Friendly staff, free wifi (ask for the password), and huge bagels.  In fact, the bagel was so big that I wish I had ordered one of their mini bagels instead.

It's so nice to go to a place in NYC where the staff is friendly and genuinely wants to help you.

As a bonus it's rather quiet inside, and they have a nice, clean restroom.

Walk the 3 blocks from Murrays to Brooklyn Bagel!!! I'm done with Murrays who refuse to toast my carbohydrates. Over Ess-a which are fatties. LOVE this place!

Came here on a whim. First meal/snack after hours of "issues" from not good food. Lots of bagel options. Round and thick. Insane amount of cream cheese options.

I split the multigrain raisin oat bagel with low fat veggie cream cheese. i chose not to ask to have it scooped like I usually do.  It was SO good. The bagel rocked. They put tons of cream chsse on and it oozed over the sized. it reminded me of my favorite Jewish deli in Montgomery County Md growing up that closed when I was in high school. Oh the nostalgia of those slathering of cream cheese on fat bagels...yum...

The only item to note - a bagel with cream cheese cost me $4.41. That's extremely expensive. But it's so good.

    And they toasted it. Bam.

First time in NY and first time trying the famous bagels. I AM CONVINCED! To this day, I have yet to find a bagel place that compares where I live. (Maryland)

My boyfriend and I both ordered bagels. I had the garlic bagel with egg salad and he had the everything bagel with sun dried tomatoes. They literally pile on the cream cheese and egg salad here. It's amazing. They're super generous with their portions. Good price as well! Will be back again!

Yikes - BBC has some some large, tasty, and expensive bagels!  Stopped in for a quick bite for breakfast today and couldn't even finish my bagel.  Loved the bagels themselves, we tried the Everything and Wheat Everything and both were very fluffy and delicious.  The cream cheese is slathered on excessively (like every other shop) and is hit-or-miss based on the flavor - we really liked the asiago jalapeno cream cheese (be warned, it's spicy) but the salmon cream cheese is seriously lacking in salmon and not worth trying.  Also the coffee/espresso drinks are pretty average, but then again you're there for the bagels anyways.  If it wasn't for the prices (~$4 for bagel + cream cheese) I'd say this place is a favorite of mine - in either case, you owe it to yourself to check it out at least once!

This is hands-down the best bagel place in New York. The selection of bagels, cream cheese, and other food items is incredible, and everything tastes great. The staff members are always nice, never mess up an order no matter how busy they are, and will come to know you by name and order after just a few visits.

I had the toasted everything bagel with Tofu cream cheese with spinach. The bagel itself was ok, but the tofu cream cheese with spinach was amazing!  They put a nice thick layer of it between the bagel buns so I had to take some out since it was a little too much for me but it was really good!

The service wasn't all that great but maybe because my friend and I looked like we didn't know what we were doing.  We didn't really know how to order so we got them a little frustrated lol~

    Overall 4 stars!

I am a believer! BB is my new favorite bagel spot. The best part? They carry Hale and Hearty soups! Even better? They give you a bagel with your soup order. Even, even better? It is actually cheaper to get soups here than at Hale and Hearty, not to mention the bread is so much better here. *Happiness*

They have a huge variety of cream cheese and it does get slightly pricey with cream cheese but they definitely make sure you get your money worth. Perhaps a little too eager to make sure you get your moneys worth as they lather on a huge slab of cream cheese. I find that I have to take a little off because they give so much.

The one thing I dislike? That everyone else also thinks this place is amazing, hence making it my morning bagel place hard as I have to factor in about a 10 minute wait time during peak hours :/ Lunch is typically much faster. Definitely worth a try!

Ok, I've been on the hunt for a great NYC bagel,  this was my first stop after reading yelp reviews. I ordered a poppyseed bagel with tofu cream cheese, nova salmon and capers, plus a cup of coffee. Nearly $14.00 later!  I was shocked at the price. I asked the cashier for a receipt but he didn't know how to retrieve one, as I  wanted to see how it got so expensive.

