Finally went to Bulldog Coffee, was not disappointed!
The coffee is delicious, probably one of the best cappuccinos I've had. The foam has latte art- mine looked like a puppy's face, while my date's looked like a leaf. So pretty.
Out of their baked goods, I selected a blueberry scone, which was huge. It was good as well. Prices are decent too, so that's a plus.
The downside is the amount of seating, which is limited. Also the decor is kind of blah, and the music's too loud. Those are little things though, the friendly service and coffee is enough to make me go back again. I still have to try the location around Wellesley, we'll see how that compares. -

I love to drink coffee. I may not know coffee as much as professional baristas may, but I love it. And lately, I've been in a search of independent coffee shops.
I ordered Americano, The Bull Dog (Latte), Blanco Bull Dog (White Mocha):
- Americano: There is nothing special to Americano. It wasn't fresh like the beans were roasted just yesterday, but it was definitely more fresh than mass corporate coffee shops. Disappointingly, it didn't have much crema to it.
- The Bull Dog: I LOVED their latte. I don't know how they did it, but the steamed milk was so creamy, and soft. And latte art is the bonus. AMAZING!!
- Blanco Bull Dog: Althought blanco bull dog is just white mocha added to the bull dog, it was different. It was really sweet, and it felt like it was sweetened with cheap syrup. It didn't have heavy white mocha flavor to it.
The place is pretty small (about 16ppl max?), so it'd be hard to grab a table during busy hour. But interior is really neat, simple, and bright.
I would definitely return for their Bull Dog latte later. It is great place to drop by if you happen to be in the area and grab a cup of latte. -

Just a few blocks east of Yonge on Eg. It's a bit bare bones (white walls; no decor as mentioned; wooden table and chairs) but for me, I'm not working here. I'm grabbing and going so it doesn't matter. Quite friendly staff. Cash only.
I DRINK/EAT
They make a great chai latte here. Me likey. And those butter croissants? Perfect if you haven't had breakfast and need something to satiate quick. They have other croissants and pastries too.

I enjoyed a cup of good coffee whenever I am working at Yonge/Eglinton. Although Bulldog is known for one of the first cafes to offer latte art, I am not a fan of latte or fancy coffee drinks. I always have an americano sans cream or sugar to taste the freshly roasted beans. Definitely one of the best cafes in town. Services here is friendlier than its Church/Gerrad location.

If I going to rate just on Bulldog's Bulldog ($3.50), I would have give it a 4.5 star. One of the best cappucino/latte I had lately.
You just know that you are drinking a good coffee when you drinking one. Velvety, smooth, balanced... good to the last drop...lovely latte art (no it is not a quote from a commercial!!)
Then Why not that 4 star??
- limited seatings
- no WIFI (maybe it is a blessing so you might get a seat!!)
- a little out of the way... but worth your while if you want a good drink
- doesn't have much character in deco... I think it is kind of cheesy having the huge print out from newspaper articles about how good their coffees are...
I will be back!! At least this location is closer to me than their downtown location! -
Review from Terry P.
The lattes here are delicious - so smooth and creamy. I haven't had a lot of their baked goods but I do know that most of them are their own products instead of being brought in from a commercial bakery, which is refreshing. The biscotti are huge!
The decor is a little sterile but it's comfortable enough, and it's normally fairly quiet if you want to hang out and read for an hour or so.
Their prices are all even with tax included - $3.50, $4.00, etc. None of this $2.71 stuff. And, they accept cash only, which I'm a big fan of. If you can't be bothered to carry around a few dollars in case you want to buy a latte, you don't deserve one. -

It always makes me so happy to see new independent coffee shops arriving on the Y&E scene with so many chains dominating the market, especially since sitting in a coffee shop debating life's little things is one of my favourite ways to spend an afternoon.
Bulldog coffee does a pretty good job! The decor is almost entirely white and black with very simple brown chairs and tables (check the pictures out) and although it's comfortable I prefer a coffee shop with more of a comfy, cozy feel to it.
Having said that the coffee has a great taste. We tried their 'Blanco Bull Dog' - a white hot chocolate with an espresso shot that came with a pretty design onto, and their medium 'americano' ($3) that was served in a big clear glass mug.
Their squares and biscotti's look delicious and the staff is very friendly. The shop is very wheelchair friendly and the bathroom is big and clean.
Anyway, give this place a try, it gives the Starbucks and Second Cups of the world a good run for their money. That logo though? Is there not copy right infringement issues there? -

