Like going to your Auntie's place, if your Aunt runs an Indian restaurant.
Decor is way over the top but service is friendly and attentive.
Food is mostly well prepared and portion sizes are a bit larger than usual.  Prices are also a bit larger  -- 12 to 15 dollars for entree-sized butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, etc. - but no extra charge for rice.

Palik paneer, butter chicken and lamb roganjosh were excellent. Not particularly spicy but a side of green hot sauce took care of the lack of innate heat.  Fresh naan was warm with lots of ghee.  Yogurt had herbs and tomatoes mixed in.  Appetizer pakoras were so-so.  Complimentary mango ice cream ended the meal on a high note.

Look in the Entertainment 2011 book for a  $10 off coupon.

Parking lot is bad.  Too many restaurants packed into a little strip mall with too few parking spaces.  Park across the street and run across Hunt Club if you dare.

The service was horrible - only 2 staff - the cook and the server. The server was rude, the service as very very slow. When we asked about the slow service, the server SNAPPED.

The food was bland and tasteless!! The nan and the dosa were oozing with grease!! The butter chicken, curry shrimp and palak panir were tasteless. Only redeeming features were the pakoras and mango lassis.

We are NEVER going back there AGAIN.

Order: garlic nan, masala dosa, butter chicken, curry shrimp and palak panir

Bombday Garden is a popular spot for Indian food in the Ottawa area, and it certainly has appeal; brightly lit and large restaurant, decent and friendly servers, and affordable.

However, as a South Asian, it does seem to lack that level of authenticity and tries too hard to appeal to non-South Asians. The food is not bad, but lacks the kick and spice that personifies Indian food.

I would suggest the Naan Kebob platter or Butter Chicken plate, but advise against trying the Chicken biryani, as it tasted really off the one time I tried it.

The lassi (milk-type drink) is a good way to wash it all down. This is not a bad place to eat by any means, but it's nothing unforgettable either.

The taste of the food is not bad, but the next hair-free dish I order from this place may well be the first. (And, being a resident of the area with a frequent yen for Indian food, I've bit the bullet and ordered from them more times than I care to admit). Pass if possible, just on hygiene grounds.
