner, shower caps, flat irons, curling irons, blow dryers... everything you can think of was well stocked and readily available for you to use.
    -Fruit infused waters.. everywhere!!!
-The delicious lemonade by the lockers... I couldn't get enough!
-The little tables you could sit and get ready!
    -Magazines everywhere... good variety
-"Quiet room" if you wanted to have a little nap or just read quietly
-Everything is extremely clean and well stocked!
    -Professional and friendly staff

Things that could have been better:
-"Quiet room" was a little cold (even though they have blankets, I was shivering...) and dark if you are trying to read!
-Hot tub could have been a bit warmer.

Had a great experience and I will definitely be back!

Another pleasant visit to Burke Williams....well after I finally got into the dressing room. I had an appointment at 10am. It was a little difficult finding my way in since Westfield doesn't open until 10am, and I wanted to get there early to hang out and relax before my massage. I had to go around to the loading dock on 5th and ask the security let me in the back...I'm a couple minutes late and when I check in, the receptionist tells me my appointment was actually for tomorrow...it was a little frustrating, but thank god it was my day off from work and school, AND luckily she was able to fit me in about 30 minutes later which was perfect and gave me time to relax prior..

For the massage, I'd definitely give a 5. I had Sean, who was absolutely AMAZING. His hands are so incredibly soft. He asked me which spots I wanted him to concentrate more on, how much pressure I would like, didn't rush into it and didn't rush out. It was absolutely perfect, and after the whole not being able to get into the building and the appointment mix-up, his magic hands definitely made up for it.

Coming back tomorrow for a facial! Hopefully they don't try to push me to buy products!

And on another note: I wish they had a direct phone line so guests could call and ask how to get into Westfield...because really, how is it possible to make a 10am appointment if the mall doesn't open until 10am and it takes 5 minutes to get all the way up to the spa?

I went to Burke Williams for an 80 minute deluxe massage after a really rough couple of weeks. The spa was really lovely inside. I assumed I would be less than impressed because it was in Westfield, but you definitely forget you're in a mall as soon as you step inside the doors.

The facilities are nice, especially because I came unprepared with any beauty products because I was late leaving work. They have everything, and I enjoyed a nice soak in the hot tub after my massage, a long shower, and felt very relaxed when I left.

Skylar is amazing. I've had quite a few really nice massages, but she was incredibly sure and confident while being extremely graceful whenever she moved any part of my body. Sometimes I wouldn't even realize she'd set my arm back against my body for several minutes. She was very quiet, which was exactly what I was hoping for, and I almost couldn't walk when she was finished I was so relaxed. I feel amazing today -- she suggested some light stretching before bed which I did, and I'm not the slightest bit sore, despite the fact that she used a fair amount of pressure. I would definitely request her again next time I go back.

I feel like I spend almost as much time in lovely SF as I do in Chicago.  I'm typically there for work and don't get much free time, but I found myself with a few hours to spare on a recent event. And so I decided to indulge in a much needed massage at Burke Williams.

I arrived on time for my appointment and was scolded for not arriving 30 minutes prior to the appointment. If I had the time to arrive 30 minutes early to spa appointments I wouldn't need a massage, huh? Fortunately, they forgave me and minutes later I was in the very capable hands of Sue.

Sue may be tiny, but she sure knows how to apply lots of pressure. It was 50 minutes of bliss & torture (but in a good way) as Sue worked out all my kinks. She also placed a heating pad on my back to relax the muscles, which I thought was a nice touch. And the exfoliation was an even nicer touch. My only complaint is that the massage wasn't longer.

At $140 for a 50 minute spa this was a bit expensive by my Chicago standards, but well worth it. And if I ever find myself with another hour free in SF I'll be heading back to see my friend Sue at Burke Williams.

I've been to a few spas around the city before thanks to spa week - Bliss spa, Tru spa, Red Door, Hotel Intercontinental - but I have to say that out of all the ones that I've been to in the city, Burke Williams was my favorite. The facilities are uh-mazing (love the super spacious hot tub, the sauna and steam room. Tons of showers and a never-ending supply of cucumbers, lemonade and spa water.

