We go here once in a while for a change of pace. They have a lot of beers and a pretty good menu.
the food isn't bad but I genarally stick to the fish and chips, burgers etc.
I like it that it is usually not too busy and they send out freebies if you are on the mailing list.
The wi-fi is free you just have to ask for the password -

I decided to try the Clayton Park location because I had received a free entree for my birthday and I love getting free stuff! Join the mailing list on their website to get the same deal for yourself.
I have been to their other location but this was my first visit to the one in Clayton Park. The restaurant is nicely decorated inside, dark wood with bright coloured booths, it looked like it might be newly done to me, maybe they had a recent renovation? The way this place is presented from the outside in a strip mall looks like it wouldn't be so large inside but it's very spacious. One thing I noticed was that the lights were dim and because the place was mostly empty it looked a bit dark and eerie.
The place was almost empty when we got there at 6:30pm which always makes me nervous when I visit a restaurant but we sat down and ordered the nachos (added chicken) and steak with mash and veggies.
The nachos were decent, nothing special, what I was expecting and it was a large portion. The steak was cooked medium rare as I like it, the mash was VERY garlic-y (but you might like that) and the veggies were ok. I didn't have any room for dessert.
It wasn't spectacular but it wasn't at all disappointing either, I'll probably eat there again, especially if I get another free entree coupon! -

We went to Brewdebakers on a Saturday. It wasn't our first choice, but we went to another restaurant that was too full, and it was snowing, so we decided not to go much further.
The service was initially good. Our order got taken quickly and drinks were brought. And then we waited, and waited, and waited...
Eventually we got our food, and it was good, although not outstanding. I had fish and chips, and my fiance had a burger and fries. The fish was very greasy, although I suppose it's to be expected. Overall there wasn't really anything wrong, it was just very underwhelming. -

Went to Brewdebakers on Thursday night, as we had no food and didn't feel like finding any to cook with, I'd seen previous reviews on here but the lure of half price apps and $3 draft beers (every sun-thurs) and a $10 off and entree coupon from my entertainment book was too much to pass up on. I figured hey, at the least if i don't like it i won't go back, and i'll have had some cheap beer and apps to boot. I have to say i was not disappointed. I can't say enough how nice it was to find a place that had beer specials on tap that aren't Keith's, don't get me wrong, i don't mind Keith's, but at the same, in the city of Keith's its nice to have some variety out there. So i had some good beer for cheap, I'm liking this place, so far we have a good (smiling) waiter named Trevor who was friendly and attentive. We ordered a plate of the voodoo chicken as an app and it was quite tasty, a little bit spicy but good (especially for $5) I had the Rodeo burger which consists of swiss cheese, mushrooms and bbq sauce on the burger, with a side of kettle chips, all was very good. I have absolutely no complaints about my meal, it was all seemingly hand made and not of the frozen variety, which is such a relief to see after all the frozen stuff that comes out of restaurants these days. So i have to say, it was a good visit, with good food, good service and at a nice price, i will most definitely be returning to Brewdebakers.

we went to Brewdebaker's on Friday evening for dinner at their location on Lacewood drive near Sobey's.
We were greeted at the door by the host and he was friendly and showed us to our table quickly. Our server was quick, competent and friendly.
I had the sesame voodo sticks to start and I found them very good and tasty. The people with me thought they were a bit too spicy but I found them good. Usually, I don't like spicy foods. I thought the price was reasonable at $9.99 for this app.
For my main I ordered the Brisket and Ribs with fries. I have to say I wasn't pleased with this dish at all. The ribs were tasty but dried out. I couldn't help thinking I was eating heated food from a bag (and maybe it was). The brisket was underwhelming; it was tasteless and had this strange sauce all over it that was really unappealing. But the fries were cooked properly and tasted good. The dish came with side of vegetables, which was a nice touch. I found the portion size adequate, but honestly the brisket ruined the whole dish. Finally, I thought the asking price for this main at $19.99 was highway robbery for the quality and taste.
The decor in this restaurant was sparse and I found the place a bit uninviting. One of the people with me was complaining that she was too cold, but maybe this was because she was sitting next to the window.
All in all, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good but I wouldn't waste my appetite at this restaurant and I didn't feel I got good value for my money. -

