I love used bookstores for the deals and treasures you can find in them.  This is a great example of what a used bookstore should be like!  This store buys and trades new and used books.  The staff is very helpful and happy to help you find anything you are looking for!  Their shelves are loaded with one of a kind finds on all subjects from Anthropology to Travel to Astrology all for very reasonable prices.  I easily lost an hour and a half in here as I wandered through the aisles and flipped through some old favorites and some new must haves.  If you are planning a trip in, be sure to set aside a good amount of time as there is so much to explore here!

There are quite a few good book stores on Whyte Avenue.  If I'm being honest, I don't think Broadvalley Books is one of them.  There was nothing really in the store except plain bookshelves with books.  No one greeted me or asked if I needed help - the person behind the cash register didn't even acknowledge me by looking up from whatever she was reading.
If you like shopping without interruption or assistance, or if you are looking for someplace without any frills or gimmicks - Broadvalley Books may actually work for you.

Every time I walk into a used book store I lose an hour. It's impossible for me to not start touching books, picking a few off the shelf, and ultimately setting aside my plans and finding a little stool to park myself on to read to my heart's content. I love bookstores! And the price is right, here at Broadvalley. They have a broad scope of books, no pun intended. A little bit of everything, but less academic than, say, The Edmonton Bookstore. I found a couple of keepers: The Essential Rumi and an easy-to-digest book on astrology to add to the giant pile of books on my bedroom floor. The guy behind the counter was suitably geeky, full of lots of tid-bits of knowledge from his bookworm tendencies. He was helpful in doing a book search for me, then shed some light on the merits and pitfalls of donating used books to the Goodwill. The space is bright and cozy, with ambient tunes playing. Time passes fast here, amid the intoxicating sights and smells of pages of knowledge, truth, fiction, fantasy, history, projection, conjecture and perspective. And thus concludes my somewhat melodramatic Ode to Broadvalley Books.
