Olive Fougasse, brioche & all their baguettes are pretty good. All the pastries are very tasty.

We used to buy from them at the San Mateo & Daly City/Serramonte farmers market but there are lots of bees munching on their pastries & their stand. No more Brioche  Bakery at the Farmers Markets for us.

Charming little French bakery. Reasonably priced fare with very nice presentation.

I had the french toast which tasted good though not the usual way (it's dipped in vanilla custard). It had a lot of berries and sugar.

The owner (I presume) was really nice and attentive.

I'd come back for morning breakfast or brunch.

Rho*:  Hey there Carb whatcha doin there not in my tummy?
Carb: Oh hey Rho* I'm all yours baby.  Thought you left me for the meatheads.
Rho*: You are, and always will be, the folds in my tummy, the jiggle in my thighs, the plump in my cheeks.
    Carb: Top or bottom?
    Rho*: Both, darling.  Both.
    Carb:  *dough rises*
Rho*: swooooooon.  You know I'll always knead you.
Carb:  You do give good bread.

Carb and I have been together for a long time.  Carb and I have an open relationship.  Yes, this means you can have yourself some Carb as well.  I will not be Jelly.  Because Jelly is her own person.  Actually, Jelly is great w/Carb too.  We're all a big happy polyamorous bunch.

Today Carb went to Brioche Bakery and spoiled me by playing dress up:

-Almond Croissant filled w/almond paste, baked, dipped in rum, then baked again
    -Cheddar and Garlic Loaf
    -Cheesey buttery toast

Just as expected, Carb did not disappoint.  Always leaves me wanting more.

    I loaf you, Carb.

Making my rounds to all the sweets and bakery shops in the area during my first visit to North Beach, I stopped by Brioche and left with an almond croissant, and plain brioche, to take home to my toaster (I toast everything - it makes even a mediocre pastry just that much better).

Unfortunately, from what I can recall, neither pastry was particularly impressive or memorable. Not bad, certainly, but, assuming you don't mind the wait, you're better off going to Tartine - this, is one of the good parts of Brioche, since there wasn't a single person ahead of me in line that day.

Now, granted, I dropped by sometime in the afternoon, so their tastier pastries may have been sold out by then, or might have just plain been tastier when fresher, so, take this with a grain of salt.

I love this place.  It's across the street from our office, and is one of very few cafe-style lunch places in the neighborhood. The food is always fresh and good value. Great soups, salads and sandwiches.  The owners work hard to keep it tasty, clean and friendly, and the big storefront window faces southwest, so the place is flooded with natural light.  My only complaint is that the portions are too large, but that true of most places these days.

I used to think that brioche just meant a sweet pastry, but Brioche Bakery taught me that it is this round and soft bun, warm and fresh early in the morning.

I really wanted to like it, but as a student and I sat and dissected our breakfast we found it to be just a tad too dry for our liking.

Still, it always smells so good that I'm sure I'll try again.

I have to update my review because the owner actually responded to my review the last time I was in there.  We talked about how I used to work in a coffee shop, and she even asked for recommendations on how to keep the coffee refreshed without wasting it all.  So, Go You, Brioche Bakery, for giving two licks what people are saying about you.  And also, for keeping Diet Snapple Peach Tea in stock ever since I've been asking for it.

The food was fine, nothing superb. Your standard local brunch spot.

Have to say - we got in at 2:55pm (brunch ends at 3pm. I even called to check) and they initially wouldn't serve us brunch. I had a GiltCity deal and had FINALLY planned to get out to North Beach to use it so I begged and begged.. and they finally served us our brunch! Though I was a little iffy on some of the details.. the "pastry" was limited to just the cookies/muffins, not their really fancy looking pastries. (aren't those what theyre known for??"

    * Brioche french toast - 3 stars
(w/ strawberries, strawberry glaze, & raspberries)
This was decent - but the toast was too soft, no crisp to it!

    * Prosciutto sandwich - 3 stars
Fine, average. Like any other prociutto sandwich (hard french bread, just a couple pieces of meat, cheese)

    * Fudge cookie - 3.5 stars
    Nice. Moist, dense, and soft.

