When it comes to sports bars, this is pretty much as good as it gets for us Halagonians! 60+ HD screens playing up to 4 different feeds, great selection of wing sauces, cold beer and homemade burgers!!! What else could you ask for?!?
The staff gets into it, wearing their teams colors and hooting and holouring at their teams and for the true sports enthusiast, the walls are full of amazing sports memorabilia, something to keep you busy during intermissions.
If you're looking for a great place to go catch a game (soccer, hockey, rugby, footbal, baseball, the olympics, golf.... AND MORE) and a cold beer, this is the spot to be folks! -

A few weeks ago, my husband and I were on the hunt for some good wings. Reading the reviews for Bubba Ray's, we thoughts we'd give them a second try. we were not pleased the first time.
The place was not very busy that evening, though the service was not quite up to par. A bit slow plus a drink forgotten until we were about ready for the bill and, when she asked if I still wanted it, I declined. Of course, when the bill came the drink was still on it. It was eventually removed.
When the wings came, they were (I'm sure) cooked as required by food safety standards but soggy and could have used a bit longer in the fryer to crisp them and cook off the remaining fat.
The sauces we chose were the Jerk, Suicide, Citrus Wing Zinger. The Suicide was nothing to write home about, but the other two were quite enjoyable and helped to keep this from being a 1-Star review.
I did appreciate that the wash-room was clean and had a much loved excellerator hand dryer. There were plenty of TVs with sports programming and a few options to choose from.
I can see how some would like this sports bar for a few drinks with a group of friends while watching a game, but I don't think we will give them a third try. I've definitely had better. Seems as though it's impossible to find decent wings in this city.Listed in: Not Diet Recommendation…

A burger, stuffed with cheese, and bacon on top.
You'd think it couldn't get better than this, but it's a sports bar, so you're surrounded by dozens of tvs showing various sports events and by tonnes and tonnes of sports memorabilia.
I've only ever been here for lunch, but I can just imagine this place would come alive during the evening when there's a hockey game (or 3) being shown on their giant televisions.Listed in: Best Burgers

Sports bars and I don't come in contact with each other very often, so I'm not a frequent visitor to this spot. In fact, last night was my first visit since just after they opened. As far as sports bars go (and based on my limited experience with them), this place is pretty good. It's not dark, dingy and depressing like some others are. Decent service, lots of seating, a wealth of TVs and a multitude of beer and wings - I think they got the sports bar thing down pat.
The selection of wings is overwhelming. I didn't have wings last night but last time I remember having a hard time between wanting to be adventurous and wanting to make sure I got wings I'd enjoy. This is not a bad thing - just something to be aware of. Maybe peruse the menu online before you go so you're prepared.
They have an affordable selection of beer, both on tap and bottled. I would like to see more local selection. Also, my Rickards Red draught could have been a bit more chilled last night.
But you guys? They have deep fried dill pickles. DEEP FRIED DILL PICKLES! So bad, but soooo good.
It's a convenient spot to grab a pre-movie drink or bite. And with deep fried pickles on the menu, I'll be having another pre-movie visit real soon. Like tomorrow.Listed in: Beer O'Clock

I am a huge wing fan, they are one of my favorite foods. So when I moved to Halifax I had seen in the Coast that Bubba Rays's had been voted best wings several years in a row and was very excited to try them.
I went twice to make sure it was not just a bad experience the first time, but both times I left feeling they were some of the worst wings I have ever had. The wings themselves were small and the sauces were just not very tasty and rather skimpy. I have had far better wings from a box of frozen wings from the grocery store. The quest for a wing place in Halifax will continue.
That said the rest of my experience at Bubby Ray's was good. I had a burger there that was tasty and if you are looking for a sports bar it is certainly a good place to go and watch several games at the same time. -

