Review from Nyssa R.
This place has an AMAZING set up. Absolutely phenomenal, probably the best I've ever seen to be honest. There are pool tables, fooseball tables, VLT's, TV's set up in awesome locations, great roomy booths, the bar is set up in a perfect location, and the menu and food (quality & price) is AMAZING! Honestly when you walk in you feel like this is the place to be. I would love to give this place 5 stars just for the set up.They have amazing drink specials and food specials daily as well, it can turn out being a very cheap night for food and alcohol.
However... I can't because the front of house staff does not match the exceptional setup.
The positive things they did:
-Inform us of drink/food specials
-Admit to confusing two similar named entries in the system and punching in the wrong order
The negative things they did:
-Mess up multiple orders, though writing them down. Apologized but still "sold" them to the table
-Our server was pretty nice, just a little flustered, but the people who came out to bring food were very rude, rolling their eyes at the confusion over the food we hadn't ordered, tried to push the food into our hands so they could get back to what they were doing though they weren't busy that night
-We stated we had a serious seafood allergy. Server didn't acknowledge the allergy but indicated "no shrimp" in the order. Allergies usually require an alert in the kitchen so that no cross contamination occurs however they didn't take that precaution even though we specified more than just "no seafood". When they messed up our order they gave us other food and didn't specify the allergy
-No drink refills, unless requested
-Confusion over who ordered what on the final bill (extra drinks, extra food). Unnecessarily arduous process. Not very nice about it
-Forgot drinks
Overall I felt more like an inconvenience at this restaurant than a valued diner. I've worked in the industry enough to know when a table is being a pain in the butt or not, so I felt we were fairly gracious despite all the mess ups and didn't ask for more than a normal table would. I think they need to spend a little more time on the hiring process, I definitely had a very negative feel from all the front of house staff at this restaurant. It could be a really hot spot if they could have consistent servers, like I see a lot of people have mentioned already. As an ex server I was fairly horrified by the level of care that every front of house member we dealt with gave. For service, I would have to give this place 1 star... but the layout and lounge/bar itself are so amazing and have so much potential I will give it 3 stars, because I encourage people to go for sporting events, just don't expect good service. Even the person handing out change for the VLT's was rude and impossible to track down. Having worked at busy bars downtown I can say the ratio of servers to people was not low enough that the service should have been so horrendous.Comment from Dan R. of Bootlegger's Sports Bar & Karaoke Lounge 7/14/2011

I went here for the Stanley cup finals. The server in the front was horrible. She wouldn't seat us and there were so many empty tables. Luckily we got a seat with some other friends there. We did find out that it was wings night and $3.75 hi-balls. We ordered 50 wings for $.25 each and they had like 20 different flavors too. The downside was you have to wait 45 min for them. The Wings were pretty good but too bad they gave us to many drumlets.
The whole interior was renovated, it's much more chic than the last time I was there. I had a good time and would definitely hang out here again for some cheap wings.Comment from Dan R. of Bootlegger's Sports Bar & Karaoke Lounge 7/14/2011

My friends and I used to come to this place quite often up until recently. At the end of the night they tried to pin us with someone elses bill. My friends and I all knew what we had drank and paid for them as always and as the bar cleared they tried to tell us we had to pay for this mysterious unpaid bill or they were going to call the cops. 5 or 6 staff members surrounded our table and were very rude and me being the type of person who stands up for herself refused to pay for this bill. They kicked my friends and I out and told us never to return, not before one the of bouncers pushed me.. like WHO PUSHES A GIRL!?
I beleive that the waitress needs to keep better track of who is coming and going and if at the end of the night notices an unpaid bull from someone who skips out, SHE should be the one to pay for it. It was not the responsibility of myself or my friends to pay because she wasnt paying attention.
BEWARE when going here.. the stafff really doesnt care about there customers and are willing to lose a few for a couple of bucks... rediculous!! -

Stopped in here after a grocery shop for some wings. Turns out they don't do wing nights on Sundays anymore, but we stayed anyways and had chicken bites.
What are Chicken Bites you may ask... they are something that is bland, tasteless, but cheap. Not quite a substitute for wings.
We've been here a few times before as well... Your whole eating experience depends on who the server is and how they're feeling that day. We've had great service, we've had poor service. We've had really great steak sandwiches, we've had cold, chewy tasteless steak sandwiches. It's really a toss of the coin with Bootleggers.
Overall, it'll do in a pinch, but this experience with with "Chicken Bites" was probably one of our last times there. -

Bootlegger's is definitely the pinnacle of wing joints in all of Calgary. With 50 world famous flavors these wings are a-must have for any hardcore wing fan. Not only do they have a huge selection of flavours, including the "infamous" Bubble-Gum, but they don't have it in stock yet, but it is on the menu. They do offer various specials on certain nights. Thursday is the All You Can Eat (AYCE) wing night for only a measly 10 dollars. On Sundays and Wednesdays they offered wings for an acceptable price of 25 cent each. They even offer 25 cent ribs on Mondays, unfortunately, their 19 cent wings on Mondays have gone extinct like the dinosaurs.
Bootlegger's wouldn't be Bootlegger's without having complete amateurs singing various songs by Rick Astley and the Spice Girls on weekends. Reviewer's Note: Thursday is hands down professional night. Beware with caution. I've even witnessed cliental, get up and start grinding up against anything then can find when Lady Gaga karaoke comes on.
Not a karaoke fan? Well, they have tons of televisions with every major sporting event broadcasting and a couple pool tables for patrons to blow off steam. Service is quick most of the time, however there have been the occasional nights when they have been short staffed.
I will continue to be a recurring customer. That is until I find a better wing joint. I seriously doubt that will ever happen. -

I've been hearing about Bootlegger's from various sources for years, but had not been compelled to visit until this holiday season. A bunch of friends were meeting for Karaoke on a Sunday night. I was late, and on my way in I was greeted by a group of several people that I hadn't seen in a while. Who knew Bootlegger's could be so popular?
The bar was split into two: the main area, with a traditional bar, TVs and drink specials, and the karaoke area which was sequestered away in another room. The room could probably easily fit 50 people, which makes it bigger than some karaoke places I know anyways. The lady running the karaoke was super friendly and really into it, and some staff came into sing songs. They seemed like they were having a good time. The same could not be said for our server, who seemed pretty stressed out. She kept forgetting drink orders.
The stories I have heard about Bootlegger's is that it can get pretty crazy, but on this Sunday at least things were pretty relaxed. It could have been a sports bar anywhere. The location is decently far from transit, which is a little annoying if you don't want to drive or cab it, and it is deep in the North East. -

There is always a bit of a wait on wing night and getting a refill is a little hard? They are both worth the wait with hot chicken wings and cold beer.
I do wish they would have some way of labeling the wings as the wait staff put them on the table ream of what you have and run to the next table.
People try the nachos!!!!! Best ever if you get the one chef that does them perfect! We have had them several times, one or twice not the best!Comment from Dan R. of Bootlegger's Sports Bar & Karaoke Lounge 8/11/2011