    * Chocolate chip muffin - 4 stars
Also really nice, but a little oily.

I walk by Brioche Bakery & Cafe everyday on the way to work and I have to fight every inner gluttonous urge I have to stop by for a freshly baked croissant.

The smell of freshly baked pastries in the morning is such a treat and the plain croissants here are such a light, buttery, and flaky delight. No jam needed for me. I eat the croissants plain and they are just yummy on their own. Lunchtime sandwiches are pretty good too even if you're having a grab and go sandwich. I like the sandwich with the black forest ham and Swiss cheese but the kicker is the fig bread. It's a wonderful combination of flavors. The sweetness of the bread melds with the savory meat and nutty cheese in every bite.

Weekend brunches are a laid back affair here. Unlike other popular brunch places, there is little hustle and bustle here. Take a seat and relax. Be warned if you're trying to rush, this is not the place. Brunch service is slow! But otherwise kick back and enjoy a smoked salmon tartine (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) and ice coffee under the sun if it's a lovely day. It's such a simple open faced sandwich but combination of flavors from the smoked salmon, herbed crème fraîche, shallots, chives, and capers are spot on.

Brioche Bakery & Cafe is cute little French bistro that keeps it simple, but does it right. If you want to slow it down just for a little, stop by to take a breather, have some coffee and pick a pastry. You'll enjoy it before you know it.

Had brunch here today! I found this little gem through a Gilt City deal. You order at the counter and they give you a number. We ordered the Avocado scramble and the eggs Benedict. We also got two pastries and coffee. Everything we had was very tasty...especially the pastries. I appreciated that the brunch items come with fruit as well and we both felt very full after the meal but not super heavy. The owner was very friendly and came by to ensure we enjoyed our meal. The only thing i would change is they did not have jelly available for the toast they provided with the scramble, which we found a bit odd. Other than that great food and nice location.

This is a super cute pastry cafe that I discovered thanks to Gilt City certificates for a delightful Sunday morning brunch with the bf. The selection was only ok because we got there a bit later in the brunch period so they were sold out of a lot of their yummier pastries.

They breads were almost completely gone but I ended up getting some fig bread and it was delightful. They don't really cut it for you but I just inquired if they did and the owner (or I assumed it was the owner...) did it for me anyway! It was very sweet of her. They have pretty good coffee in this small cafe and on a sunny day it looks warm and inviting!

This is cute spot for brunch or lunch and I'd highly recommend their sandwiches and breakfast specials because they were pretty delicious!

Continuing on my hunt for the tastiest almond croissant I found myself at the cross street of the Lunar New Year parade and Brioche Bakery and Cafe.

    Almond croissant here has:
    * Toasted and nutty almonds on top
    * Flaky, buttery and tender insides
    * Just sweet enough almond paste filling

Also tried a blueberry-raspberry-strawberry juice (still not entirely sure what mixture of berries was in there) and MAN that was tangy and dericious. If I come back I'm going after that buttery brioche and a cup of coffee!

If you're a pastry fan in any capacity make the trip out here! It's worth it and you will NOT regret it!!!

Great little cafe with very tasty pastries. It's a nice place to go to people watch. The staff is friendly and the ingredients used are fresh. They have a large array of different breads. They also have a wide selection of salads. Recently they have been updating their menu so it may change from day to day. However, all new menu items I have tried have been quite good!

Each morning of my trip I tried out a different bakery, trying to find one that could hold a candle to the two bakeries I frequent in Austin (Upper Crust and Quack's).  One of my favorite morning pastries is the almond croissant, and according to other reviewers here, this place was supposed to have yummy almond croissants.  Sad to say, I was pretty disappointed.

I asked for an almond croissant, heated up, and a coffee. The croissant wasn't heated through by half.  What is that cold, yellow, slimy stuff inside these things?  What a terribly poor excuse for almond paste/marzipan.  At least the coffee was yummy.

I came here with some friends who wanted to get a light dinner one night in the city.

They got sandwiches while I ordered a small strawberry and almond tart. It was something like $5, and albeit it being pretty tasty, I felt it wasn't worth near that type of money. There are a lot of haute bakeries nearby that price their goods more reasonably than this casual eatery.

