A group of us went here last night and had a pretty good time. I've been here once before and thought that it was your typical bar on 17th ave, too crowded, which is was but it wasn't so bad. However I will DEFINITELY be going back here again. My bf got too drunk and when he went to lean on the 'wall' he landed dead on his butt in the washroom. In his defence the door to the washroom was the same as the wall so it blended in and I had no clue there was a washroom there. So when he landed on his butt, without spilling his drink, the bouncer came up behind me and actually HELPED me pick him up. Now, I've lived in Calgary my whole life and have seen many bouncers in this city and in my opinion, they're all ********. I understand that they deal with drunks all night but let's be honest, we've all seen them abusing they're jobs and bullying people around. THIS bouncer however, is one of the few exceptions to that. When he went to pick my bf up (who weighs 150lbs soaking wet) I blurted out 'He's just drunk, please don't be mean to him' and he actually smiled. He gave a lil laugh and said 'Don't worry, I won't' In 2 seconds he had my bf up off the floor, asked him if he was alright, and said that we would have to go. Then he turned to me and handed me a plastic cup WITH A LID and said, 'Here's a cup, just don't let the guys outside see.' I had just gotten a beer and since we had to go he actually gave me a to go cup. I was floored. I've not gone back to bars before because of bad bouncers and I will definitely be going back here again because of the great bouncer!! So impressed

My experience at Bungalow is a bit tainted by the company that I kept on the occasion that I went, but I'm trying hard to be objective.
Bungalow Lounge itself is a decent lounge in Calgary. it's not mind-blowing, it's not jaw-dropping and it's not the most impressive lounge I've ever been in (or even close), but it's alright.
I love that it's on 17th, so if the scene just isn't workin' for ya, there are multiple other places you can wander into on the same stretch.
The service was fine, the drinks and appetizers were fine, and the music was fine.
The one thing that wasn't fine was the dude that I was with. Bleh. I should write a book about how 'NOT' to act on a first date. Where do these boys come from? Seriously.
Anyways, bad company aside, like I said, Bungalow is alright. It scores 3 stars out of 5. -

Mariachi was fantastic, the service was not.
Only been here 3 times over the past 2 years, and they have consistently hit on the same cord.
I like the interior decor, but low service, same product and no real "wow" anymore. -

I was at the Bungalow on Saturday night and I have to say it was fabulous. The food and staff were awesome and did I say the food was awesome... They have a new chef apparently and he came out of the kitchen a few times to make sure all was good. Great Service and Great Food! I would give it a try.

Bungalow grabbed a prime spot on the most popular block in Calgary nightlife real estate and it's done well, establishing its place as a decent venue to lounge in Calgary.
I remember when it first opened several years ago that there was no other lounge quite as suave. Dark woods adorn this place from top to bottom, finished with sexy light fixtures. I kid you not...every time I go, I think I'm visiting the basement of Ron Burgundy's house or something. So if you have a leisure suit, it *may* fit in nicely here. I jest -- you're more likely to find the trendily dressed and the corporate suits out after their daily grind.
They were one of the first on 17th Avenue to have ridiculous drink prices (years ago their martinis were $9 and I *think* they've jumped to $11 or 12) and now they don't seem so crazy since other places have followed suit. This is why I'd still rather go to Ming and their respectable $8.50 martinis make your recession dollars go further. But Bungalow has decent food (jumbo shrimp to die for) and the DJ spins some wicked stuff.
So pop by for a drink or do it in style with a scotch ala Ron Burgundy: "I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly..." -

Considering we are in Calgary, this is not a bad place. Nothing out of this world, just fancier than most lounges i have seen on 17th ave. Packed on the weekends which limits seating. Lots of people standing and chit chatting like they should have just kept it in their own living room.
