Brix was the first choice for my wedding because it reminds me of NYC with the exposed bricks and old world charm. I also did a lot of research beforehand and wanted the food to be top notch since this was a destination wedding for most of our family and friends.
I worked with Jennifer on all the pre-wedding matters. She manages all the weddings there and you can tell that she has had plenty of experience with weddings because she was making suggestions and pointing out things I never though about. Not only that, she was never pushy and provided all the different options I could have based on my budget. As the day of the wedding approached, our point person changed, but everything ran smoothly with their assigned coordinator on the wedding day. David, Jennifer's husband and one of the ownders, was super accommodating with opening early days before so that we could have our wedding rehearsal. The only downside for the bride is that there is no changing room, but I stayed in my wedding dress so I had no problem.
Their professionalism and service was stellar and I would highly recommend Brix for anyone looking to have an intimate wedding--their courtyard with the chandelier is unparalleled and provides coverage in case it rains (I had a summer wedding). The appetizers during cocktail hour were great and the meal? Let's just say, our guests are still talking about it. After the cake, we also had a variety of late night pizzas towards the end of the reception. It was great since everyone loves munchies after open bar.
Thank you, Brix for making our wedding day so memorable! -

This resturaunt is amazing! I went for my 19th birthday with my family and I'm so happy I did!!
The waiters were friendly, quick to clear our dishes and super friendly! The food was absolutely amazing! We had the first seating fixed menu for $29 a person. It included a starter salad, your main course and dessert.
This resturaunt is spectacular and I would recommend it to everybody! -

Walking the thin line between high quality wine, food and atmosphere versus annoying pretentiousness is a difficult task and one that many restaurants in Vancouver, and especially Yaletown fail at miserably. Brix, on the other hand excels in providing all of the above while avoiding the hipster only vibe.
We were a group of four for dinner and drinks. Our server was friendly, personable and able to make good recommendations from both the wine list and menu. I had the duck breast as my entree and it was perfect.
A few minor gripes not really worth going into detail about. All in all a great night out and worth trying
One caveat: with an average bottle of wine, dinner and dessert be prepared to shell out about $175 (with tip) by the end of the night per couple. -

The first night I came to Brix there was a special event going so the restaurant was closed to the public. Fortunately, the guy at the door was nice when he talked to us. On our second attempt, I made a reservation via Open Table so I was more assured that the restaurant was open! I wanted to try out their late night menu which starts at 10:00 pm. One of their staff members called me at 9:30 pm to make sure I knew that they were serving their late night menu at 10:00 pm. I appreciated the fact that they wanted me to be informed!
I really loved the black curtains at the entrance. It really makes the restaurant seem more mysterious. The low lighting and the quiet ambiance made it a really charming place to dine. There were a few groups at the restaurant but the noise level was low. What you should know about the late night dining at Brix is that it is relaxed and casual. At one point, they played "Jump" by Kriss Kross through the sound system.
We ordered the Brix thin crust pizza (House made bacon, chorizo and mushroom). It had a lot of cheese compared to most pizzas that I order. It was tasty but I didn't find it remarkable. We had the local Dungeness crab cake which was fantastic. It actually had a high ratio of crab content. Perhaps I have been having too many cheap crab cakes where there is really little crab meat in it. Finally, we had the PEI mussels and frites. I was surprised that the mussels were so large. I obviously had been having very small mussels at other dining establishments. I enjoyed picking out the frites from the dish.
The staff was nice and the service was good. Enjoyable late night eats at Brix. -

I am consistently amazed at the quality of food and service at Brix. We have been going here for years and it is our favorite Vancouver experience by far.

3.5 stars; rounded down since higher score for the ambiance.
Enter through the curtains....
Complimentary Bread: soft, lukewarm focaccia
Mussel Appetizer: comes with 3 garlic bread sticks. Ample mussel sauce and mussels. Great with the complimentary bread. Our whole table loved the bread and mussel concoction.
Vancouver Island Line Cod: served with risotto and green beans. Tasted okay initially but after a while it tasted a bit too acidic. The fish was nicely grilled and served as a nice "chaser" to the acidic sauce.
Environment/Service: nice romantic setting with dim lighting. Many mirrors in the restaurant. May get loud depending on the crowd. Refilled water many times but bought the food out quite slow. The place also smelled really fishy...Restroom reminded a friend of Fruit Ninja that she wiped at the mirror only to realize it was a 5 gum advertisement.
Overall, decent place to eat in Yaletown just because of the ambiance. However, it's hard to find parking in the area. If you park on the street make sure you keep track of your meter because there are parking enforcement. We almost got a ticket but luckily we were there and put some money into the machine and was left off easy. Other than the nice ambiance, I'm not sure I would come back again. -

