Review from Iris L.
I immediately loved the atmosphere the moment i walked in. Brooding, buttery, and lush.
Started the night with the Green Eyed Devil cocktail - absolutely dreamy and fresh. Then enjoyed the veal tongue with bacon jam and perfectly fried 6 masters egg. Everything felt like it was melting on my tongue. I completely cleared the plate. Proceeded with an order of the Roman Holiday cocktail which will take you back to a hot summer day. And topped off my savoury night with duck breast, ginger apple dumplings, shimijis, quail egg, & ginger hollandaise dish. Everything was skillfully cooked and in perfect ratio to one another.
This is a MUST.
And next time, i'm ordering the bread and butter because it smelled like a bakery exploded when the couple next to us cut into their little loaf. -

If you are allergic to nuts, don't go here. Also, if you like a great dining experience, you're probably better suited to go elsewhere.
Before ordering, I asked our server if there was anything to avoid, due to my nut allergy. She checked with the kitchen, came back and told us that we could eat anything on the menu, but 'probably stay away from the dessert, as we don't make it in house and can't guarantee anything'.
The first course was served with a hazelnut-based salsa verde (weird). The server apologized (and was quite nice/embarrassed about the whole thing). They didn't offer to take the plate away, and my wife finished some of it.
We were charged for that course and experienced some very slow/mediocre service after that.
After that first course, the experience was not pleasant.
The dessert arrived (for my wife), with almonds on shortbread, and a fingerprint on the chocolate.
I know other people seem to like this place, but I really wouldn't go back. The food we got was fine, but nothing that I would miss out on. This city is awesome for eating out, so there are quite literally hundreds of places I would rather go. -

The food was alright. I've had better at other restaurants. The atmosphere was really nice but the service was not very good. The hostess was not very helpful and almost rude. I had booked this reservation over a month ago for 6ppl and on the day of one of my girlfriend could not make it so I told them it will only be 5ppl earlier that day. When we got there they gave us a 4 person table and just added another setting on one side. So I told her that this is too tight and won't fit. The hostess then says that's our normal table for 5ppl so it should fit. We are 5 asian ladies and I'm pretty sure if we think it's tight that table is not their normal 5 ppl sitting. Told her that this is unexceptable and she said there's nothing she can do because she can't give us our original table back. She said the best she can do is put the extra setting on the end of the table. She then said to us that we only have 1.5 hr before we have to give the table to the next reservation.
I will not go back there again. I can't believe I paid for this kind of service!!! -

Two words: UH MAZING.
This was one of the best meals I've had in my life, and I've had a lot of great meals. Everything from the atmosphere to the service to the food to the wine/cocktail list was simply amazing.
It's a really cool space, with sexy lighting and high ceilings, good for either a romantic date night or a group outing. We had about 5 different people helping us, each of whom were extremely friendly and welcoming. When they had messed up on one of our main courses, causing it to be slightly delayed, they apologized profusely and not only took the item off the bill (which I didn't even think was necessary), but also brought us two complimentary glasses of champagne. Suffice to say I made up for it in tips, since I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
For food, we shared everything, which is worth doing here, so you get to try some of everything. We had the baked break with salted butter (warm and delicious), the local lettuces salad with apple, hemp seeds & cheddar (put most other salads to shame), the gnocchi with bacon and a poached egg (unique and perfectly cooked), the scallops with squash, brussel sprouts & bacon hollandaise (yes please), and the pork loin with yam & sour cream perogies & wild mushrooms (best pork I've ever tasted). And then, against our better judgment, we got the apple tarte tartin for two...thinking that we would be taking most of it home for breakfast...until we rationalized just eating the entire thing then and there ("It's too amazing all warm and flaky to eat cold tomorrow").
I can't recommend this place enough. There are a lot of great restaurants in Vancouver, but next time I visit, I think I'm going to need to eat here twice. -

I am going to start with: ...I guess It happens!
I had big expectations since all the good reviews here, but I was very disappointed. They were bad everywhere. Bad service, bad selection, bad food...
I am sure all the good review aren't lying, but this one isn't either.
My personal experience was bad.
The fish tasted like sausage, but hard core.
The poutine was 'not special'
The service was bad.
The prices were high.
The beer was nice and cold.
The 'hidden' location, I liked. -