Additionally, before my massage, one employee walked by with frozen grapes. Yum.

I don't really mind that it's a part of the mall - in fact, I kind of like that I can do some random window shopping beforehand or head on in whenever I want. I had both a male and female massage therapist before, and both are great.

Definitely head here when you need to unwind and de-stress!

I was really happy with my visit to the spa in SF.  My boyfriend and I went early to take advantage of the jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna (which aren't co-ed).  The facilities were beautiful and spacious, and well-equipped.  There were plenty of nice touches including plastic bags for swimsuits, a large assortment of hair products, a full set of face cleanser, toner, and lotion, etc.  We signed up for Burke Williams massages with deep tissue  as they were running a promotion, and we both had excellent massages.   Having been to many full service spas like La Belle, Ritz Carlton, Intercontinental, Nob Hill Spa, I thought the service and facilities were really excellent here relative to value.

Went here to just hang out in the day spa. Not too crowded in the evenings and plenty of room and amenities. A little pricey for what it is but I would come back to just relax.

Just throwing my two cents in. Whenever I come here, I feel like the most self-indulgent person ever. The service is always pleasant and I love the treatments and the amenities. Oh, steam room, I heart you. I love the lemonade and cucumber water and frozen grapes and all that jazz. Yes, it's expensive (here's to hoping I can be a regular someday), but it always feels totally worth it.

Cashing in on my Valentine's Day gift card, I scheduled 2 services at BW. The changing room and showers are what you would expect at a high priced day spa. The steam room was super hot (in a good way) but the hot tub lukewarm. The waiting area is super luxe and comfortable and both services (massage and facial) exceeded my expectations. The facial started off with a paraffin dip for the hands - a real treat for computer keyboard achy fingers and the massage has treats like warm towels and a warmed robe to get into afterward. Another bonus here is the "Quiet Room" where you can lie back and rest. The staff is clearly interested in making you comfortable and relaxed. Might be one of the best day spas in SF right now.

Tranquil oasis right smack in the middle of complete chaos...

I really love this place. Two minor hesitations though: (1) you have to get to Westfield Shopping Center in Union Square to get here, which is enough to rattle your nerves in the first place; (2) creepy lurkers - be forewarned.  But I guess you can unwind once you get there (enter mall on Mission Street and take the express elevators in front of Bloomies to the 5th floor) and embrace your inner exhbitionist, and all be well with the world again.

The men's spa is rarely crowded (unlike the women's) and offers a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and cold and regular showers, including a handicap accessible one.  Facial/body/hair products are a plenty, and the facilities are clean.  Therapists are consistently good - ask the front desk for a recommendation since they themselves will often try the therapists out.  Spa attendants are friendly and accommodating.

The Spa offers membership deals also: $79/mo gets you one 50 minute Pure Relaxation massage (Swedish) or 50 minute spa-style facial per month; $109 per month gets you the same + unlimited spa use + 25% offall other services.  Pretty good deal if you can spare the $ on a monthly basis.  12 month contract required.

1st time visiting Burke Williams was 2 years ago when we book a massage session for a huge group. There was some misunderstanding during the initial reservation so we ended up with NO massages, which was a bummer. But we did got to use the facility for free due to the misunderstanding. There's steam and sauna room with jacuzzi tub. They have personal stations inside the ladies' room with blow dryer, combs, and anything else you may need that you've forgot to bring. Their waiting area is very relaxing and the staffs are friendly.

I have yet to try their massage service. but so far i am impress with their facility and the friendly staffs

Walked in was greeted right away and the atmoshphere put me at ease.
It was my first time so I got a tour. Changed into a fluffy robe and slippers, sipped on lemonade while i dipped my feet in the Jacuzzi. My pedicure was fantastic, the ONLY problem was that I started at 6:55 and it ended at 7:20...it was supposed to be a 40 min pedi but it felt a bit rushed. I was a little annoyed until I went into the sleeping room for 41 min and read a couple of magazines, and felt better. I took a good shower and blow dryed/got myself ready. It was really nice. I'll def go back, but for a massage! Hopefully they don't jip me on time there!

