Came back into Vancouver via the Barnett Highway, just to look at the fabulous inlet in the glorious sun today, and thought, Hastings Street equals Valley Bakery.

Slid into a parking place right across from VB. Upon leaving the bakery, with my precious sweets, I noticed I had parked in front of Burgers Etc BBQ. It was a sign. Yes, Eat here, now.

Got the nice window seat and ordered the 5 ounce beef brisket with a side of fries. Okay, visions of Texan brisket still too fresh in my memory. The brisket on a bun arrived with super hot fries, fragrant, tantalizing.

The brisket was good, slightly stiff for slow smoked; suggesting a bit of a rush through the smoker. Tasty, though, and good looking meat, which as it turns out, is from Cioffi's just down the street. And the buns are from Valley Bakery, which makes Burgers Etc high on the local supplier quotient.

Friendly wait staff, and the lovely chatelaine in charge of the cash today made this an especially fine late lunch. Nice raunchy blues playing, a good street scene (the Salvation Army thrift store is on the corner) and just a good neighbour vibe here.

I like Burgers Etc. It's an honest joint, a spot for dads to take the son for the meat fix, welcoming to all ages and darn tasty meat, too. Yeah, it's not Texas BBQ - it's Burnaby BBQ and that's fine 'cause if we eat here we support two other long time neighbourhood businesses.

Lots of street parking and small lots just off Hastings are free, too. Cash or debit only.

This place gets an "A" for effort.

Cute and cosy laid-back vibe, SUPER friendly and attentive staff,  cheap draft beer served in frosted mugs, reasonable prices, decent potato salad.

    But the burgers? Ehh...

I was pretty stoked to see that unless you state otherwise, they serve all their burgers medium-well, which is exactly how I like mine - a touch of pink and still juicy. Mine came out well-well done and kind of hard and dry. It also needed more seasoning, I found the overall taste to be a bit bland. I was also a little disappointed with the barely-pink tomato that graced my bun - way, way under-ripe, I pulled out the slices and ate it without.

The burger wasn't a total bust though, the bun was lovely and I could've easily eaten 20 of their dill pickles (I want to know where those came from!). I added a fried egg to my burger and it was perfectly done, with a runny yolk popping and oozing all over the meat. Good things aside, I can't totally forgive my over-cooked, under-seasoned beef.

I wish good things for this place, and I will be back for sure to try their in-house smoked BBQ. Hopefully they'll earn an upgrade!

This was one of the most delicious Burger Joints we've been to! We were visiting from Seattle and staying at the Howard Johnson hotel down the street. We happened to jump on Yelp and found that this place had good reviews. People weren't exaggerating about the deliciousness of the food!! I had a grilled onion and cheddar burger with fries and my boyfriend had a bacon cheeseburger with brisket vegetable soup. The burgers were large, juicy and delicious, the fries were flavorful and lightly dusted with some sort of yummy seasoning, and the soup had a smokey and amazing flavor and was so thick it was more like a stew...so good!!

It's a small, cozy little restaurant and the staff were really nice and conversed often with us at our table. They only take Canadian debit cards or cash and we didn't have either but they let us know there was an ATM literally right across the street, very convenient! Overall a very good experience and excellent, delicious food!! If we ever visit Burnaby again, we'll definitely go back :)

Burger craving hit me big time after viewing one of MarcD's photos recently.  You know those cravings?  The one where you are so sure that the hunger will consume you from the inside and turn you inside out unless you get a big juicy meaty cheesy burger soon?  That kind of craving.  Yah.  So rather than implode and turn in on my self like a dying quasar, I called up Burger etc for a take-out order.

It was delicious.  Every part of it was tasty and full of flavour and apart from the fact that I almost dislocated my jaw eating the gigantic thing, it was perfect.

Macaroni salad was very nice.  Egg-y and creamy with just the right amount, and size of veggies.  I"m glad I decided to try this today.  The cheeseburger platter is a great meal.  (Pic:  http://www.yelp.co.uk/... )

Really ... you guys should change your name ... Burgers Etc. just doesn't do you justice. My Wife is a big BBQ fan and we wanted to put on a meal at our place for her birthday, so thanks to Yelp decided to check out Burgers Etc. as opposed to our old favourite who's left North Vancouver. We ate in (Mar '12), it was great, we just ordered the platter for 1-2 people, and took half the food home.

This week we ordered two 3-4 person platters, plus 2 lbs of Ribs, and proceeded to feed 16 people, and had leftover lunch for 3 people, and still had to freeze some. We ordered over the phone, it was being packed as we arrived on time, and got it home hot, tasty, filling and generally awesome!!

