As if I didn't already LOVE these guys enough, today I was the lucky winner of free Boloco for my office!! Anthony was fantastic at helping place our order of 15 burritos, chips and quac and salsa (which was freshly made mmmm soo good). I tried the teriyaki for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the sweet saltyness and great amount of veggies inside. Will definitely have to put this one in the weekly rotation of my Boloco visits. Everyone was so happy to have a free lunch brighten up their Monday. Thanks Boloco! You guys are the best!
Maybe I should go buy a lotto ticket....Listed in: Hot Sauce Anonymous

Positives: they seem like nice people. And their free burrito day was surprisingly efficient. I'm not trying to be mean but I'm sorry I just can't help myself when I'm mostly grading on the food.
My FB wall post to a fellow Bay Area bred amiga after Boloco:
"eating this boloco free burrito and hating myself a little because it makes my heart ache so much. i'm such a bitchy little burrito elitist but i cannot deal - the carnitas were dry and mealy, rice undercooked, beans undercooked, tortilla too thick. i'm filled, but upset. i might crack open a corona before 2pm to soothe my soul. #californiaproblems #burritobitching"
1+ to the camp of "these aren't burritos, these are wraps" Sorry Boloco, although props for the efficiency/success of your free burrito day.Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 5/23/2012

Please eat here or Tufts students/local Medford residents will have a burrito-sized hole in their GI tract! Seriously, we would all have to walk to Davis Square to eat burritos, so I am pleading with everybody to eat at Boloco..
What else is there to say?
THE GIST: Boloco has fresh and fast burritos that are easily customizable to your wants and desires. I usually come here because its close, convenient and fast to order. Boloco is Americanized burritos like Chipotle, but with more flavors.
WHY BOLOCO? I'm a fan because of their quick service. I have been coming here since my freshman year and the employees are always friendly. Since I go there so much, they all know what I usually like (Buffalo Chicken with Romaine Lettuce, Brown rice and a Whole wheat wrap) and get it to me even faster. I'm hopeful that they will make their spicy BLT a permanent menu item.
FUN FACT: if you go there often enough, you notice that there is one TUPD sergeant who ALWAYS eats there (probably even more than me)
TIP: get their FREE rewards card. Every $50 of purchases, you get a free menu item. Their smoothies are also very tasty. I would recommend the nutella milkshake, but only get a small because its way too rich for your tastebuds/stomach if you get too much. Too rich = the shits
They are also usually full around lunchtime.
All in all..cool people, cool burritosComment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 5/23/2012

Great place for lunch, always fresh ingredients, and great variety of choices- you can even make your own. Some of my favorites include the teriyaki with steak, the Memphis barbecue with carnitas, and lately I've been all about the spicy BLT. That's right, a BLT from boloco, and this thing is seriously amazing. People who think this is just a burrito place are very wrong.
By the way, if you sign up at http://thelevelup.com and use promo code 125686, you get $2 off here plus a free $5 off at any restaurant on thelevelup. -

These folks love what they do and they love promoting fun for their customers.
I drop by regularly and they have a consistency in the staff that is almost unheard of in the fast food business. I get what I ordered (I'll admit I keep things simple) and I get it fast. When they do make mistakes, they fix it without attitude.
I'm a fan of the Memphis BBQ pork and the Cookie Monster, though the Classic Mexican and the Mediterranean are also good options. I need to try the bigger Sweet Caroline because the sausage is addictive.
I miss the XL burritos because they covered two meals (easy).Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 5/24/2012

Save this establishment! It's an absolute asset to the neighborhood (not to mention to my husbands diet). The new ordering system is pretty cool, but at the end of the day it's hand-prepared burritos you can feel good about. For calorie counters, they have an amazing website offering nutrition information. So easy to customize. We love it!

I don't end up here too often, but, when I do, I'm always pleasantly surprised by 1. how friendly and on-the-ball everyone is and 2. how fresh-tasting and yummy my burrito turns out (whichever flavor combo I end up with...)
Anyway, I think it is a little pricey for the amount of food you get (and I almost got some special one they were running then didn't when the fine print said it would be $1.50 to add guac which seemed insane) but overall it's a go-to when I forget (or in today's case, drop) my lunch from home.Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 11/15/2011

