To my knowledge, Seattle doesn't have a single HK style dessert cafe!  It was a difficult fact to accept, when SF has so many of them open until the wee hours of the morning.  I never really frequented them too often (not really my type of crowd), but you never know what you have until it's gone.

BF and I were running out of CAD and didn't want to get any more since we were returning home after dessert, so we decided on a $6 dessert to share.  It had mango, grass jelly, basil seed, and sago.  It was unexpectedly delicious!!  I loved it and wish I could've had it all to myself, and that we had a couple more Canadian dollars to order a second one.  However, it was really filling and I probably would not have been able to finish one on my own.

    I will definitely come back.

Sometimes after consuming too many cakes and cookies I feel that my taste buds requires me to touch base with my Eastern heritage with some Chinese desserts... Sadly there isn't an abundance of dessert places in Vancouver (even Richmond) that features traditional dessert soups, puddings, and dumplings... With the few that are available not everyone does it right...

Luckily, Bubble Fruity  came to the rescue... Situated on Saba Road, just off from Richmond Centre Bubble Fruity brings nostalgic childhood memories... The shop is brightly colored in green and orange. A simple hideout without a lot of fuss... This "mom and pop" shop has magazines, big screen TV, and  bubble tea available for you to gather...

Their dessert menu has quite a bit of variety. From your basic Coconut Sago Soup , Mango Sago Cream , to Almond  , Sesame Paste Soup ... to Dumplings with Wine ... The portions are hefty and soups are not watery (some places water it down to save a few bucks, but certainly doesn't keep loyal customers). Aside from sweets, there are also savory snacks - pork cutlet noodles, sandwiches, and thick toasts. Something for everyone! Even if you don't have a sweet tooth!

Fresh Mango, sago and grass jelly (extra mango)  +
Fresh Philippine mangoes are delightful and sweet. Sago cooked perfectly and paired intimately with grassjelly (aka Herbal Jelly ) FTW (for the win)! TIP: Always ask for extra mangoes... delish!

Black sticky rice with coconut milk
Black glutinous rice warms the heart and the coconut milk balances out an otherwise filling soup.

If you ever have a chance to come here , be sure to also try the Mango Sago Cream ! Wish I had taken a picture for you, but every time I come here, I simply devour it like no tomorrow! Opps =)

Came here for some Honger-style desserts.

Street parking here is free after 2100.  Just a tip.

This is a true mom and pop operation.  He serves, while she makes the desserts.

Even though I'm not a fan of Chinese-style desserts in general, the freshness of the ingredients cannot be disputed.  I had the mango sago cream dessert.  The mango puree was delicious.  And this is from a guy who doesn't like eating mangoes.  They mixed in a small amount of basil seeds, along with little tiny chunks of what I think was grapefruit.  It was definitely not what I had expected, and I mean this in a pleasant way.

On a side note, they won some HSBC "Best Dessert in Richmond" award recently.  It's hung on a frame behind the front counter.

If this type of dessert is your thing, be sure to check them out.

I have an extremely bad experience when I have my dessert in the shop.  I go there on a Satursday night, there still a few table available when I get in.  After half an hour, when we still taking our dessert and some clients came in.  Shop owner and 2 customers kept looking at our table and one of them even come to my table and starred at our bowl to see whether we finished everything.  After a minute, owner dragged the bill to our table & asked whether we are ready to go.  We still taking another bowl of dessert at that time.  I order , mango super sour, grapefruit super sour, milk is no taste (not sweet at all), a lot of ice... I won't go next time as it is too bad on everything !

Authentic HK desserts! I love this little mom and pop store with so many tasty HK desserts. It's owner operated by a friendly Chinese couple. They used to sell their desserts at the Richmond night market.

They serve a few snacks but I come here strictly for their wonderful desserts. The mango sago cream is one of their most popular desserts. The mango is fresh and flavourful but not overpowering. It has just enough sweetness. It's served with basil seeds on the top. That's one bowl of deliciousness! The green bean soup and black sesame paste also looked good.

One of the few authentic homemade HK desserts in Richmond. Highly recommended if you are craving for Asian desserts.

OMG I love this place. I've been here twice in the last week. I crave Chinese dessert and to know that this place makes everything from scratch is heaven for my crazy chinese sweet tooth.

A couple days ago, I came in for a hot sesame dessert soup, and today a hot walnut soup.

The sesame was soooo thick and consistent throughout. I took it on the skytrain all the way home and heated it up. It was heavenly.

Today I thought that my walnut soup was not as thick, but sure enough, it was made just right. Great consistency once again, with a beautiful sun tan colour. I tried to save half for tomorrow, but who was I kidding anyway.

I still have to recommend sticking to the desserts... because getting a fresh fruit juice from here is going to hurt the wallet. dessert soups are $4, while fresh mango bubble tea is $6 and you can get the same thing at Dragon Ballz for a few dollars cheaper.

This place is going to make me very fat. no joke.

I randomly stumbled upon Bubble Fruity during a recent trip to Vancouver. After having some of the most amazing black sesame paste, I knew I had to come back and try their other desserts. So on my last visit home, I came here two nights in a row to do exactly that!

Inside is pretty small with a few 4-person tables. The dessert menu (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) isn't huge but has the standard black sesame, walnut, almond, peanut, and cashew pastes; grass jelly, sago, black sticky rice dishes; red and green bean soup, tofu pudding, as well as a few other items--all for $4 each. (A great deal since their servings are HUGE!) They also serve bubble tea and snacks (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) such as noodle soups and sandwiches, all for a very reasonable price of $2.5 - $4.5.

I'm TOTALLY in love with their freshly ground pastes! You can tell, quite easily, that they grind their own black sesame/nuts and that none of them are made from mixes. They are all incredibly flavourful and taste EXACTLY like what they are made from (i.e. the cashew paste tastes like liquefied cashews). The consistency--thick & smooth--is always just right and they're not too sweet. Seriously, I can go on and on. My favourites are the BLACK SESAME PASTE (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), WALNUT PASTE (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), and CASHEW PASTE (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...). The ALMOND PASTE (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), basically a thicker version of Chinese almond tea, was great too but I liked the other just a tad more.

Another favourite was the BLACK STICKY RICE WITH COCONUT MILK (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...). They get the texture/consistency and flavours just right. The very thick sticky rice was chewy yet kinda crunchy from the rice kernels. (I love how they pop in my mouth!) It had wonderful nutty and chocolatey flavours and the coconut milk added a nice touch of creaminess.

The STICKY RICE BALLS (http://www.yelp.ca/biz..., http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) weren't quite as good but I appreciate that they make their own. The BLACK SESAME (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) and PEANUT (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) ones were decent but the fillings were a little sweet for me. I didn't like the DURIAN (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) rice balls at all because they were so bland. Not sure if the durian itself wasn't good or if cooking it killed the flavour--either way, they weren't good.

I also had two of their MANGO SAGO desserts. The first was the mango with sago, black barley (?), and grass jelly (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) and the second was mango sago with grapefruit (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...). Both were very refreshing and quite tasty but the latter had barely any mango or grapefruit.

Oh yeah, they also serve really good tea--fragrant with some floral notes. I liked it so much I even asked them where they get it from so I could make my own at home!
