When we rented our cottage up in the small town of Tobermory, we knew we'd be spending a lot of time exploring the parks nearby. Let it be said, that visiting the Grotto well worth the drive from Detroit, Toronto, or where ever you might be coming from.

To reach the Grotto, which is an impressive formation of rocks rising up from the Georgian Bay, you'll be hiking one of the tougher trails; Marr Lake Trail. The challenge in the trail is the amount of rocks, both large and small you'll be climbing on. It's even more challenging if you want to climb down into the caves around the Grotto and really grab some amazing photos.

Take note of the water, as it's crystal clear (and ice cold). You won't find many sandy beaches here though, as the shoreline is made up of mostly limestone.

Other trails around the park are much simpler to manage, being flat, well marked and maintained. In the summer months you'll find many tourist int he area, so if you can venture up in the early spring, you can avoid the crowds.

Maybe my favorite park in Ontario, it's definitely worth the visit.

Holy crap, I cannot believe how beautiful this place was.

The husband and I came here on a recommendation from a local after our original plan was cancelled due to weather. She told us to go to the park and check out something called "The Grotto". We went, got a map from the office, paid the daily parking rate ($12) and set off on a hike to the Grotto. The hike took us through some beautiful forest, then up and down some rocky cliffs and showed us an incredible view of Lake Huron.

The pictures do the beauty some justice, but they don't describe the exhilaration of climbing and sitting on the top of a cliff, watching the crashing sapphire blue waves below, or the experience of utter serenity in the forest.

I can't speak for the camping (campgrounds looked well maintained), but I can say for sure that the hiking was amazing.

We will probably visit again, just so we can show our friends how amazing it is.