I wasn't sure I'd like Boloco. I'm not really a big fan of rice in burritos and was a bit wary of some of the combinations they were offering. That being said, my maiden voyage to the place has made me a believer!
Boloco offers a variety of burritos and salads. You can either order one of their premade combinations (and pick your protein of choice) or create your own. As this was my first visit, I decided to go with a premade option: the Bangkok Thai with chicken. It was absolutely delicious: the peanut sauce was fabulous, the brown rice had a nice chew to it, and the Asian slaw and cucumber added a welcome amount of crunch. The summer burrito was also quite tasty. I had the chance to sample my bf's and loved the taste of the mango salsa: it really jazzed up what would have otherwise been a pedestrian burrito. As far as what size to order... the mini is quite small (good for a very light lunch or a snack), while the small is sufficient for a standard-sized lunch.
To drink, Boloco has a selection of smoothies. My sister's had the Nutella milkshake and reported that it was a bit rich for a beverage... it could be a meal. The cape codder has a nice tang to it thanks to the combination of cranberry and frozen yogurt. There's also a cookie monster smoothie (frozen yogurt and chocolate chip cookie pieces) which my inner six-year-old is strongly tempted to try... -

Erik's rating agency has downgraded the Tufts Boloco to junk status, with a negative outlook. Further austerity measures are recommended---possibly default.
Seriously though, I used to depend on this place. Now half my orders get messed up and half of the workers look either pissed off or depressed. They stopped delivering a while ago (which should be updated above) and whenever I try to order stuff ahead of time on the phone it's like trying to explain galactic quasars to a three year old.
I ate here all the time my freshman and sophomore years, but have since done otherwise. Even though this place is so close, most of the time we say f*ck it and drive to Anna's in davis sq.
When I heard this place was closing I was sort of happy. Like, looking forward to some closure, like I'd finally get to put my old friend to rest. Now they are sticking around, and even put in some new touch screen things, which confuses me..
I'd give them 1 star but I usually walk out full, so I can't complain that much. Just give me some consistency, pls.Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 12/29/2011

Even though I think their burritos are just ok, I sometime got this craving for them and an elvis shake.
It seemed like every other day they were running some promotion, or I would find a free burrito coupon in my pocket.
The Boloco staff are really nice, and it's a nice bright and clean space if working beside your Teriyaki burrito is your thing... -

The current 3.5 star average seems about right. The burrito is a great vehicle for all kinds of delicious things, so I have no problem with a burrito place that doesn't serve anything resembling an authentic burrito. I've had the summer burrito (the one with the mango salsa) and the Cajun burrito, and both were fairly tasty but also kind of dry. Maybe I'm just used to disgustingly unhealthy burritos loaded with guacamole.
I also appreciate a burrito establishment that is a place for students to sit and work. -

I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed Boloco before now. Seriously, from the first bite of my summer about two years ago, I haven't looked back. Nowadays, I order from here probably about once a week. Sure, it's not "authentic," but it's delicious. Face it. Also, they deliver.
The past two weeks, Boloco has been having a birthday special, where there's some kind of deal on a different burrito or burrito and smoothie every day. Being a complete sucker for marketing, I've bought at least half of these specials. This is a good thing, because I'm fairly positive that I've only eaten the summer before these past two weeks. Now, however, I've been exposed to the vast array of Boloco flavors. I was a fan of the teriyaki in particular. Broccoli in a burrito? nom nom nom nommmm.
The people are friendly, and it's pretty clean. The upholstery on the chairs is getting kinda dingy, though. That's just a pet peeve, I guess.
Oh, and the fact that you can put tofu on any burrito makes this vegan very happy.Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 3/15/2011

We live around the corner from this Boloco location, and it never disappoints. The Classic Mexican and the Summer burritos are my personal favorites, and my husband always orders the buffalo chicken.
Their habanero salsa is delicious--very spicy, but that's what you expect when you order habanero salsa--and adds the perfect amount of kick. The guacamole is all right; nothing to write home about, but not bad.
The smoothies are also great; I've had the Nutella shake, which is like a meal in itself, and the mango-passion smoothie, which is delicious and even relatively healthy, made with mango, mango juice and nonfat frozen yogurt. Actually, as I write this review, my mango smoothie is sitting in the freezer, waiting for me to finish it for dessert, since my Summer burrito bowl left me too full (never a bad thing).
The only thing I would say is--if you're getting takeout, check your order before you leave. The last two times I've been there, they've messed up my order in some way and I didn't realize until we got home. So just take a peek in the bag to make sure everything's as you ordered it; they're very obliging if something's amiss.
Also, a BIG point in favor of Boloco, especially compared with most other fast-food chains, is that all of their packaging and silverware is 100% compostable. Also, they're a local establishment, so when you eat there you're supporting a small(er) Boston business.Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 7/15/2011

