Review from Aud D.
Bubble World seems like a busy restaurant among young adults especially during dinner hours. The atmosphere tends to not be so comforting when the restaurant is busy, but the service makes up for it.
Normally when I visit restaurants like these I don't find myself ordering anything really special but as I looked through the menu, the Assorted Stir Fry Pork Intestines with Pork Blood Chef's Special caught my eye. I've had this dish in several other restaurants in Los Angeles but when I tried this dish at Bubble World, I was appalled at how the pork blood was cooked to my liking. The deep fried chicken wings were delicious as well but were typical, what could go wrong with that? Unfortunately, I did not have a chance to try the boba drinks or other tasty sounding dishes that would fit within my budget. Maybe next time when I take a long trip to BC, I'll visit this place again if it's still in business. -

Being from Southern California I had to see what boba is like up here. That's right I said boba, you guys call it bubble tea or whatever. Already it was like an awkward experience, but I shrugged it off pushed on and ordered what I would normally get back home.
I personally got almond with pudding, my cousins got a mango slush and a standard milk tea with half milk, tapioca, and two other add ons that I can't remember.
My drink wasn't necessarily bad, it was just different. The almond tastes more like the almond jelly that asian people eat that looks like pudding. The stuff that is usually eaten with fruit cocktail. So the sweetness of the drink was different from what I was expecting. Instead of something that is like a normal milk tea with possibly syrup flavoring, this tasted like something that was made from a powder. Not my cup of tea if you know what I'm saying.
The mango wasn't bad either, just tasted like a different type of mango then I'm used to in my drinks. Sorta like the difference between a tommy atkins and a ataulfo.
The milk tea though was something I didn't like. They liked it more bitter and less sweet. Which I found odd cause what kind of little kid doesn't like sugar?
Foodwise I honestly can't remember all that I ate. I believe there was wonton soup, takoyaki, this thing that reminded me of egg roll with beef in it? And a couple other things I can't remember.
Wontons were not good at all, felt that some frozen ones that I've had before were better and broth was pretty whatevs.
Takoyaki could have been better, or at least the sauce.
The eggroll thingie my auntie was raving about disappointed.
And all the other food didn't really stand out.
I also thought the prices weren't that great compared to back home in the states. Not because of the exchange rate, but basically all the food I had up here literally costed more straight up. -

If you're looking for a place for cheap food and good bubble tea, bubble world is your place. They've got a good selection of foods that will fill you up for a good price and plenty of drinks to choose from. The drink portions here are huge, good enough to be shared by 2 is what I think!
The service is a hit and miss for me. There are some days where you get the good waitresses and other days you get the crappy ones. The food is fast though so you'll forget all about the poor service you get from time to time.
This place is great when you're looking for a place to hangout late at night in Surrey. One of the few joints in Surrey that is open reasonably late other than Timmy's. -

I had no idea Bubble World had a location in Surrey - then again, I think anything beyond SFU as a vast wasteland afflicted by only mega-chains serving up burgers and pasta.
Anyways - this location is pretty busy - not as busy as the Kingsway location, but I guess sufficiently busy considering the lack of bubble tea options in the area. It's pretty similar to the Kingsway location - the servers are pretty aloof and it's about ~$5 for a beerstein-size glass of bubble tea. This is nice as I tend to slam down drinks (I have yet to master the concept of 'sipping') and I usually end up finishing my drink before everyone else at other bubble tea joints. The drinks at Bubble World are large enough so they don't even have to offer a size upgrade option. And honestly, everything tastes better coming out of a frosty beerstein.
Anyways - I normally skip the menu and just default to a coffee & milk tea [yeng yeerng] or black sesame as the Kingsways Bubble World makes pretty solid ones. However, I found a drink on the menu that sounded so retardly stupid that it had to work: Taro & Oreo Milk Tea. A wee bit on the sweet side (should have ask that they held back on the syrup) - but having small Oreo chunks in my taro milk tea was surprisingly good. And they custom made my friend's favourite that was no longer on the menu: blueberry chocolate smoothie.
Just for the location and the inventive flavour pairings - A-OK in my book. -

