Thousand Oaks, CA
A nice spot for breakfast or lunch on the north end of town.
We stopped in here for breakfast before a trip into Archie McPhee's around the corner. Everything was good and it was quick. We joked that the kitchen must have known what we were going to ordered, because our omelet and pancakes arrived within in minutes. The staff was polite and attentive. Definitely worth trying again. -

Decent but fairly forgettable.
When I need a quick breakfast before meeting a client in Wallingford, Blue Star is a pretty good choice, it's decent diner food with a generally nice staff. Each time I've come I've been lucky enough to get good servers.
I generally go for the omelets because alot of the platters are just not up to snuff for my tastes, but the omelets are consistently good.
Not much else really to say but while I wouldn't make a special trip to Blue Star, if I'm in the area... I'd come by again.

Great service! We were seated and served promptly. We each had a burger, which was ok, but nothing special compared to Red Mill or Blue Moon. I had the side salad which was packaged shredded iceberg lettuce. -

This is my brother's fav place for breakfast so I normally go with him when he's in town. I've never had a disappointing breakfast/brunch and the scone and raspberry jam are YUMMY.
Staff is pleasant but don't expect them to be overly friendly! -
Review from Ariel Z.
I've only been here for breakfast, so I can't speak for the rest of the menu. But their breakfast menu is large, with a huge selection of scrambles, omelets, griddle foods, and other greasy spoon options. Most dishes come with a choice of toast, english muffin, or scone, which is exciting to me. They also have seasonal specials, it seems - I had the green eggs and ham, which had avocado, green onions, zucchini, ham and parmesan in it; it was delicious! I may or may not have had a short stack of pancakes with it. The boy enjoyed his biscuits and gravy.
Our server, Angela, was really sweet and made our morning very cheerful. She also didn't judge me for eating enough for three people. I have a breakfast stomach, okay? We always had full coffee mugs and service was really friendly and fast. We did go a bit earlier than usual (around 9 am on a Saturday morning) so it wasn't too full; on other occasions we've had to wait for a table for weekend brunch. The place is your basic neighborhood restaurant, very easy-going and very Seattle, with its cage-free eggs and options for soy cheese and what not. It's something I appreciate, though it's not necessarily something I require in a brunch spot. However, they've got a bar and an alcoholic menu, so if you want your Bloody Marys in the morning, this is the place. Also, if you check in with Yelp and notify your server, you get 10% off the bill! -

If I ate here more often they'd have to put my name on a booth. Highly vegan friendly, which for brunch is not as common as you'd think. The coffee is best described by Twin Peaks' Dale Cooper, "Excuse me, that is a damn fine cup of coffee -- and hot!".
Most importantly though, they have this habanero hot sauce that is more addictive than crack cocaine. Seriously. Don't miss it. -
Review from Ryan W.
Came here on a Thursday with my wife, whic happened to be their "Burger night" and we're sure glad we chose that night!
They have a HUUGE menu of burgers to choose from - I didn't countly exactly how many, but it looked like at least 20-25 different burgers on the menu. I went with the "PB and Chipotle" burger and my wife had a "Bacon Burger" of some sort.
I was anxious to try something a burger that had peanut butter in it and our server said it was "DELICIOUS." When the burger came, it was a little dissappointed. The Peanut butter didn't come through too much - at best it had a subtle hint of it. I personally would have enjoyed a little more PB flavor, especially since it was a staple ingredient in the burger! My wife's burger was pretty good. The bacon slices were thick and crispy. The fries they serve were very tasty and well seasoned!
They have such a huge menu (outside of their burger selection) that reads very tasty, that it is on that point alone, I'll want to come back! -

This place is pretty great. Free street parking. Open early for breakfast and alcohol on weekdays. Not too crowded. They have the best onions in the bloody mary. Plus they are very decorative to look at, olives and celery too. You can even get bacon vodka. My last one was not so great, but the one before was a million times better. Lots of healthy options instead of just potatoes with your breakfast, fresh fruit is a good choice, so is the side salad. Any of the scrambles can be made with tofu although it doesnt say this on the menu, server was kind enough to point it out. They even have veggie sausage (does contain egg). Had the most unusual tofu scramble ever with pieces of shredded tofu I had no idea this was even possible. Defintely will be back. Boyfriend seems happy with the breakfast options, we always struggle to find a place that meets all of our needs and this may be it.

