Someone famous said something like- None are so blind as those who cannot see.
Well, I have walked by this place for AT LEAST 14 years and never noticed it. Not once. What in the... has made me look past it, I have no idea.
How embarrassing!
I found out they were here from YELP and brought a couple of watches over here for battery replacement. It took no time. They also fixed a bracelet for me (took out a few links) right on the spot. Fixing all items took less than 20 minutes.
While waiting, I got to take a quick look around. They have some awesome stuff. More than you would imagine from the outside (don't judge a book by its cover). They carry Imperial Topaz. Yes, yes they do. And, they know what quality Imperial topaz is. Ask about this to a mall jeweler and most clerks will look at you with a blank face, or they will not have any pieces in stock- almost 100% for sure. It is not a common or a cheap stone. Bryn Mawr Jewelry Co. keeps some on hand. Nice to know. I know where I am shopping for Mom next! -
Review from Rachel G.
After reading all the reviews on here I had to tell my boyfriend that this should definitely be a stop on his engagement ring tour! He popped in a few days later and met Scottt and told him what I was looking for. He said he should be able to get diamonds of what I wanted in a week and will be in touch.
Fast forward a few days and after looking around, I realized my diamond choice had changed, so the boyfriend called Scott and told him to get some different diamonds. Not a problem he said and we should still hear back from him in a few days. Well, it took a little longer and my boyfriend had to call Scott to see when they would be in, but not a huge deal.
We make an apt and when I walk in I was shocked how small this place was. My boyfriend did tell me it was 'about the size of a hallway' and he wasn't kidding. Still...we had a nice experience and Scott was very friendly and nice. He knows his diamonds and we felt at ease through the whole process. This is where I found my dream setting and thought it was perfect! But at that point we were still in the begining stages so weren't ready to make a decision. We left with Bryn Mawr on the top of our list!
Fast forward again to about 5 weeks later and we are engaged with a ring from a different store. My boyfriend ultimately decided to get me a ring from a store in the suburbs to save on tax and he thought the price was a little better. I still think about that band at Bryn Mawr, but I am very happy too with what I have.
I would definitely go back for other jewlery needs! -

Great service, great prices and great location! I brought in a ring to be resized and a necklace to be shortened. They turned around my job in a week. The ring fits great and although the necklace was shortened to a length we agreed would work, it's just a little too short now and requires an extender to be worn.
I would highly recommend these guys. They absolutely know their business! I will be bringing any/all jewelry here to be resized, cleaned, etc. Thanks guys! -

Time to do this review.
Quite simply... awesome. I'd venture a guess their prices are lower than most, but they aren't pushy, and super friendly. We had multiple people help us each time we were in there, and they were also incredibly quick with engravings and changes to our wedding bands. Might not look like much on the outside, but like most things, it's what's on the inside that counts. Friendly staff, huge selection, better service. I wish I had more jewelry to buy, so I could keep coming back. -

Scott and his wife are awesome. They reset my engagement ring for me about a year ago, for a great price. I have had some problems with it (a couple of the small side stones kept falling out) and Scott happily replaced the stones for free. This last time it happened, he ended up recasting, meaning remaking, the entire ring for me. He had apparently been using a different company last year, and wasn't entirely happy with their work. So he just remade it using the new company which he said is much better. All at no charge and always with a smile.
The customer service offered at Bryn Mawr is just great, and Scott really knows his stuff. Such a great neighborhood find. Highly recommend, even with the issues I have had. -

This is my new favorite jewelry spot. We even put my old wedding band and a deposit down at one of the bigger jewelry stores and I still haven't picked it up, since we bought out ring here.. When I came here, I realized that I couldn't go back. We got such a great deal and the people were so nice, I am smiling with joy. Thank you Scott so much for making me and Woody Harrelson happy.
Thank you Scott for making my wedding ring. I love supporting local business. -

