Blue Teapot - an innocent little tea store tucked inside the Capilano Mall. So easy to ignore sandwiched in between other larger shops. I passed by the store twice already and never gave a second thought to come inside. But with my fondness for loose leaf teas, I was eventually drawn.
The tea ware that they sell, well, it's not my type. A little too colourful (too kitchy, perhaps) for my simple taste. So I honestly would advise to ignore the tea pots and go straight for the wall-to-wall display of tea leaves.
There's just too much. My tummy aches. I can't decide. I want to try all of it despite my measly budget.
The main attraction for me are the oodles of Rooibos teas (a plant from the South African region used to make these herbal teas). You can drink them at any time of the day or night. There is no caffeine. Nada. Zero. Zilch. And there is no danger of over-steeping them because they don't become bitter. In fact they are naturally sweet. You can steep them for days even. That's if you can resist drinking in a few minutes.
The basic Rooibos plant produces a reddish brown colour versus the old familiar pale green, yellow or brown coloured teas. However, the magical part is when it's mixed with other ingredients like blueberry, mango, peach, ginger, lemon peel, apple, orange, strawberry, vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate, the works!
Don't be afraid to smell the teas. The store has see-thru jars just for that. The teas taste almost how your nose perceives it.
For starter, try the Rooibos Surprise or Rooibos Blueberry. Feel like having dessert in your mouth, but not really in the mood for the calories. Get the Rooibos Choco Mint. Don't want something sweet? The Rooibos Creativity with it's lemon-peppery-ginger ingredients might help.
Although online Blue Teapot sells their teas in minimum 100g bags. In store you can sample 50g bags. That's what I buy so I can hoard a few and still leave space for more in the cupboard. Pricing is spot on.
Oh, and don't be shy looking around smelling the samples. The salesperson is very accommodating. If you have questions, she'll be there. Want to be left in la la land, she'll leave you alone.
At this store, tea drinkers it doesn't feel like your in Heaven yet. But I swear I can hear Angels sing whenever I'm at Blue Teapot. -

I really like this place!
Its sort of small but they have very interesting blends of tea, and each one is laid out in sample ramekins so you can test smell at your own pace. The worker there is usually knowledgeable and don't pester or pressure you, very honest and eager to showcase different things. I also love the fact that you can buy it at a smaller quantity of 50g, whereas most other tea places sell by the 100g. So you can try a small bag, and if you like it, great! Come back for the bigger bag next time.
When I first went in there, I couldn't resist the smell of Savannah Green Rooibos. Since then, I have also enjoyed the Energy Booster and Bourbon Vanilla (it's the alcoholic in me) and many others.
Also if you're looking to find a tea sachet for loose leaf, this place has it cheaper than anywhere else I've looked.Listed in: Tea Lovers