I've been here twice!! I'm almost indifferent. I wish they had some desserts to compliment all the other food on the menu. And they don't have vanilla milk tea..
I had hot (warm) coconut milky tea tonight and SHRIMP DUMPLINGS (apparently NEW as per indicated on the menu). drooldrooldrool. I was already full from dinner somewhere else, but shrimp dumplings at a non dim sum time..friggin awesome. Too bad it was $5 for 3 pieces...who am I kidding ..I'd probably order it again!! Wow..the shrimp dumplings were good...it took them like 15 mins + to get it to the table though (I;m more just saying than complaining).
The coconut milky tea was super delish too. Last time I got something hazel-nutty and pudding..I dunno. As per a friend's choice (don't listen to friends-listen to instincts lol).
Well I usually get taro when I go for BBT...so what can I say..I'm not very adventurous. I prefer stable and delicious.
I also prefer quiet dim places. This place is the opposite.
They need to fix the "MOCHA LATTE" typo on the menu which is supposed to read "MATCHA" and also..it should just be taken off altogether because apparently they don't sell it anymore (?!?!?)
Be prepared to remind or ask waitresses for things such as plates and napkins. -

It's Guildford's other bubble tea spot that also offers full meals. I'll split this into two, one for the bubble tea, the other for the food.
FOOD
No. To sum it up, that's how I feel about the food here. I've given Bubble World more than a few chances to redeem itself on the food front, but everything I've ever ordered is either overly salty, overly greasy, or both. It's not even the deep-fried stuff I'm talking about, the rice and noodles leave an unsavory pool of oil on the plate that isn't appetizing at all.
BUBBLE TEA
On a much nicer note! I go to Bubble World for their selection of teas and milk teas. They've got a broad selection of flavoured milk teas plus a selection of loose teas that include rose and lavender and the like. However, if you plan on sitting in, you have to order your bubble tea in a glass. They won't let you sit in with a to-go cup. -

It might have been an extremely busy night I was there for but the pot stickers, soup, and entrees were all mediocre at best. On the plus side the service is friendly and the bubble tea is good, so drop by for a tapioca fix but maybe get it to go.

This place was the best around 2006 to 2008. They had a special that changed every now and then, where you can buy an entree and bubble tea for a lower price. At one point, the side dishes with rice included soup, but they stopped doing that. Now the food is not perfect but certainly not bad either. Sometimes the rice seems to have been microwaved and is rather hard, but usually the sauces make up for it. I recommend the Fried Fish w/ rice or noodle soup, spicy pork blood and intestine with rice (may sound disgusting to some people but tastes amazing). The potstickers, fried tofu, squid rings and takoyaki are appetizers that I recommend.
Since the recession the price of the food has increased substantially, and the portions have decreased. I remember when beef noodles were in a big bowl, but now they put it in a much smaller bowl. I recommend Beef noodle as it's my favourite dish but its quality can be variable. Originally the beef noodle had a "sweeter" taste due to the fat of the beef, and it relied on doban jan (a soybean paste) for flavour. Often I asked to make it spicy and they either gave me sriracha or they put VERY SPICY chilli powder in the soup. The beef was really fatty but sometimes it was stiff. At one point, around 2006, they even put beef tendon in which was amazing. Nowadays, "spicy beef noodle" is a separate and more expensive dish, and the flavour now relies on Ning Chi Spicy Hot Pot Sauce, and they now only have thin (like linguine) noodles. (they used to have really thick, Fettucine-like noodles) The soup, spicy or normal, is often really salty. Nowadays they use beef shank (with the veins inside) which tends to be much more tender. There are some times when some pieces still get tough though. Same goes for the new item "beef tendon with eggplant". One time the tendon is tender while the next time it is stiff. These inconsistencies are very disappointing.
As for drinks, I like to get slushies so I can slowly drink it. The bubble milk tea is great but it can become oversweetened, especially pudding, which uses the very orange powder, compared to other places which use a light yellow powder (I prefer the yellow one). For milk tea I would recommend strawberry (which is made from real strawberry syrup from a Canadian supplier and not some fake syrup or powder with plasticizer in the onset of the food scandal in Taiwan), green apple and pomegranate. I think the green and black teas are better though, as well as fruit tea which you can get hot (real fruits inside) or cold (I think it's either passion fruit or kumquat tea but with more "fruitiness"). I also recommend for slushies: pina colada, ice cream slush, strawberry mix, mixed berry slush, and kiwi slush. They don't have frog eggs - "lemon slush with pearls" but they have a "lemon jelly" juice drink. I wasn't particularly fond of it as it was sour and the jelly was meh.
Service is good most of the time, but there are some waitresses who are rather mean and impatient at times.