I have to say The bagel was one the best I ever have had. Soft bagel, salmon was fresh not fishy tasting. The tofu cream cheese was fluffy and coffee very good ( I normally drink dunkin donuts). Overall, very filling and would cover me for breakfast and lunch so that makes it $7.00 each meal :-). In the end I'll come back maybe not go so crazy with the pricy toppings.

This must be what Starbucks was like before it opened thousands of franchises. Vaguely angsty indie music playing, local art for sale on the walls, that dark wood thing Starbucks has going on, etc.

Bad: the guy behind the counter wouldn't quit giving me a hard time (good-naturedly, I think), they didn't have the cream cheese I wanted, and I lost my sunglasses here.

Good: the bagels are enormous, you get a good amount of cream cheese, and I'm pretty sure the counter guy comped my water to make up for the psychological distress he inflicted.

Bagels worth seeking out!  I've had NYC bagels from all over the city...from most of the major players etc...Many times I'll bring them home from a trip for the family.  In most cases the bagels are better than the average bagel in the DC area...Brooklyn's bagels however left a far greater impression.  My family LOVED these bagels.

When toasted they are the perfect blend of crunchy on the outside/chewy in the middle.  Each packs a lot of flavor and they are the size of golf cart tires!  Seriously a half is enough for one sitting.

The guys working there were friendly and accommodating as well.

Yes, New Yorkers are passionate about their bagels. This just happens to be my favorite one - even after my share of Murray's and H&H bagels, these taste fresher and the service is FAST. Especially as a regular, the guys behind the counter are super friendly and have an upbeat energy about them. The manager (a bit of a diva) sure cracks the whip but they get through a line like nobody's business. It's always a little funny to see when they have a new guy starting and they all seem to get annoyed if he's not moving as fast as everyone else. I love the different options for tofu cream cheese (of which they provide copious amounts!), my all-time favorite bagel is the pumpernickle (it's like desert!), and their baked goods are pretty solid too. They don't quite get 5 stars since their coffee is pretty ordinary and I find their chairs are way too low for the tables (you sit down and you feel like you're a kid sitting at the grownup table), but overall for a quick-no-frills bagel, this is my spot.

Now that I have lived here for over three months (hooray!!!) I think that Brooklyn Bagel deserves an update and a bump up to five stars. They are fast, their bagels are amazing (try the wheat oats and raisins with peanut butter, you're WELCOME), and they are always so nice even when they're super busy. And now that I have tried many bagel shops I think they give you the best bang for the buck. Well done, fellas!

Ok, they are now substituting meats for premium items on the wraps, yay! This just makes this place the best for having breakfast on the 8th ave (vegetarian or meat lover). They have a great variety of cream cheese spreads (including flavored tofu spreads). My favorites so far are the Tofu walnut cinnamon raisin and the low fat vegetable pesto. Plus when you enter the aroma is delicious.. is kind of dangerous because it makes you want to eat everything!

*BTW avoid going to Murray's Bagels on that same 8th ave! They don't toast bagels and the frittata is nasty plastic! It hurts to eat there, literally.

I don't think I've ever seen quite an amazing selection of bagels and cream cheese. This place had it all.

The bagels are out of this world, and the 'exotic' cream cheese makes it all the more interesting. I wanted a simple breakfast and this place delivered. We got a cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese and a onion bagel with diavolo cream cheese (chipotle pepper).

The strawberry cream cheese actually had REAL strawberries in it. WOW! The diavolo cream cheese was excellent because it had the perfect blend of spice and flavor. I highly suggest stopping by for breakfast one day.

I really with I could have tried another one of their items, maybe a breakfast burrito or something. I will definitely have to come back and try it again.

If you're looking for a basketball sized carb as soft as a pillow and and smooth as a baby's bottom, stop by by Brooklyn Bagel.

I've come here twice and can't seem to order anything other than an egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel. So far, It's the best I've had in Manhattan. (And yes, I've been to Russ and Daughters).

The everything bagel is not just studded, but completely COVERED with the usual spices that will make your eyes bug open.  Add some eggs, cheese and butter, you're looking at an awesomely clogged artery.

The line, always long with eager/impatient customers manages to whiz by. I wish this place had more seating so you could take more time enjoying your carb treasure.

