Review from Mike S.

The St.Lawrence Centre for the Arts (Bluma Appel Theatre)
is one of the best places in Toronto
to see theatre. This isn't the cutting edge stuff that you find at
Factory or Tarragon, but it always has Canadian content and what it does
have that Tarragon and Factory lack is money. One of the best plays
I've ever seen was at The St.Lawrence Centre for the Arts and I saw
what theatre could be if it had the funding to do what ever it wanted.
The auditorium is the perfect size for theatre , it is large enough to
let you know where you are but it is small enough to feel intamate. The
seats are comfortable and they all match which you might think is a
strange comment but if you've been to other theatres in Toronto this is
no guarantee. The prices are a bit higher that you'd find at other
smaller theatres but they are considerably more reasonable than any
Mirvish production and the quality is better too. I would definitely
recommend the St.Lawrence Centre for the Arts because it's a quality
building at a reasonable price.

Review from Todd V.

When I worked at Canadian Stage (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), part of my job was going to see theatre, and specifically, plays in our theatre. This way, when people ask us about the show, we would be able to tell them how good it was, how painful it was, or how it compared to other theatre in the city. Not a bad job to have. Whenever Canadian Stage put anything on the big stage, they did so in the St. Lawrence Centre (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...), at the Bluma Appel theatre, the largest of the two theatres in the St. Lawrence Centre.
With a large main floor, large balcony, and boxes available, the Bluma Appel theatre is a great venue with acoustics to match. Musicals and dramas alike are performed here in a great facility. Regardless whether the show is great or crap, at least they're playing on a decent stage. With no obstructions or posts to hinder the view, the crowd is able to see and hear everything that goes on the stage. That may be a good thing or a bad thing depending upon the show, obviously. Just know that when you get tickets for the Bluma Appel theatre, you'll be able to blame a post for the reason you did and enjoy the show.