My first time was fabulous - the bartenders know their shiz, to the point where I completely trusted them and just said, 'make me something nice and fruity' and they brought me the most delicious pear-based drink ever.
Would I go back? YES. In a heart beat. The octopus chips are to die for.... DO IT!
FYI It's more of an older, hipster-ish, artsy crowd. -

We went to their new location in early December to have a comfortable and low-key birthday date.
The service from the get-go was warm and attentive without ever being too pushy. The set up is very open and I like that you can peek into the kitchen and people watch (or see what the other diners are having).
Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but everything was delicious.
We had the octopus chips (boyfriend's favourite), beef tartare, and poutine to start, and for entrees I ordered the duck (my favourite) while my boyfriend had the pork. All of the food was delicious, though neither of us really preferred the beef tartare. Our drinks were also great.
If you go (as you should!) and if you order the poutine be warned that it's pretty big! Leave room and try the rest of their tasty dishes. We'll definitely be back. I've already sent my boss here for a work dinner and he loved it too! -

The food and service is stellar and definitely ideal for a date. The staff here knows how to make you feel welcome the moment you step in throught the doors.
I met a girlfriend here during a weeknight and our dinner turned into an extended evening of conversation sharing wine and an awesome meal. I love how our waitress knew to just split our main course without us asking. We probably stayed much longer than we intended, but we were never rushed--service with a smile. Highlights? The gnocchi and the apple tarte tartin this time around!!!
This may turn into one of my favorite restaurants in Gastown, but I'll have to come back a few more times to see how consistent they are with food and service. Will have to try their cocktails next time since we split a bottle of wine this time. -

Checked out Boneta in their new space in the courtyard off Water Street during Yelp Eats. Good food and good causes = bi-winning :)
Love the small plates here. The Beef Carpaccio (with garlic chips, arugula, marinated mushrooms & quails egg) was pretty amazing. We also had the Crispy Pork Belly and Deep Fried Octopus Chips out of curiosity too (not bad actually).
Also they make a damn good cocktail. -

If you are looking for a hip and cool place to eat, this is it. This restaurant is located in Gastown and if you are in the area, you should definitely go there. It's not cheap but it is so good.
It was girls' night out and one of the ladies decided on Boneta for dinner. What a great choice she made. We made a reservation before heading in.
Great ambience and the food was even better. I ordered the poutine and the duck breast. Poutine was good. It's not the best I've had but still it was pretty good. It's definitely a share plate especially if you are going to be ordering a main entree.
The duck breast was absolutely delightful. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. It's the best duck I've had ever! It was so tender, so moist and not greasy at all.
Our server was very efficient and had that commons sense some servers don't seem to possess. (This is important factor when dining out and makes your dining experience little bit more favourable, in my opinion). She knew to divide the dessert four ways and did that in advance even before we asked her to.
We split Chocolate wafer and Butterscotch pudding. Both were delicious but if you asked me to choose one over the other, I would pick chocolate only because I love chocolate. It is quite dainty though just to let you know.
Since we were a group of 9, they added gratuity of 17%. I didn't mind paying it since the server was on the ball and the food was delicious.
Only minor complaint I would have is the noise level. It was hard to talk to other people at the table because it was so loud. But other than that, I know that I will definitely will be back in the future and will recommend it to others. -

We were so warmly welcomed to Boneta....the service all evening was perfect; non intrusive but attentive and personable. It's a great space with a nice vibe....noisy in a fun, buzzy sort of way. Our party shared poutine and octopus chips to begin with. The poutine wasn't particularly remarkable but the octopus chips were unbelievable! Really fantastic...there were six of us and we had to order two more orders as bitter words and hostile stares were being exchanged regarding the last octo-chip. The gnocchi was a little salty in my opinion but the pork loin with yam perogi was really lovely.