When I was looking for a simple wedding band, I started online. What can I say? I'm of that generation, and I work for a tech start-up. I found a really attractive gemstone ring on http://Zales.com. It was pretty, and not your typical wedding ring, and a good price. Or so I thought, until only two months of wear had me missing a stone and two prongs. I went online again to find a good deal, but I would hover over "add to cart" each time, wondering if the same thing would happen, and knowing that there wasn't a reliable human behind that website who would help if something happened. So, I walked down to Bryn Mawr, where I had taken a watch to be repaired, and gave them parameters that would have any person who works on commission completely uninterested in helping me:
*I'm not the kind of girl who likes delicate things or having to think much about taking care of jewelry. I want something durable, before pretty.
*I don't like too much sparkle
*I don't want to spend a lot of money. I have beer and sushi to buy
*If something happens to this ring, will you help?
*Also, I have no idea what metal or stone (if any) that I want. I think I like vintage stuff, usually.
Nightmare.
But the woman at Bryn Mawr did not treat me as such! She showed me all price ranges at first since I said I didn't really know mine, as I didn't know what to expect. She helped me narrow it down, and then showed me things in that range. She even prompted me to think about the ring 20 years from now, and how I might be wearing it, etc, so I made the best long-term choice. Before I even asked, she let me know that when you buy a ring from them, you can come in once a year and they will check out the security of the stone and polish any tarnishes, and fix anything that may be wrong FOR FREE. This includes if a stone pops out on a fluke and resizing if I get fat. Just saying.
For these additional services, it's really worth the extra money you are trying to save when shopping online. They were very nice, and had the ring I chose sized for me the next day. -

On the strength of other reviews here, I stopped by for some help getting a battery and setting the time for what can only be described as a very temperamental clock. The staff came through admirably. I've returned two more times. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. I brought in three wristwatches, all needing new batteries, one needing a new band. I expected to have to leave them, but two of the staff worked on them right away and I was out the door in 10 minutes. Add to this mix that the costs are pretty low, and, pardon the pun, this place is truly, a real gem!

The hus gave me a gorgeous pair of diamond studs for my bday (bought elsewhere). They came with screwback posts which really irritated my hole (why is this review sounding dirtier by the second?)
I brought 'em in to Bryn Mawr Jewelry to be fixed. It only cost $50 for the materials and labor. The owners were really helpful, they did great repair work, and it was done in under a week. No dirty jokes about it- this is a great jewelry shop! -

We were recommended to go see Scott by a friend who uses them frequently. We were SO happy we went! I had looked for months for the perfect wedding band to match my engagement ring(which was bought from another jeweler by my now husband) and I was having trouble finding something that matched and that I loved. I finally found just the right thing and Scott said he could make it custom to match my band! He is so personable, nice, honest and can work with in your budet. He even rushed the design and creation of the ring so we could have it in time of our wedding date, at no additional cost. The ring is just beautiful and I would absolutely go back! Also, little to my surprise, my husband had a necklace made for me as well for our wedding day that Scott also did. He was able to create a diamond necklace using a precious diamond heirloom. It is flawless and so beautiful!
Overall, I would recommend them! Great service from a local jeweler who will take great care of you :) -

I have been going to this place your years for quick fixes and just to oggle at the beautiful (well priced might i add) pieces he has in this quaint little store front next to the train. Cool fun facts: prices are reasonable, service is excellent, great for the quick fixes (need a watch batt replaced, screw loose in a bracelet, etc), offers a payment plan for clients on a budget or fixed incomes, and has pieces that arent carried in store but can be specially ordered and at no extra cost usually (not always the case strictly based on the item).
Whos can beat this? No one not even Jared!!! lol and every kiss in edgewater begins with Bryn Mawr Jewelry Co lol -
Review from Matt T.
I'd give Bryn Mawr Jewelry 3.5-4 stars overall. Everyone is nice and helpful and I felt like I received a lot of attention when looking for a gift for my fiancee to give her before our wedding day. I had some things in mind and they worked through what I was looking for and in my budget. The process was quick and painless and we were able to find a piece I was interested in from a catalog in which the jeweler could take the pearl and the diamond and put them together to form the pendant for the necklace.
Upon closer inspection I think the craftsmanship could have been a bit better on the gluing of the diamond to the pearl but the flaw is really only visible on the back of the pendant and you have to look closely.
I think the prices were reasonable but my only beef was that I never received a call that the necklace was ready. I was told it would be a week and I waited almost two weeks and never heard anything. I decided to stop in on my way home from work and the necklace was ready and had been ready for a week.
Overall, nice shop, nice people, decent selection. I'd consider going back but would probably start with the business where I purchased the engagement ring and wedding bands. -

