This is a great place to take visitors! Or when you feel like having a nice lunch on a bright day!

The prices are great, the staff are fantastic! The food is simple and reminds me of home cooking. It has local favorites with fresh ingredients!

My Aunt took me here today after a long day of Market walking and I was really impressed with the food and the inside of the place.

I ordered a Hot Turkey Sandwich with a glass of water, and when it came on the table I was surprised. It looked and by far tasted delicious. The gravy was perfect and the bread was nice and soft. The fries were really good too along with the veggies.

After eating we both ordered the coconut creme pie, and to be honest wasn't as great as my Aunt said it was going to be. The cream topping was really good and sweet, but the second layer kind of felt like it was on display for awhile as the outer layer had a slight rubbery feeling, and the crust was really bland kind of like white rice (tasted like it as well).

All in all the restaurant is a great place to sit and eat with a friend, family member, or a group of people. Great service, atmosphere, interior, and prices.

This is a downtown mainstay here in Halifax, and although I don't go all that often, it's a good breakfast, brunch or lunch location. I like their omlettes and the homefries have a nice seasoning on them. Lots of Greek and pasta dishes on the menu, as well as the assumed seafood options.

Like Ben B. says, "the Bluenose is fantastic for what it is." I like the homey vibe, the paper placemats, and the harried yet witty servers who've likely been there for years.

My only thing that holds it back from a fourth star is that when it comes to the basics - a breakfast plate or burger - the prices feel a bit high. All I'm saying is that I know a few other places that have a tasty better value option in a similar setting.

I want to like the Bluenose, I really do. In fact, I DO like it. I just find it a little overpriced. I'm a big diner fan, and perhaps it's the prime downtown location that drives up the prices at the Bluenose because there are several places in this city where you can get more bang for your buck.

That said, I'll stop in for pie any day, any time. Just text me. Seriously.

Classic diner restaurant in the heart of Halifax, NS. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. For dinner, it looks like they serve seafood, but I only came in for breakfast.
On their breakfast menu, they got pancakes, bagel, omelette, typical full breakfast (sausage, bacon, egg, home fries).  Nothing really special....I don't know if it's fair to say that, but at least, really nothing special compared to brunches in Toronto / Montreal. I didn't go in with a very high expectation already, but I mean, I could probably make a better breakfast at home. Every item on the menu are supplied by vendor...nothing is homemade.

Price was so so.. a full breakfast is about $11, which has toast, sausage, three eggs, bacon and home fries. 1 egg + 2sausages + 2 pieces of toast is about $6 something.
    2 eggs + 3 sausages + home fries + 2 toast is about $7 something.

Consider this place your greasy "fish and chips" diner cousin to your greasy burger joint.  Lots of choices on the menu and portions are just right.  Family atmosphere.

I had the fish and chips and my friend had a veggie burger.

    Service was prompt and polite.

Star ratings aside, the Bluenose is fantastic for what it is. It's the go-to downtown diner for all-day breakfast, a handful of lovely Greek dishes, or a quick 'home-cooked' meal in the middle of a busy work day.

It's cheap, it's fast, it's friendly and it's satisfying. Is it going to blow your tastebuds away? Probably not. But if this place were to close and you were sitting at your desk with a hungover stomach, you'd damn well miss it, kids.

Also, their lemon-roasted potatoes just need to get in my face right this second.

I enjoyed my meal at the Bluenose II. The food was good, and the price was right. The restaurant is clean and the decor is surprisingly nice for a mid-range restaurant. The servers were friendly, but sadly the service was slow on this day. I asked for water twice and didn't get it until I got my bill. I did get coffee refills, but the first refill was slow in coming. I had to ask for the bill, and the server didn't mention that I had to pay at the front, so I sat at the table with my money in front of me waiting for someone to pick it up. I lost some walking-around time, but I'd forgive and would be willing to try it again given the quality of the food and how nice the restaurant is, and how well it's situated in downtown Halifax.

My two friends and I had breakfast there yesterday.

They had full breakfasts (one had steak and eggs and the other had bacon and eggs) and thought they were good.

I felt like having a BLT on a bagel ... but getting it on a bagel was confusing to our server for pricing so I had it on white bread instead.  It was okay ... the mayo had an old taste.

November 14 update:  We had breakfast there again this morning.  This time I had ham and eggs and it was good.

If you're up for a simple, no frills, but yummy meal, then head to Bluenose II.

In general, I sort of enjoy the 'frills' at restaurants but generally I don't enjoy paying a ton for what will amount to eggs and bacon.

In these instances, think of giving 'Bluenose II' a try!

If you are ever down trolling the down town area stop in to the Bluenose II and have a bite of some old fashion cooking.

When I go I either have the delicious large cheese burger and fries and gravy as I love the gravy here or if I am trying to be good I get the club on WW with fries of course.

Service is great and prices are better two average meals will run your about $22 bucks. Not only will the portions not leave you hungry the prices wont leave your wallet empty.

Everyone needs a greasy spoon in their life.  When I worked in downtown Halifax, the Bluenose II was mine.  For months, I met a friend there for breakfast daily - bottomless coffee cups and toast were our standbys.  When I found out I was pregnant, I started refusing the coffee and explained why.  The next day, they had put a pot of decaf on to brew just in time for me to enjoy.  Now, that's service above and beyond what you tend to get these days.

This is the kind of restaurant to which you take your grandma.  The prices are decent, the food is familiar and attention is paid to your dining experience.  Best of all, the kitchen is quick with your order.   Booths ring the centre (tabled) dining area, offering both options for whichever option you find more comfortable.

The Bluenose II has typical Nova Scotia offerings:  various sandwiches, fried offerings, soups and chowders.  You're not going to find nouveau cuisine here, but what you do get is delicious and hot, and it keeps you coming back.

I know that lots of tourists head over to get inexpensive lobster dinners at the Blue Nose II, I've never done that, although I'm thought about it many times.

What I do love is their family style breakfasts and the fact that the restaurant opens at 7am during the week and is just down the street from my husband's office. It means we get to do "date" breakfasts every once in a while and all on the cheap too!

The Bluenose II is the place to go for that great regular meal.  Nothing fancy here, back to basic, but these guys do it well.

This is a very popular spot in the downtown core. The clubhouse is great.  Just about everything here is great, judging from the crowds it gets.

I ate there twice while on jury duty. Staff from the court house recommended it. Very busy during lunch but staff are fast and efficient. The specials are usually really good. One of the best lasagnas I have had in a long time. They have cheap lobster dinners when cruise ships are in, so this is a good time to snag a deal. Its been around forever so you know they are doing something right. recommended.

Sometimes when you're downtown you just want a plain old club sandwich with no pretensions - no chioptle mayo, no foccacia, no pancetta. The Bluenose is straight up.  Fish and Chips, burgers, and Greek dishes are just as expected: good, not fancy, but tasty and affordable.  Good place to take the family, or to have a simple lunch. Friendly staff, and you can grab a booth and watch the action on the street, or enjoy their outdoor patio in summer.
