On a whim one Saturday morning we decided to try ceramics. Completely inexperienced with no expectations we headed to Brendas Paint Pot (Crank Pots on Whyte seems to have a really bad reputation so we chose to avoid it).
The ceramics studio is low key, filled with diverse molds (I chose a bumble bee, my other half chose a sports car), and the staff is very helpful. We had a blast and went back several times since then.
The owner is there most days and she offers various workshops on ceramics and glass! The prices range from very low to very high which allows people with varying budgets to paint! -

Located in the heart of Clareview with easy access off the Yellowhead 50th street exit!
Brought my Mom here with a Groupon for a Fused Glass Project that I purchased two of (one for her and one for me) for my Mom's birthday.
The owner, Brenda, was super helpful and very informative & it's always nice to support a local business owner.
She allowed up to upgrade our projects and pay extra to do a larger project and to slump (shape the glass). I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of glass in both colours and textures available! She had large sheets, various sizes of spaghetti shaped glass, odds & ends, as well as glass sprinkles in dozens and dozens of colours! Nothing was off limits - we were welcome to use any combination of the glass she had in the store!
We came on a Sunday, as she only does Fused Glass classes on Sundays. Her shop is filled with all sorts of ceramics and projects to try! They are closed on Mondays & Tuesday.
If you are considering bringing a child to Brenda's Paint Pot, I would recommend doing a ceramics project rather than fused glass. There are many sharp pieces/edges and the process is very specific - with many steps.
I am excited to pick up our finished plates once they have one through their firing processes!
I plan on brining my toddler back to Brenda's Paint Pot in a year or two when she can sit still - maybe we'll do the cliche handprint on a mug or plate for Father's Day or a present for Gramma.
I've uploaded a pic of my glass plate in progress in the shop. I will upload a completed one when I get it back after firing & slumping! -

I used to do a lot of art when I was younger - well, for most of my life actually - but sadly haven't been doing much lately. One day I got a coupon in my email for Brenda's Paint Pot and decided to go for it. Making an appointment over the phone was easy and she had lots of times open.
I didn't really know what to expect as I hadn't painted anything at a potter studio before. She has a selection of pre-made ceramic molds, some plain bowls, mugs and the like, and lots of things in shapes - piggy banks, bears, cartoon characters, etc. You pick what you like (all individually priced), and then head over to the paint samples where you pick out the colours you would like, and as many as you want. Sit down at one of the few tables and start painting. If you're not sure of what you would like to do, Brenda has put together an idea book, and she's also there to give guidance or even help you pick colours that would look nice together. The environment was pretty mellow and chill. There were a couple of people in there that were obviously regulars working on some pieces.
We chose to do wide bowls, and after about an hour and a half of glazing we were finished. You will get a slip with the date on it that your pieces need to be picked up by. She will not call you to remind you, and after a certain amount of time (can't remember), they will be gone. Two weeks later we went to pick them up our bowls and they turned out great!
This is an activity I really enjoyed and could definitely see myself doing again. Brenda also offers a range of classes, including a glasswork one that I'm interested in checking out. -

Brenda's rocks! If you're interested in glazing some pottery, this is the best place in the city to go. They're friendly, helpful, and there's always a good conversation going on. Good for kids, good for adults, and right next door to Jaks, so you can grab a bubble-tea to sip while you paint! I've gone five or six times, and I'm completely satisfied!
