BMO Field, home of MLS Toronto FC is a nice field.

It's not a particularly large field, but its seats bring you, the fan, very close to the pitch and gives you a front row feel to the soccer game being played.  It's a huge improvement over facilities that use American football stadiums to host their city's MLS soccer games.
    http://en.wikipedia.or...

When at BMO, there's no mistaking what the home team's color is: Red.

My friend and I watched a game here in May between Toronto FC and the Vancouver WhiteCaps, for the finals of the Canada Cup.  Unfortunately for us, the game was suspending due to a torrential downpour.  Most of the stands are not covered, so everyone became drenched.  Luckily for us, ponchos were sold at the stadium and was not a rip off.

The only other soccer field I have been to is Red Bull Arena in NJ.  Although it is newer, 2006 vs. 2010, and larger, it is not as viewer and fan-friendly.  I feels too large and separates the fans from the pitch by too far of a distance.

We went to the home opener for the TFC at the BMO field this weekend for the first time and what a great stadium! Every seat in that place is close enough that you get an incredible view of the game.

    The crowd is electric!

The washrooms were shockingly very clean (though the hand driers are rubbish)! The view of the Toronto Skyline if you sit on the west side of the stadium like we did is absolutely beautiful (check out the photo).

Two 28oz beers (which is the equivalent to a pitcher of beer!) ran us about $25-$30. Pretty reasonably priced considering you're at a sporting event and should expect to pay a fortune if you want to drink. They stop serving this size after halftime.

The parking is abundant and only $13 (not bad considering public transit for two there and back would be $12).

Oh and I should point out, they've recently switched the pitch to real grass instead of Astroturf .

Overall this was an A+ experience. GO Toronto GO!

****TIP: Bring a blanket to sit on...it makes those seats WAY more comfortable and doubles as warmth early in the season.

Ahhh my second home.  Supporting TFC is like having a girlfriend.  It can make you feel excited, frustrated and crying yourself to sleep depending on the result of the game.  BMO field is an awesome stadium for two reasons: the supporters and the location.  TFC's rabid and loyal fans keep flocking to cheer for their beloved REDS no matter how good or crappy the team is playing.  If you want to stand and sing do yourself a favour and sit as close to the south stand or the dedicated supporters areas.  If you are going with kids and want to keep their ears somewhat innocent keep far away from the supporters groups as possible.  Located at the CNE grounds, transportation to BMO is a breeze.  TTC, GO, driving or walking there is super easy.

The beer is out of this world expensive.  $13.50 for a 28 oz.  That being said it's available everywhere and beer boys/girls do a great job of making sure your thirst stays quenched without having to get out of the stands.
The food is great with really good variety but I've never had any of it.  I'm sure it's also expensive.
The plastic turf is an eye sore and even worse to play on.  The sooner it goes the better.

Getting tickets is damn near impossible but if you do it's well worth checking out.

Wow. I must say that Toronto FC fans definitely change the face of Canadian sportsmanship. So much screaming, cheering, feet stomping and beer drinking. This ain't no Blue Jays game! I went last weekend and the stands were absolutely packed!

We were lucky enough to get a seat right behind the goal and the game was absolutely amazing. Every time a goal is scored, confetti goes everywhere, streamers are thrown and people literally freak right out. I've been to basketball games, hockey games and baseball games but I have never seen such fanatical sports fans in my life! And the tickets were only about $20 bucks, so you really do a get a lot of bang for your buck and something every Torontonian should experience at least once!

Just a note, if you want to keep drinking after the game, make sure to try and head out a little early to the Brazenhead down the street. It's a great post-game bar but it fills up REALLY fast after a TFC match!

WOW, what can I say about BMO field and let alone Toronto FC!? Quite possibly the greatest FOOTBALL (yes that is what it's called!) fan base in North America (minus Mexico.. which means just between Canada and US), you will have a GREAT time at the stadium.

The stadium holds about 21,000 people and due to its small size, anywhere you get a seat is most likely a very good seat! You will always be able to watch the game on the pitch without any trouble and they have a great screen for replays! Their fan zone is awesome and is always filled with people and the crowd is ABSOLUTELY nuts which makes it sooooo much more enjoyable (plus their tickets aren't ridiculously expensive like the Leafs, you can get very good seats for $50 depending on the game).

Only downside is their SUPER expensive beer and food but I guess that comes with almost all stadiums. Anyways if you feel like watching some football and want to have some fun, wear some red and get your ass down to BMO field and cheer on the greatest football team in Canada!

If you're a fan of soccer (or "football" to everyone else save the Americans), you always heard the stories from friends who have travelled far afield to countries in Europe or South America and heard tales of the type of atmosphere that comes with Match Day.  There's the pre-game drinks, the walk to the stadium, the packed venue, the screaming, the chants, the songs, the post-game drinks.  It'd be cool if you didn't have to fly to Europe for that.  As long as Toronto's been waiting for some sort of professional soccer team, it has waited equally long for a soccer-specific stadium to house the matches.  BMO Field answers that need and delivers a truly unique fan experience.

Constructed in time for Toronto FC's inaugural season, it is an open-air stadium holding over 20,000.  There are stands on the west, south and east sides with the north being an open standing-room-only-beer-tent type affair.  Care has been given to ensure that there is not an obstructed sight-line or admittedly a bad seat in the house.  Even the arguably worst seat in the house (furthest up and to the extreme far left or right on the main stand, provides a decent view.

Refreshments abound.  Yes, you can get the regular staples of pizza, hot dogs, you know, the usual.  Go to the north side stands where you'll be able to find scotch eggs, chip butties (a French fry sandwich that if you've not tried, you have to), and other typical football-y fare.  Beer is sold pretty much everywhere in the stadium.  Probably a good thing since the majority of the TFC fans show up thirsty.