Not the best food in the world but when I asked them to get pickles for their burgers they did! But then they stopped serving Coke Zero which was one of the reasons we would go there over another generic restaurant.
Last time we went my friend's salad had sand in it. The lettuce wasn't properly washed. Yech.
Service is fine but not always quick. -

I'm surprised to read so many less than enthusiastic reviews of this restaurant, because I've always had good experiences.
Let's be clear - Brewdebaker's is not a place I'd go out of my way to visit. If I was going out with friends for a delicious dinner, I could list ten or twenty places off the top of my head that I'd prefer.
But I work right around the corner from Brewdebaker's, and I do think it's a great place to grab lunch on a weekday. In the five or so times I've eaten at this location, the service has always been prompt and friendly. Always. Amazingly so. As for the menu, it's adequate. I love the Cesar salad, and their lunchtime half-a-pizza and salad combo is a great option. If the pizza of the day happens to be pepperoni, they'll gladly make you a vegetarian option instead.
Sure, it's not a place I'd bring out of town friends. But when a co-worker and I want to grab lunch and gossip, it's one of our favorite places in the Clayton Park area. -

So, went to Brewdebakers for lunch today with a bunch of coworkers. I have to say, I don't think I'll be going back. The service was slow and utterly inattentive. Server brought out entrees to the table I was sitting at with two people and failed to bring cutlery. So we asked. And she disappeared. It wasn't until we caught another server that we got knives and forks, while our meals cooled. I ordered fish & chips and it was nowhere near worth the price, which I believe was $11.99. In fact, I'm pretty sure that I got High Liner fish sticks. Not what I was looking for at all.
That wasn't even the worst thing - some of the people there didn't even get their meals in a timely fashion and simply had to leave. Not exactly a good way to run a restaurant during the lunch rush. If you're lunching in Clayton Park West, consider Cora's or Applebee's instead. -

If you're looking for mediocre food at twice the price, you may just want to try Brewdebakers Tap & Grill. If you're really a glutton for punishment, you'll also enjoy the medley of shrieking children and bad 80's music.
Admittedly, I was pleasantly surprised upon my arrival at Brewdebakers. Its skeezy pub outer-shell hides a well decorated, hip, albeit dark interior. The walls and floor were a rich shade of brown, the blinds all drawn and the lights dimmed, giving the appearance of a stylish cave. Not unlike how I picture Martha Stewart's prison cell.
I was whisked away by a pleasant enough hostess to an area fondly referred to as "The Dungeon." Although this spot was private, it was also a gloomy, ill-lighted, windowless pit. One could immediately see why it was the least crowded section.
I received an over-rehearsed greeting from a phony waitress, appropriately, clad all in black. The menu contained your standard pub fare, although I was quite intrigued by their "famous" Sesame Seed Voodoo Sticks.
While waiting on my food, I was subjected to a playlist consisting of about ten songs all by one hit wonders from 1984. Much to my chagrin, the playlist was on repeat. After my third time hearing Africa by Toto, my food arrived. The so called famous Voodoo Sticks were simply chicken nuggets on sticks, slathered in a generic "Asian" sauce. So basically, for half the price you can go to your local Wendy's and get the Spicy Asian boneless wings. I suggest doing this to curb any voodoo stick cravings you might have.
If you're into wings, you're out of luck. Ten dollars only buys you four and with only two sauces to choose from, you might be left wanting. The calamari was rubbery; however, the spinach and artichoke dip was creamy and delicious.
The main course, pan fried haddock, was just okay. The presentation was lacking. My Jasmine rice, once a proud, spherical mound, was left half-fallen apart in messy clumps. The haddock was burned on one side and yet somehow managed to be slightly wet on the other. For dessert, I had a delightful Brownie Explosion, a large bowl of ice cream with brownies, chocolate sauce, nuts and a cherry. Fit for two people. I ate the whole damn thing by myself.
Brewdebaker's boasts its own brand of Red and Honey Brown beers. In reality, it's just lager that wasn't good enough to be sold under the Sleeman's name. All the same, I would have enjoyed my beer had it not been delivered so late because the bartenders were too busy waiting on their own sections to actually bartend. That may save on hiring more waitresses, but it slows down the dining process and, frankly, it's just cheap.
Just an aside, I think it's bad enough that the waitress interrupted my meal ten times to ask how everything was, but when I saw a large, jovial man lumbering towards me to heartily pat me on the back and harass me during my meal, I was done. This supposed manager's quality check was unnecessary, intrusive and just plain bizarre.
Overall, it was an all right affair. By far, not my worst dining experience, but simply not on par with other local restaurants. Especially when you take the outrageous prices into consideration. My recommendation? Head across the street to Applebee's Grill and Bar, it's wonderful! You can't go wrong with half price drinks and appetizers after eight o'clock. -