Review from Keshar N.
I was so excited to eat here, SO excited! And I was SO disappointed... SO disappointed. I don't know what it was about the food, but it was so unoriginal and lackluster, that I am really sad that I ate here. I would have much rather spent the (significant) amount of money at Lupo where the food and service would have been way better. We started off with the foie gras terrine and the crab deviled eggs. We then had the sea bass and the cod (special). For dessert we had the hazelnut pot de creme (special). The foie gras was very good, but everything was just too soft. The toast was too soft and with the creamy foie gras it was just too mushy texturally for me. The cod was very good and the nudi were also very good. But I did think the cod was a little overcooked and Bob's sea bass was REALLY overcooked. The dessert was good, but I thought for a pot de creme, it really turned out more like a really dense fudge, which is not what I was expecting at all. Overall, for the price and the food, there are much better places you could go in Vancouver. I would start by going to the Korean wrap vendor down the street.

This is the type of place that makes me proud of this city!
Still pretty awesome, even if only for post-dinner, post-Bourdain drinks. The place was packed on a Sat. night at 10 pm, and it had a warm, fun atmosphere. It seems to have livened up in its new location, in my op.
Our waitress was new but efficient. Neil, the proprietor, was making his rounds in his friendly way. A host whom I'd never seen before was a cuter, younger, spitting image of Bobby Flay. How fitting!
We sat by the bar, ordered some delicious glasses of reasonably priced wine and some tasty cocktails, and marveled at the staff photo that was taking place in costumes, full-on, in the impeccable looking kitchen.
Order: foie gras in honour of Bourdain. Not my thing, but if you like it, you'll love this with the fig jam and big pieces of French Toast.
Deep fried squid-buttery, petite, banana-chip looking appy that was a refreshing take on calamari. A bit rich but delicious, and just the right amount before overdoing it.
Bourdain claims that the big thing in NY is "foie gras poutine." I personally haven't seen it on my last visit, but the table next to us was eating some pretty looking poutine. If you're in the mood for a heart attack, order that to go with the foie gras next time!
Bathrooms: prefer these to the last location, although they could have been cleaner; but it was an extremely busy night, so whatever.
All in all, it was delicious and entertaining, and we shut the place down. We will be back to enjoy dinner again soon!Listed in: Best Date Night Dinners in the…, Best After Dinner Places to…

Review from Robin M.
You know those places you just love so much that you find it hard to put into words? Or worse, you fear that once you do put it into words it will all seem too gushy, too mushy, too much? That's how I feel about Boneta. Cozy without being quaint, cool without being exclusive, "local" without being trendy, Boneta is as good as it gets.
I have a rule that if the menu is more than a couple of pages, then the food can't be that good. I trust the menu here. Not only is it concise, but it changes. Seared scallops, bison carpaccio, butter poached lobster, veal cheek -- order what you will on whim if you must. It's all going to be good, it's all going to be fresh, it's all going to make you want it again and again.
And yes, an impressive cocktail menu and wine list. Boneta has it all.
And they love me! They really, really do. -

Boneta is one of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver, mainly because of their amazing bourbon sours. You can get the classic or the New York, where a bit of red wine is added. Makes the drink a must-try.
The food is definitely top notch. I've been here three times, and have had the appies, mains, and desserts. My choices include the beef tartar (got to have that egg yolk), duck breast (succulent meat), and sablefish (so smooth and buttery).
Ambiance is warm with a trendy vibe. However, the room is definitely not pretentious. Love it here! -

The service was friendly... We actually got a table at 7pm on a Saturday night without having to make resos or wait!
But think that might have just been our luck that night.
As for the food, I ordered the Sablefish and hubby C ordered the Ling Cod. The meals were very pricey $$$ for the amount of food we each got.
And even if we tried to relish each bite, we pretty much finished our dinner in about 2 min! Seriously! It made me question whether I was making too much food for dinner these days.
Anyway, the quality was good but not like crazy wow amazing never before had anything like it good. Aka, I've had better.
The two couples beside us ordered some beef tartar/carpagio looking thing. I think I should have ordered that instead. Oh well.
For a place like Boneta I think it is best to try appys/tapas instead of just going for the main.
I don't think I will be back unless its someones 30th birthday or something... -