I should have just ordered the almond croissant that everyone else here has mentioned.

Stopped by today to cash in my gilt city deal $9 for a cold sandwich, green salad, soda, and cookie.  Was not impressed enough to go back for the same meal paying 40% more.

It does look like I missed the goodies - will plan on going back to grab an almond croissant and coffee next time.

I will say the oatmeal raisin cookie was superb, regular sized cookie for $1.75 though. OUCH?

This cafe is ok... I liked the coffee, but you should take that with a grain of salt since i'm not a huge coffee person. We got some of their croissants (chocolate tasted like it wasn't fresh... yet didn't taste exactly stale. Kinda strange). The almond croissant was pretty good but I liked the one from patisserie Philippe better (SO SAD that they changed hands not too long ago). Nothing stood out too much to me, and I'd stop by if I was in the area but I didn't find it as AH-MAH-ZING as other yelpers.

    Compliments in a list:

    1. My fellow foodie friend shared a giltcity brunch deal with me. Being a spaz that I am, I accidentally bought the "lunch deal" vs. the "brunch deal." I happen to LOVE brunch and was standing there, holding my wrinkled print-out voucher, absolutely devastated that I made that boo-boo. The owner (I think?) behind the counter probably sensed our distress, looked over and kindly suggested that if we didn't find something we liked, there were other choices as a substitute. My friend jumped on this opportunity to ask if I could possibly (out of the kindness of her heart) let me switch my "lunch" voucher into a "brunch" voucher. The owner claimed that was absolutely fine and said all I had to do was pay the difference of the two deals.

I'm sure a lot of places would be willing to do this given this situation...but it's always the attitude of how one handle things that make the biggest difference. From the way the owners here interacted with us, it tells us: this place cares for their customers. Are very down-to-earth. They're probably one of the classic mom n' pop joints that take joy in people enjoying their food than the profit itself.

    2. THE FOOD! I ended up ordering eggs benedict, and it was absolutely scrumptious. Actually, when I ordered the eggs benedict, the owner informed me that they were out of Canadian bacon and asked if it was alright to substitute it with ham or salmon. I picked salmon and she didn't charge extra.

Let me say it again. Down-to-earth. Unpretentious. Makes the food taste even better.

    3. THE COFFEE! I'm not even a coffee drinker, but I ordered a Chai Latte and tried some of my friend's Iced Mocha, and both were really good! Probably my favorite Chai Latte I've had so far. Previously, I always claimed that the Chai from Mandeville Coffee Cart in UCSD was the best...but, sorry, no longer. This one was very rich and aromatic, which might not float some boats; but if you're sensitive to sweetness, I'm sure you can take advantage of their kindness and ask them to lower the sugar level for you.

Plus, the coffee's fair trade. Controversial feature, I know, but seeing how they didn't charge extra for the salmon, I'd like to hope for the best.

    4. THE PASTRIES are really, really good! I got the Raisin Snail (?) and I actually finished it along with my meal. (Yes, I was a little shocked that I ate that much: giant cup of chai, eggs benedict, and a pastry. I had to walk around Chinatown-Powell afterwards to make myself feel better.)

    5. I think the only regret I have was not leaving a tip in the tip jar at the very end. Very uncultured of me, I know. But hopefully someone will listen to my 5-star review. And hopefully I'll find myself around the area in the future, and I'll make up for it then.

I chanced upon the place while walking on Columbus. I was famished after the gym and was excited about the tantalizing array of possibilities that lined the street. Brioche Cafe was amongst the first place that I saw and the charming Parisian atmosphere drew me through its doors.

The cafe is named after the delectable pastry and the place offered several varieties of brioche. I was in the mood for something savory for dinner and the clerk recommended the Niçoise sandwich. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie. I mean, how can one walk out sans any sweets from a bakery? I was told that they make everything in-house in a nearby baking facility.

