I'll second Nicole G's review and also profess my love for this local Kits establishment. 1/2 lb prices are reasonable given the high-quality coffee (less than $10) - just make sure you transfer it to an airtight container when you get home. You'll even get a stamp card for repeat visits.
It's funny that one of the other reviewers commented on the beans being over-roasted and dark / bitter. If anything, I would contend that the dark roasted beans aren't strong enough for my taste when prepared in a regular drip coffeemaker or French Press. Perhaps, being from Seattle, I'm just used to drinking Charbucks.
Why buy bags of Kicking Horse or JJBean at the grocery store when freshly roasted beans are this readily available. Support local businesses!!
I'm partial to the Colombian and Mexican beans. The beans really come alive when you use an espresso maker / stove-top moka pot. This is my recommended brewing technique. -

Screeeech! Nope nope nope. Something's amiss. The train has derailed. The last few roasts were not up to par.
That ain't a medium roast. That's dark in my books. It's oily, bitter blech.
I feel for small roasters like this one. We are so horribly mis-educated about coffee in Vancouver that most people would find the taste of a good and properly roasted bean strange.
It's not the owners fault. Someone who is used to coffee from one of the big chains would be turned off by a light or medium roast with it's complexity, clean consistency and acidic taste. See? I still found a way to blame Starbucks!
I understand the need to keep customers happy. But sometimes the customer is, well, wrong. Perpetuating that ubiquitous burnt taste is not advancing the cause of re-educating people on what good coffee is supposed to taste like. I understand that it's like swimming upstream for a small business and that's why I'm only dropping him down to three stars.
He understands coffee, but he still needs to make a living.Listed in: Coffee. The Good, The Brewed &…

OMG best homemade coffee i've ever tried ( also helps that my brother knows how to make a good espresso)! I went to Buen Cafe the next day and bought a couple of different coffees to try. Can't wait till the morning! And the man who is selling coffee is so sweet. Plus, great price for organic and fair trade coffee.

Fabulous coffee beans and nice friendly service. I have accompanied my parents multiple time to purchase their weekly supply of coffee and the staff always take time to chat with them about their choices and whatever else takes their fancy. Very tasty and well priced.

Best coffee beans I've found in Vancouver.
I sniffed some medium roast Guatamala beans and was so happy I nearly tipped over onto the floor and when I brewed at home it did not disappoint.
Perfect service. I got some coffee to sample and he will answer any of your questions and greet you by name.Listed in: give me all the caffeine

Love this place! I use to buy espresso from Cafe Artigiano, but not any more. So glad we tried this place, we're hooked. Deliciously flavored, organic espresso and decaf espresso beans, unique shop and will sell by the 1/2 LB.

By far the best coffee beans in Vancouver!
The owner roasts the beans himself daily in a small roaster in the back of the store so whatever you buy is extremely fresh. The beans are all organically grown fair trade beans .
Try the espresso blend. It's a mix of four different varieties. Excellent!
Also the owner is friendly & knowledgeable about coffee . He is happy to explain anything you may want to know. -

I love love LOVE this place! I am so grateful to live practically across the street from this place, because it means the absolute freshest beans, all the time. The first time we came here, the owner invited us in the back to see the roasting machines and how everything was prepared, and gives free samples of whatever he's brewing when we want to try something new. He really knows his stuff, and has a million tips on how to make the best coffee. He's really proud of his Espresso Blend, but I personally like a mix of Colombian and Sumatra myself. =) Either way, you will get the best and freshest beans in town here!

After running out of coffee beans, my girlfriend talks to me about a new coffee place that just opened around the corner. Let's try it.
Buen Café is a little place, very cute and very simple. You can't miss that distinct smell of coffee beans as soon as you get through the door.
There is some coffee and tea making accessories in the front part of the store, you can buy some jewellery and there is still the Mexico-Arte part in the back.
So we make our choices helped by this very nice man, we like our coffee mild and full of flavour; a half pound of "Costa Rica" and a half pound of "Colombian Supremo" beans, no need to grind them, we have our grinder.
So how does the French coffee maker Bodum work we ask. The store owner asked us if we have 2 minutes and he would show us, yes we do have 2 minutes. From step 1 to step 3 which was serving, it's very easy and i do think now that it's a must to have. That simple uh? No sugar, thanks. After tasting from the cup we were kindly given, i think now it's a must to have. So, how does the Italian stove top espresso works?
This very nice man took the time to explain to us many things that we did not know, or did not take the time to read on the walls of the store... For example: All beans are fair trade and organic. They are roasted there on a daily basis unlike other stores where you have them sitting on the shelves for weeks... Get your stamp, get 1lb of Coffee for free after buying 9 lb.
I think I just rediscovered coffee.