It won't surprise many of you to know that I spend very little time in sports bars these days. It's not that I don't like them, or that I don't enjoy myself just fine once I'm there - it's just that I have strayed quite far from any and all paths that typically lead to sports bar situations. Nevertheless, when a need arises for a valiant, sports bar hero, it's usually Bubba Ray's that comes to the rescue.
This second-floor space directly on Spring Garden Road has obscene amounts of room, various seating options (tables, stools, bar, etc.), more TV screens than you can even try to watch at once, and a surprisingly decent menu that stretches beyond your standard sports bar fare. Of course, the wings are what's going to win over you and your friends, but the other options are a nice treat for those of us that skip over the meat.
Service is usually a notch or two above what you'd expect from a place like this and the girls aren't dressed in uniforms that'd make a 2005-era Britney Spears blush.
That last point can either be a negative or a positive. I'll let you decide. -

I saw a new review so thought I would write about my experience here! A few months back, a large group of friends gathered here for some wings and nachos. It was a busy night, but not playoff busy.
We sat down and got our drink orders in but then the waitress basically disappeared. A couple times she walked by and short of clapping my hands and yelling "Chop Chop Garcon!" her attention couldnt be caught. I finally asked my friends what they wanted, wrote it down on a piece of notebook paper from my purse and delivered our order to her. I am totally this kind of off-the-wall gal, so i just informed her that since she was so busy, I thought I'd help her do her job and that I didnt expect a cut of her tips. We all finally got our food quite some time later, and the nachos hadnt gone through the oven at all. Unmelted cheese? Not so great when you want ooey and/or gooey!
I very, very, very rarely dont tip but this was definitely one of those occasions.
I have been there before that and since, and have better success. The wing sauces are yummy and so are uteck bowls. MMm. So yes, I will return, but they are just a to the ok. -

I am surprised with these reviews, Bubba's is one of the best sports bars I ever been to!
They have MANY big screen TV's, excellent service, an amazing wing selection, giant team jugs of beer, what more could a man (or sports fan) ask for? I always sit at the square bar in to the left, flanked by 2 or 3 buddies, watching the game and devouring baskets of wings and jugs of beer. Heaven! -

Fine dining it ain't, but if you're looking for some decent pub food and generous portions, this is a great place to try. We stopped in here last night and had the chicken sandwich and the club house wrap (wrap of the day). The food was tasty, the fries were plentiful, and the service was a-ok. My one complaint would be that after we got our food, our server just kind of disappeared and didn't ever check in on us again, but other than that it was all we needed - a quick bite at a decent price.

I tend not to frequent sports bars since I'm not a fan of sports, beer or crowds of cheering people who spill beer on me, but I stopped in on a slow Friday night with my boyfriend thanks to a serious craving for wings.
Ten minutes later, I was practically having an anxiety attack over all the different decisions I needed to make so I could order them. It was worse than Starbucks! The selection is crazypants.
First you choose your style of wing - I went for a 1/2 mega-sized breaded ones. Then you choose how you want your sauce - I got mine tossed, because I think on the side is just plain crazy talk. Then you choose one of about sixty difference sauces for the wings. SIXTY! Or somewhere in the neighborhood of sixty. Seriously, guys? What's the difference between "suicide" and "death"? Is one better/worse?
Naturally, I went with the second choice on the list before my poor little indecisive brain exploded - Franks Chili & Lime. It was delicious. The boyfriend bought two 1/2 pounds, one in "Saute" and one in "Maple"...I tried the maple and thought it was weird and gross, but no surprise there.
The service was great and it was nice to see they carried my favorite beer substitute beverage, Strongbow Cider. Since the Peel Pub gave me food poisoning on two different occasions, I'd say Bubba Ray's is a major step up for this location. -