Update:
I was at Boneta tonight, my second time in their new space at Gaoler's Mews at 12 Water Street and probably my fourth or fifth time total. The new space feels much cozier and more relaxed than the original room on the corner of Cordova, but it's just as lovely. I met a friend and we had a long (4 hours?!) meandering dinner, and the noise level in the room was actually perfect--at it's busiest point, with tables all around us, we could still chat across the table without raising our voices. This may seem like an odd thing to point out, but anyone who's had to shout into another guest's ear at Salt or the Revel Room will know exactly what I'm talking about. The staff was also great, never hurrying or harassing us as we took our time ordering and chatted. Granted it was a less busy Sunday night, but they were beyond accommodating and it was really nice.
The food tonight was just what I've come to expect from Boneta: Their menu isn't huge, but what they do they do *well*. They do a nice spin on several classic cocktails (try the Manhattan!) and have a limited but high quality wine list that aligns perfectly with the fresh, local plates they offer. We had herbed gnocchi and foie gras small plates to start, and my only complaint would be that the foie was pretty undercooked for my liking. For our entrees, my friend had saddle of rabbit which she said was excellent, and my braised short ribs were impeccable--melt in your mouth, fall apart tender. I do wish that there had been some green on the plate: The ribs were served on a bed of amaranth and bathed in amazing gravy and local chanterelle mushrooms, but it could have used something fresh to offset the rich.
We also indulged and ordered a couple of desserts, and both were again exceptional and extremely rich. The honey parfait looked amazing and my chocolate mousse was topped with almonds, candied bacon and bourbon cream. The chocolate could have been a little more bitter and a little less sweet, and probably could have done without the almonds, but otherwise it was great--and our decaf cappuccinos were also perfectly made.
All in all I really enjoyed our Boneta experience, and had the foie been properly cooked I would have given five stars. Note: Boneta does charge you for bread, but it is worth it. The cute little brioche loaf they bring to the table is perfectly made and delicious.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Vancouver, BC
Dined here for our first time last week.
Excellent service and overall impressed with the food.
A couple of things that could be improved on:
1) Carpaccio - really needs to be served with some type of crackers or crostini/bread
2) Foie Gras - part of the inside was almost cold, other parts just warm
3) Wine List - ideally should feature more BC wines
4) Coat check - we had the hostess check our coats near the entrance. There is no coat check tag system and the coat check closet is wide open. We simply grabbed our coats on the way out.
We definitely look forward to dining at Boneta again. -
Review from Ai S.
Apparently, when I came here a few weeks ago, they had just moved into this new space. Not sure how it compares to the old one, but this one is looking pretty good.
I came on a Friday night and took a seat at the bar. Lots of energy in the place, and everyone was super friendly. I chatted it up with some of the locals next to me and truly enjoyed myself. The bartender was adorable and whipped up a cucumber gimlet-like drink. Tasty and refreshing. I wasn't even hungry, already having downed a japadog earlier, but the gnocchi was calling me. And the chanterelles. And the goat cheese. A triple threat and I lost big time. Well, I guess I didn't really lose because my taste buds were singing! -
Review from Jeremy C.
I came here with a large group that grew larger than our reservation, and the wait staff was exceptionally accommodating. In fact, the service was all around admirable.
The food was good. Not memorable, but certainly enjoyable. For the price, however, I was expecting something more. Everyone in my party seemed to feel the same way. The poutine stands out amongst the rest of the dishes I tried - and, given the portion and flavor, was actually well worth the price. The cocktails were above average, but there are certainly better options in the neighborhood.
I'd be willing to try this place again, but in a town full of so many great restaurant options it won't likely come up again soon. -
Review from Gaile G.