Sitting on the beautiful patio is definitely the place to be when you're at Brix. They installed a glass roof that 'umbrellas' over the roof 40' above the dinners so they can use the space year round. A brilliant addition. You feel like you've found an oasis! We were surprised to discover a TV, silently on for the playoff game. I think they were caving to customer pressure as it's usually covered at dinner time. It wasn't obtrusive at all and I appreciated being able to check the score once in a while.
The food was much better than the old days when I used to find everything had the same dark, savoury sauce. My favourite dish was the beet salad with pearls of goat cheese and pistachios. The mussels small plate is actually quite filling and is served with frites. They bring out a nice basket of bread and I uncouthly used it to soak up the sauce from the mussels. The dessert special was a chocolate pot de creme with Grand Marnier and other scrumptious ingredients. We had a bottle of Liberty School Chardonnay that paired well with everyone's meals and one guest had a glass of Dr. Pauly Bergweiler Riesling with his scallops which he raved about.
Our server took good care of us and I felt bad when he splashed the balsamic vinegar over the table. Being a klutz myself, I could relate. I couldn't bear to mention that some went on my coat and it simply rinsed out anyway.
I'll go back to try some of the other items on the menu for sure. I hope I get to sit on the patio again!Listed in: My Yaletown

The place looked a little odd given the heavy black curtain covering the entrance but once inside it opened to a bright courtyard covered with a massive skylight so it can be enjoyed year-round. The decor and ambience feel very European and the entrance curtain blocks out all the visual distractions and noise from the street and establishes a quiet, relaxed vibe which is a bit of a haven from all the bustle of the city outside.
Our group was seated promptly and the service was excellent throughout the evening. The bartender mixed up some great mojitos to get us started while the servers had some good suggestions for wine pairings for the main course. I ordered the Australian lamb which was served with asparagus and a potato hash. Everything was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and the lamb was mouthwatering to say the least. Delicious is a bit of an understatement and I will definitely be returning for round 2.
I would highly recommend Brix for either a quiet meal or with a larger group, but either way this is definitely a spot to add to your bookmarks and give a try. -
Review from Jen H.
I really wanted to like Brix, esp as it was highly recommended to me by locals and I was looking for some Yaletown eats. Though service was nice, it unfortunately missed on major levels:
1) The Smell.
Yeah, like the dining room stunk like mildew & wet rot. So much of eating is about the smell, and seriously, I could not get over how yuckyo it was, permeating through every breath. I hate bad smells.
2) The Food.
We did the Taste of Yaletown menu, basically a 3-course prix fixe. My buddy liked his buffalo mozz app and lamb chop main; but my duck salad and steak main were both really... I don't know... amateur. The greens were overdressed (and huge no-no unless you're talking about clothes), the duck was tough & flavorless, and the flank steak was a total D- cut, sinewy to the point that I stopped after 1 slice.
Passed on dessert, as did he. (What's up with no cheese course?) That's 1/3 of the prix fixe and we didn't even care. Sunk costs for you economists out there.
The space is neighborhood chic & appropriate for romantic or business dining. With the large patio replete with a ceiling of overhead heaters - sheer genius, considering Van winters - to the eclectic, indie-cool loungey feel inside (and a disco ball!), Brix does have potential...
But alas, a hot body that smells bad and has no personality won't cut it.Comment from David H. of Brix Restaurant 3/15/2011

We came here for the Taste of Yaletown promotion; the food was good, but wasn't amazing. For $35 it was reasonable. We had a party of 8 and they added in gratuity then put the tax on top of the tip which we thought was weird. We talked to the manager about it and he was kind enough to say that he can take it off the bill. Overall, service was good, but we just thought it was weird how they put tax on top of a tip. The panna cotta was a bit sour; the syrup they put on top was really tart. I probably wouldn't come back again; for that price, you can get amazing food elsewhere like La Quercia, Kits Daily, or Bibo. The patio/garden we sat was nice though.

Walking into the enclosed patio makes you feel like you've stepped into the cobblestone streets of New York and Florence combined. I've been there for a nice dinner date for two (uber romantic and intimate lighting), drinks with the girls (we could have sat on the patio for hours...I actually think we did), and most recently, at a dinner party for 25.
My friend and I celebrated our birthdays this past weekend and long story short we had some venue issues. But Brix was eager to accomodate us with 48 hours notice! While they said it would be a limited dinner menu, what it (didn't really) lack in selection, they more than made up for in taste! I had the Free Range Chicken Breast and it was amazing, as was the bed of risotto it sat on. Simply delicious.
Thank you, Brix, for making our birthday an event to remember! -

The patio at Brix - do whatever you can to get a reservation on that patio - it's worth it. There are sky lights over head, and lovely heaters, so it's not much different from eating inside, and is quite comfy even on a dark winter night.
A large group of us joined for dinner - the vegetable risotto looked heavenly, and I can safely say that they know how to do a proper steak. But the desserts? to die for. I think I may have to come back...just for the desserts. -