Brooklyn Bagel is one of the few establishments that are equally great for jews, stoners, hungover business men and pregnant lades. And THAT'S saying something.

I LOVE this place. I'm going to start taking trips to neighborhood just to reward myself with their bagels. The amount of cream cheese options is amazing, but I always go with the scallion cream cheese. And they give more than enough cheese per spread (YUM) - just the way New Yorkers like it. The Everything Bagel is super salty, which I love. I've only eaten bagels there so I might be biased.
Of course, it's a little on the expensive side. And it gets busy - which means it's really easy for your order to get mixed up.

Hands down the BEST bagel in New York City. Each of the bagels are hand rolled and water boiled, which is hard to find. I've been on the hunt for a long time, and fortunately for me the search is over! The everything bagel and pumpernickel bagel are my favorites. The prices for a bagel and cream cheese is reasonable, but if you prefer eggs or lox, etc then it gets a bit pricy. Service is quick and easy so don't be discouraged if there is a long line when you walk in. Also love that they feature new cream cheese flavors on a regular basis...one of my favorites is the lowfat cucumber dill.

Everything bagel with bacon scallion cream cheese?

Just the perfect thing to grab before you jump on the bus to leave NYC. The bagel was covered top to bottom with everythingness. The bacon scallion cream cheese had the perfect mix of flavors, and it was generously glommed onto the bagel... just the way I like it.

I got the regular bagel, btw, which was the size of a softball. I'd probably get the mini bagel next time for a more manageable serving size.

One of the BEST bagels I've ever had! I accidentally stumbled upon this place on my way to a house party and I'm so glad I did. The reason I went in is that a lifetime New Yorker friend once told me that a water boiled bagel is a true New York bagel, (versus baked), and BBCC prominently advertised this on their window. I ordered a toasted Everything bagel with chicken salad. I was instantly impressed at the enormous size of the bagel and the reasonable price (only around $5-6, if I recall correctly). The bagel itself had a perfect chewy consistency without any of the hardness or toughness that some bagels have. And the chicken salad was delicious too, with nice big chunks of meat. I would go out of my way to come here again!

Bonus - there is cool local art on the walls that you can purchase.

I really liked this place! So I'm a New York newb and when I saw that you had a choice between a regular sized bagel and a mini, I imagined the mini to be smaller than the palm of my hand, and a regular size to be.. well, REGULAR. So, I got the regular.

It. Was. GIANT. My friend opted for the mini, and THAT was a regular sized bagel. I was so full that I could barely move by the end of it. But it was so, so, so delicious. I got my bagel with the cucumber spread. To be honest, the spread wasn't AMAZING, but it was still very good and refreshing. They really pound on the cream cheese, so be prepared to smear some off.. unless you're a huuuge cream cheese lover!

I'd love to come back. The bagel shop itself has plenty of seating and has a very clean feeling to it, a nice change to some really dirty-feeling hole-in-the-wall eateries in the city.

I'll give you one guess where Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company started and has 3 of their 4 locations. If you guessed Brooklyn, you were wrong. Manhattan? Also wrong. If you guessed Astoria Queens then you've got it right. That's right, this chain of 4 locations started in 2003 in Astoria and this is their first location outside of the neighborhood.

They've got a seemingly endless amount of bagel varieties and cream cheese/spread flavors, it's really hard just to pick one. They also have sandwiches, and a few other food options. The place may lack the old school charm but what they lack in history they make up for in a sleek very well laid clean out interior with a decent amount of seating. Bagels alone are oddly priced at $1.05 but they're also much bigger than any other bagel place so it's worth the little extra. The flavor of the bagels can not, I repeat, CAN NOT, be beat. Their texture could use a little tweaking though. The inside is moist and fluffy as it should be but the outside doesn't have the crispy crust that makes a NY Bagel stand out. It still has a crust but it's just not as hard with a snap that is ideal.