I was in a hurry so I got the food to-go and chomped on the sandwich as I walked. It felt oddly appropriate that I was gnawing on a phallic sandwich as I passed strip club after strip club. The sandwich was delicious and did not leave me with any regrets for being so decisive and ordering from the first place I saw. The tuna wasn't fishy and as you take more bites and get to the olives and celery bits, it really enhanced the flavor of the sandwich. The chocolate chip cookie was very thin (I wish my cookies spread like that) and crunchy on the outside, but chewy (but still firm in texture) toward the center. It wasn't loaded with massive chunks of chocolate (which I liked) and it's one of the better cookies that I've tried.

I don't know how a gem like this escaped my radar for so long! There were so many tempting options on display (including two varieties of pastilla). I can't wait to go back and try more items. Maybe grab brunch these on a weekend.

Took a late break the other from a meeting and stopped by Brioche.

It's a small little cafe, with 7 tables inside and 3-4 tables outside.

Super friendly service and very clean inside.

I ordered the much-talked about almond croissant and a single latte.

The croissant was super flaky with a generous moist filling inside.
    The latte was richly prepared.

Great place for city watching (people, pets, cars, and an occasional transit bus that literally stops in front of Brioche)

Btw...they play Italian love songs inside, at least when I visited.

    Nice find...cheers!

I got the croque monsieur the first time I came. The brioche bread itself was HEAVEN but otherwise, it seemed pretty un-exciting and overpriced.

The 2nd time I came, I got a pate sandwich.. the bread was way too hard but at least the pate was okay and the salad was good.

However, I think I'm just ordering the wrong things. I still want to give this place a try -- I wanna buy the brioche by itself, try more of the pastries, try their coffees. And not order the sandwiches anymore.. the lasagna looks amazing, and there's this one savory pastry thing that was pretty good here (I have no idea what it's called)

SO for now.. 3 stars because of the range of variety and quality. Just wish it was a bit cheaper for the sandwiches.

Small, quaint, adorable and cute this place will steal your heart at the get gof.  It reminds me of a little Parisian cafe that's warm, welcoming and full of charm.  The pastries are SOOOO GOOOOD and I love the brioche, which is what they are named for.

The coffee is decadent and strong and the environment invites long hours of reading and contemplating while you sip your drink and eat your pastry.

A definite must for an hour of relaxation and to settle that sweet craving you had all day.

I was sad that the pastries were all gone when I came here around lunch time...

So instead I tried some of their tiramisu which was really good! It was extremely moist, and each time I sunk my spoon into the cake, coffee drizzled out onto the plate. It also had flecks of chocolate and nuts in the mousse.

My friends also tried the chicken salad and the prosciutto/pear/avocado sandwich and loved it!

So nice we dined here twice! In a city with so many delicious options to choose from, that's unheard of!

Granola made in-house and piled high with fresh strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries (!!!) satisfied my need for a healthy, gluten-free breakfast, while my husband's French Breakfast gave me the chance to indulge myself in a few bites of crusty, chewy, bready goodness (followed quickly by some antacids to save myself the future pain).

During my stay in the North Hotel in San Francisco where breakfast wasn't available we had to find a place to have breakfast during our three nights stay. Luckily across the street we found this cosy spot.

It has the best breakfast: brioche, croque monsieur, sandwiches, cereals with yoghurt and fruit, muffins, other delicious pastries, fresh orange juice and more! Everything you can wish for before starting a long day of shopping or (as we did) biking in SF.
You can decide for yourself how expensive you'll make it: if you don't have that much to spend you can just take a croissant with cheese and a coffee, a croque monsieur and a fresh oranje juice costed me 13 dollars so that was a bit more expensive. However: one of the best croque monsieurs i'd ever had so pretty much worth it!:)

    Two notes:
You cannot miss the mustache of the waiter.

The place has free wifi, so while enjoying a cup of coffee you can also do some research on what to do that day in SF or maybe do some work.

The staff is very friendly.. It has limited seating inside; but there are places to sit outside, too.  I haven't tried non-sweet items; but these are my thoughts on the sweet stuff:

    - Gelato:  I assumed that because of its location, the gelato would be good.  Ahem.. no.  I only ate about 2/3 of my chocolate gelato and I had to dump the rest.  I prefer Ciao Bella gelato.
    - Triple chocolate cake:  Ok.. not a fan of the light chocolate and the texture.
    - Lava cake:  It was really dense, but it was chocolaty which I looove.

