Amazingly delicious Americano here. The owner recently switched to Fernwood coffee. When he opened many roasters offered to buy his equipment but then he'd be bound to use their coffee. He refused. He started with 49th Parallel but said something changed and the quality wasn't as good so he switched.

I also had a coconut/ginger scone that was memorable. In fact I woke up this morning thinking about it. There were little chunks of candied ginger in it - so good! The atmosphere is comfortable and we sat behind the action at the bar overlooking the cafe. Perfect place to hang out with a friend!

Fantastic coffee and baked goodies. None of the uppity attitude found at some other coffee joints. Could use a few more tables.

Good coffee, but a little sour. Good treats and even some gluten free.

$3.08 for an extremely bitter drip coffee seemed a bit much but the staff are very likeable and the atmosphere makes for a nice meeting spot. 3.5 stars.

I visited this place a few times over the years but only recently learned to really appreciate it.  In recent months it seems to be much cleaner and the staff seem happier and way more dedicated. When I visited yesterday it was very evident in my cappuccino. It was smooth and sweet and creamy.

They use a clover machine for their 'drip' coffee which is typically tasty - I will return very soon to sample these brews.

Their baked goods looks pretty good too...and I will indulge on my next visit.

UPDATE: I did it. Or rather Bump and Grind did it. They definitely deserve an extra star. Happily bumping and grinding them up to four stars. One day I will drop by for an Aeropress. Let's see how far we can go...

Hay hey. Not bad. 3 stars but it won't take much for me to give them 4. I'll have to go back a few more times.

I've been meaning to try this place for a while but I am seldom in this neighbourhood. They switched from 49th Parallel beans to Origins a couple years ago according to the barista.

I asked if they had a fruitier, lighter bean. He suggested the El Salvador and made me a cup on the clover. Once it cooled down a bit it was pretty good. It was a little thin on flavour and had a bit of a sour finish. Was it the beans or the way they were extracted? Depends who you ask.

    I recently received an e-mail from an expert in the field of cupping. He informed me of some misconceptions I've made in the past so I will try to be more conscientious with the semantics here;

Apparently it is unlikely the coffee tasted sour due to under-roasted beans. It is more likely due to the way the barista extracted the beans. This does make sense to me. I tried these same beans at another cafe and they did taste more robust and sweet to me. So apparently the sour taste was due to the calibration of the Clover and/or the person operating the machine using too much grounds or too little water and/or water that may or may not have been hot enough.

Man, now I've confused myself. Coffee is complicated. Let's face it -I'm not terribly certain why certain coffees taste better than others. However Origins beans in the right hands are consistently great.

I got a little flustered at the sugar & cream station. I wasn't sure what was in that thermos. Was it cream? milk? vegan soy? pureed tofu? This is Commercial Dr. it could be anything. Thankfully it was cream. The clean spoon and dirty spoon tins both contained, near as I could tell, dirty spoons and they might be one of those anti-sleeve places. Those are all minor things though. Anyhow, I quite like this little place. It's simple and understated and bright. I will try them again. Oh, and the carrot cake was excellent too.

We get our whole bean coffee here and find ourselves stopping by for americano's quite frequently.  Best coffee on the drive and maybe Vancouver!

I don't like to be so critical but I was very disappointed with the service there. I thought maybe the guy working there was just having a bad day the first time I went there so I shook it off and didn't take it personally. The next time I went in, the same guy was working and was even more of an @ss h0le. All I wanted was a latte and asked him to leave room for cream and he replied "you don't add cream to a latte" and didn't leave room for the cream!

Holy moly! Its only coffee and its the end of the world for him should you ask for any modifications.

    I don't see nothin' wroooooooonnnngggg....

So I went in thinking that it would be pretentious filled with mulletted women and unkept bearded men who are too cool for school (because this is what I've heard about Commercial Drive and the people that hang out there). Anyhow, this wasn't the case at all! From other reviews I was expecting them to be super pretentious jerks but that wasn't it at all.

The guy who helped me was very friendly and smiley, even though it was a rainy day. He was patient because I take a while deciding and he helped me out. He seems to like his job which is always a good thing. The latte I ordered was delicious! His half-sweet caramel latte suggestion was great. The lattes are a bit pricey but standard for around this quality, and they're the "traditional" and not "tall" size, which is a bit smaller.

