Priced fair, made right, made locally and impressive internationally.

Don't forget to check the back room.

Don't forget to look at the art collection on the walls.

    A+

I am very disappointed with this company.

I will give two caveats to my comments first, then I will give you all the details.

First: My sofa is 12 year old. I was delighted with it when we bought it. It was awesome. I realize that it is 12 years old. maybe that is far beyond what I expected the lifespan of a sofa as expensive as this one was. But the reality is that it is 12 years old.

Second: I did contact the company about this sofa close to 18 months ago and they did respond requesting to see the fabric, and defended their 100 year frame guarantee. Unfortunately I became too busy with life stuff to drop in the showroom with the cushions as they requested and now it is that much worse.

    OK. Here is my side.

First. This sofa is 12 years old. The sofa that I gave away to my cousin was recovered at the same time we bought our Bombast sofa. His still looks like almost new....it looks like a sofa that has lived with three children and two dogs....for three years.  It is about 98% better that the one I have. The fabric on his is almost new. There are some scratches from toys in the wood. The frame is obviously 100%. My Bombast sofa is practically threadbare on 3-4% of the cushions. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but when it's on the cushions there is no where to hide it. The fabric has lost all its texture and just has a sheen. The piping has gone white with the cotton underneath showing through. It is wrinkled. The cushions on the end have collapsed. and whatever sits between the cushions and the fabric is creeping into the center of the cushions so it looks like there is a line or two under the fabric. Like it's wearing a couple pairs of underwear under tight jeans.

I understand that furniture ages. I understand that fabric wears. What I don't understand is why this particular sofa wore so much worse than any other of the same or older vintage.

Bombast has a page on their website that says "this sofa will last for 100 years". Sorry folks, that is a lie. The frame will last for 100 years, heck probably even longer, just as would a 2x4 stored indoors for that long. But the SOFA....the SOFA that I bought paying a price that I would have assumed assured long term quality lasted about 8 years, started to break down, and now is so ugly it looks better with a fleece blanket wrapped over it.

Excited about shopping for sectionals I entered Bombast's amazing, sleek and modern looking showroom. At first, I was ecstatic, I liked so much of what I was looking and running my hands over. The pieces: stunning. The styles? Well let's just say that I contemplated blowing my perfect credit score over them.

I was there for 5-10 minutes. Two people sat at the desk in the back. Neither glanced my way, not even a head nod. I guess I don't look like the sectional buying type, or perhaps it was because I was with a friend and we were chatting...

I would have continued to hang around to ask a question or two, but once I realized that the cigarette smoke was circulating because of the two of them, a wave of disgust engulfed me. Outside of the fact that there's a bylaw that prohibits smoking inside businesses in Vancouver, the idea that my furniture would reek when I got it home disgusted me enough to shudder and leave.

Bombast Furniture, located in Vancouver's historic Chinatown district, has a beautiful showroom akin to your dream living room, should minimalist chic and interesting details fit your description of a perfect living space.

Modern living room furniture, from luxuriously upholstered couches and chaise lounges, uniquely built desks, tables and chairs, to new-shag carpets (don't be scared of shag, it can look pretty interesting and this newer version is far less um, dirty looking than its 70's cousin...), Bombast pieces have a vibe all their own.  Lighting options include ornately carved floor lamps and Dutch wall light fixtures.

I am especially interested in a simply designed bed frame with attached bedside table and optional upholstered back splash on the headboard.  I find the pieces here to be very zen in nature with a spark of modern chic.  Prices to match!

As I sit here on my Bombast Lux Low Sectional Sofa I: (a) am extremely comfortable (b) pleased that I have such a stunning sofa and (c) I made a lifelong friend in Russell Baker.

It was really important to me to buy locally made, well crafted products with aesthetically pleasing clean lines and a nod to environmental responsibility that didn't cost a fortune.  I searched all over Vancouver, BC and finally found Bombast - a fantastic, local boutique manufacturer.  I don't need to talk about how beautiful the furniture is here - just go to the website and see for yourself.

As the other reviewers mention the beautiful showroom (which it is), what made my initial (and on going) experience amazing was the personal care and attention of "the people at the desk in the back".  That person is Russell Baker.  How many furniture stores do you go to where the actual designer is there?  Who literally invites you into his "living room" (because that is what the showroom kinda is) to discuss what you are looking for?  Who tweaks the designs enough to suit your personality while staying within the aesthetic of the design?  How does he know your personality?  Because he took the time to sit down with you (whether at the desk or on one of the sofa's) - you are *certainly* NOT an anonymous consumer here.  Russell is an artist and he is proud of his creations and wants them to fit naturally and effortlessly into your home and life.  I still drop in just to say "hi" and give him updates on how my couch and chair (oh, ya, I bought the Urban Flow in swivel form too) continue to get rave reviews from my friends.  Russell, you're awesome.

But it doesn't stop with him!  Every step of the way, from the delivery guys (who had to move my sofa twice because I didn't measure the elevator) to the folks at the studio who had to rejig that furniture to fit the elevator, to the care and attention to the product itself, to Russell who came up with the most creative ways to get the furniture into my apartment - it was always like I was dealing with friends who *really* cared.

I've bought sofa's at Pottery Barn (for $10K and cheaply made), I've had custom designed sofa's (where it was like ordering off a menu), I've also gone really high end.   But none of those told a story - where I had a connection.  When people ask about this sofa?  I tell them about Russell, the store, the process, the team and how happy I am.  When was the last time you did that when someone complimented you on your furniture?  Do you even know the name of the person who made your furniture?  Right then.  Get down to Bombast and change that.