I'll have to try the sandwiches/tartines to have a more well-rounded review.

At the advice of other Yelpers, I went for the almond croissant. Not the best I've ever had, but still very good.

My only complaints are that the table I sat at was a bit dirty, and my glass of milk had a few small hairs on the rim - gross. Maybe their dishwasher was broken that day or something.

Slightly better-than-average prices for the city, decent service, decent food... overall decent cafe :)

We visited for brunch last weekend, sat outside and enjoyed a nice meal.
We each ordered different coffees and were pretty happy with the preparation.  We had the following:
Avocado scramble w/ lamb sausage- very good
    Smoked salmon tartine- very good
    French toast- excellent

Service was fine and when in the neighborhood we'd definitely return.

It's the end of March, it's 77 degrees (30 degrees above my hometown!), it's sunny, and I have the day off -- Qu'on mange de la brioche!

A little piece of springtime in Paris (with some Moroccan flair), this spot is ideal for:
     (1) people-watching (lots of sharp FiDi suits & skirts...oh là là!).
     (2) enjoying pastries with unadvisably high butter content
(croissants, briwats, and pain aux raisins, oh my!).
     (3) getting your vitamin D on while sipping du café outside.
     (4) surfing the Google on free Interwebs.
     (5) generally living up la vie en rose.

    Bon appétit!

My only experience with Brioche Bakery is at the San Mateo Farmers Market every Saturday.  They have a huge booth set up with pastries and bread.  I head for the pastries.  Mmmmm.  Their prices are a little on the high side.  But this is my sugar fix and I need it man!  So far I've tasted their bread pudding, chocolate croissants, flan, sugar roll and eclair.  I'm bad I'm telling you.  It is all good, but it is not super sweet tasting like frosting from Costco.  It is a light sugar I can't describe it.  But this is one of my happy places I like to visit once a week.

One of the best cappuccinos we have ever had in our lives! The baguettes were so fresh with crusty outsides and warm moist insides! I had the nicoise sandwich and it was so so so so good! Definitely going back!

This is for their stand at the Castro Farmer's mkt. I've been to the retail cafe, but they have almost none of the great stuff from the market, so I've not gotten anything there.

Oh Brioche, you are the reason I walk 5 miles RT to the Castro Farmer's mkt. I LOVE YOU!  I love your cheese toasts (though I no longer eat them, read on if you'd like to know why...), the pretzels,  the olive bread, the surprise stuff that appears and I don't know what it is but I want it, the cinnamon twists, the chocolate scone things...I have not had one thing I did not like.  Most of what I've had, I love.  It's a problem.  Oftentimes I buy one thing, eat it while buying produce, and go back and buy another before I leave the market. And it's gone within blocks. Damn.

About those cheese toasts- I used to rush there to get one before they sold out. But no longer. Why? Well, one, I always got heartburn and queasy after eating it.  And two, I decided to ask one day (jokingly) which was healthier- the toast or a ham and cheese croissant.  The guy said the croissant. I asked why, and he seemed hesitant to tell me. I persisted. That cheese toast, which I obviously knew was greasy, had WAY more fat than even I suspected. If you've had one, you know how oily they are. Well, apparently before they melt that crapload of tasty cheese on top, they brush the bread very liberally with mayonnaise, or rather aioli (what's the difference?).  That would explain the heavy feeling I got after eating it, and the heartburn.  Well, I've had to let that one go. But there's plenty of other amazingly tasty treats to buy. Too many.

I took my BFF there when she came to visit and she got some thing that was basically flaky/puff pastry (like croissant) layered with butter and sugar. It was like eating a butter pie. No, that's not right, it was like eating a really dense, sweet, buttery cloud. Holy crap. Obscene. Obscenely good, that is.

I wish they'd carry some of those fancy treats at the cafe, which is only a 20 minute walk from me. But I should be grateful that they don't.

The proscuitto, pear, and avocado sandwich here is fantastic.

The croissants are also good.  I like their chocolate croissant.