Boneta is a classic local neighbourhood favourite. Living in Gastown right around the corner from the the current location has made quite literally, Boneta our second dining / living room. Home away from Home, where we don't have to wash dishes and a lovely place to order a "custom job" cocktail and never be disappointed.
Top on the list of favourites staples:
#1 - Poutine (request the extra gravy & cheese if you are a poutine lover like me)
#2 - Smoked Bison Carpaccio (its not bison, arugula, or the same dressing ... hoping the original comes back or we may have to borrow the recipe for home cooking) ... still worth the try the new version
#3 - Gnocci, new version is sable fish with bacon, interesting combo (missing old skool version with crispy sage leaves)
#4 - Crispy Pork Ear Frites & Sauce Gribiche, new favourite, not always for everyone, but I love it! , unique texture and a tasty treat
Mains:
#1 - 32oz Canada Prime Cote de Boeuf For Two & Marrow Sauce (for you meat lovers, this is a treat that is perfect. If you are a serious meat eater, do order rare and you'll be in heaven)
Dessert:
#1 "Tarte Tatin" For Two, The Original Apple Pie (the ice cream portion has changed, but worth asking for a second scoop, I admit to missing the mango sized scoop with previous presentation)
Cocktails:
#1 - Tequila - well this is the key to my heart, so I pretty much order a custom job with Corzo (my favourite looking bottle)
#2 - Vodka - my man loves his vodka, so anything the lovely genius(s) behind the bar always brings a happy smile ...
# 3 - new favourites "Harlequin" old favourites "the Bobby k"
Staple Cocktail Start - Tequila Martinez or the classic Manhattan
Staple Cocktail Ending - Pick Me Up
Our recommendation is to sit at the bar / lounge area. (especially to our out of town guests :: please listen :: sit in the front bar lounge or even at the bar - this is a note from your locals)
Locals love their Thursdays. If you plan to come the weekend, a lovely first stop or late evening stop is a must for a Gastown neighbourhood visit. We are truly spoiled to have Restaurant families like Boneta in our community. When you see the passion of "Live what you Love" coming through from when you first enter the door right to the last second you leave. Boneta is top on our list of Vancouver musts.Listed in: VANCOUVER EATS - Gastown

I feel like this review sort of belongs in the Department of Redundancy Department, since Boneta has tons of "omg everything was amazing" reviews already...but I really, really enjoyed it.
The food was inventive and delicious and the service was quick and pleasant. I also love the location - still in Gastown but tucked away from the craziness of the main streets.
My dining companion and I split the tuna and the foie gras to start. Both were amazing. The tuna was a real stand out with a perfect amount of spiciness which was balanced out very will with the cucumber sorbet. I could have eaten like three of these for my whole meal. We also got some of their brioche bread, which costs $3 dollars but is so worth it we ordered a second one. So soft, warm and flaky. Kind of like if French bread and a croissant had a baby.
For my main I had the duck breast which was perfectly done, and even the brussel sprouts, which are not usually my favourite, were really yummy.
If there is one restaurant you go to in Vancouver, go to Boneta. I will be back very soon. -
Review from Rick C.
We hopped over to Boneta after an event for some stiff drinks and delicious appetizers.
We all ordered bourbon sours. I stuck to the regular blend while the girls got "New York" ones with a spot of red wine. The wine injection packed a punch, but I preferred the classic variety.
First off, we ordered a nice helping of poutine. It was splendid. The fresh Okanagan cheese curds in particular were melty and creamy. The gravy was consistent and smooth.
It really hit the spot with our bourbon sours. It was a fine way to wind down a random Monday in Gastown.
The duck liver pate, and rhubarb compote was quite rich and tasty. The texture was good and smooth. They did not give us nearly enough crostinis for the amount of meat paste served though. We had to ask for two additional servings. I thought the beef carpaccio with confit tomato and blue cheese was just okay. It was not as textured as I would have liked.
Boneta made for some pretty delicious dining and fine drinks. I loved the inside decor and it was definitely a relaxing time with our appies wetting our whistles. -
Review from K J.
My mom and I were in Vancouver for a girls trip and choose Boneta after a recommendation from a friend and after reading the wonderful Yelp reviews. We had a fabulous experience. We went on a Monday night so we didn't have any crowds. We decided to share several different plates to maximize the number of items we could taste. We started with the local lettuce salad with hemp seeds. It was light and refreshing. We also choose the fois gras based on the rave reviews and it did not disappoint. We finished up with the lingcode (which I believe was new to the menu) and it was cooked to perfection. The service was very attentive and answered all of our questions about the menu.

