Short of winning a golden ticket to Willy Wonka's factory, you might consider Bulk Barn an awesome consolation prize to satisfy your sweet tooth. If it is a gummy candy you want, you can probably find it there.
Add a vast assortment of bulk cereals, spices, beverages, baking ingredients, nuts, rices and pastas and your pantry can be chock full at very reasonable prices, and in the exact quantities that you require.
If you like to decorate baked goods, their selection of decorating materials is swoon- worthy. You can even rent fancy cake pans for a nominal fee to practice your "Ace of Cakes" designs at home.
And does Bulk Barn only hire people with Rain Man-like abilities to recall numbers? I came to the register with about 20 different bags and the sales clerk cranked through them flawlessly without any type of consultation. As someone who can't even remember a phone number for about 5 seconds, I bow before you Bulk Barn sales clerk!
Please open a franchise in Vancouver. Now. -

Ever heard of or been to a Bulk Barn? If not you are in for an amazing treat. It is a bakers/snackers paradise. Every type of nut, candy, flour, spice and dry supply you could ever imagine in bulk form. It is well worth the journey to the NE. They run weekly specials that you can find online - as well as coupons.
In addition to everything you can think of the also have amazing bread machine mixes and loose tea leaves. Also is a great selection of organic items and vitamins.
Try the chili lime soy sticks - they are totally addictive! -

Okay woah. Want to know where bulk heaven is? It's on 32nd Avenue in the NE!!! Bulk barn shares a large parking lot in a strip mall area so you are sure to find a spot.
If you need typical baking supplies, spices, candy, chocolate, peanuts, raisins, cranberries, rice, cereal, instant stuff (mash potatoes), chips, did I mention candy or typical baking supplies?? Okay..okay you get the idea...pretty much anything, Bulk Barn is the place to be!! They've packed a small place with loads of supplies!! It's bulk heaven!
I recently visited Bulk Barn for some baking needs..I wanted to make some chocolate molds so I needed chocolate wafers! They have many different colors and different brands of chocolate! They're the good brand too!! They also have pans, molds, lollipop sticks...a ton!! I grabbed an assortment of wafers and chocolates, some raisins, and I had to get some candy cokes too. There were some chocolate covered almonds on sale and I couldn't resist.... I did noticed there were gluten free items as well as organic.
It's fun to walk around and look at all the different items, you just don't know where to start!!! I, of course spent more than I thought I was going to.. you just want everything.
I highly recommend Bulk Barn, you just have to see for yourself!! Plus, its the only one in Calgary thus far! I will be back very soon. -

I have been hearing about Bulk Barn for years from people who moved to Calgary from the eastern provinces. Today I got to see it for myself. Bulk Barn recently opened a store in the Northeast. I was surprised to see how little it was when I pulled up but they packed a TON of products in a very small space.
As with most bulk buy places, it pays to know what you normally spend for things per 100g or per pound. That way you can tell what is a good deal and what isn't. Look for flyers in the paper as there are often specials and coupons that make it an even better deal.
What can you find at bulk barn? Bulk candy as far as the eye can see, snack mixes, trail mix, chips, baking supplies (chocolate coating discs, choc chips, flour, etc), nuts, dried fruit, soup mixes, baking mixes and an exhaustive array of spices. I will definitely be hitting this place up before any big baking adventure or my next big party (Bits 'n Bites were $3.49 per pound!). -

Who even knew you could buy this much bulk food?? They have a whole aisle of chocolate & candy, if that's your thing (and really, let's be honest... who doesn't love some candy?). Also about 100 kinds of spices; a wide variety of teas; more types of flour than I knew existed; lots of dried fruit - kiwi, strawberries, apples, etc; a number of different baking add-ins (cinnamon chips, coloured sugars, etc.); and so much more, all in only-buy-what-you-need plastic bins.
Bulk Barn also rents a variety of cake pan shapes for a couple dollars a day, allowing you to make a Princess Jasmine cake without having to keep the pan. They also import British and Australian candy and chocolate bars that are tough to find elsewhere.
My only complaint is that the staff are a bit... well, not 100% helpful. Not rude or mean, exactly, but every time I'm there I just feel a little bit like I'm bugging them.
For the number and variety of products, though, definitely one of my favourite grocery stores!