The food and service is always very good at Brix. I find the room to be a very comfortable space.
At Brix, I tended to order veal or lamb. I have also had steaks and other cuts of game there. The food was always prepared well and served with simple but elegant presentation style.
They also have a nice wine selection by bottle and by glass.
The servers are always professional, friendly, and helpful.
The experience is fine dining without being pretentious. In summer it is also a pleasant option to sit in their outdoor courtyard. -

I've been to Brix for special occasions only so I don't know what it's like as an intimate dinner for two. The decor of the patio is really something special - it reminds me of a little nook on the streets of Europe. I was invited to a birthday party in that setting and I found it to be a great venue for small parties since you can eat and then go for a drink since Brix conveniently has stairs that takes you to George Lounge.
I been here for a couple of dinner parties and while I can't remember how I felt about the food (though it must be good, or else I wouldn't suggest people have their parties there) I do recall that each time I've been there I found there was a bit of a wait for the food to come. But they seem to very accustomed to large groups as it is obvious that the servers are attentive and on the ball.
I do find the menu to be a bit pricey but I suppose this is because of the neighborhood. -

This place is delicious. I had the fortune to go here for dinner last week and I was decidedly blown away.
We sat in the patio/courtyard of the restaurant. I would recommend the patio in any weather as it feels open with ample heating, but a skylight style glass cover high up over the courtyard protects patrons from the elements. The decor of the courtyard consists of pleasant (albiet mostly fake) plants and vines which struck me as vaguely italian in inspiration (without seeming like they were saying "Hey, it's like Tuscany!!! Get it?!").
The menu was very well designed. There was a wonderful variety of choices, but the list was still concise enough as to fit on a two page menu. Another point in favour of the menu is that all the entrees are printed with suggestions of which wine would pair best with it, which is nice to help narrow down the wine list... a bit.
Brix has one of the most extensive wine lists I have ever seen. The depth and number of available wines is a startling contrast to the menu. However, to keep it from being too overwhelming, they organize the list by grape so you can quickly find the type of wine you'd like for your meal.
The food tasted amazing. I had a mixed herb salad that contained dungeness crab meat and cubed watermelon which was delicious (and really interesting, the herbs had a surprising amount of punch compared to conventional baby greens) and the Quebec Wentzel Duck, which was to die for. It came with a blueberry demiglaze, pancetta potatoes and baby spinach with tomatoes and mushrooms which also tasted amazing.
Dessert was also really nice. They had a brand new summer dessert menu that night, which meant that we got to play guinea pig! I got the lemon blueberry pound cake which had lemon mascarpone sauce which tasted really great, though I'll admit that I had a taste of the cheesecake which my sister ordered, which blew my dessert out of the water.
I really loved this place. I plan to go again in future, perhaps winter to see how the menu changes. I recommend to this place to anybody and everybody. -
Review from Darcy C.
This is a very solid restaurant, nice wine list which is reasonably priced for the neighborhood, with a wine bottle special (40% off) late Monday nights.
Not that that does me a huge amount of good, as I am not usually up for drinking a lot of wine late on Monday nights, but still, good to know.
Their fish specials are divine, and their patio is absolutely gorgeous- very European and romantic. -

Went to Brix last summer while hosting guests.
To be honest, it was George where I wanted to take them to, not Brix. But George was curiously loud with no place to sit so we made the trek upstairs to Brix.
We were given a table on their covered patio. The atmosphere was perfect. It felt European. Intimate and enticing the senses.
It happened to be a Monday night (Industry night) so we unexpectedly got 40% off our bottles of wine. They also had a $10 pizza special as well, though I'm not sure if this is part of their industry night special. Anyone care to enlighten me?
We ordered the cheese platter and two pizzas.
The service was attentive but not patronizing. They kept our water glasses full and walked around to refill wine glasses.
All in all a great experience. And who could not love the great deal on wine and pizza? Certainly not a recessionista like myself! -
Review from Maria C.
Adored this space. I'm drawn in by the feel of the open air courtyard, very Euro-feeling; think your junior school courtyard re-imagined with lights, plenty of vines crawling up brick walls and a sweet peaceful retreat from the busy streets. Food was decent, server was knowledgeable on wines and the menu to a tee.
We hit it up at the suggestion of a sweet sales associate from Aritizia (my go-to Vancouver shopping destination) and my dining partners and I were looking for a relaxing dinner and wine to gear us up for a big concert; no shots in bars w/the kiddies as we were winding down after our drive from Seattle.
The guys ate the Kobe and noodle concoction which they raved about all the way home. Also, our server suggested a great rose that we have since not been able to find! It was SO amazing. Try it out on your next visit up north, ay! -

