Burnaby, BC
This Burgoo popped out of nowhere, or it just seemed that way cause I'm not in Kitsilano that often. I visited this location just about two weeks after they opened. I'm always concerned about visiting new restaurant locations (even after two weeks of operation) simply cause restaurants don't always get all the kinks worked out. I have been to the W. 10th Ave. and Main St. locations a few times before visiting the new W. 4th Ave. location so I had a good idea of what to expect if this Burgoo was operating properly.
There is a good selection of dishes on the menu and every dish comes with a healthy portion. Stews, soups, salads, sandwiches, fondues and more. I kept it simple during this visit to the W. 4th location. I had a soup & sandwich combo with their version of the grilled cheese tomato soup and a strawberry lemonade.
The grilled cheese at Burgoo is not your standard grilled cheese sandwich. The "Gooey Cheese Grillers" consists of two large pieces of filone bread sliced in half, grilled and baked with mozzarella, gruyere, emmenthal and white cheddar cheeses. At least I think it's baked for the overflow of cheese to form the crunchy cheesy crust along the outside of the sandwich. Inside is all hot melted cheesy goodness.
The tomato soup was a perfect consistency and hot (too many restaurants serve soup that isn't hot enough), not too thick, sweet or tangy.
All my visits to previous Burgoos have met my expectations of excellent comfort food and the new Kitsilano location did not disappoint. -

Holy overrated, Batman!
About a year ago my husband and I met some friends at the North Van Burgoo and had a completely underwhelming meal - under-seasoned, flat boeuf bourgignon for me; fancy macaroni for my husband that was loaded with extras that only served to distract from what should have been a simple, oozy, gooey indulgence.
When my girlfriend suggested we go to the new Burgoo on 4th after getting our 'nails did' last night, I agreed, mostly to see if my boeuf bourginBLAH was a one-time miss. Sadly, it was not.
We started with salmon and potato cakes - $8 for two small ones. Definitely not worth $4 a cake judging by size alone. They were really dry and crumbly, I couldn't taste any tarragon at all and although I'm not usually one to insist in larger proportions of cheap ingredients, they definitely needed more potato to keep them moist and hold them together. The saffron remoulade, however...THAT was divine.
For mains I ordered the lamb tagine and my friend went with the ratatouille. Admittedly, Burgoo had the odds stacked against them already since I've already had the BEST. LAMB TAGINE. EVER. at Carthage Café (seriously, eat there!), but I was open to the experience. And hungry. But, it was another under-seasoned, flat dish. I could taste what they were TRYING to do, but the seasoning had no depth. And for the first time in as long as I can remember, I actually added salt to a restaurant dish! Probably the worst offender on the plate was the completely unseasoned couscous, it just sat there and looked pathetic. On the plus side, my veggies were cooked to perfection and I was given a very generous portion of tender lamb.
My friend's ratatouille was a bit better, but it had the unmistakable bite of heavy-handed, undercooked garlic. Furthermore, the dish was entirely veggies - no carb supplement as with all the other bistro dishes, so she ordered some bread to fill out her meal. BIG MISTAKE. We were given a cute bread pan filled with pre-sliced stale, hard, cold bread. Uhh...??
I like the comfort food concept of Burgoo; I like the warm cabiny ambiance; I like the heavy meaty portions and I LOVE the cheap wine list. But the food...well, to put it bluntly, it kind of stinks.Listed in: The Miss List

We went on a Saturday evening for a friend's Birthday celebration. We were told we couldn't reserve a table, but advised to turn up around 5:30. We had no problem getting a table.
The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone - even us food freaks ( 1x lactose intolerant and 1 x vegetarian). The service was a little slow and it took 15 minutes to get our hands on a bottle of wine, but the food was delicious. The food is rustic and unpretentious with healthy sized portions.
The atmosphere is chilled out with a healthy dose of background jazz music - not too intrusive and just loud enough to be enjoyable.
We'll definitely be going back. -

This place is awesome, I ordered the soups every time, and they are delicious. I love the white wine sangria, it comes with fruit. The service is excellent, fast, and reasonable pricing. Everything I've ordered has been good.

Soup soup and more delicious soup! With all this bad weather we have been enduring in Vancouver a bowl of soup from Burgoo was the perfect thing!

I have always loved the Point Grey and Mount Pleasant locations, but this new Kits location is now my favourite. It's got the same bistro classics that you've grown to love (Crab Bisque & Cheese Grillers are my favourite), but the space is much more comfortable - high ceilings and a more spacious interior so you don't feel like you're sitting on your neighbours lap! More space also means less chance of having to stand around waiting for a table.

I had heard so many amazing things about Burgoo but I was a little dissapointed by this place. I went for brunch not too long ago and ordered the green salad and the bruschetta. Both were good but not so amazing that they blew my mind. My partner ordered the croque monsier. It looked amazing but perhaps there was too much cheese? I never thought thoses words would come out of me! I'm a massive cheese lover but this dish was saturated beyond. The best part of the meal was the fresh apple juice that was so clouded and wonderful! I will give this place another go for dinner soon.

Been to all the Burgoos, the new west 4th ave and the Lonsdale locations are the best. All are very cozy with identical or very similar venues. Awesome comfort foods from around the world, authentic and delicious. Foodies will love.

A long-time patron of Burgoo on Main, the North Shore, and in Point Grey, I was so excited to see one open up right up the street from me. While the restaurant decor and atmosphere are consistent with the others, both the food and the service were underwhelming. In the first case, I was informed that they had switched the bouillon for all of their soups such that they were no longer gluten free. As a celiac who has long ago tired of their ratatouille, this leaves me with very few other options. When I expressed this concern to the server, she shrugged and suggested I combine two appetizers instead (one of them being fondue with corn chips..that was a first). The server was not rude but just extremely unhelpful, though, in fairness, making some of the only gluten free options on the menu glutinous is more of a management issue.

Fantastic comfort food. Went and shared some fondue and had the ratatouille. Granted, their ratatouille was sub-par, but the fondue made up for it and the other food offered looks really good.

I usually go to the Main st Burgoo until this one opened up. I went on opening night and there was great service and the food was just as good as the other ones! I think this one has more space than the other one - it might just be because it is still pretty new to the area. But either way, I love that it's opened up in Kits!