The central part of the west and east stands are the places where you're able to sit and watch the match without much bother from anyone around you.  This is probably where you do not want to sit.  Get to the south-side stands where not only is the atmosphere chaotic, it is typically a non-stop pulsing mass of people singing, chanting and bouncing.  You'll be lucky if uttering the phrase "Sit down please, I can't see!" ends happily with merely a stern look shot your way and then the continuation of business as usual.  Bedlam.

There are a couple of drawbacks with the stadium, one being the pitch itself.  It is artificial turf and though top of the line, it still is artificial.  Though, given Toronto's climate and the costs associated with real turf, this can be forgiven.  On the plus side, during the winters, a dome is placed over the field allowing several six-a-side games to carry on throughout the cold months.  Speaking of miserable weather, don't bother bringing umbrellas to BMO Field if it's looking like rain.  For security reasons, umbrellas are not allowed in the seats.  Buy a poncho, make sure your shoes are Scotch-Guarded, and above all else, make sure you keep a lid on your beer.

Being here for the better part of the last few years I know BMO Field inside and out. The stands are pretty good especially the North side where the video board is. I would have preferred a cover through out the whole stadium but this is the game of soccer in Canada.... don't be soft about it. The line ups for the food and washrooms are ridiculously long. However I don't buy food or drinks at the game so it doesn't apply to me. I don't go to the washroom because by the time I do what I have to do the second half has started. The field itself is pretty good with nice grass with an electric atmosphere. This place is pretty good.

"Stand up for the TFC! Stand up for the TFC!"....

Lucky to have been to several Toronto FC soccer games this past season (TFC is Toronto's Major League Soccer team), I have had the pleasure of experiencing a torrential rain storm, getting soaked to the bone, having beer spilled all over my head, all while watching the game, and you know what; I barely noticed!

The atmosphere and incredibly loyal fan base (for a team that's only been around for 2 seasons and haven't made playoffs) is INCREDIBLE!

BMO Field was created as home base for our MLS team. Long overdue in a city of international football fanatics, the people of Toronto went crazy when they discovered a team was coming and a brand new field was being made for them.

Tickets sold out immediately, fan clubs were formed and BMO Field was christened with the rowdiest and yet, most appreciative fans for any Toronto sporting team. It is located on the Exhibition Place grounds, has a massive parking lot, and is also TTC accessible. On game day you will see the streets lined with red and fans rallying anyone and everyone who will pay attention to their chants and cheers.

The TFC and BMO Field are forever synonymous with each other, but BMO Field is also Canada's National Soccer Stadium and is helping to build a strong soccer foundation all around the country.

Most of the reviews for BMO Field on yelp gush over the crowd and fan support during TFC games, and I agree, the atmosphere is pure electricity. That's why I have season's tickets.

But to give the stadium itself a five star rating is a little much don't you think? First of all, the pitch is not even real grass. The play on a rubber field for crying out loud. When it is raining the ball bounces around like they are playing in a school gym. Also, the food at the concession stands is sub par. The only items edible made in the stadium are the BBQ sausages and hot dogs (it is basically what most in Toronto know as 'street meat'). And even if you want to get some food at a concession stand you are guaranteed to miss part of the game because the service is so slow.

Despite all this, I have a great time whenever I go to a game because I get my food and drink on before I get to the stadium. And despite the poor quality of the pitch, I enjoy the game because win or lose, I'm there to cheer on the Reds!

TFC! (clap, clap, clap!) TFC! (clap, clap, clap!) TFC! (clap, clap, clap!)

I love the idea of BMO field, but in actuality my Facebook status update from a recent night spent in its friendly confines sums my experience up  best.  I wrote something to the effect that the highlight of my night had been the time spent under the artificial heaters in the men's washroom.  Which it undeniably was.

A friend recently purchased tickets for the Nutrilite Canadian Championship final between the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Toronto FC in late May and the weather was absolutely atrocious.  I do point some of the blame in the direction of mother nature and her unrelenting ferocity, however the venue did little if anything to combat the situation.

As the hard flying rain off Lake Ontario pelted me in the face from every angle imaginable I couldn't help but notice the lack of field coverage.  we were essentially sitting ducks for mother natures exacting wrath, there was no protection in the form of a roof (standard in most outdoor stadiums), or any other form of makeshift awning.  We were forced to seek refuge in the unheated, and only partially covered concourse, jostling for position closest to the nearest beer cart.  After sidling up to a beer cart, reaching into our pockets and sifting through drenched bills we attempted to get said beer, we were both asked for ID, (not a problem), yet when my friend produced his British Columbia identification they initially refused to accept this.  So you can imagine the mood that we were in.  Cold, bored and sober, not what you typically go for when partaking in a live sporting event, or any sporting event for that matter.

Eventually the crowd thinned out as it became a near certainty that the game would cease to continue and we were able to get a prime spot next to the urinals under the one and only heater in the men's washroom.  This would become our temporary sanctum for the better part of two hours.  When the game did get called, the first rain out in Toronto FC history we were informed there was no defined refund policy.  It wouldn't be until several days later that my friend learned the steps necessary to refund his ticket, as he would not be able to make the rescheduled game due to geographical constraints.

Small things could make all the difference in the world to the successful operation of BMO Field-things like adequate coverage, paper towels in the washrooms, a heated and fully covered concourse and defined refund policies in the event that mother nature shows her teeth.  That is all.

Went here for MLS Cup 2010. I'm an LA Galaxy season ticket holder and spend the better part of 6 months a year in an MLS stadium and BMO is pretty nice. It wins big for it's "central" location compared to other MLS stadiums and for one of the bare bones style stadiums (columbus, bucks shaw) it is the nicest set-up that I have seen.
