This place can be a little overwhelming as there are so many books but the nice thing, compared to other used book stores, is it is easy to browse through and find a section you are looking for. The owner can come across as cranky but he is very helpful. He has helped me get my hands on a few books that I can't find in any other store. He is willing to take your name and number and keep an eye out for a book you are looking for.

Interesting window display + piles of books + eccentric/cranky owner = a pretty fair little used bookstore. Booktown carries a pretty good stock of fiction, plus they have lots of vintage cookbooks, which I collect. If you come in off the street, it looks like a small shop, but there is actually a whole basement floor as well. With that old book smell, and partially lit atmosphere, it's sort of creepy and reminds me of the old UBC Main Library stacks.
I do always enjoy the display at the bottom of the stairs with photos and notes found inside some of the books.
However, the owner can be a bit cross for my taste. One time I was there with a friend, and he was obviously annoyed that we were talking as we browsed. Another time, I brought in some books I didn't want any more, and he practically threw them aside. The selection at Booktown is good, but not so great that I'll put up too much with those quirks.