    GIRLS DAY OUTTT!!!
This place is so beautiful. Walked in for my first massage ever and greeted with warm smiles at the front desk. Spent a day out with the girls to get into a hot spa, chatting it up then hitting up the steam room with iced face towels with cucumbers and being greeted by our masseuse. This is a place to go to when you are stressed out and need to hang out with the girls. Mucho amenities such as hairdryer, towels, water, hairbrush, straightner, etc etc. Definitely come here for a stress free day but expect to pay up $$!

I love this spa.  It is a full service spa with sauna, steam, whirlpool, showers, cold room, fluffy robes and all the toiletries a girl could want.  They have cold cucumbers for your eyes, fresh lemon cucumber water, tea, apples, and a guy walking around with frozen grapes.

I have been to many of the esthetician's here and I have yet to have a bad facial. Their latest, the organic enzyme facial, did such amazing things for my skin, I swear my face was glowing for two weeks.

Their pedicure room is not as relaxing as the rest of the spa.  I do not recommend it, their chairs are connected directly to the plumbing and they are LOUD.  Loud enough that I couldn't close my eyes and enjoy the foot massage because I just kept hearing the noise of the chair pumping water in and out of the foot bowl.  Definitely not worth the price, although my toes did look very pretty.

They have a member program with pretty great pricing.  If you are a monthly facial/spa person, you really can't beat the member pricing on most of their services.  Non-member pricing is on the high side, but they often have something (usually a facial or massage) on special each month to make it more affordable.

The only other negative is that it is IN the mall, so when you leave all relaxed and happy you are immediately thrown into the craziness of the mall and downtown.

I didn't realize that the spa was AT the mall until I got there. So, I was a little skeptical. As soon as I stepped inside, though, I forgot all about the movie theater next door and the shoppers milling around downstairs. Burke Williams was relaxing, pleasant, and serene.

I had a spa pedicure -- the nail technician did a nice job. The only downside was that the pedicure took place in a room that was nice and modern, but wasn't super-relaxing.

I did love the relaxation room -- you can relax for as long as you want in fancy reclining chairs. The room is dark and calm and curtains separate each of the chairs.

    Bonus: You can book online.

The spa is roomy, super clean and nicely decorated. The therapists are fantastic (had the best spa pedicure here ever... I think with Christina).  BUT if you want a peaceful environment, try elsewhere! Maybe i was there during a peak time but common areas like the whirlpool and changing rooms were so noisy. I actually left the jacuzzi early because two women couldn't stop talking about their weekend plans in their 'outside' voices. I went to the "quiet room" to relax and there was a woman talking to her friend about her wedding. When I went to change in the locker area, a woman's cellphone rang and, yes she answered it and had a conversation!!

Maybe it's calmer and quieter in the evenings, but posting a simple sign IN ALL COMMON AREAS reminding ladies to keep their voices down and their cellphones off would make a big difference!! Ladies: we can always chat at any volume at the coffee shop, at lunch or over drinks but NOT at the spa. It ruined what would have been a perfect spa day. Again, you'll find this to be a well-maintained spa and you'll find all the nice amenities here, but you won't find peace and quiet.

Burke Williams met and exceeded my expectations.  Keep in mind, I was expecting amazing, and I got it.  I thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary spa services (sauna, steam room, etc.).  But, i was really wowed by my amazing deep tissue massage with Shay Marie.  It was like I died and went to heaven.  No joke, I felt so relaxed after my massage with Shay Marie!  Even though she ran a little late for our appointment, the wait was worth it.  Words cannot express adequately the pleasure I experienced from Shay Marie.  My only regret is that I made enough mula to afford Shay Marie's soothing touch on a regular basis!

    Premier Service.

My monthly facial treatment at Burke Williams SF is absolutely great. Beth, a facial specialist, exceeded all of my expectations. She is a prime example of unmatched service. My treatment with Beth was relaxing. Her techniques and empathy of my concerns made my experience positive.

If you want to treat yourself to a good spa facial, Burke Williams is a good recommendation!

My massage therapist was super nice but clearly inexperienced.  The massage was really more of a lotion application than anything else.  I was pretty disappointed after paying $140.  I asked for more pressure a couple times, but I could tell she just wasn't very confident in her technique.  Facilities are ok, I was hoping it would feel like a little escape, but the mall vibe was unavoidable.