My only complaints are the sizing guidelines on the menu, and the deceptive name. I'm glad we came in first to try, otherwise we would have thought it was WAY too expensive compared to the other option in town, and never have found out how great it was.

Must try their pulled pork cheese fries! Huge portion for $9.95 to share with the party.

Very impressed with the food, location not so great - not too appealing but don't judge a book by its cover like you've always been told. Plenty of street parking and accessible by transit.

I'm a happy camper, will def return!!

One of the better burger joints in town, Burgers Etc is a small shop on Hastings Street in Burnaby.

I would suggest sticking to the traditional burgers instead of wandering to the BBQ side of things.

I love the putting on bacon and a fried egg on my burgers...you don't know what you're missing out! Fries are decent here and the coleslaw is good too. I usually order my burger medium instead of the regular medium well here.

They also have a chipotle sauce for your fries if you ask.

There are two schools of thought for Burgers ETC, and if I were to visit again, I would definitely stay with the Burger side of things. The BBQ leaves a lot to be desired.

So for Burgers it's a 4 star, for the BBQ it's a 2 star for a 3 star rating. It's a good thing I went with enough people and kids to sample basically everything.

    The Good
    - The burger is a little on the small sized side (maybe it was just me, but the patty and bun seemed to be). That is made up for in taste and toppings.
    - Coleslaw. I'm a coleslaw guy, and here it is of the creamy variety but not too creamy, and very tasty. Good job on it.

    The NOT so Good
    - If you're going with group of more than 4, I'd say go elsewhere, especially during a busy night of the week. It's a cramped space and good for 2 or 4.
    - The BBQ was just weird. I do concur with the comments of Marc D. The brisket in sauce, while the kids love it, isn't really made for adults who know what good BBQ brisket is about. The ribs where dry. Maybe they ran out of BBQ from putting so much on the brisket.
    - Portion for BBQ was also on the borderline low end.

    The Non-Descript
    - Milkshakes were really nothing to write home about. Not Good, Not Bad. So, so.

    -----
    Bottomline
Will I go back? Sure, but only for a burger.

Easy on the hype.  The burgers are just average.  Too thin in my opinion but passable. I have encourtered worse problems on visits here though. Not impressed at all with this place. the food took FOREVER to come out of the kithcen.and there were only 3 tables in the place.  the most unfriendly wait staff i've encoutered in a long time.  Did not come back once to check on us after the food was finally delivered. I had to stand up and wave both arms to get her attention.  i won't be going back.

    Best Burgers in Burnaby!

Oh so good, yummy and made perfectly. I am usually stuffed by just eating the burger but if you get a chance to order the fries with gravy and cheese.. do so. It is delish. Great for sharing between others as a side dish.

Give this local burger joint in the Heights a try. You won't be dissapointed.

This has to be the best place for burgers in the Lower Mainland with Romer's Burgers and Burger Heaven are second and third place contenders respectively. They only have only one burger on their menu. They have a lot of garnishes and miscellenous to order for a reasonable price. They also have other items on their menu since they have that "Memphis blues" ambiance with saxophone and trumpets on the wall with portraits of famous Blues singers.  They also have an assortment of BBQ menus. My friend says the BBQ chicken was "finger-lickin'" good.

They don't have fountain sodas and only cans. So no refills. They have bottles of beer too.

The staff has always been courteous. .

My family and I dined here last night. Well, I have to agree with a previous review (should have read it!) Don't bother with the etc. part.. stick to the burgers!

I am blessed to have kind sweet men in my family who let me sample.

We ordered a double size (2 lbs) of ribs for the table to share. $29 was a real waste of money imo. They were okay in the taste dept, nothing special.. but TOUGH. Definitely not the rib experience I was looking for.

The pulled pork sandwich was okay.. not mind bending but one of the better ones I've tried.

    Chicken burger, also pretty good.

    The beef burger was AWESOME!
My ribs came with 2 sides.. I chose the supposedly 'creamy' coleslaw, which seemed like just cabbage with a tiny bit of dressing you couldn't taste, no creaminess at all.

The other side, mushrooms, were absolutely wonderful. Seriously, even my mom who is an amazing mushroom cook, comes in 2nd to these. The best, freshest yummiest mushrooms I ever had.

So a very mixed review.. from really good to pretty bad.

A few little adjustments from the chef and this place could earn 5 stars. The service was excellent and the ingredients in their food seemed really fresh and top notch.

Easy parking in their lot behind or on the street.