I've been a devoted Chipotle customer for some time now (especially since they opened a location that I can WALK to from my office - really, you have no idea how amazing that is). But yesterday, I decided I'd finally give Boloco a try... I was not disappointed. So very much not disappointed, in fact, that I went back again for lunch today.
Where Boloco really shines is in their menu of really unique, definitely-not-Mexican-or-even-Tex-Mex burrito flavors. So far I've tried the Memphis BBQ burrito with chicken (rice, beans, BBQ sauce, and creamy cole slaw) and the buffalo chicken burrito (rice, beans, celery, chicken, buffalo sauce, and I subbed in sour cream for the icky blue cheese dressing that comes standard). Both of these were truly outstanding, totally filling, and a welcome change from the "would you like the slightly less spicy salsa or the slightly more spicy salsa" options that are available elsewhere.
Don't get me wrong, I still love Chipotle (and I still DREAM of their guacamole) - but I've also grown to love Boloco and the slightly different but still thoroughly delicious product they have to offer. Hooray for new regular lunch spots!Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 12/23/2010

I walked into The Wrap on Newbury Street one hot day 10 years ago for a smoothie. I don't exactly remember what I got but I knew it was good enough that I wanted to come back to try a burrito sometime soon.
10 years later...
I think I'm the last person in this city to try Boloco, but I decided to swing by on the way back home. The decor and service aren't anything special.
It's probably a better summer burrito place than Anna's. The steak inside the burrito was lukewarm/cool. Good thing it was a hot day, because this would've been unpleasant during the winter. The cheese wasn't melted, which was a little surprising to me. The hot sauce I ordered was spicy enough. The rice was fine, though nothing spectacular. The vegetables inside (lettuce, cukes, etc.) tasted pretty fresh. Overall, the steak burrito was pretty good.
The burritos kinda contrast the Anna's ones, as the latter are generally super hot when you get them. So hot, that by the time you bring it back home, the lettuce is steamed. Boloco's burritos don't really taste traditional - taste more like wraps or a cold fajita. But it's definitely more enjoyable to eat than the crap you get at Qdoba...Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 10/20/2010

Review from Erin M.
Although the debate may continue about where to find a top notch burrito in the very un-Mexican Boston area, I must profess my love for the Medford Boloco, which strives to satisfy you with not only yummy food but delicious smoothies and some killer customer service. Sure, I've seen Boloco just about everywhere as they shower the city with free burritos by means of unique marketing campaigns but rarely had I been compelled to buy food from there until recently and one of those times was a big, huge, gigantic order that maybe involved 200 burritos (yes, 200).
I worked out a sponsorship with Boloco's marketing department to get a fantastic deal for a dance exchange that I was the donation coordinator for to secure 200 burritos. That's a lot. Oh, and I needed to get them late at night because I would be serving them after midnight. That's easy, right? There were some communication flaws with the marketing department but Jen, one of the store's managers worked tirelessly with me the day of to fix everything and get all of my burritos wrapped and ready for the time I needed them. She even secured an additional discount for me to help my organization save money.
When I arrived around 10:00 pm to pick up my 200 burritos, other staff members helped carry them to my car and I was told that extra staff was called in the help prepare our burritos as well to make sure we had what we needed. Apparently, I was a very important person.
But what about taste? The unique combinations of teriyaki chicken, summer steak, classic veggie, and buffalo chicken (my personal favorite) were huge hits at the event. Definitely worth the effort and I am now a big fan of Boloco, at least the Medford store.
As for smoothies, they can whip up a mean Cape Codder that has a delicious cranberry flavor and non-fat yogurt. Perfect for a summer day! (And don't forget they offer salads too!)
Even in a clutch, the Medford Boloco, and Jen in particular, is on its game and ready to feed you so go sort-of-Mexican it up.Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 7/13/2010