Review from Betty L.
Went there for dinner with two other people on a Friday night. Eventhough I got the reservation date mixed up, the hostess managed to get a table for us at a bit later time. As usual the food, atmosphere and service was pretty good. The portions and prices were reasonable.
Highlight dishes:
1) Smoked bison carpaccio w/dried tomatoes, arugula, quail egg &parmesan - eventhough I couldn't taste the smokiness of the bison, the meat tasted fresh, the egg was nicely cooked and the arugula salad wasn't soggy
2)Duck breast, leek, apple, gizzard, brussel sprouts &sunchoke chips- all the elements came together nicely. The duck breast was cooked nicely (skin was crispy & meat was medium rare), apples brought acidity & freshness to the dish. Thank goodness the gizzards weren't tough and the brussel sprouts didn't really taste that like brussel sprouts (a good thing). The chips was a nice addition.
3)Oxtail arancini & smoked paprika aioli- this side dish completed my meal. A good and unusual combo of oxtail meat w/risotto in a ball then deep fried. I was intrigued then surprised by how good it was.
Overall, I had a good experience at Boneta's. A nice upscale trendy place in the heart of Gastown. -
Review from Aaron S.
So it was my birthday the other week and my good friend KD wanted to buy me a drink. He also wanted to return to Boneta for Galeons and I happily accepted his offer. We sat up at the bar and ordered two tasty beverages and an order of the bison carpaccio. The friendly bartender slid over our awesome drinks and had some good laughs. After awhile I noticed the bison hadn't come yet and it was long past the wait time for such a simple dish. We flagged down another of the bar staff who checked and realized it wasn't put into the system. He apologized way more than was necessary and said it would be out shortly. The original bartender who made the mistake came over and also apologized. We said it was no problem but they put two wine glasses in front of us and poured a shot of Bordeaux into each as a way of making it up to us. Now that my friends is service.
Don't let me down Boneta. I have showered you with praise. May my return visits and those of friends be truly awesome so I don't look like an ass. Okay, so more of an ass than usual...............1 Previous Review: Show all »

Vancouver, BC
My bf and I had our Valentine's Day dinner here. I picked the place and made reservations, afraid that they would be full on the evening of.
Anyway, we ordered red wine, appetizer (forgot what it was called) with:
+ Seared Scallops, Sea Urchin Risotto, Edamame, Cauliflower Cream, Frisee, Bottarga for $29
+Braised AAA Beef Short Rib, Carrots, Kale, Shimeji Mushrooms, Zuddas Potato $27
When the meal came, our portions were really small, even the appetizer which I forgot what the exact name was. The scallops were not nicely marinated...they were bland. $29 bucks for 3 dinky little scallops, what a rip off. I was not full from my scallops that the bf knew and kept feeding me his braised beef short rib, which was small too. The braised beef was alright but wasn't the best I have ever had. We were not full and thought about having our second dinner elsewhere.
For the prices I paid, I could have gone to the Market again during Dine Out or eat regularly at the Market and would still experience something different and even better.
Two out of 5 stars. -

I haven't eaten here since they have moved to their new location, but the bar staff are very good at making some very exquisite and original drinks, as well as the good old favourites. The staff are friendly and I like the modern decor. One of my go to places for an after work martini and some good banter with the bar men and punters at the bar.