When our beloved Peel Pub was closing down, we cried over the loss of cheap wings and beer. That didn't last long, because Bubba Ray's moved in soon after. With their variety of wings and expansive list of sauces that range from the original Frank's Red Hot to the more exotic flavours of pineapple and curry, it's no wonder it's been voted the best wing spot in the city. It's hard not to find a favorite wing on their menu! And if you're in an adventurous mood, or have a thing for spice, sign a waiver and try the death wings: guaranteed to make you leak from every orifice.
They have a short menu of other foods that are hit or miss. They try to expand on the standard garden or ceasar salad options with a couple more green offerings. Their alfresco salad is basically canned and dried fruit mixed in with some romaine, with the accompanying vinaigrette being more raspberry jam and vinegar. Salads are not where this pub should be thinking outside the box.
Not in the mood for wings? Their burger selection hits the mark. Their stuffed burgers, served on steak buns with crispy fries, are tasty with enough of a twist to come out above the standard cheeseburger found on every other menu. Got a hankering for some bacon? Try their Baconlicious with extra bacon (that's ten slices of fatty pork, if you're counting!). While their poutine uses grated marble cheddar, which makes this Quebecer cringe, at least it's made with beef gravy instead of brown or chicken gravy most other places use.
All in all, it's a great place for a beer and some wings with friends And if you want to catch the game, you're bound to find it on one of their many flat screens around the bar.Listed in: Good Burger

Full disclosure, the last time I went to Bubba Rays it was still called the Peel Pub and you could still smoke inside.... (oh the glory days..)
Anyway, I found myself there recently during the hockey playoffs. It's come a long way since the Peel Pub days!
Gotta say, its a nice looking, sportsy, bro orientated spot, which you know what? That's totally legit!
My gripe comes with their beverage selection. They only carry Molson products, which as a pretty hard core Olands fan, threw me off my game when I walked up to the bar to buy a beer.
Nevertheless, you can buy an entire BUCKET of beer, which I'm totally down with and which I also recommend because the service was kind of spotty.
So, all in all, not a bad spot to watch the game and drink yourself happy.. provided you're down with Molson... -

I've become a fan lately of Bubba Ray's for no reason other than for their wings. I have no idea what any of their other foods is like as I've never ordered anything beyond the wings.
They have quite the list of sauce options for their wings, so there is sure to be something to suit everyone. The wings arrive quickly and are steaming hot.
It is a sports bar so be prepared for a variety of different games to be on the TVs. If thats fine with you and you want great wings and beer, Bubba Ray's is the spot for you. -

I haven't had the best luck when it comes to Bubba Ray's. Perhaps it's just that they don't have wing night down to the fine art that Your Father's Moustache up the street does, but I've had more than a couple bad experiences at this pub.
For one thing the wait staff at Bubba Ray's seem to be extremely inexperienced. Now I'm a lady who likes her beer and wing nights on the double! You don't head to bars like this for the ambient experience. The wings and assorted other reasonably straightforward pub grub all seem to take a fair chunk of time to make. Really, it's about as complicated as pouring cereal; I fail to say why wait times on wing night are 30-45 minutes at this repudiated wing spot.
Good place to go watch the games for sure albeit a few more of the loud jock types than you'll find at Oasis across the street. Bubba Ray's does have $10 pitchers of Coors light and Canadian everyday.
PS: If you happen to be an out of province 18 year old... Don't bother giving Bubba Ray's a try. They have a book with all of the Canadian/American licenses in it! -

This place is great. I flew to Halifax just in time to catch the Steelers game on Sunday, was able to watch some playoff baseball and the opening night of the Canucks season. Crowd was awesome.

If disappointment could take on a corporeal form it would be the blue burger. It wound up just being a leaky mess. That said, the chicken wings are actually quite good. Service is attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Lesson: stick to the wings and beer.

