This place is so cool! They sell lots of local brands and have a huge variety of groceries, it's bigger than you'd think it would be at first glance and you can get just about everything here.
Make sure to try the samosas, they're really tasty. My boyfriend is literally obsessed with them and gets 5 everytime we're on Elgin. -

Boushey's used to be my last resort when I had to buy anything while living on Elgin. It's not that I didn't want to support them it's just that I found a lot of their product expensive...almost Murray's Market expensive and that place went under.
It's a bad ass little store that has a lot of local produce but for a large price. They have a large selection of herbs, spices and vegetables that are hard to find in a single store in Ottawa. They also have a lot of items to fill out your pantry. The pantry items are slightly higher priced than supermarket prices but not by much.
They have a neat cooler selection with samasos and all kinds of sauces and pre-made food. They also have fresh squeezed orange juice for $4 or $5 a pop. It's delicious and they always somehow manage to find the sweetest oranges...or just load up the juice with sugar. -

I went by Boushey's one morning between errands to grab a coffee and snack.
First I browsed of course, they have a great selection of fruits and vegetables, some items that you won't find in other supermarket.
The coffee here is inexpensive (just $1) and decent Van Houtte coffee, so still decent. The best thing was that since I was there fairly early in the morning, there were lots of large freshly baked muffins on the counter. Try the one with dates and bran in it! It was delicious and a great change from raisin bran. I asked the person who served me and he said they were baked in-house.
Very friendly service and several other people were picking up coffees, so this is obviously a popular morning spot! -

Most people who live in Centretown will tell you that the area has few grocery options. There is one on Bank Street and another near the 417and that's it.
Boushey's fills at least part of that void in that the store offers a large fruit and vegetable selection. The building is quite old with low ceilings and packed shelfs but many of the items outside of the fruit and veggie department are a bit pricey.
Boushey's does have a lot of specialty items you can't get at other stores like their huge selection of teas and pickled items.
The staff are friendly and have built a rapport with the local shoppers and other business owners.
Parking is limited to just a couple of spots on the side of the building but most patrons just walk or park on the street and run in for whatever it is they need.
