I love this place. Yes, it's a bit of a dive, but the drinks are very reasonably priced and I've always liked the food I've ordered. Their onion rings are crispy and delicious!
One of my favourite parts is that they DON'T have the music turned up so loud you have to scream to the person sitting across the table from you. I've never understood why some pubs do this. Bob the Fish is a great place to get a drink with some friends, especially if you want the 17th Ave. experience without the lineups and inflated prices of other joints. -

Let's make this short and sweet:
-Great location (17th Ave)
-Great food
-Great service
-Enthusiastic crowd
-Friendly people
-Reasonably priced drinks
-TVs so you can watch the game
Overall - a good place to chill with a group of friends. -

We came here after a hockey game on a Friday night, mostly because it had the shortest line-up to get in on 17th. But the bar actually has a lot going on inside. It isn't too big, which makes it ideal for sitting around and having a few beers and a conversation. We had to share a table because it was so busy, but we got to know our neighbours as the night wore on.
They have a good selection of draught and the atmosphere is perfect for a Friday night. I'll be back.... -

The first time I ended up in Bob the Fish was on a friday night when every other place on 17th was full. Literally. It was midnight in the summer, we'd stayed too late at a friend's house, and there were fifteen of us all looking for somewhere fun to go. The Mercury? full. Same with every other Loungeish bar on the strip. Bob the Fish was able to accomodate our numbers. The insides were those of a typical sports bar, drink prices were on par with most of 17th ave. The crowd has always veered to the male side of things, usually a bit older. I've never tried the food. I've been back under similar circumstances a few times (especially after a game). It's just a bar.
I like the name because I once had a fish named Bob. But it won't ever be my chosen destination on International ave. Thoroughly ok. -

It was only right that I invited an old friend from Yellowknife to Bob the Fish Tavern on 4th because the tavern itself reminded us both of popular bars up north especially the drinking hole the Taku in Whitehorse. I was in the mood for a brew and comfort food, and Bob's did meet the requirements needed to fill up these two Northern Canadian gals.
Sheila our waitress was accordingly donning her Flames jersey and we found out that she too lived in Inuvik for awhile and was from Northern Saskatchewan, my side of the planet so it made for an even "happier meal"
I dove into a huge Lasagne with Garlic Toast and my lovely friend Ali chowed down on a Bob's Burger with home cut fries. Both meals were washed down with frosty Canadian beer and enticing and sometimes indecent conversation. The Tavern was sparse tonight even though it was 20 cent Wednesday Wing Night. Probably too darn cold.
But we heated it up with our spirits and Bob's spirits and I must say I had a very warm and satisfying meal at the ol' BTFT tonight.
The only complaint about Bob is NO DESSERT, its okay I didn't need the extra calories. Cheers! -

I am NOT a fan of Bob The Fish.
I'm not one for harsh reviews, but seriously. This place is dingy, the food is sub-par, the atmosphere is loud and low-budget with any kitch factor.
Do not ever, ever order a Salad. I've done this twice (I don't know why I tried more than once) and each time the lettuce was wilty and tasted like it had been frozen at one point. The chicken on the salad was on par to a McNugget without the breading - it was rubbery and greasy and awful.
The service is not the worst, and the beer selection is good, but with all the selection on the 17th Av/ 4th St area, it's easy to find a place of quality near by. (See Ship & Anchor, Rose & Crown, etc) -

Bob the Fish is located in an excellent bar, but the place isn't all that special. They offer an array of your standard pub cuisine at hefty prices that isn't really justified by the sub-standard food. They offer drink specials though and a decent venue to sit and share a beer with a buddy or two.
One of my main complaints is that the place is usually a total sausage party. Not only that, most of them are old men. Bob the fish is okay, but I'd prefer somewhere a little more hopping. -

I don't need to spend much time on this.
Great location,
Nice barman,
Good size, neither too big or too small.
BUT!
Lacklustre 'food',
It needs a good deep cleaning all over,
Same old watery tasteless fizzy lemonade that stands for Canadian and American beer these days (Bud, Coors, Canadian, Labatts, kokanee, Big Rock Trad etc).
Distracting tacky bar electronic games,
Distracting 'me too' big screens showing things that one can watch at home.
One goes to a bar/pub to talk to people, not look over their shoulder to watch the oilers v toronto for the 24th game that week.
In short, it is largely like every other 'me too' Calgary bar.
Nothing of merit, apart from the nice barman(s).
I'd go in for bottomless coffee and a chat with some pals, but thats about it. -

Beer, steak sandwiches, and a seat with a view of where uptown 17th ave and trendy 4th street meet- nothing fancy but not bad either if you enjoy people watching.