Don't bother going on a sunday night, they are out of EVERYTHING. The only thing they could give me was a a burrito (the tortilla still a bit frozen), two pieces of steak, squishy over cooked rice and tomatoes. The thing is my mother owned a cafe, I know how frustrating it is to be out of things and having annoying college kids breathing down your neck and giving you attitude when there is nothing you can do! I am also the annoying college kid that took out a loan to pay for these meal "points" and I have a final and presentation and a paper to do, I want my fast, delicious, hand held meal that I was promised in the funky musical website!
When they have delivered, the food is a little bland and textureless. It's all the same consistency; squishy and needing salt. This one time I had eaten at Qdoba for lunch and then for "Lunner" my boyfriend brought back boloco (he didn't know I had already ate... what a sweetie... so I pretended I hadn't) two bites in I had to tell him, it was just so anemic and heavy compared to what I already ate, I couldn't take another bite.
Now that I have been out of school for a bit, i no longer dependent on tufts "dining dollars"... I will spend cash on Qdoba. More flavor, better prices, and very little college kid traffic. So why you ask, two stars instead of one? Their cookies are sex. Sex and crack... in a cookie. Seriously get one, or five. -
Review from Tamar A.
Freaking Boloco.
Here's the thing: sometimes a bangkok or a buffalo REALLY hits the spot. I won't lie. This location, however, is staffed by imbeciles--I work in the service industry myself, I KNOW it sucks, but please, make everyone's day more enjoyable, and if you can't do the whole eye contact thing, at LEAST get the order right. I went with a friend and both of us got burritos a size smaller than we paid for, plus his "extra meat" went missing, while I got the wrong burrito entirely. Fortunately, the folks up at BolocoCorp sent me a card with two free burritos on it for my troubles, without even asking for a receipt. This strikes me as good for me, but really shoddy management, even up top.
And speaking of those at the top... I'm (recently) a Tufts student. Boloco opened in the middle of my second year there. Suddenly they were marketing themselves as a Tufts Institution, with notable Tufts landmarks framed on the walls, a Tufts jersey hanging, etc. Now, I can understand appealing to one's target market, but you can't just be a chain, force yourself in somewhere, and act like you're indispensable to the campus. I wasn't the only one who felt this way. You're tasty, Boloco, but annoying. -
Review from Babs P.
San Francisco, CA
The good thing about this location is that it's next to Tufts and they have free wireless. The service is decent and fast, and the place has been empty the two times i've been, which is nice if you want to hang out and study.
I would've given them three stars except I don't really care for the food. What they serve are more "wraps" than "burritos", and I just don't care for them whatever they're called.
Los burritos son repugnantes! -
Review from Kiwi H.
This is probably one of my favourite Bolocos. First, I'd just like to say that I love Boloco. For all the authentic burrito vs. non-authentic burrito debates, my take is this: I loved Boloco back when it was called The Wrap, and that's still how I think of it except they now have more colourful, fun decor. And it's more fun to say 'Boloco'. I don't go here looking for authentic Mexican food or burritos - if I wanted that, I'd go to a Mexican or authentic burrito place! I go here because I love their wraps, they're tasty and have good ingredients (all humanely raised, hormone-free meats), the tortillas are perfectly warm and soft, they're always a good size and I actually get cravings for my faves.
As for this particular location - well, it's run by Sal, who I believe also runs the one in Davis. He's really nice (never met him but messaged before), and I know I'm not the only one who thinks he's great - last Christmas, a whole slew of Tufts students and organizations wrote thank-you cards to him and this Boloco for being so great and they were displayed proudly on the counter. I thought it was really cute. I like how they've retained the "Tufts love" that the previous business in this spot (Jay's Deli) always had - the staff sometimes wears Tufts sweatshirts, and there's Tufts memorabilia framed and hung up everywhere. As a Tufts alum, it makes me feel fonder of this spot, and the memories of Jay's too and how they loved Tufts too.
The staff are always friendly, smiling, efficient here, and have always been great to me with whatever I need. The place is usually clean and has decent music playing. I don't go here that often since I no longer live in the area, but I do wish my 'local' Boloco was more like this one - in some Bolocos, I do eat-in but usually not with such a 'get yourself comfy here!' attitude like this one. And this one delivers at times too! My only regret is that this place didn't open up earlier. I did love Jay's when it used to be in this spot, but I'm a huge Boloco fan and I know that if they opened while I was still at Tufts, I would have come here a lot more often. -
Review from Carol O.

I completely agree that Boloco serves wraps, not burritos. Sure a few of their options are burrito-like...but let's be honest here.
That said, I still like what they offer. It's healthier than some other options, especially ones in this area. As for any Chipotle comparisons, I actually like it better. I just feel like Boloco's wraps seem fresher.
The staff here is awesome. They are perfectly willing to put up with all my "make your own burrito" requests (and don't look annoyed). Plus, they actually listen when you ask for "just a little" of something.
Only 4 stars though because it seems like everyone makes the shakes/smoothies differently. In most cases, they wind up like juice rather than something thick and creamy. For some of the fruit options that's fine, but for the awesome Jimmy Carter, you kind of want that milkshake texture. -

Good healthy option in an area where healthy is hard to come by.
The problem? Delivery can be a bit of an adventure, in terms of getting your order correctly.