Absolutely love them! I would never go anywhere else.
My fiance purchased a ring elsewhere, but wanted to make sure he got a good deal. He brought the ring in and they looked at it for free! They were so friendly and helpful. We also brought the engagement ring in to get it resized and they got it done on the next day. We will absolutely be using them for all our jewelry needs in the future - including our wedding bands! -

Scott and Jessica and the most wonderful people to work with. They really care about getting to know you as a customer, and they have excellent quality work. The prices are extremely affordable! The turnaround time for their jewelry is amazing, and the best thing is they are open during the evenings and on Saturday!
The only thing that would help is having a few more people working in the store because at times it does get busy with so many customers in there, but it's definitely worth the wait : ) -

HORRORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to put my stuff into the dryer and found, sopping wet and without it's face, my sweet Seiko watch that my parents had given me for college graduation!
I hot-footed it to Bryn Mawr Jewelry where Jessica promised to try her best to dry it out and save it....she also re-battery-ed and re-banded some of my other watches. Great prices!
In the mean time, Scott took a look at my ring ( a family heirloom) and pronounced the stone "loose". He secured it, all the time letting me observe to feel comfortable. Every person that I have loved with all my heart had worn that ring and he understood how important it was to me.
This is how a business earns their customers' trust. I will not hesitate to go to Scott and Jessica with any and all jewelery issues ( big or small) in the future.
And while my poor old college watch was beyond saving ( after all, they are jewelers, not magicians) I am satisfied that they did their very best to help.
Great service, excellent prices. And trustworthy. -

I'm creating an account just for this place. I didn't know anything about rings, but I had seen the reviews for Bryn Mawr Jewelry Co. on Yelp, so I tried it out. It's a little hole in the wall, but it's a gem in its own right. Jessica helped me (with various input from Scott) find a great ring based on my nebulous ideas of what it should be ("large but no too big, sparkly but not blingy, intricate metalwork but not overcomplicated, etc."). I felt that they were totally up front with me on quality and costs. There was no pressure (in fact, they wanted to show me more than I really needed to see, just so I would be sure in my choice), but they were warm and welcoming. I'd recommend them a hundred times over.
My now (as of yesterday) fiancee loves the ring, using the word 'perfect' in her description when I gave it to her. So, thanks Bryn Mawr Jewelry Co.!
One warning--they are closed on Wednesdays. I didn't look closely enough at the times that they are open and made the long trip just to find the doors shut. The fault in that is all mine, though. Just be aware of that.
UPDATE: I forgot to confirm my email address with Yelp. This review actually dates to April 2011. I still give them five stars without hesitation, however! -

I would give Scott 10 stars if I could. We came to Scott to create our engagement ring. I liked certain elements of a few rings but none of them were exactly what I wanted. I showed Scott the pictures and told him what I liked about the rings. About a week later he sent me a CAD design of my dream ring with all the elements I liked incorporated in it. He made the entire ring beautifully and for an amazingly reasonable price.
I cannot express enough gratitude to Scott. I got the ring I wanted within the budget we asked for in the timeframe we asked for. I will never shop at a regular jeweler again. Why would I when Scott can create something more beautiful? -

My husband and I LOVE this place and Scott and Jessica are absolutely wonderful to work with. Even though the location is not convenient for us (we live in west suburbs), we will always make the trip to shop there.
My husband purchased my engagment ring at Bryn Mawr and since then we have made a few other purchases. They are easy to work with, trustworthy, and genuinely nice people. Oh - and the prices are great too!
We will go to Bryn Mawr for all of our jewelry needs in the future. -

Bryn Mawr Jewelry Co. is as good as advertised. The first time that I walked in the door with my girlfriend (at the time), Scott wasn't there. He was on vacation, but a woman named Theresa (I believe) was there running the shop in his stead. We had been looking at engagement rings for months, but Bryn Mawr was the first jewelry store that made us feel like they wanted us to get what we wanted, rather than trying to sell us an overpriced, generic ring.
I went back about month ago to have an engagement ring made. I walked in the door with a stone and a few ideas for a setting, and I walked out 3 weeks later with a beautiful ring. Scott worked with me to create what is almost an exact replica of a vintage ring that my now fiancee had not so subtly hinted that she loved. And he did it for a remarkably reasonable price.
The ring looked just like I thought it would. It was so beautiful that I couldn't wait to give it to the woman of my dreams. Thank you Scott, for creating our perfect ring within our budget! -