I have been to this place a few times and have enjoyed it each time. To start off, I have never had to wait very long to be seated which is nice. Each time I have ordered the build your own omelet, starting at $7.95, and I would get bacon, sausage and pepper jack cheese. The omelets are very hearty and packed with tons of meat and cheese. I also chose the grilled red potatoes, which are very delicious, and whole wheat toast.
As for the breakfast I enjoy it very much. The Cafe has a great atmosphere and the service has always been very friendly.Listed in: Delicious breakfast spots.

Popped in here real quick for a brew while I waited for my dinner reservations. Looks like a cool place. Nice selection of beverages. I will come back for dinner and a more proper review. I love that they have Trumer Pils!

I met my friend Erin here for brunch one morning and was very happy with it! I had not trouble finding a spot to park and really liked the location.
With so much to choose from on the menu I had a hard time trying to pick something! I got the brazilian omelet and LOVED it! I'll be coming back for sure! -

UGH!!!! This place was HORRIBLE!!! The service was decent I guess, but the shitty food demolished any chance of me ever going back.
I ordered their special 'Blue Star Burger', which had herbs and yummy stuff mixed in the meat. I figured it was a pricier burger, $11, so it was decent meat and therefore I ordered it rare. I had the sweet potato french fries with their garlic aioli. This is what saved the meal. The burger was a hockey puck and so chewy I struggled to get it down. What's the point of adding special things to the burger if you're just going to grill the shit out of it and get rid of any taste anyways? And charge me $11 for it to boot!! Ridiculous.
My boyfriend ordered a sandwich and clam chowder which arrived lukewarm, at best. He told the server that it was cold, and the server said he'd warm it up. Warm it up he did, right in the microwave. Any decent server would know to dump that out and bring a fresh, HOT bowl of soup. We could have had clam chowder out of the can and it would have been the same shitty taste, but at least we would have made it hot enough.
The ONLY thing that saved this place was their fries!! And the fact that my boy and I made our relationship official here. What came out of his mouth, "I wish we would have picked a better place to eat." Definitely. At least we have a funny story?
I will never go back, nor will I ever recommend this place to anybody, ever. Don't do it. -

I've gone now for brunch and dinner and LOVE this place! The service is great with super friendly staff. They kept my coffee filled and at night, sold me with their local brews. It's a fabulous neighborhood place, but definitely worth a drive for the positive vibe and the reasonable prices. They take reservations now too although we were there at 6pm on a Thursday and didn't wait long.

Blue Star used to be our go-to hangover breakfast/brunch. You show up at least a half an hour earlier than you think you should, and maybe you'll be seated a half hour later than you'd like.
But it's so worth it. Get a big glass of water, some coffee, and an extra spicy bloody mary, and then order up the egg dish of your choice (there's no stinkers on the menu) with a side of potatoes, and it will put even the biggest bender behind you.
Quick Tip: Order the scone and ask for it to be delivered before your main dish. It'll put a delicious layer of padding in your tummy before the main event.
These days I thankfully avoid most hangovers, and there's nothing particularly outstanding about their lunch and dinner menu to make it worth the trek from Ballard. But they do have a really nice beer selection and the grub is solid, so it's an easy and safe choice if you're in the neighborhood and none of the other options in Wallingford grab your attention.
As for the space itself, the main dining room is rather cozy despite the towering ceilings and massive windows looking onto busy Stone Way. Tile floors with wood furniture accompanied by brass fixtures and accents give it an old pub-like feel in the main space, while the smaller rooms at the north and south of the building feel a little more a cafe. I generally prefer the bar area, but the northernmost booths are nice and intimate if you want a quieter meal.
Bonus Quick Tip: Parking can be a challenge, but I've frequently gotten lucky a block north by the post office. -
Review from Opal D.
I came here about 3 years ago and didn't really care for it, but because I drive by it all the time, decided to give it another try a couple weekends ago.
Blue Star has a large menu, mediocre service, average food, but what turns me off is that everything feels old - cracks in the seat cushions, yellowed menu covers...
Not my favourite and I probably won't come again. -