I like Bubba Ray's one night a week. Thursday is wing night, and as a restaurant that specializes in wings, Bubba Ray's lives up to the hype.
There are a ludicrous number of sauce and wing options at this place. Anything you can imagine having on your chicken wings, you can have on your chicken wings. The wings are generally well cooked and meaty, which is great because some places around town who go for volume forget the fact that the wings should actually be tasty as well.
So Thursday nights, definitely check out Bubba Ray's and have some cheap and delicious wings and watch every sporting event in the world on their infinite number of televisions, but any other night of the week, well, I would probably avoid this place. Not because it is a bad spot, but everything else they do is generally done a little better by other places in the area.
Also, Bubba Ray's partakes in the worst kind of cheap highway robbery... the debit service charge. This is always an issue for me - I find it to be cheap and a real money grubbing tactic. For a restaurant of Bubba Ray's size that does a decent amount of business, it is a shameful policy that serves to drive me to other wing nights from time to time. -

Now here is your typical sports bar. Everything about the place just screams sports bar, from the sports paraphernalia to all the big screen TV's broadcasting different sports. If you're a sports enthusiast, you know where to go.
Not being a huge sports person myself, you can understand why this wasn't my favourite of places. It's hard to have a conversation when every few minute's people are screaming at the screens and hooting and hollering. It seems like it would be fun if there is an important game on or something, but to go just for beers seems silly to me.
The service was a-okay. Not too slow, but not too happy either. Our waitress just seemed mundane when serving our table. Perhaps she could tell our group weren't the sports type.
The prices were fine, but not great enough for me to love this place. I'd rather spend my money at a regular bar... one that isn't so sporty! -
Review from Laura P.
Those looking for a good old fashioned sports bar need not look further. Bubba Rays provides a double fist pump of times for those who enjoy a game with their brew.
TVs, fans, and popular pub-fare are amongst its main attractions, not to mention fast and friendly service. This is certainly not my scene... but thats not to say I can't recognize a good spot when I see one.
Again, not my kind of food, but the chicken wings are supposed to be great. Anyone looking to get out for a little game action can expect a great overall atmosphere amongst quality service, drink deals and fare. Its the perfect sports fan formula. -

Bubba Ray's does two things really well- chicken wings and living up to it's name as a sports bar. I'm not even sure what they have more of- big screen TV's tuned in to sports channels or varieties of sauces for wings.
Bubba Ray's is a large walk up restaurant that has a row of windows that overlooks Spring Garden Ave. As you might expect from a sports bar, this place is noisy, and most people who come to watch the games are drunk, or well on their way to it. There is a lot of space, so it doesn't get that rowdy, and it's also a great place to eat for large groups.
One downside to Bubba Ray's is that they always seem to be understaffed. Everyone is frantically running around and it's hard to signal someone down for refills (especially on nights when it's pretty full).
I've always left Bubba Ray's feeling full, happy, and with my wallet intact. I'd put up with a lot more than a few drunk hockey fans for more meals like that.
Hot Hint: My favorite meal is the (Alexander Keith's) beer battered fish and chips. -

I am not a bit sports fan. And I have fun at Bubba Ray's! That should give you some indication as to how much fun this place is.
Expect sports 24/7 and loud sports fans. That being said, I find the volume of the place at lunch time pretty normal for any bar or restaurant. The staff are excellent! Fast and friendly. And Bubba Ray's claim to fame is its huge wing selection! You definitely get a good size amount of wings for the right price. And there are so many different kinds of wings and sauces to choose from, you will never get bored.
Bubba Ray's does it right. Great food, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere. What else can I say? -

Taking my son out one night for wings this was the location that he chose. Really not being a major sports fan I think this bar might have changed that.
Walking into to just that everything sports from racing to fight nights to pool tables it is testosterone all the way except the waitress who my son uses the term HOT.
We ordered the wings with hot sauce and they were delicious large and juicy and messy just the way we like them. Great food and a fun and lively location overlooking the busy Spring Garden road with a large window. When we were there it was very busy and like other reviews most people where they to get a buzz. I had to work the next day but I probably would have a few and I enjoyed myself alot. Overall the prices were reasonable but it was the famous wing night.