They're renovating and redoing their furniture... And by redoing I mean they're actually building their new furniture. The guy who was helping me choose something to get has apparently helped build the tables! They're really cool looking tables, made of wood, with random nuts and bolts in them... They looked pretty cool.

This place is pretty far from me but they're super delicious and friendly and they have wifi so I'm definitely gonna head over when I have some work to do (and the time to travel to do it) and hope that they're just as lovely the second time around.

At first glance: hipster pretentious through and through. Instead of foamed milk, it's 'textured' milk. When you order coffee, they offer you a bag of beans to sniff and approve. And the server's explanation of how to use a French press (so difficult!) also was unnecessary.
BUT, it's done in the uber-friendly and guileless Vancouver way, and the coffee IS really good and distinct tasting, so I'll just accept it as a funny quirk and let it pass. They don't make you feel stupid when they do it, in fact it kind of feels like the joke's on them. It is a bit drafty though. Crank up the heat, shaggy-haired barista man!

The name makes it sound like a nightclub, and it even looks like a nightclub, but Bump N Grind is actually just a coffee shop that caters to the avant-garde techno beatniks, people who look like film students, or video game programmers.

A relatively new store, it has decided to compete against the other 101 coffee shops on Commercial Drive by creating a more modern ambiance, as opposed to say archaic and Italian. Somehow combining retro with new age, it feels trendy, in a BYOLaptop sort of way.

The coffee is nothing special, and the side dishes are run of the mill, but it feels kind of cool to be sipping espresso somewhere that looks like the milk bar from Clockwork Orange, minus the statues that shoot hallucinogenic milk out of their breasts.

Oh so soft and gentle in the mornings here at the B&G that offers wifi. The new two man show here has been a big hit since they took over about 1yr or so ago..

Serving 49th Parallel Coffee is such a treat, They are one of few the cafes in the city that freshly grind the beans for each and every cup of coffee as they make it, so so euro fresh !!

Sweet relaxing music, this cafe picks up as the morning does, it's peak times are late mornings. and afternoons, as they start to grind. They have a real social style long table in the front window and revolving local art on the walls.. The busy Commercial Drive offers a funky assortment of people watching at all times...

Bump N Grind is a "one person" show located at the North End of Commercial Drive. The two owners seem to be very passionate about their coffee. They use beans primarily from 49th Parallel Roaster (the roaster for Cafe Artigiano, Prado, and others.) Overall, their Espresso and Lattes are very good. Recently; however a large (16oz) Latte contains two...that's right...two DOUBLE Shots of Espresso!  In my opinion this is overkill!! It is now the highest price latte in town at $4.50.  The decor is interesting - ever changing art on the walls, and funky retro vintage furniture. It can be a comfortable place to relax and enjoy a coffee. Worth giving it a shot.

Pros - Nice location, parking is available nearby, Espresso is high quality, comfortable seating - if you get a spot!
Cons - The price! and Service can be slow if there are a few customers at the same time - with only one person running the show.

this place used to be awesome. the owner/manager was really on top of things and did an awesome job of making it a cool place to hang out. now it is completely different. they took out all the comfy chairs and couches and it is stark white--no art or anything interesting on the wall. the tables and chairs are angular and hard and uncomfortable. and if you want to grab a coffee and get some work done on your laptop-forget about it. they've removed all the electrical outlets supposedly due to "abuse".
the coffee and baristas used to be top notch--but this time i ordered an iced latte and it was extremely bitter, acidic and sour, like the espresso was really old or just bad quality, or perhaps a poorly pulled shot. I also had a lavender lemon bar which was wrapped in plastic (ew) and so mushy, soggy and tasteless that I threw it out after one bite (and at $3.50 each that's a pretty expensive bite).
When i asked the male barista what happened to the place, he disdainfully sneered at me and rolled his eyes, like I was asking him some outrageous question.
this place used to be so cool and have awesome service and coffee, what happened?

the best double shot black americano on the drive. staff are awesome, knowledgeable and have great taste in music. i love this coffee joint!

Just a side story, the last time I was in the Beatles Revolver album was playing and I swear at least 6 people in the shop were humming or singing along. I almost wanted someone to break out in a dance. So great.

They have 49th Parallel coffee!! This has got to be one of the best coffees in Vancouver!  The set up is great for a coffee date or meeting. I also loved the triple berry muffin!  However, the choice of pastries is slim.
