I do enjoy this bakery very much. Stopped today for my fav bread (cranberry, raisen nut) and a loaf of the multigrain rye. Both excellent and worth every penny.
As well enjoyed one of those gingersnap cookies mentioned earlier lol The whole wheat and barley cookies are very good as well.. not laden with uber processed fats and high fructose syrups.
I think Bon Ton is an excellent example of HEALTHY old style baking... natural fats, sugars, etc ... not the processed crap, highly refined and pre mixed stuff like most places.
If you are going to indulge, do so with quality ingredients in a healthy portion. I do not find the baking too sweet, one of the reasons I enjoy it.
As well, there is a large selection of specialty items... gluten free etc.
Only thing I dont buy at Bon Ton are many of the specialty honey, preserves, etc. They are very high priced here... most can be purchased at the Italian Center on 51ave for much better prices.... but... it really is a wonderful bakery and I def reommend it! -

The selection is stellar and the product looks amazing. Glance a little further and you will notice this is old style unhealthy baking: milk, eggs, refined sugar, white flour, oil, etc. It tastes great but it does not agree with my stomach. Too sweet and too refined.
I won't be able to return. If you are more health conscious I recommend Bee Bell and Planet Organic, and even Duchess Bake Shop. They have gluten free alternatives and tend to use healthier sugar options. -

Yum ! I have found my go-to bakery. It's a definite glutton for punishment for me. I have fallen in love with the lemon curd cheese tart as well as the mexican chocolates. The mexican chocolates are perfect for my entire family because none of us have a real sweet tooth. I've heard so many things about the bread here too that I will have to jump on that train soon ! It's also nice to see that they carry alot of stuff that I have seen at the farmers market too. Jams, mustard, etc. My jeans say no but my tummy says yes!

I have yet to figure out what the "Ton" in this bakery's name actually stands for, but I am a fan. Definitely. Their breads are toothsome and fresh, the cookies and cinnamon buns are fragrant and tender, and the store set-up is very eye-catching. I only wish I didn't have to drive so far to reach Bon Ton. There is a growing presence of stand-alone bakeries in Edmonton; Bon Ton is a heavyweight in the ring.

I love the sausage rolls that Bon Ton makes. A friend recommended them several years ago and I've never forgotten. Sadly I didn't see any today.
It's really neat that if you look at the door handles, they're rolling pins!
I really enjoyed the fresh bakery smell - today was cinnamon. It's usually somewhat busy due to their awesome reputation. I was impressed that they don't use any soy products in their breads. -

Bon Ton Bakery is one of Edmonton's oldest and most established bakeries. It sells a variety of breads, cookies, cakes, pastries, and other baked goods with distinctive flavours and textures. Some of the classic items here include the danishes, which come in a variety of flavours and have a buttery, flaky dough to them. Other old favourites include the large, soft flax cookies (a meal in themselves), ginger bread, rum cake (with a thick, pink, rum-flavoured coating), and sugar cookies with happ faces (a childhood staple of mine).
In recent years, Bon Ton has become more conscious of health and the environment. The store is powered using natural energy, and the selection of breads include numerous healthy options using grains and omegas. Bon Ton is one of the few places in Edmonton where you can get a decent challah, which is a traditional Jewish egg loaf.
Bon Ton also has a few coolers full of spreads and light foods, many of which are locally made. -

So my parents have introduced me to a new bread place (and bakery), the joint is called Bon Ton and my mom is a huge fan of theirs. She and my dad are European and they love to keep an eye out for places that make bread like they way the old country does it. My mom loves Bon Ton's heavy rye it brings her back home. I really like their French bread it's really nice. We also like some of their dessert foods. I suggest the poppy seed cake or the cinnamon buns. If you put the cinnamons in the microwave for about 30 seconds it tastes really good. I haven't tried any of their other desserts but they look really yummy!
The service is pretty great and the breads are fresh. -

You will find some of the freshest bread in town at the Bon Ton Bakery.
I don't really pick up any bread from here but I always give in to my sweet tooth. They have giant ginger snap cookies here they bring back memories of cookies I used to eat as a kid and now can't find anything that comes close but these. They have many desserts and it is so tempting to try them all.
I can't handle going here very often because once I am there I want to try everything but it's good to spoil yourself every now and then. -

I have been driving by Bon Ton for a couple months now as I just moved into the area. Every time I have gone to go check it out, its been closed! Apparently we work different hours (and most people do work different hours than this shift worker, so its understandable). Finally though, today, it happened. They were open and I was free, so inside I walked.
I was immediately hit by the fresh, sweet smell of all the breads and cookies. I could hardly focus there was so much to look at! I was quite excited to see a retail outlet carrying Dip Sea Chicks dips and Happy Camel dips and pita which I thought I could only get at the farmers markets. However Bon Ton won my heart over forever when I saw Ms. Balls Chutney. I have been craving the stuff since a 3 month stint in Africa where it is more common than ketchup, and I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Until now! Not only do they carry it but they have different heats and flavors of it as well! I then wandered over to the cakes and my husband and I couldn't decide what to split a slice of. We eventually settled on the last piece of Sour Cherry Cheesecake before making our way to the till. They were almost out of bread but the kind owner saw that we were new customers and highly recommended a loaf of cinnamon bread to take home and make french toast with in the morning. I am so looking forward to breakfast at the hands of my husband tomorrow.
I am looking forward to visiting as often as I can when our hours meet. This is such a great stop for healthy breads, cookies and cakes! -

At Bon Ton you can get some of the freshest, most healthy bread products in town. I always forget about this place until I'm driving by. Then the cravings overwhelm me and I have to stop in. They carry stone-ground organic baked goods that are trans-fat free. Their raisin bran and carrot muffins are fantastic and fresh, and their giant ginger snap cookies are mouth-watering and fairly guilt-free. If I want to pick up a loaf or two, I go for the Omega bread, which is full of whole-grain goodness, and the cranberry raisin walnut loaf, which is so good toasted with melted butter that it takes care of my sweet cravings while its around - which isn't for long. There's also a whole counter of desserts. I've tried the sour cherry cheese cake and lemon tarts, but everything looks amazing. Finally, there are some locally made preserves, and fresh cream cheeses and dips in the dairy case, excellent for bagels or pretzel dipping. If you're having company, or just want some delicious food around for a weekend, this is a great stop on a Saturday morning to get everything really fresh!Listed in: Gotta Sweet Tooth?
