Wow, this place is fantastic! The fish is amazing, super friendly service, and the atmosphere is super cool.
A must when in Yellowknife! -

Okay, let me clear up a few things about Bullocks coming from a locals point of view:
It is hands down the best, freshest fish in Yellowknife. Besides maybe that guy who sells fish out of his truck in front of KFC. (not even kidding, that stuff is fantastic)
Bring a business card, photo, crude bumper sticker, expired ID, Sharpie marker or whatever else you want to help deface the interior and leave your mark.
Do not expect prompt or friendly service. Help yourself to drinks from the fridge, they'll count the bottles after you eat. Due to liquor laws you'll have to ask first for alcohol though.
It is ridiculously expensive. Seriously, avoid anything on the menu listed as "market price".
On that note, portions are huge, so bring a friend, preferably one who will pick up the tab.
I've eaten there on two dates, a birthday and whenever a friend comes to town and asks to go there. It is not a regular nosh spot by any means but I'll be damned if the pan-fried pickeral and the house made feta salad dressing bring me back smiling every time. -

This is a great restaurant. The person who speaks of "low quality fish" must be an unscrupulous competitor or something. I live in California as you can see from my other reviews, and I have absolutely no ulterior motive in saying this is a fantastic fish joint, with superb fish and huge portion size. I had grilled Arctic Char, btw. This is the best restaurant I have encountered in Northern Canada, and if there were a restaurant like this near my home we would eat here all the time.
As to the complaints about service, it is true that the guy waiter here tonite (8/15/10) seemed pretty lazy (he was sitting at the bar eating most of the time), but the main hostess/waitress lady was very efficient and very helpful and friendly. -

I read that Readers Digest claimed this was the best fish and chip place in Canada and it was the best arctic char I ever had, except for a few fries I cleaned my plate and anyone that knows me knows that that says a lot! Yes the service was less than stellar, but it was packed. It was pricey but typical for a restaurant north of 60, I thought it was worth every penny!

The food is good but the service is horrible. How hard is it to hire someone who is a buffer from the cranky people who work there? If I hear one more person say, "That's part of the charm" I will choke slam them and put them in the figure four.
The last three times I ate there it took forever so that I was actually drinking my own saliva and tears. At that point, I would have eaten a baby raven.
Also, the prices are ridiculous. If someone else is paying and you have hours to waste, go for it.
Be warned: bad service and cranky workers are not what the north is about.

Expensive food and poor service are the two impressions I took away when I left this place. If you are looking for soggy fries and deep fried low quality fish, look no further! A lot of people rave about the rustic and historic charm of this restaurant but that does not make up for the poor service. Steer clear.

Excellent food although a bit pricey, but great down home atmosphere and never had a bad meal!
