Years ago, I used to be a size 18, and wish that I had known about this place back then!

I visit occasionally, even though the clothes are all too big for me (sizes 10 to 24) because in addition to clothing from local designers, they have a fun selection for girly girls and vampy Ladies of leisure: lacy gloves, sexy pasties, cute stationery, delectable bath accessories, pretty jewelry, things to make you feel like a sassy girl-next-door or work of vintage pin-up art. Yumma yumma!

Local clothing isn't always affordable for people who live in an expensive city, and a lot of plus-sized women are different shapes, so while I can understand and recognize other reviewers' gripes about cost or fit, I salute the owners for trying to make women feel like red-hot mamas. Keep it up!

Postpartum, I now find myself with a redistributed size 16 body and no clothes that fit.  So I've now stopped in at Bodacious a couple of times, looking for something I could wear, both everyday and for work.

My first and main impression of the store was serious sticker shock:  Holy expensive knit dresses and skirts, Batman!  Most everything in the store is made of polyester knit or bamboo knit or blended knit -- knit, knit, knit, ad nauseum.  A knit skirt will run you $125.  One of the only dresses I saw in the place that wasn't made from stretchy knit fabric was $325.  $325!  They wanted $150 for a white nightgown -- for that kind of money, they should find a way to make it flattering and sexy on a plus-sized woman, but no, this was just a girly white tent.

I tried on two knit dresses, since I wasn't going to entertain $325 for a dress that was too goth for work.  One was on sale for 50% off $125 or so.  Once on, I found that it had been cut to be clingy.  I don't know many size 16 women who can pull off clingy knit; I'm certainly not one of them, but do I have to go up to 3x to get something that doesn't cling?  The other dress (for $125) was okay, except that the empire waist made me look pregnant.  I might as well just dig out my maternity clothes -- they cost less and were more fashionable.

This visit was entirely consistent with my first visit.  What is the assumption that all plus-sized women want to wear jersey knit?  Is there some assumption that we don't work or we don't work in jobs where we need to look professional?   Or are the designers just too lazy to learn how to cut clothes for plus-sized women?

I do appreciate that these are local designers.  But in my smaller incarnations, I've shopped other stores around the city that carry local designers, and (big shock) they seem to carry something other than jersey knit.  I'm just as willing as anyone else to spend decent money to get a cool local design; I'm just not willing to spend a lot of money to get a frumpy knit skirt priced so high simply because larger women have few other options.

Bodacious frustrated and disappointed me.  A store for plus-sized women shouldn't cater to the stereotypes about plus-sized women, but Bodacious seems to.

A few months ago I went into Bodacious with a friend who's quite thin, and noticed as soon as we walked in, everyone was staring at her in an unfriendly way. The customers, the store clerks, all were giving her glares. Everytime she spoke up, they'd stop talking and move away, disregarding her entirely, and not offering her any assistance when she was looking through the collection trying to find something for me to buy.

I get that it's a plus sized store, I'm a plus sized girl, and it's nice to have a refuge from every other store filled with Plastics, but my friend suffers from a serious eating disorder - the reason she's so thin! She felt horrified by all the negative attention she was shown, and I promised I'd never take her there again. It was pretty brutal.

That being said they've got a nice selection of clothing and accessories - if I felt like I wanted to shop there again (which I don't), I'd definitely go back.

Great clothes for "sizes 10 to 24", some local designers, lots of stylish retro selections - l love Bodacious!

On our latest visit we saw great basic dresses & wonderful circle skirts embellished with all sorts of fanciful designs.  You can find basics (including lingerie, leggings & some shoes) to fancy, party appropriate wear (including jewelry).  Prices run from reasonable (my girl, Seri, scored some cute turquoise leggings for around $25) to kinda pricey (some skirts & dresses in the $150++ range).  I think the quality & uniqueness of their offerings justify the prices.

Super friendly people (they remember us even though we only get to visit 1 or 2x a year) and great hard to find pieces for us "big girls" make this a must stop.

This location is closing on April 15, 2011 and relocating to Gibsons, BC. They claim that they'll have an "active online presence", but I'm sad to see them go, even though I was finding fewer and fewer items in store that I liked.

Fantastic clothes, and I really liked their secondhand racks as well. The staff is really friendly, and it's fantastic to see such good-looking clothes in my size - I just wish I could get there more often!

Bodacious is awesome. Gorgeous clothing featuring local designers, great jewellery - they've got everything you need to get fabulous, in an array of sizes often overlooked by stores because they don't want to deal with plus sized women. Their loss is our gain, because we get places like Bodacious!

Saw this place when I was on vacation in Vancouver for my birthday this year. We were driving by on our way to another store and had to do a U-turn "There is a plus size store called Bodacious! I HAVE to go there!" is pretty much how it went. They had a really great selection of clothes I've never seen before. I wish I had found out about this place at the beginning of my vacation rather than the end. I had already spent pretty much all of my expendable cash, so I couldn't get any of the really cute dresses I wanted so badly. I will definatly be back next time I'm up in Vancouver. The woman working there was also super nice and helpful. She was telling me about another plus size store that was opening up soon and that they were having a big party. She also recommended a place to grab a quick dinner before we hit the road to head home to Seattle. It was a Roti place down the street. So amazing!