Dropped by Sat. morning for brunch before heading down portland. It was pretty empty when we showed up around 10 but there were lines by 11.
Very neighborhood hole in the wall kind of place, with down to earth feel to it. Great coffee constantly refilled that definitely cheered me up.
I ordered the egg monterey that came piled HIGH on a plate, with fruits and herb biscuit. Could have made 2 meals out of it. Very decently priced with great tasting food. -

OH BABY! I love this place, my boyfriend and I came here last night for dinner and seriously fell in love, the burgers were AMAZING, I had the honey mustard chicken with a salad, My boyfriend got a south of the border burger. AND we got 10% off our check by checking in via Yelp! WOO HOO. anyways we found our new favorite place to eat.
The only thing is parking can be a bit tricky. but I dont care, so worth it. -

I recently stopped in for breakfast this week with my husband. We were impressed by the huge list of breakfast egg dishes and definitely had a hard time picking one out. We noticed the great selection of microbrews while waiting for our breakfast and we'll definitely be back to try out some dinner and grab a drink.
Our meals were so delicious and the service was great. I'd come back here in a heartbeat! -

We only had drinks here, but I loved the atmosphere and would have gladly sat there all afternoon and evening. We were able to munch on some peanuts while we enjoyed happy hour drinks. Nice drink selection.

Typical diner fare--nothing too special, but I appreciate the great service, especially on a busy Sunday. I had the California burger with side salad. It hit the spot, but nothing to rave about. Boyfriend's bacon waffle was darn tasty, right up there with Captain Black's.
This is a good neighborhood restaurant if you're in the mood for burgers, omeletes and the like. I was disappointed that they don't serve pancakes on weekends. Also, don't forget to check in for 10% off your bill! -

This is a 5 STAR HAPPY HOUR SPOT.
And why?
Well hell, whats not to like about $2.95 plate of meaty Buffalo Wings, super good fried green beans and decent string onion rings and beers something like $3.50 each for good IPA's. Yeah it standard happy hour food fair... So affordable too and not over charged and decent portions for sharing.
Yep, Happy hour items only $2.95.
Choose wisely and you wont be disappointed.
Now I haven't been here for breakfast/lunch/dinner or regular menu items and that is not what this review is for. This review is for drinkin and eatin between the hours of 4-6, and walking out spending no more than $20.00 bucks. Damn this town needs more places like this.
Perfect place to spend a Sunday Happy Hour before the work week starts again. Not too packed, comfortable bar. -

Good burgers, awesome breakfast, and an amazing rotating beer selection. And it's right down the street from me.

Blue Star never really knocked my socks off, but I have had some really solid average food there, minus the less than average hummus I had there last week (lets just forget that happened).
They have a pretty good selection of rotating beers available. You can also get a pretty good burger there with sweet potato fries. Can't go wrong with sweet potato fries!
Also they have a cool 10% off check in deal! I have used it twice already! -

One of the best hamburgers ever. It was the half pound angus. Alot of food though. Split it with my wife and we were both full, the fries had a thin batter and were delicious as well.