After dating my girlfriend for three years, I decided it was time to take the next big step and ask her to marry me. Like most men, I know very little when it comes to jewelry and was not sure where to start when it came to buying a ring. My girlfriend had sent me several hints on places to visit should I want to "pop the question," and this was the first place I visited. From the moment I walked into the shop the staff was attentive and very helpful when it came to choosing a ring. I had come in with a certain budget in mind, but was blown away by one certain ring that was amazing. At no point did I feel pressured into picking the higher priced ring, and they even gave me several other options that were more in the range I was looking at. After going to several other jewelry stores throughout the city, there was something about that ring and this place that stood out in my mind. The staff was very helpful in setting up a payment plan to meet my needs as well, which took the burden of covering the cost of the ring all at once. I truly felt like they created a personalized experience just for me and did everything to make this important decision as simple as possible. It is a place that is one of a kind in terms of selection and customer service. My now fiancee gets constant compliments on her ring and her friends were convinced it is a family heirloom instead of something I found in a jewelry store. I could not be more satisfied with my experience, and I am positive I will be returning in the future for any other jewelry related needs.

You helped make my dream engagement ring a reality! I recently became engaged to the man of my dreams last month, but before he popped the big question he wanted my feedback on what type of ring I wanted. I saw Bryn Mawr Jewelry Co. had great reviews and loved the rings I saw yelpers post on here. My fiance went into the store and found the most unique ring that was everything I could ever dream of but nowhere to be found. It's custom, it's antique/vintage looking, the detailed-wrap around on the mount is unlike anything I have seen! So sparkly! From what my fiance said, it was a custom ring mount purchased from a dealer in New York, and the owner had to custom cut the diamond to fit the mount, so they are two unique pieces :) My friends keep asking me if it is a family heirloom because they cannot believe my thespian fiance could afford such a beautiful ring. Which leads to my next point -- Best part of all, they really worked with him on price for the ring because he had to have this ring for me. This has meant the world to us! He loved their service, and I love yelp for making this store a top pick as it is definitely deserved. Thank you so much Bryn Mawr Jewelry Co.!!! I can't wait to see what kinds of wedding bands you have!

Based on my previous experience, I brought my late father's old class ring in to be sized for myself and was extremely pleased with the reasonable price and speed at which they completed the task. While there, I also bought a beautiful white gold necklace to use with a charm recently given to me by a friend.

Another shinny and sparkling review for Scott!! The minute you meet the man, you will see that he is just glowing with friendliness you will want to give him your business too.
Yelp lead us here on the search for a men's wedding band, and our first stop was not super successful. We had just come from a big jewelry shop downtown and found a ring that we loved. Scott does not carry much inventory in the store, so we left empty handed, but his great impression stayed with us.
We decided to be sneaky and go back to the overpriced jewelry store downtown, pick out a ring, and have Scott order us a ring to its exact specifications. He absolutely succeeded, and for about half the price!!
Scott also ordered our ring from a Chicago supplier. He shared that he tries to do all his business locally and support Chicago. On my last visit to the store, I even heard him abruptly hang up the phone on a New York supplier who was bugging him for business.
My hubby-to-be, and I agree, that all further jewelry purchases we make (and I told my man, there better be many!! :)) Scott is our go-to-guy.Listed in: No B.S. Bridal

OH MY GOD do you know how hard it was to wait to write this review??? TWELVE days. Twelve days to keep my big mouth shut and try to keep a secret. Twelve days that I couldn't sing the praises of the masterful, awesome work that I needed to tell, wanted to talk about SO BADLY!
I was given my grandfathers 14k gold Bulova pocket watch when he passed away, 20 years ago. It has never worked. In fact, the two times I took it to different jewelers to have it repaired, one told me "it would be way too much for you to afford" (which was probably true at the time, I was in college after all) and the other said "its junk. Throw it away (!!!)". what!
So, it's been in a drawer ever since. Unused. Mostly forgotten about. Then one day Andy said that he wished he had a pocket watch. I showed him mine. He said it was awesome but too bad it was broken. So for a wedding present I thought I would get this one fixed up for him. Enter Scott. Scott was fantastic and told me straight from the beginning - "this is going to cost you X amount to fix, since it is so old and not too many people have these parts anymore, but I can do it." I said OK and that I needed it for the end of May. 2nd week of May he calls and says it is done.
Oh and he also cleaned and fixed up the watch I got as a 16th birthday present, which stopped working because it got wet and something rusted inside. Now I have my beloved watch back too.
But back to the pocket watch. Cleaned. Repaired. Engraved on the back. In under the time and price he initially quoted. This place is no joke. I am so happy to have found them, I will be giving them regular business from now on. And I am glad the watch has a new owner!Listed in: My ROTD list