I went here within their first 2 weeks of opening this location. The only reason why I would go back is if I was too lazy to drive to Anna's in Davis and I had a coupon for a free Boloco burrito. Maybe that's harsh b/c they had just opened and still working out the kinks, so maybe they're better now. But they'll never beat Anna's, no matter how many smoothies they give me. As far as constructive feedback....the tortilla was cold/warm not hot. the rice was cold/warm and all falling everywhere, it wasn't hot and kind of smooshy. they try too hard with their meat flavors combining all these crazy spices, not having any confidence in the meat itself. It just didn't taste hot and fresh. Kind of tasted like they could've made the same thing in a gas station. On the plus side, the place was clean and their bags have handles! Always handy!
Update 8/20/07:
So, due to the overflowing kindness of the General Manager, Sal, I went back to Boloco the other night. The smoothies were awesome, the Berry Blitz I'd get over and over again. And the burritos are making a positive transition from wrap-ville to burrito-town. Just don't expect them to be like Anna's burritos. It's a completely different style and flavor, each has their own place in my belly. Also, they have killer breakfast burritos. The Chorizo one is my favorite. Thanks for everything, Sal. -

A great alternative to the typical burrito. Ever since Boloco started delivering (yes, burritos delivered) the place has been going nuts. Nothing is more satisfying than a Buffalo Chicken Burrito along with a Jimmy Carter Smoothie.
I must eat hear at least twice a week and it has everything I want. Quick service, healthy lunch food, parking, and with a Boloco Card you'll be eating for free in no time.
The free wifi is also a nice touch for the college community.

I've been going here for years, primarily because of their buffalo burrito. I'm a sucker for buffalo wing sauce. Further, their portions are reasonable, and stay in the tightly wrapped burrito. This is a big deal if you're eating on the run.
It's reliable, reasonably healthy, reasonably priced food. Bonus points for a local company. If they're taking suggestions, I'd say:
- better furniture in the dining area. The stuff you have (along with the concrete floor) makes it a punishment to dine-in
- my stomach says your meat could be fresher, or at least stored more carefully
- turn the A/C down a tad. In the summer, the temperature differential is ridiculous. -

I've tried the white meat chicken, steak and pork Mexican burritos and the orange, strawberry banana smoothie so far, but I really need to try some of the other combos soon. I'll be back for sure! -

The smoothies at Boloco are awesome. The food is good, too, but the smoothies are so fresh and amazing.
As an employee of Tufts, I'm so happy that Boloco is willing to provide free burritos for events around campus. The advertisement it provides is helping to keep Boloco open (there were rumors last year that this one was going out of business). It makes the events much more marketable, fun, tasty, and exciting.Comment from Boloco B. of Boloco - Tufts University 7/19/2010

I want to like Boloco a lot more. They're local, they have smoothies, good service, good selection of food, and they sponsor cool events...but the burritos and wraps aren't that good :( Kind of bland and mushy.
I go there once in a while because I can't get smoothies at too many places, and the service has always been pretty friendly. -

1) I love Boloco (hate their new menu look, but that's minor aesthetics, so it's like, get over it)
2) The other day, amidst a study marathon, I realized I hadn't eaten in ages. I found the strength to get to Boloco at 9PM, walked in, and told the bro behind the counter, "Dude. I need a burrito. Just, let's get one rolling. I can't make decisions right now." He asked if I like mango salsa, I said yes, and so I got a summer burrito with chicken, all within minutes. Exactly what I needed.
3) I personally think Boloco beats out the other joints, hands down, all the time. -

What's a Boloco?
Anyway, this place is pretty good. I like that they have 2 regular size burritos for 8 bucks after 4 pm. And I like their interesting combinations. It's not as good as Chipotle, but then again, it's more of a contemporary-not-quite-authentic burrito anyway. And there's no Chipotle around here anyway. :(
They are a good stanby if you're sick of pizza and subs. -

For New England, this isn't too bad.
I am still a bigger fan of Chipotle, but this is a short walk from my work. The prices good and there is enough to fill you up for under $7.
I got the Regular Cajun with Steak today and had the guy pour in a bunch of the Tabasco Chipotle Sauce when he made it. It was just enough to fill me up for lunch without getting overly stuffed. I have tried the regular burrito also and it is fine.
Is this real Mexican Food? No. Is it good for a quick lunch or maybe even a fast dinner? Yes.
Fast, filling, cheap, not greasy... -

The burritos are okay. Not much to say about them.
I really like the Cape Codder smoothie, though. It's ace. Try it!
In general, I recommend getting your burrito as a bowl instead of wrapped up. That way you can guarantee you get everything in every bite--I find that when I bite into a Boloco burrito, sometimes all I get is rice, sometimes all I get is meat, sometimes all I get is sauce (ick!), etc.
