    10/8/2011 1 Check-in Here

    I went to a friend's wedding here.
Apparently, they have the tent set up and left up on the lawn throughout the summer months (and they take it down for the winter). The (usually wedding) guests are seated in the tent. No other groups are seated inside the building, either, so you end up with a nice seating area plus a dancing area inside the building. The view from the Jericho beach location must be spectacular.
For this October wedding, the 7pm start meant we were too late for the view and sunset. Clear plastic sheets covered the sides, so we could see through it enough to see there were lights on the opposing shore, but not pretty enough to look at. It was too warm when the heaters were on, but it cooled off very quickly when they were turned off. I'm glad I kept my coat with me instead of having it hung up.
The ceiling of the tent has small ("Christmas") lights built into it for a sweet effect, and also has four chandeliers. They are dimmable.

The cordless mic was iffy... It was OK most of the time, but would cut out for one second maybe twice every minute. A bit annoying. No "eee!" feedback sound, though.

Mushroom Soup was the highlight of the food. It was an almost fluffy kind of non-heavy creamy, and well seasoned. The chicken breast was also well-seasoned and moist. The skin was not crispy, but enough to be not slippery gross. I liked the broccoli and carrots, too, also well seasoned. I liked that all of them did not feel "overly seasoned" as in overwhelming the food. But if someone is watching their salt intake, they may feel concerned.
Dessert was about four small cream puffs (profiteroles?) arranged in a parfait kind of glass, which was cute, but there was a bit too much whipping cream in the whole arrangement. The cream inside the puffs themselves were good.

The waiters were in bow-ties and vests. The flatware was solid.

I was in the "other friends" table, and though it was a big round one, the 10 settings were very cramped. It worked out, though, since 3 people didn't show up (and we also got to use their drink tickets).

I had been hearing from the bride about how hard it was to get in touch with the coordinator (on more than one occasion), which caused her unnecessary stress. That would make me wary to organize something at this venue (besides the fact that it's probably above my budget range), but it was a nice place to go to as a carefree guest.

My wife and I are wedding photographers, and we've been there for so many many times. Consistently, we've been experiencing the same poor, very poor service!!! This review is totally about the service but not the food.

In order to provide an objective review, I'll give my comment in 3 different perspectives.

    1. As vendors:
A vendor's meal will be provided to all vendors in a separate room if vendors do not seat with other guests together. While the new couple, wedding party, all other guests are having their bread, soup, and salad, nothing is served for the vendors. "Nothing" means really nothing, no bread nor even a glass of water. Even you ask, or the new couples ask, absolutely nothing will be served. Until the entree being served, usually will be at least 9pm to 9:30pm, then the vendor's meal, which is in the size of a kid's meal portion of vegetable pasta, will be served. Sometimes, when the vendor's meal is served or before then, some vendors were gone already.

    2. As regular guests:
All servers are professionally trained for carrying out their basic duty. That is, to serve food and collect empty/used plates as fast as they could. Sometimes when they accidentally kicked or hit on guest chairs with guests sitting on, no "sorry" nor "excuse me" will be heard. Moreover, when some guests (including the parents and family members of the new couples) wanted to get up and go to bathroom or something, they have to yield the way to servers because servers won't stop or pause for whatever they're doing.

    3. As new couples:
I thought the servers only being inconsiderate to guests and vendors but actually and surprisingly not. When new couples are doing their first dance, hard working servers still work brainlessly or like programmed robots, walking thru the dance floor to and from with bus pans and trays with used plates as if they didn't see the new couples are dancing in front of them.

The term "inconsiderate" is actually too mild to describe the scenario, "rude" and "uncivilized" might be more suitable.  Not only us, many of other vendors who we know have been experiencing the same. If you are a couple considering Brock House as your wedding banquet venue, only if you would like to upset your guests and vendors as well as yourselves, you may please reconsider and find somewhere else.
(Too bad, the minimum rating is at least 1 star. Can I go for minus 10?)

Absolutely beautiful venue. I had a corporate Christmas party here. Stunning views - there is a lounge / extra large living room type space for lounging, socializing and trying a few appetizers and a glass of wine. With a real fire place, leather armchairs and sofas, and a seaside view, the atmosphere is cozy and chic at the same time. In the main dining area, large space. It's hard to describe the look without pictures, but basically the decor was fantastic and the food was too. Such a memorable, pleasant evening. Highly recommended for corporate parties and wedding receptions.