Review from Sam L.
If this review was based on my meal here last night for my birthday, I would have given Boneta 3 stars, however, due to my previous excellent experiences here, I think a 4 rounds it out.
My girlfriend and I came here last night, and even through we were running a bit late for our reservation, they were very gracious and found us a seat almost immediately, even though it was very busy. We each had a beer, and we ordered the poutine, which seems like a strange item to have on such a sleek restaurant's menu, but the poutine here is SO good - better than any I ever had in Montreal. After the poutine came our main courses, duck breast for my girlfriend and veal cheeks for me. My girlfriend thought her dish was too salty, which was funny because mine begged for more seasoning, so after a few bites we decided to trade. After that, all was right in the world, with the exception of the mushroom/wild rice/almond mixture underneath the duck breast being WAY oversalted, so much so that I couldn't finish it.
Aside from the food, I should also mention that shortly after we received our main courses, my brother called asking if he could join us, since his girlfriend had gone home after a disagreement (the two of them were supposed to meet us for drinks after dinner elsewhere in Gastown). Since he was now alone, he didn't want to go to the bar by himself, so I asked our server if they could arrange another chair, even though we were in a narrow aisle. The place was super busy by now, but they actually placed us at another table with more room and carried all our food/drinks/etc. over as well. This really impressed me, as they could have easily said no. After that, the three of us continued on our merry way and had a fantastic evening, thanks in part to this wonderful establishment. -

I can't really find anything negative to say about Boneta. The food here is highly crave-able, which can be dangerous if you live nearby and are on any sort of financial or dietary budget: it ain't cheap, but damn that tastes good.
Pretty sure this is the best poutine in Vancouver. The fries are nice and big but still crunchy, not all potatoey, so they stay crisp even drenched in gravy and melty cheese. I always have trouble choosing my meals here, which is a very bullish sign. Poutine or bison carpaccio? Braised veal cheeks or duck confit? Not to worry, choose at random if you must, for it will surely delight regardless.
I have been here in the late afternoon for drinks and a snack, I have taken dates here, I have taken my parents here, I have taken large groups here, I have had a late-night bottle of wine here, and I have flown solo here - never have I left disappointed.
Be sure to ask "what lurks off the wine list" and enjoy the knowledgeable, welcoming, and warmly attractive staff.
See you soon Boneta, I love you, too.Listed in: A Gastown Jaunt

We ended up at Boneta on a Saturday night while drinking our way thru Gastown. I'm glad we chose this restaurant. It is fairly spendy so we shared two small plates.
Our waitress was very charming and attentive.
The food was fantastic. Best crab cakes I've had in the city. And the gnocchi came with sablefish and in a bacon sauce. You can't go wrong with bacon!
The only complaint I had was that the music was on the louder side. Which made talking across the table at my dinner partner a tad tricky. -

I am still in tarte tartin heaven 24 hours after I've consumed it. It was that amazing.
Sweet caramelized apples, oven baked on top of a flaky, soft buttery crust. Top all of that with a large scoop of vanilla bean ice cream-yes, this is what dessert is all about. Yes, I could eat this everyday for dessert.
Back to our meal. We came to try out the Eat/Drink/Local menu that was being offered. I got tan Alsace Cocktail, with gin, elderflower, lavender, chamomile, grapefruit and bubbles. A light sweet drink. Perfect for the chilly weather.
For the entree,I chose the veal. I'm normally not a fan of veal, but today i decided i wanted a change and tried out. Best choice ever. Veal Cheeks, with carrots, turnips, kale, and mixed mushrooms. Despite the dish being a small portion, it was delicious. The veal was tender and soft, one of those melt in your mouth with flavour dishes. The veggies were also great, all the flavours mingling together to create one amazing dish.
The service was great throughout the night. Our friendly server always checked up on us, making sure everything was alright.
I'm still thinking about that tarte tartin. I just might stop by tonight for another bite of that deliciousness.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Oh wow. Incredible.
The service was spot on, the food delicious, and the atmosphere wonderful. And the company was pretty fantastic, too.
Taking advantage of Eat/Drink Local, a few of us Yelpers came here to try the food and drinks. We each participated in the $20 entree plus drink menu, plus we ordered a couple appies and desserts, because we were hungry and ready to try everything.
The bison carpaccio was pretty awesome, and I liked the wee quail's eggs that came with. Everything on that plate blended so well together. Then there was the gnocchi, with the butter sauce and fried bits of sage and capers, which was just truly incredible. Life changing, as Cyndi H said.
Normally I would never, ever order veal, but the entree sounded good with the kale and mushrooms, so I went for it. It really was fantastic, and no knife was needed, because it was incredibly tender. The portions are small, so I was glad we had ordered appies, and of course, still had room for dessert. I would have enjoyed a few more mushrooms, though, as there were only a few under the kale. The roasted veggies were cooked to perfection, and everything on the plate was explained thoroughly by our lovely waitress.
Ah, right, the service I mentioned. From the moment we walked in we had friendly, prompt, awesome service. Everyone was knowledgeable, and everyone pitched in, from clearing tables, to seating, and bringing out food. They seem like a cohesive team. The space is lovely, and it's a shame they are moving, but the staff explained why and seem happy about going to the new location.
Dessert was pretty great, as we tried the new-to-the-menu sticky toffee pudding. It was delicious, though maybe not as sticky as I had hoped. The date puree was a nice touch and the ice cream was good. There was also a banana leche something tried at the table. Really cool combo of flavours, and the ice cream was awesome that came with it.
I had the Alsace as a drink, which was refreshing and pleasant, but the boys ordered Galleons, which were fan-freakin-tastic. I will have more of those in the future. Oh yes.
Overall, a really wonderful evening, with great food, service and awesome friends. I would gladly come here again. Especially if someone else was paying.Listed in: Treat Yourself