Simply a great burger. Thick, hot and juicy, and a solid selection of classic add-ons to make it perfect. What takes it over the top for me is the bun. It was fresh and tasty, yet sturdy enough to stay together through every bite. The fries and onion rings are really good, too, but it's the burger that is the star of the meal.

They say they serve the meat "medium well". Mine was perfect, but my wife and son said theirs were a little over-cooked.

Bottled beverages are reasonably priced (no refills), and the service was really friendly and quick for this quaint little restaurant. A nice surprise when the chef/owner (?) brought over a little bowl of chocolate ice cream for my son at the end of the meal.

    * Lesson for me:  Never choose the "etc" *

Ok.  This place gets good reviews for its burgers.  But I haven't tried those.  I was silly and tried the "etc" from the menu.  (To be fair they seem to have two points of focus - burgers and BBQ.)  I can't pass up good BBQ, so I had to try to see if this was an unknown BBQ gem hiding in an "etc" comment of a business name.

I got the BBQ sampler plate, which included brisket, ribs, beans and coleslaw.

At least the beans were tasty.  They had nice chunks of meat in them to add flavour to the sauce.

Sadly the brisket and ribs were truly sub-par.

BBQ Rule #1:  Smoke the meat long and slow.
    -------------------------------------------------- --------------
I don't think they have a smoker.  They seem to cook the meat on the same grill they do the burgers.  The ribs had a distinct "flame-broiled" taste.

BBQ Rule #2:  Don't hide the meat with sauce.
    -------------------------------------------------- --------------
They smothered the meat with so much sauce it would have made a Texan cry.

BBQ Rule #3:  Brisket should have a nice crust and a smoke ring
    -------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------
This was the strangest presentation of BBQ brisket I have ever experienced.  It was sliced really thinly - kind of like deli meat and then stirred together with gobs of the sauce.  I think they may have sliced before cooking it in the sauce.  Very odd.  The meat ended up tasting like deli roast beef with a bit of sauce.

BBQ Rule #4 (or lesson learned):  Don't get BBQ at a place that calls its BBQ "etc."!

It's all true - this place slaps the meat between the buns better than just about any place in town. And what about that meat? I haven't actually ordered a hamburger, just stolen bites from the husband's plate (he's good like that). The patty is perfectly tender and tasty, the best I've had that wasn't made by my Dad. I like the offerings from the BBQ side of the menu, like melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork sandwiches with sweet n' smoky BBQ sauce and big juicy Italian sausages that take a little strategizing to eat, but are well worth the effort.

This is a tiny place, with the smell of barbecue and grilled meat that fills up the red-and-black room and makes my tummy growl and my taste buds go poing. That's why I'm making it my review no. 500: it's completely milestone-worthy.

The only drawbacks are the sides. I really haven't found anything spectacular on non-meat side of my plate - the beans are bland, and the fries taste a little prefab. Fresh-cut fries, for example, would make an already amazing burger meal really sing.

But they get it so right with the thick and creamy milkshakes (which can be boozed up), and a nice selection of red wines that go well with barbecue and don't pretend to be all fancylike.

Good burgers, good times, small prices.

Had a burger craving last night and I was taken to this place.  FANTASTIC burger.  It has that feeling/taste of a homemade burger.  They are cooked to medium well (although they will cook it longer if that freaks you out).  The toppings are fresh.  The bun is delish.  I had the potato salad as a side and it too, was good.  My only complaint is the ketchup they use is sub-par (aka cheap brand) and you can really taste it (al least i can, but i'm a ketchup snob).  I'm interested in trying out the BBQ side of their business, but think i'm going to have a hard time getting past the burger.
Also to note, they serve Boylan sodas which are quite possibley some of the best soda's around.

Good burger for a good price, how could you ask for more? Buns are fresh, meat isn't from a frozen patty and all the fixings you could want on a burger. Pair that with some of their cheep draft beer and you're set.

I must admit I've never had any of the "etc' items but I hear the pulled pork is good.

If you are craving a very good burger, this place will NOT disappoint! They offer big juicy grilled sirloin burgers that taste heavenly. Your choice of sides include fries, salad, beans, corn or potato salad; I have tried each side in separate visits and was never let down. The service is friendly and efficient and you have the option of take-out as well. Other menu options include ribs and pulled beef sandwiches. YUMMY!

    The place is licensed too.

One drawback is that they accept only cash or debit as payment. I really hope they change that soon.

But this place truly gets my thumbs up for its menu...a good place to go to squelch that burger craving! It's also a very cute place to take a date too!