I was excited by the rumour that the Bulldog would be opening a second storefront. I was thrilled that the new location would be so close to home, in the increasingly caffeinated Yonge-Eglinton corridor.
Walking into the comparatively huge new space, I realize that I have a critical choice to make: the Bulldog sits blocks away from Aroma, my usual for a cup of not-so-average Joe.
Before I so much as sip, I am torn by divided loyalties. I've long been a fan of Aroma. The coffee's good, the people are friendly, and I welcome the selection of light and healthy lunch items.
That said, a trip to the Bulldog's original location just makes me feel good about myself. I don't often have occasion to walk down Church Street, but the tiny coffee shop in the shadow of Maple Leaf Gardens was always worth a special trip. Even when I mistakenly said that the original shop was part of the actual Village, only to be sharply corrected by the campy curmudgeon of a barista.
The coffee here is as good as ever, although the service is even less friendly. Our bored barista provides perfunctory answers to questions, and waves us over to a poorly-labelled display case of scones and cookies. They look tasty, but if he can't be bothered to tell us what's in there, we can't be bothered to order.
The dude may be mean, but he makes a really mean cup of joe. The Bulldog's namesake drink still coaxes a lingering sweetness from smooth espresso and microfoamed milk. It's still a relative bargain at three dollars and change, and I'm still left staring at the bottom of my cup wanting more. Any mention of the Bulldog North or South must cite cite their prominence in latte art circles. As ever, the drinks are as pretty to look at as they are to drink. What the staff lacks in manners, it makes up for in precision and training.
Next time I'm in the neighbourhood and looking to splurge on my umpteenth caffeine fix of the day, I'll pay the Bulldog a visit. Otherwise, I'd say the competition is nipping at this spot's heels.Listed in: If I Can't Have My Coffee…

They're so many places in the Y&E area where one can grab some coffee; Bulldog is the new addition to the area.
Bulldog Coffee is small, clean, sleek and modern looking. Upon walking in I was greeted by the friendliest person who took my order. The entire staff was super friendly, chatty and happy. Also, the cafe has a nice glass counter where they had big baked goods that look fresh and yummy. They have a variety of coffee drink options, teas, iced drinks etc. There is a little patio outside of the cafe and some tables inside. There isn't a lot of space inside and the tables are somewhat close together.
I ordered a soy Bulldog- a cappuccino latte hybrid ($4.50). They had no cup sizes and made my coffee drink in a paper cup which could fill up around 13oz. The barista took time making my drink and made it really well with a heart on top. I destroyed the coffee art in an instant when I whisked in some coco powder and threw the lid on.
The coffee was really good- both soy and coffee were smooth, hot and delicious! However, I thought that 13oz of coffee for almost $5 is way too expensive. I personally think their prices here in the Y&E area is going to hurt their establishment as one can find good coffee for less in the same area.Listed in: Yonge & Eglinton, Coffee, Tea & Juice

I will have to give this place another chance.
Apparently this place is the competition for Starbucks and so far I am dedicated to Starbucks.
I will agree the staff are friendly here - when I walked in the owner came right up to the counter to help me while I gazed over the menu.
I think there is only one board for his drink selection. It's a little confusing with the sizes of drinks.
I ordered the Chai Latte ($3.50) which came in a decent size cup. I don't think I had an option on which size I wanted even though next to the till there are 3 different cups.
Only certain drinks have that choice - like a drip coffee perhaps.
He offered me a ceramic mug but I wasn't staying.
The Chai latte was more on the sweet side which I'm not used to.
I like Starbucks version better because it's more on the spice side with the cinnamon. I will have to come back and try their lattes.
I sat down for 10 min just to get get off my feet for a few minutes. Another customer came in and asked what he would call "skim milk with espresso", saying that Starbucks called it a "Misto".
The owner then started saying Starbucks makes up words where as he doesn't and he "calls it what it is - espresso with steamed milk".. I found the tone of his voice a little cocky and made me think he thinks he's better than everyone else. Of course you're going to promote your business and say you're the best but I just don't like over confident people who sneer at others.
I have to say as well Starbucks has a better layout if you're going to stay there for awhile to read your book and play on your computer.
NO WIFI to start, and it's just tables and chairs. Whereas Starbucks has those nice comfy plushy couches if you're lucky enough to grab one.
SO in all I shall return for a latte just to test that out but I think my heart still belongs to Starbucks - Sorry Bulldog, -