Can't say enough about this restaurant.
Start with the dark and stormy cocktail and order away. Whatever appetizer and main course you get should always be followed by the tart tatin apple pie. Order it with the main meal because it takes 20 minutes to be ready. You'll not regret it! -

All I hear in my head is "I just can't get enough" by Depeche Mode when I think about Boneta's.
I had to go back to have the poutine, the braised veal cheeks, and this time I added the tarte tatin (allow 20 minutes). Crazy good! I am addict and the only cure is Boneta's!Listed in: The 5 Star List

Let's get to the good stuff first: The Smoked Bison Carpaccio is what food dreams are made of! Add sherry vinaigrette, arugula, walnuts, quail eggs and you've got one delicious food combination.
Okay, let's back up! This was my second visit to Boneta and I don't know why its taken me so long to come back! I chalk it up to Gastown's awesomeness: the neighbourhood is chock-a-block full of tasty restaurants, bars/pubs, and lounges.
From the moment you walk in the door, Boneta oozes a great vibe. From the large windows overlooking the street to the cleverly placed oversize mirrors hanging from the ceiling, I don't even know where to look!
On the table for us: the above mentioned carpaccio (nom!), daily baked bread (so fluffy!), poutine (rich gravy), house made gnocchi (pillowy soft), seared salmon (such a generous portion), and lamb presented 2 ways (love variety).
Everything was cooked really well and nicely presented. I washed this all down with a tasty bourbon sour (#1 bourbon sour spot has to go to Refinery!)
A highlight of the evening? A large group of men walked up to the kitchen single file. After lining up, they faced the kitchen staff and burst into a loud round of applause. Bravo! -

Had one of the most wonderful meals here. My wife and I went to celebrate my birthday and we gorged ourselves, just a bit, enjoying the wonderful food and cocktails.
Started off with two cocktails, the Opera and the Harlequin. Both were very good, the Harlequin had a bit of Absinthe in it and was very very yummy.
Moved into some starters of Buffalo Carpaccio and Poutine. And they both were over the top, but I think the Carpaccio won out for me, my wife enjoyed the Poutine.
Moved into the mains with a succulent braised short rib and the butter poached lobster....both were divine! The meat fell off the bone of the short rib and had such a rich velvety texture. My wife got that "look" on her face as she ate her lobster that said "Don't disturb me while I let this flavor melt through me".
Lastly we enjoyed two rich desserts, the Banana Leche and Valrhona Chocolate Bento Box. The star of the Bento Box is the chocolate mousse. And the whole banana leche dish was fab. It had an Earl Grey ice cream, that I wish I had at home to have more of. The peanut butter mousse was ariey and light and packed with good peanut butter flavor (in fact it was really good with the chocolate mousse from the Bento Box).
If you are looking for a place to have dinner, eat here. All that and we didn't break the bank either.