It would be 5 stars but the fries were incredibly disappointing (very soggy).  I've been here twice now and someone has always gotten the pulled pork sandwich which is absolutely fantastic.  If it's your first time here you should strongly consider the pulled pork.  The rest of the BBQ is ok... I'd suggest the burgers over anything else, to be honest.  I'm American, however, and not easily impressed by BBQ; this stuff is acceptable, but it's not going to change your life.

Took my dad for lunch today as we were both craving burgers....

The burgers were great and meaty - very filling and flavorful.  The cheddar wasn't amazing - maybe there wasn't enough? but the veggies were great and the fries and coleslaw were both amazing.  I would have prefered a better bun, it was a bit blah, and I was dissapointed with the $1.50 for a can of coke...

Heating was busted, and upon checking out the ladies room (girls you will appreciate this) the doors of the stalls are SUPER high and you could see the toilets from under the doors - not a lot of privacy since the actual door saying "Women" was ajar.... this kinda messed up the experience...

The coleslaw had dill or mustard seed - couldn't place it - and was awesome...and the burger patty itself rates a solid 4, but overall, this is a 3 based on the wierd bathroom-ness (I always check these out), the boring bun, heating and canned coke.

    But I'd go again :)

This place is extremely good.  Perhaps it's the fact that it's further away, so I rarely get t o go.  So I find myself thinking of excuses to go to Burnaby, to make a lunch stop at Burgers Etc. seem like a nice coincidence.

The burgers here taste high quality- they're seasoned well.  The burger's enough to fill me up, so I usually donate my side to the others at my table.

There was too much meat! I never say that... I never even think that. I eat a lot of meat. This place is awesome!

We were hanging out with my friends, somewhat celebrating their engagement (Whoo, Wedding 2012), and someone suggested burgers. Burgers you say? The groom had mentioned he always wanted to go to Burgers Etc. I used to work in the area and heard about it all the time. The time is nigh.

Free parking! It was after six, so we could park longer than an hour. It boasts the best burgers in Vancouver... I got the pulled pork sandwich, but everyone else at the table got the burger. I wanted coleslaw with my sandwich, but since I could get it inside the sandwich, I opted to pay more and get fries. So glad I did. The fries were perfectly fried and hot (temperature hot, not spicy hot)! I chose to get mine with gravy, and my friend got hers with mayo. It's like McChicken Sauce, but tangier. Wow. So AWESOME. There was so much meat in my sandwich, I couldn't even finish it. Most of the time, I just eat the meat and leave the bread, but I was so full, I couldn't do it. I feel like a failure. Oh, and the pickles are wonderful!

The servers are really nice and attentive. Our waters were refilled, they made sure we were happy. The prices were good... oh and they have coke in a can. I hate plastic bottled coke (it's not fizzy enough and I don't drink more than half of one, so what a waste), and I only like some fountain coke (like McDonald's).

I want to be a regular here!

I admit it, I have been to Burger's Etc. at least half a dozen times and have yet to have ordered anything but their "Best" burger; so named because of the numerous best burger votes it has received from various community publications.

I stick with the burger because it is, well, the best burger I have ever had. A perfectly cooked and seasoned patty sits on a bakery fresh bun that is then stacked high with fresh tomatos and lettuce, and if you choose, cheese, bacon, or fried onions or mushrooms. No matter how you like to dress your burger, you won't be disappointed with this juicy belly-filler. Indulge yourself with one of their old fashioned milkshakes (including adult versions with Kaluha or Baileys) - served with metal mixing cup on the side -and you will leave stuffed and satisfied at a reasonable price.

The owner is usually at the open grill and he greets you with a warm hello when you enter, and hearfelt thanks for coming when you leave.

Burgers Etc. opened in 2005; if it doesn't change a thing I am sure it will be in business for many years to come. I definitely recommend giving it a try if you are ever in in the Burnaby Heights section of Hastings Street.

This is a must stop if you got 10-15 dollars to spend on lunch and you're around Hastings and Gilmore. With your 10 dollars, you can order the "best burger" in the lower mainland which in my opinion is NOT! the best burger in the lower mainland. Though the burger is good and the bread is baked daily from the Italian bakery across the street, we all know that the best burgers are the homemade burgers made by you. Just imagine you building a giant meat bowling ball with your hands and poorly cook it where its burnt on the outside but raw in the inside. Then you sandwich that meat bowling ball between two tiny buns and a slice of lettuce. Now that is the best burger in the lower mainland (if you live in the L. Mainland).

My suggestion is this: go to Burgers Etc and order their Lrg brisket sandwich (go big or go home) with fries and a diet coke. You will be satisfied.