I came here tonight with a friend for drinks based on my previous experience at this place. The previous time was fine, we were only drinking, no food.
Today, wasn't that great. I ordered this riesling from their menu, they ran out, so they recommended another riesling that's also from the Alsace region. When we were served, my wine glass was hot and it soon warmed up the wine very fast.
I called the waiter over and asked why he served me with a hot wine glass, and his reply was "It just came out of the dishwasher, you want that changed?"... (In my head I was thinking, change to what? another hot glass), so I said no thanks. I then checked the rest of the un-poured wine and thought how can they do this and they call themselves a wine house.
I had to ask for a ice bucket twice to chill the decanter...
My riesling didn't taste that good... whatever substitute they were using, was not good, I think I will either order a full bottle next time, or ask them to pour in front of me, but won't be coming here for a while based on today's hot glass experience.
(however, the bartender who had the irish accent seemed to be nice and friendly, he was not the one that served us, but he came over to check our table all the time.) -

When you step into Brix, you feel as if you've step into another era. It has this sophisticated ambiance that exudes 'class'. The breath-taking courtyard is situated at the front, just like many restaurants in Europe - making it seem like maybe you're on vacation.
The menu is not as extensive as one may hope, but rest assured, there will be something you like there. Especially good for sharing is the Cheese Platter that comes with an array of cheeses and breads. Another excellent dish is the Four Mushroom Risotto. They have an amazing selection of wines so I'm sure you'll find something to tickle your fancy.
All in all, Brix is a cosmopolitan restaurant - like something you would see on an episode of Sex and the City. It's in the perfect neighborhood of Yaletown that fully compliments its style. -

Went to Brix last week for a birthday dinner with the girlfriends. Nice ambiance, the patio/courtyard looked very pretty but we were seated inside the restaurant.
The food was actually quite good, somethings that stick to mind: mushroom risotto (I normally hate risotto, but this was very nice), prosciutto wrapper scallops and the duck pate.
My only complaint was the amount of time the dinner took. We were done our entree portion and it took approx 90 minutes for us to get served dessert and get the bill. We had another destination that night so most of us were eager to leave as soon as dinner was done. Our server was a very sweet girl but we were definately at the restaurant way too long.
Not sure if I would go back again. -

Located on Homer, just on the circumference of Yaletown's more fabled streets (Hamilton and Mainland), Brix is understatedly hip. With a red-bricked façade and an open-air courtyard, this place attracts Yaletown denizens and those brave enough search for parking in the area.
Brix has had a long life. And with the confidence that comes with age is the understanding that you don't have to be tragically trendy to attract a crowd. Brix is elegant and subtle. It doesn't rely on cheap tricks to stay popular. The atmosphere is lures clients but it is the outstanding service and consistently good food that have people coming back. -

Well it was a slow empty Monday night but the soup special though tasty has a scum on the surface because it had been plated to early, with 3 tables in the restaurant this never should have been the case and hunting for the sablefish in the cold sablefish gnocchi is never a good sign of things to come. The service was very good but the kitchen must have had the 4th line in working and they couldn't keep up with the 3 tables' orders. Come on Brix set it up.

After many years of walking by this restaurant and wanting to try it I finally had my opportunity tonight and it was great. We choose to sit in the courtyard area under a nice and toasty heat lamp. Brix feels like it has been around for a while, because it has. It has the confidence and maturity of a place that has been doing well for some time. The decor showcases the beautiful red brick of Yaletown, the warehouse district, made romantic with low lighting and chandeliers. Additionally, Brix has something unique in it's layout, an open-air courtyard that is very romantic. Service is well-honed, and the food is good, and I have a feeling, also very consistent. We shared a lovely salad, mussles with a sour cherry/banana curry sauce, a seafood stew, and a pasta dish - all good. The crowd on Thursday night was a mix of after-work parties and dates, and it was equally appropriate for both. Great, helpful servers and an upscale but relaxed environment. Beautiful outdoor patio, very European.

I was in Vancouver for a few days and setting up a large dinner, agreed that this place was probably a good bet. Better yet, it was "Taste of Yaletown" and the prix fixe was available. After leaving the conference centre, we drove down and got parking just in front of the restaurant in this cute 'hood. The enclosed, brick-walled courtyard was heated and was my pick for our 6pm reservation seating. A few of the seats were sauna-hot, though, and after a few glasses of a lovely local red wine, my seat also started heating up. The risotto appetizer was my pick, because I figured too much creamy rice might not be the healthiest. I followed this with the fish and panna cotta. The dessert was the highlight for me! The light panna cotta with berries and a red sauce was a perfect end to this meal. I probably could have just had that and wine! The fish was decent, but probably not as exciting as the non-prix fixe options. I'd go again and the service was amazing, but order off the regular menu, regardless the cost.
