The restaurant itself looks unassuming (kind of a hole in the wall) but the food is great! The service is great and the prices are good, what more can you ask for?
My favorites at The Bul-go-gi House are the glass noodles and the spicy pork chops, YUM! -

It's not my fave Korean restaurant in town, but it's okay. I like it, but I don't love it.
I think their general Korean fare is pretty decent, but not for the prices they offer -- for example, for equivalent price, Bi-Bim-Baab further south has a MUCH much nicer interior, and more fanciful presentation of dishes, while Bul Go Gi House is a lot more stripped down. Which, as you should know based on my reviews, I don't mind at all (my fave places can be dives), but then the taste should blow me away.
I think if you are here, you have to go for the BBQ, and order the kalbi and the bul go gi, the restaurant namesake. I wasn't impressed with their fish stew as, ironically, it tasted too fishy to me.
And despite being into "authentic" Asian food, I have to say my FAVE in the entire restaurant is their unearthly red, deep fried and battered, spicy and sweet chicken! I don't know what it's called on the menu, but the description is there. It's my husband's fave, too, and he will hoard it all to himself.
Bul Go Gi House is an institution in Edmonton, as I believe it's one of the oldest Korean restaurants in town, but for equivalent price, I would head over to Bi Bim Baab. -

I've been going to Bul Go Gi ever since I've been a little girl. The restaurant itself is located in a small strip mall and occupies the southern corner. It's the type of restaurant you'd only head into on recommendations of a friend as it looks rather dingy from the outside. It ha a rather unimpressionable interior design, vaguely reminiscent of some '60s shack. It even has a couple paintings of fields and the Rockies (random!). The service however is quick and efficient.
The menu has a lot of offerings although it seems that the chefs have been making the dishes a bit more bland and "safe" over the years. I remember the Mountain Vegetable dish having some kick and flavor - now it seems rather watery and tasteless. The same goes for some of the beef dishes. I'm not sure if they have revisited some of their recipes or if they have been gradually reducing the spices and flavorings of the dishes to (hopefully) cater to a greater clientele. Perhaps it's all a figment of my imagination as well...
I still eat Bul Go Gi although lately I've been ordering their take-out. My favorite is definitely the deep-fried wontons with honey dip! -

I absolutely LOVE bulgogi house! We always go there for birthdays and special occasions. It may look like a hole In the wall but they have GREAT service! I love that as soon as you sit down at the table they bring you a pitcher of ice water, bean sprout salad, Kim Chee and rice. The customer service is great and the food is great as well. The decor is lacking and if you have a baby that needs a diaper changing, it is nearly impossible to do in their tiny bathroom but otherwise it's amazing!

Boring and bland is pretty much what summed up my meal. The only thing that really saved the day were the short ribs that we ordered. But at a whopping price of $18 I'd rather just make them at home ! The ribs do have a very nice barbeque flavor in them though and are tender to the max. Most of the dishes we ordered were meat so we figured we should order some veggies.. bad idea.. we got the tofu and veggie chow mein... so bland.. I think they just used chicken stock as the sauce.. watered down chicken stock..

Welllllllll. People should come here for the food and the friendly wait staff, and ....yeah, just those things.
I understand that people are nostalgic for this place and the food is definitely one of the main reasons to go to a place. I am, though extremely disappointed in the decor and antiquated look and feel of the place. It is not that I question the cleanliness, but the dinginess, peeling varnish, old tables, chairs etc do not match the pricing of this place. I love ther food, but am not impressed by the least effort atmosphere of the place....optimize you potential.

I've been going to the Bul Go Gi House my entire life. It's been open for over 30 years, and a staple of delicious Korean Food in Edmonton.
There are a few things that always stay the same at the Bul Go Gi House. The quality of food is always the same (delicious), the prices are always reasonable, and the service is always friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are always tiny and out-of-date, which is part of the charm. The decor is beautiful and casual, and hasn't changed much in all the time I've been coming there.
The menu is full of variety, from rices, to meats, to hot pots. I would absolutely recommend the Bul Go Gi, the meat is delicious and tender. It's a great menu to select new things from and try a bunch of dishes with a group of friends. This is the type of restaurant where you order a whole lot of the menu, split it amongst yourselves family style, and pay a reasonable rate for it. (And have some take out leftover!)
Every meal comes with steamed rice, bean sprout salad (so good!), and kim chi. I recommend trying it all!
For those who aren't used to eating with chopsticks, or who haven't mastered the rice on chopsticks combo, they also bring forks to the table. (So no worries!)
This restaurant is one of my favourites in Edmonton. It's consistently good, with fantastic service, and amazing food.Listed in: Best in Edmonton

Went here on Saturday night and had a great time! There were eight of us and we just dropped in without reservations, yet they were happy to take us and provided great service!
The restaurant is a unpretentious little place: It's merely a doorway from outside, but is a tiny, clean space reminiscent of a independent family restaurant or dining room from the 1990's or so. It's incredibly relaxing and the tables are well spread out and the music low so you can enjoy a good conversation with your dining companions.
I tried out the Bul Go Gi at a recommendation of a friend (beef with vegetables) and it was DELICIOUS. The veggies still had a bit of bite, the beef melted on the tongue, the flavours were wonderful, and there was plenty of fluffy rice, kimchi and bean sprouts on the side to compliment the meal. In fact, there was so much of everything, I managed another full meal out of my left overs!
My friends tried the ribs, one of the hot pots, and a vegetarian dish and everyone said their food was amazing.
The great part was the bill: I got two full dinners for only $12! This is definitely somewhere I will head back to! -