I actually wanted to compare their bagels with the famed Ess-A-Bagel from the LES so I went to both places at 9am Monday morning and got a everything bagel and a cinnamon raisin bagel from each place. The Ess-A-Bagel was just as tall but a slightly smaller diameter (still very big), they had the perfect texture and crispy exterior. Unfortunately the flavors of their bagels were just more bland than Brooklyn Bagel, Ess-a-Bagel also only put the "everything" on the top of their bagels. Another upside to Brooklyn Bagel is that they'll toast the bagels (and/or "scoop" them) if you'd like, something several well known bagel places won't do. The bagels are always fresh so there's a good chance they'll already be hot so you won't need the toasting though. On the down side Brooklyn Bagel offered nothing when it came to friendliness or even eye contact.

If service, charm, and bagel texture is what you're looking for then you might consider going somewhere else but if size, cleanliness, and pure flavor is what you're after most, then Brooklyn Bagel & Coffee Company wins hands down (if you're in Queens or Manhattan).

    Overall Bagel: 8
    Taste: 10
    Texture: 7
    Store: 10
    Service & Value: 5

I know I shouldn't be eating bagels. The carbs! But these guys have really, really tasty bagels. My favorite is a toasted sesame bagel with green olive cream cheese - they're generous with the cream cheese and they have a huge array of flavors!

They have free wifi and the place is never too crowded or too loud for productive evening meet-ups with friends. It's a good location to bring your laptop and get some writing done. And they're open pretty late for a bagel shop, so if you want a dinner bagel before heading down the street for a show at UCB, this is the place.

The staff is very nice, too!

    Brooklyn Bagel is a winner.

Whole wheat everything bagel with tofu cream cheese, that's where it's at! The bagels here are always fresh and good, with just the perfect amount of chew. Even when I forgot to ask them to toast my bagel one morning, my bagel still came out warm. I also love that they offer two sizes, regular and mini, since regular New York-sized bagels are always a bit too large for me.

Besides just bagels, you can also get breakfast platters and heartier sandwiches here. The bf recently ordered a western omelet which was served in a massive portion with home fries and a mini whole wheat bagel.

This is without a doubt one of my favorite bagel spots in the city.

Looking for a place on a Sunday afternoon to do some work/reading (and have coffee/sweet treat) and needed wifi.  Most cafes that we went to either were too crowded or didn't have wifi.  We came upon Brooklyn Bagel and it fit what we were looking for.  It is more of a deli/bagel place, but they had wifi, available seats, coffee, and homemade brownies...so our needs were fulfilled!  The brownie was very rich and tasty.  The bagels and cream cheese looked amazing (and sound awesome from other reviews), so can't wait to come back and try them.

Background: I am from Fair Lawn, NJ. I live in an area where a good percent of people are bagel snobs because of a little place right nearby where there are some people from the West coast are on the mailing list. Still, dayum, this is a solid bagel. Properly thick, properly flavored, and a massive size..

I got my favorite type: Cinnamon Raisin with Cream Cheese, Tomato, and Lox.

    REALLY good lox.

    Coffee was solid.

Bagel was just a little worse than the Fair Lawn Hot Bagel one..just a little. Lox was definitley better (well one is from a grocery store.) bagel was 30 cents more but much larger. Bagel with Lox/CC was 4 dollars more than the Fair Lawn one (wut.)

    Lox gets 5 stars, easily.
Bagel gets 4.5 stars, 2nd best
    Coffee gets 4 stars
Prices gets a 3 but ill bump it up as well it is New York..it will be a little more expensive and the lox was worth it.

Excellent bagels. Had the lox and an egg and cheese. The bagels were large and they had several wheat variations which was nice.  I had the wheat sesame.

Thank you, Murray's Bagels (a few doors down) for closing early! Otherwise, we would have walked past this place. Heading west after a week in NYC, my H and I were determined to take a little NYC with us. We learned 5 very important things:

    1. A half-empty suitcase provides sufficient protection for tasty bagels to make a cross-country trip without being squished.

    2. The term "mini-bagel" is relative at Brooklyn, and translates into "bigger than most other regular bagels."

    3.  Four days later, the bagels are still toasting up like new (stored in a zip-lock)

    4.  Brooklyn's pumpernickel bagel must be touched by the gods to be so good (way better than MB's)

    5.  There really IS nothing like a NYC bagel. Nothing in the west comes close.

This place is a treasure. Guard it well, NYC'ers. I wish they shipped.