Delicious coffee in the Yonge and Eglinton area, finally! (Aroma, you were not cutting it.) The size of this location is definitely an improvement on the downtown one, great to see space for a larger food display case, seating & counter space for sugar/cream etc too.
The look they've gone for is a nice bright & clean one, very sharp decor and classy furnishings. The gleaming bright espresso machine is definitely a feature of the coffee prep space too! Large glass cylinders of coffee beans adorn one wall, and there are some lovely shelving and display areas that are glassy and bright, really highlighting the look of this new cafe. There's a small patio-ish area out front, but no seats (yet?).
I'm personally happy to see that they've chosen to use paper cups up here, because as much as I love Bulldog's coffee I'm not a fan of the styrofoam cups they use elsewhere.
The product is the same gorgeous coffee, obviously - and owner Stuart is on hand up here to make sure everything's going smoothly with new staff. Summertime means a great menu of iced drinks in addition to the regular hot options of cappuccinos, lattes, espresso, hot chocolate and their signature 'Bulldog'. Prices are a little more ($1-1.50ish) than other chains in the area and it's damn well worth it. There's also loads of freshly baked treats on offer if you're into indulging.
In short - gorgeous cafe, gorgeous coffee, and I hope this location of Bulldog thrives!Listed in: Caffeine Nation: The Toronto…, Five Stars!

I came here to work on an essay. But I am so captivated that I am putting my academic future on hold to rave about this café.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Bull Dog. Nothing. I looked, I squinted, I stared - this place is perfect.
My cappuccino was flavourful, aromatic, carefully crafted. The latte art was a bonus.
Food wise, I tried the original chocolate square. It's hard to woo my taste buds with desserts. But this nailed it. Perfect blend of sweet and savoury.
The baristas were warm welcoming. I felt like I had come home to my favourite coffee shop.
Even the décor, which doesn't fit into what I expect from coffee shops (I like 'em cute quaint and jammed with bohemian art) fits. It's modern, chique, designed along clean lines.
Only downfalls:
-no wifi
-cash only
But those downfalls are not downfalls once you've enjoyed a mug of these beans.Listed in: For the Kind at Heart, I Dream in Coffee

If anyone has ever been to the bulldog cafe by Ryerson, you and I both know that the owner seems way happier here. While most places in this area may think this place is expensive, need to understand that this is a local business who make the best coffee at the busiest pedestrian corner in Toronto.
Three dollars for a double shot americano(the medium) is a pretty good deal in my books. their treats seem great when they are stocked and the barista's are extremely friendly. This is my new go to spot on the way to work. -

In the midst of the desert of shittiness that is the Yonge + Eglinton area, Bulldog is a glorious oasis of not-bad. The coffee is good. Not amazing, but good. Obviously, much better than the other options nearby.
They have an adequate selection of baked goods, and the space is fairly unobjectionable. Elsewhere in the city, Bulldog would be nothing special; but at this location it's a Godsend.
Prices are in line with other independent coffee shops. The staff are a bit over-friendly (I prefer my servers surly). Cash only for now, but I assume they will get technology in the future. -

Review from Tina H.
Great coffee. Lattes are a bit expensive ($5.50 if you get a flavour shot) but they're a double shot of espresso.
The chocolate chip cookies are unfortunately quite disgusting. I sampled a chocolate square and that was better and I wish I had got that instead. They bake most goods but not the chocolate chip cookie. Maybe they should bake their own or find a better supplier.. It's just not up to par with their coffee!
Service ranges from friendly for the most part to super duper I love being here friendly, which is awesome. I like seeing smiling faces, it brightens my day! :)
Their specials menu is a bit confusing as not all options have espresso but everything that I've tried iced is quite tasty.
It's a shame the chocolate chip cookie is terrible because their coffee is so good. Every good coffee shop needs a good chocolate chip cookie. Overall great spot for iced espresso drinks. When it cools down I'll try one of their hot drinks. Great spot and a welcomed addition to a 'hood in dire need of good coffee! -

I'm glad there are finally some coffee options around Yonge and Eg! I went in recently expecting nothing, but came out very pleased at the quality of the espresso and the friendly staff. They're pretty busy in the mornings but the staff is efficient and very helpful. This place was above my expectations and when I'm working in that area I will go back.

Amazing coffee! I was ecstatic when Bulldog opened a location at Yonge/Eglinton. It's a little East on Eglinton from Yonge, so I'm really hoping people notice it and that it does well! You have to pass one of the zillion Starbucks to get to it and it's worth going the extra block.
Their baked goods are some of the best found in coffee shops. The owner is hilarious and a total coffee elitist (coffee art to boot), which makes the whole visit that much more entertaining. Getting coffee from him is like visiting a winery! It's also nice to support a local small business instead of the dozen or so Starbucks in the neighbourhood. I really hope people give this place a chance. One visit and you'll be back.
My only complaint is the limited hours.