First off the obvious was the outdated decor, I understand that this place has been here for years and years but that's no excuse for not renovating and redecorating. I've had Korean food in many cities before and was surprised that when the banchan otherwise known as side dishes came out there was the bean sprouts and Kim chi staple, I was waiting for the rest. To my surprise that was all the offered not traditional Korean at all. There was no roasted rice tea served instead two cups of cold tap water. The hubby had the Kalbi Dinner which to me was over priced 4 pieces of ribs on a plate for nearly 20 dollars. My soondubu chiggae was bland and not the greatest. All in all another disappointing restaurant experience to add to this city I call home now..*thumbs down*

Great Tasty Food, Nice people! Cheap prices for freshly prepared asian meals! Wish they accepted AMEX though since my employer issues only that for expenses. Do take all other credit cards though. Small "hole in the wall" don't let that fool you, give them a try you won't be disappointed.

One of my favorite restaurants. Fairly casual and comfortable, and great food. My personal favorites are the deep fried vegetables, and the BBQ chicken. The bul go gi is of course very good as well.
When I first went, it looked almost shady and I was a bit concerned, but don't let that deter you - the food is excellent and you'll have a great time.
One thing though, as another reviewer pointed out, anything you wear will come out reeking of the place. I once made the mistake of wearing my only winter jacket there, and the next day I had more than a few people wondering where that weird smell was coming from! -

What the Bul Go Gi House lacks in atmosphere, and it's a-lot! It more than makes up for in food quality and taste. Don't rule this one out when you drive by, give it a try you'll be glad you did.

This is a "diamond in the ruff" place for me. The outside of the building is old, looks like something you would find in old age England. Then you walk into this place where the smells of food fill your senses and stomach starts to groan for KOREAN BBQ! The sweet scent of the bbq with the smokiness of the grill. Now the inside of the restaurant is kind narrow and hard to move around.
Forewarning: when you leave the place, you will smell like the food so change your clothes after if you are going out later in the day.
So I ask myself..."self what is it you feel like to day?" I always go for the for the Bul Go Gi (bbq beef). Oh man...a lil rice on the side with some kimchi. Heaven I tell you, heaven. Also the the bean sprouts that is marinated with green onions.
There are other great choices on the menu if you feel like chicken or pork and also some exquisite dishes that I have yet to try.You don't need to wear a suite and tie for this place. Come in jeans, relax and have some KOREAN BBQ!
If you are familiar with the Edmonton area its in and around the Bonnie Doon Area. it can be quite tricky to find this place. -

Sooo good, we ordered three things, the beef bulgogi which was very flavorful, and deep fried rice noodles were something I've never tried before and they were really good. And the mountain rice which was also really fresh and tasty! I want to go back to try new things! Lots of great service, very friendly. And it was under 40 dollars.

I was a bit disappointed. Service and prices were ok, the food was decent, just pretty bland and unexciting. We had the beef bulgogi and the be-bim-bap, which are the staples of Korean cuisine, but both were pretty unimpressive. It was kinda like school canteen food. Decor is very dated, which might seem cool if the food were great, but its not...

This Korean restaurant is pure gold, both food and service-wise. After dining here a week ago, I cannot wait to go back and try more skilfully prepared meals! During my visit, I have ordered marinated chicken grilled with mushrooms and vegetables, and a serving of rice. Let me assure you that even though the order sounded plain and simple, it was anything but. The huge plate of sizzling stir-fry that was put on the table in front of me was magnificent! Chicken strips were juicy, aromatic and tender; vegetables were crispy and mushrooms were in abundance. Airy rice was just the right addition to the meal. I should have mentioned that every meal at Bul Go Gi comes with complimentary side dishes which are: kimchi that exudes just the right amount of spiciness and bean sprouts lightly marinated in sesame oil. Delish! Paired with sizzling chicken and vegetables, these light side dishes were pure perfection.
My dining companion ordered pork chops marinated in sauce the name of which had slipped my mind. I snuck a taste, and these may easily have been the tastiest pork chops I have ever tasted!
Basically, when you come to Bul Go Gi, expect mind blowing food. All ingredients are fresh and all meals are prepared with love.
Another thing you can expect when you visit this restaurant is fantastic customer service. Our waiter was friendly and attentive.
My guess is that Bul Go Gi is a family-run restaurant. People who work here strive to provide their customers with the ultimate dining experience while still managing to keep atmosphere at the restaurant cozy, comfortable and unpretentious. -

My coworkers and I went there for lunch on a recommendation we should try this place out. I am not one for Asian food all that much although I've gone out for Chinese food a little too much lately.
So my coworker said "trust me on the #3 special." So we all ordered the same thing which consisted of beef ribs, chicken breast, pork wontons and steamed veggies and rice. Before that was the barley soup, sprouts and kimchi. It was just enough food to satisfy the appetite and for a reasonable price. The only issue was the kimchi wasn't spicy enough but 100% I would go back again.
Next time we all go, I will ask for the hotpots and have a shot of soju. ;) -

I've eaten Korean food in KTown NY, KTown LA, Calgary, Vancouver, Hong Kong, and other places in the NE, and this is the best Korean food I have ever had. Without exception.
Make sure you get the Bee Bam Bap and the Grilled Marinated chicken.
I've seen away sports teams eating there which tells me that this place is a hidden gem. -