Burke Williams is a quiet, tranquil retreat amidst the concrete jungle of stressful downtown San Francisco. Amongst the spa treatments I have gotten at Burke Williams, highlights include:

    Pure Relaxation Massage
    Thermal Seaweed Wrap
Hunter's Retreat (hard to describe, but unlike anything experienced before)

I first discovered BW while I was searching for a decadent day spa to rediscover my zen during the frenzied days of planning my wedding. Boy, was I in for a treat! Some can do with no-frill spas, where they zip quickly in and out just for their massage, facial, etc. I am not one of those people. I like my amenities, and with extra perks such as cooling eye towels, cucumber slices, herbal tea, lemonade, lime & cucumber water, Burke Williams definitely delivers. Service is impeccable, and they even serve frozen grapes in the waiting room while you lounge on the couches, and peruse the provided magazines before your treatment.

All my therapists have been wonderful. I also brought my mom here for some quality mother-daughter time, and she loved it as well. She received the Spa Style Facial.

I've also been to the San Jose location with the Husband (he got a Deep Tissue Massage), but we much prefer the SF location.

I'm a definite FAN of Burke Willams... but I frequent the San Jose (Santana Row) location.. it was my 1st time to the SF location.

I only have 3 stars for this SF location because I did not have a good experience to start off with.. but this could have been a VERY VERY bad review had it not been for their wonderful manager.  I believe her name was Rachel.

When we arrived in SF for our appointment, we got there at 1pm for our 1:30pm appointment but could not find where the location was therefore did not know which garage was the best to park in... so we call Burke William customer service line... BE WARNED, CS is in So Cal so they can't help you with directions in SF.  We were transferred to the SF front desk but no one answered.... after 3 attempts we gave up and parked .. only to struggle to find the actual location.

Once we did find it, we were late so they had to reschedule us.. it was for my friends bday therefore the wonderful manager not only compensated us for our troubles but gave some extras to my friend for her bday.

I can honestly say, if it were not for the manager...  I would never go back to this BW again... but after all that... we did have an amazing experience... therefore, now that I know where it is.  I WILL BE BACK...

BUT... PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO HERE...

The best parking for this location is to park in the Mission St garage across from the entrance to Bloomingdales.  After you walk in the entrance go to the elevators by the door to the 5th floor.  This is the same floor as the movie theater entrance.. walk past the movie theater booths and the entrance to BW will be on your left.

    HAPPY SPA DAY!!

I was ready to give this place rave reviews, but after what I encountered I am VERY frustrated and angry with the disorganization of Burke Williams Spa. I planned on taking the deal for the mother/daughter special and spoke to a rep via the 800 ph. # to use the deal for mother's day.  The deal was 2 full-body Burke William massages for $249. I gave my credit card info. over the phone and was told the total for the special was $249 and we were booked.

The day of the treatment, all went well until we were about to leave. The rep at the front desk said I needed to pay. I told her that I thought I had already paid and she said "No". She said my total came to $280 and I said I thought it was $249 and again she said "No". I assumed the credit card info. I gave to the rep over the phone was for a deposit/hold for the appointment. I handed her my card and was charged $280.

A few days later I reviewed my credit card statements and I was charged $249 AND $280. Furious and frustrated I called the 800 # to request a refund for the $280. I spent 23 minutes on the phone being connected to various people. The first person on the phone transferred me to the Gift Card Services then to Burke Williams SF then to the Manager (with long periods of waiting in between).

The manager concluded I was wrongly charged and began to say "Ok we'll go ahead and refund your $249" and I immediately interrupted and said that it was the $280 I needed to be refunded because I NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE. He immediately said "oh I'm sorry, you're correct". And yet another disappointing experience from Burke Williams.

It has been 5 days since I spoke to the SF Manager and I HAVE YET TO BE REFUNDED. This is so ridiculous. A high-class spa should be able to handle these transactions carefully and follow-through on their mistakes.

Learn from my mistake, do not let them charge you twice or better yet, overcharge you.
