Bud's is a local favourite and being so close to the St. Lawrence River helps in that regard.  I can picture nothing better than sitting in on the patio, soaking in some sun and enjoying the warmth with a pint or two.  That didn't happen when I went to Bud's (sat inside and had brunch) but nonetheless, it lived up to expectation.

The staff are young and friendly and more than compensate for the fact that you will be waiting for the offerings from the menu.  The kitchen is small and their menu plainly states in not so many words, if you're looking for a quick bite, this is probably not your place.  Their well-appointed bar may serve as a good indication that they want you to get comfy.  The atmosphere is casual and I'd like to try it for dinner when I'm next there.

As for the brunch, the menu is large and has various options for those seeking standard fare, those with bigger appetites, and the more health-conscious among your party.  For my breakfast, it's hard to screw up sunny-side eggs and sausage, and they didn't.  If you fancy marble rye, you could do worse than to elect that as your toast option.  Another thing to try is see how many cups of coffee you can drink before they threaten to cut you off.  My record is seven.  Beat it.

Update: John apologized for our bad experience...we will gladly try it again this summer!

"Bad on the Bay". This place is going down hill unfortunately. We've had a number of bad experiences here and that is a real shame because a few years ago I would have given it at least 4 stars for food and service.

Last time we were there after coming from another bar up the road there was a teenage-looking bargirl who was flirting with three junior-high clowns at the narrow side of the bar. She eventually noticed us and took our order. We had a long day on the river and were rather tired - she mistook that for us being intoxicated and refused to serve us at first. That's NEVER happened before! Looking closely at her side of the bar, we could see a full glass of white wine she was drinking while working. We summoned the dorky manager to explain the situation who seemed rather unfazed by it all. Unbelievable yet again.

Two weeks later we went to watch a game (big screens) and discovered they wanted to charge $7 to serve us FOOD at the bar! What???? It's ridiculous as the kitchen entrance is right next to the bar.
That did it. Never again. It's a real shame because the food was quite good. Embarrassing and ripping off patrons however is quite bad.
I'd rather BBQ myself than spend another dollar in this wreck.
