Having a good dry cleaner's is as important to me as having a trustworthy mechanic! Boyd's Cleaners is absolutely the very best dry cleaner's I have ever used. I only recently discovered Joe Boyd through Juul Haalmeyer. Juul is one of this country's leading costume suppliers for film and television. Once a year Juul lends us some costumes for an annual event we put on and all he expects from us is to have them cleaned after use. Juul told me that all the who's who take their high end clothing to Boyd's for dry cleaning TLC. The COC and Malabar's also send their really valuable costumes to Boyd's for cleaning and repairs.
Joe Boyd and his lovely wife have been running Boyd's for 40 years now. Joe will regale you with funny stories about everyones clothing from Anne Murray's stage pieces to the sequined gowns of the top drag queens in Toronto. Joe really shows the clothing the TLC it deserves. He inspected several of my evening dresses and suggested that he only clean in certain areas as not to disturb the integrity of the beading and sequins (no, I'm not a wannabe Carmen Miranda) but that he would just freshen and steam the rest of the dress.
What I also really liked is that the plastic they use over top of your clothing is biodegradable. I also couldn't help to notice that Boyd's didn't reek of that horrid dry cleaning smell that tells you chemicals abound. I'm not totally sure you'll find any dry cleaner in the city who is completely "green" but Boyd's is about as close as you'll come.
Finally when was the last time your dry cleaner helped you out to your car with your clothing? The last two times I've been in to Boyd's to pick up my armful of clothing Joe has helped me out to my car and actually even hung up the shirts on the hook in my backseat. That is good service. Pricing for dry cleaning here is comparable with anywhere else (other than Gibson's....which is exorbitant!) that I've gone to. -

Do you own something you absolutely love and was worth the pretty penny you paid for it..... bring it here. It will be treated with love and given back to you better than you brought it in. The prices are a bit higher, but guaranteed the best in the business.... been going there for 20 years for my better pieces. Worth it..worth it... worth it.