I never really thought about why I hadn't heard much about this restaurant. My experience last week certainly made me realize why.
My one and only experience at Brewdebakers wasn't a great one. I guarantee I will never visit this restaurant again. I had to wait more than 10 minutes just to get a menu. Then once we placed our order, I wanted more than 1/2 hour for our food. We were literally ready to get up and walk out when I noticed our incredibly rude waitress bringing our food.
The food wasn't anything that I would write home about. I got a salad to start and the lettuce tasted old. I ordered a hamburger platter for my main course and the bun tasted like it had been frozen and thawed more than once. I did enjoy the few french fries that I did eat and the glass of water that I got when I first ordered my meal. I was never asked if I wanted a refill, so I had to only take small sips...especially because my waitress didn't come back to my table to ask if I wanted a refill.
I don't see myself returning for another meal. -

One of the best places to eat in the Lacewood, Halifax area!
Brewdebaker's is surprisingly good. First off, the staff are incredible! They aren't just friendly and good at their job but they go above and beyond. I was looking for a free wireless signal and found one but didn't know why I wasn't connecting using my iphone. The Waitress, Ashley, who was incredible all around did everything she could to troubleshoot the problem. Turns out in the end, iphone's don't work with their wireless signal. Laptops, on the other hand can connect fine. Not sure what that is all about but I really appreciated the effort Ashley made to solve or find out what the problem is.
I asked for Decaf coffee, I'm trying to quit, and I was shocked because they put time and care into their decaf! It's not instant and takes about thirty seconds to prepare. Oh and it is the best I've ever had!
I ordered the Nachos which were pretty good. I would rate them as average. I liked the idea that they tried to change their style of nacho making by adding onions which did help bring out the flavor. However it just wasn't that appealing after a few chips. I would recommend doing a special set of spices to bring out more flavor in the nachos instead of onions.
The desert list is incredible and very well done as well. Another amazing thing I found out was that they wipe the tables with an antibacterial cleaner. Not just a wet dishcloth like many restaurants. So this place doesn't just look clean, it is clean!
The staff really make this place stand out. They are friendly, funny, helpful and very quick on their feet. A special kudos goes out to Ashley who deserves all the tips she gets and more! Their pricing is the same as everywhere else, perhaps cheaper in some areas. The environment is very nice and in the Lacewood area which is convenient since I live in the same area.
This can, at times be a family style restaurant or just a nosey place but I can't criticize the customer's that come since the restaurant has little control over that. And why wouldn't everyone from good to bad want to come in? Everyone loves great service and this place has it! -

The first time I went here, I have to say would have been the worst experiences I have ever had.
I had ordered a pizza (which is no longer on the menu) and apparently it was an oil based pizza which is what made it really disgusting. I'm not someone to complain but I had to. The waitress had no problem bringing it back and asking me if I wanted something else instead. I ordered the chicken club with sweet potato fries (awesome by the way).
I think it was the owner who came out and sat next to me to find out why I didn't like the pizza, and I explained it to him, and he said not to worry and that I wasn't going to be charged for the pizza.
They are a little on the price side, but overall, if I had not received that good service my first time, I would never of gone back. -

There isn't anything too great I can say about this place. The food isn't that great, the service is a little slow and the prices aren't good enough to make up for the former.
The atmosphere in Brewdebaker's is a little eerie. It's pretty dark and doesn't have a whole lot of windows. Perhaps they're going for the casino-feel and they don't want their customers to know it's getting late... or rather early. It just doesn't have the most enticing environment to it.
The food that our group enjoyed was quite a disappointment. If it wasn't cold then it wasn't right. Luckily, our waitress didn't seem too peeved when we sent a couple dishes back. I had ordered a soup with my meal and didn't receive it, and my boyfriend ordered fries but got a salad instead. They took it back and brought the right stuff out, but it was too late. We already weren't pleased with the food.
Overall not my favourite place in Halifax. It might have been an off night for the staff, which is unfortunate because now my mind is made up about the place.
