Review from Jennifer G.
The Buccaneer is very clean and sweet, with flowers on the balconies and a view of a forested island across the way. It was slightly more expensive than we expected from other Yelp reviews ($109 in September). We had a nicely appointed little suite, very clean, with a box full of books and toys that our 5-year old enjoyed. When you have a kid, it's nice to have two rooms so you can talk or watch TV after they go to bed. It was also good to see that the bedroom was set back away from the street, so not so noisy. I also liked the book-swapping shelf in the office. I swapped an old Joe Leaphorn mystery I'd read three times for a book about a woman traveling in th Yukon in the 1920s. Good deal.

Things I liked about the Buccaneer:
- small, family-run business
- suite for the price of a room
- window boxes full of flowers all along the railings
- free Internet access
- extremely reasonably priced in-room snacks
- free T-Hos coffee
Things I liked not so much:
- getting a funny look from the host when I asked upon check-in if there were going to be children in the room next to me - we were in town for a wedding, and the bride had just informed me that some relatives with about five (noisy, her word) kids staying there as well.
- on the second night, having two rooms on either side occupied by a group that was apparently together. All night, all the next morning, stomp, stomp, stomp, back and forth past my room. Thank god for earplugs and that separate bedroom in the rear (with a nice bed and ceiling fan for coolness).
- constant ferry traffic and thrumming from the boatyard across the way
(Yeah, I got noise issues ... is wanting quiet in a home-away-from-home such a bad thing?)
And this just mystified me:
- no housekeeping service on the only full day we stayed. Granted, somebody slept the entire morning away, but I made sure to put out the "Please make up the room" doorhanger the second we went out. But nothing. No refresh on the snacks, no new packet of coffee, no straightening of the linens? I felt a little robbed.
Perhaps my expectations were too high. Expectations are death.Listed in: Participation Ribbons: The…

Vancouver, BC
Spotless and homey, cleanest motel I've ever seen! Front desk staff were great, you can tell it's family run and they take great pride in their place. A bargain at $59 for the cozy suite, perfect for a night or two, great experience!!

A beautiful, quaint, family owned Inn right in Nanaimo. You wake up to a beautiful view of the harbour and incredible, green forests with a smokey fog. The views here are breathtaking. I really enjoyed waking up and sipping coffee and looking out at the serene beauty before getting geared up to go scuba diving.
Its only $90 per night for a nice sized room with two beds and a kitchenette. They provide free tea and coffee in the rooms and have a decently priced little snack bar. I will definately stay here when I take my next dive trip to Vancouver Is.