I'll keep this short, sweet, and to the point. I knew very little about jewelry when I decided it was time to get an engagement ring. I decided to check this place out since it was right in the neighborhood and well-reviewed here.
Jessica helped me out, taught me some things about rings, and showed me several good options. I wasn't quite sure what style to get, so she arranged for me to see and compare some solitaire and three-stone settings. I eventually went with one of the first rings I checked out, and my fiancee loves it! The pricing seemed reasonable, too.
Scott was around for some of this too, and his final work on polishing the ring up made it look great. I owe thanks to both of them. -

Scott is a jewelry healer.
He brought back to life my watch which took a beating and one day flipped me off and just stopped telling time.
It was not even correct twice a day, just simple silence.
After yelping for places to repair such a thing, this place popped up and the words of previous customers proved correct.
I now can tell you the time, in the dark or in the light, in a club or in a cab, under the sheets or in a dirty wet tunnel.
The watch works everywhere and i know what time it is....
you can now call me the time keeper. -

Honest.
I have a watch that had a scratched face, so I asked if he could replace the face for me.
The owner told me he could buff out the scratches, since it's just a plastic Swatch.
I would not have known the difference. It would have been more money and less work for him to sell me a new watch face. Instead, no charge for his labor.
I had a loose stone in a ring. He fixed that too. For cheap. I would have had no way to know if he had charged me three times what he did, and I would have paid it gladly.
Honest. -

Turns out wearing my wedding ring while demoing a bathroom is not the smartest thing I've ever done. One slip of the FuBar tool and my ring was shaped like a wonky egg. Luckily no stones popped out but it needed repair.
A handy dandy Yelp search turned up Bryn Mawr Jewelry Co. I gave him a call to make sure he could repair the ring and he was very friendly, saying he could. Turns out I cracked the ring and some welding was involved but I could pick it up later that day. I have to say I was nervous to leave my ring there for a couple hours but I got it back (same diamond, I checked :) ) and it was mended and sparkling clean.
A $50 lesson to not wear my ring while performing heavy labor? I'll take it. -

This jewelry store has been here forever, literally. Even though I've lived in this 'hood for thirteen years now, I didn't go in until today. My beloved Seiko watch stopped working and I needed a battery. I popped in, and the friendly guy fixed it on the spot for $6!!
While chatting with the owner (?) he told me that this store has been in this neighborhood for 100 years. Quelle longevity! Also notable is that there have been only four owners in that time. They have some gorgeous jewelry and watches - now all I need is a few bushel baskets full of money to spend here.
Very friendly, cute store. Watch repair a specialty!Listed in: Edgewater Beach

I'm glad I followed yelp and went here to get my ring repaired. It was completely smooshed. Oval. And one of the gems had popped out. I walked in and showed Scott the damaged, he said "This will be no problem," and I couldn't believe how affordable his charge was.
I returned a few days later and received a ring that looked brand spanking new. When I brought it in it was tarnished after 4 years of neglect. The ring was not only repaired but sparkling! All that for 20$ even. Thanks Scott~ -

I got a really bad knot/tangle in my diamond necklace and was desperate to get it fixed the same day since I was going out of town the following day. After stopping in at 3 different jewelry stores, they all told me it would take a week or more to get it fixed and back to me, because they didn't have a person on the premises to fix it.
I did a quick Yelp search on my phone and happened to find Bryn Mawr Jewelry Company. I called, and the nice owner Steve said no problem, come on over, I can fix it while you wait ... I waited a few minutes for him to finish up with another customer, then he went and fixed the missing piece of the clasp on my necklace in under 10 minutes, and he shined up the diamond for me as well. He's not only the owner, but he does repairs as well right in the back of this small store. And he could not have been more friendly - plus, it only cost $10.
Go here next time you need a quick repair if you ever get a bad tangle/knot/missing piece of a clasp/whatever on your necklace!