This is my favorite breakfast joint in Seattle. I love the home fries (sliced new potatoes), and the variety of eggs, scrambles and omelets is legion (pages and pages of combinations). This is one of the few breakfast places that has enough turnover to make getting in fairly easy (there's always a wait on weekends, but things move right along).
Favorites include Eggs Monterey, Black bean omelet, just eggs with meat (eggs, bacon and potatotes), and the Laguna scramble.
BTW, this is not the place to do pancakes or eggs benedict -- for that, I'd head elsewhere. But for omelets and scrambles, this is the place. -

Places like this make me wish the old Ballard Denny's hadn't been demolished to make way for the throngs of tasteless yuppie breeders who keep the Blue Star in business. I've held a grudge against this place ever since they started giving a 20% discount to Microsoft employees. And yet I find myself here on occasion because it is "kid-friendly" and many of my friends have kids and they have already been to Tutta Bella twice that week. By "kid-friendly" I mean the truly wondrous experience begins as the hapless servers give you a resigned, annoyed look because they know they are going to be scraping spaghetti and kid boogers out of the carpet for the next 90 minutes. Then you receive your gristly, leathery burger and proceed to attempt ingesting it against your better judgement as a table full of the Microsoft geeks dissect the excruciating minutiae of their 520 bridge commute and then calculate their bill split using Microsoft smart phones (also employee-discounted).
If you favor demolishing old buildings and replacing them with cookie-cutter condos and also strongly support giving rich people discounts they don't need, then by all means, continue to patronize this tiny little slice of Wallingford hell. -

I'm addicted to the egg burrito. My wife is addicted to the Norwegian pancakes. Fast service, particularly on to go orders. I love it.

Review from Jen B.
I loved this place! The customer service is superb! Somebody was there to greet you when you walked in, get you something to drink, and offer suggestions without being over bearing and annoying.
I had the veggie burger, fries, and 9lb porter- not particularly memorable, but pubs aren't really known for their veggie options.
What I didn't like is the server did not give me my 10% off discount from checking in, I even handed him my phone. My friend got his and the guy actually re-printed his receipt to give him the discount. I was feeling nice and happy because everything else was great, so I decided not to break his kneecaps over this incident.
I'll be back because I love the feeling like I'm part of the neighborhood, and to try out their other menu items. -
Review from Amy H.
On a Thursday night, I went here with a group of over 10 people. We were able to quickly find a table in the bar, and the servers immediately brought out waters for each of us. There was a number of them working, and they all were working their best to get us our menus, drinks and food quickly. Great service, indeed!
However, the food was just bad. Don't bother with a side salad, you'll get bland romaine lettuce, stale radishes, and a small wedge of flavorless tomato. The sweet potato fries weren't much better, but it's hard to go terribly wrong with sweet potato fries. Although, they are served with a side of applesauce, which is weird. The burger I had was below average. The bun was stale, and the avocados were not yet ripe. The onions were chopped into small pieces, and the lettuce was shredded, which made it impossible to put on your burger. I was hungry, and ate it. But, I won't be back to try it again. -

Such a rad place. My family and I love this place so much we celebrate everything here: graduation celebration, engagement celebration, end of the school year dinner with our son (started 1st grade and not ending 4th grade year), birthdays, date night and "guys night" when us husbands get together.
Great food! Always paleo options or anyway you want your food! Love it! -

Blue Star. Coffee is not very good, but there sure is a lot of it. Egg dishes tend to be a bit too cheesy and dried out, but with the plethora of ingredients, it usually works out. Great beer selection. The dinners I've had there are meh - ok, but not great. I am a breakfast connoisseur, so I tend to go to a place like Blue Star in the morning. Overall, the food is plentiful, hot, reasonably tasty, and not that expensive.
Service is pretty good. Ambience is that of a diner/sports bar. I've never had to wait longer than about 15 minutes for a table, and the counter is usually open. -

I was looking forward to trying Blue Star because I always love to check out new places. Sadly, I was very disappointed with my visit.
My friend and I went here for lunch on Labor Day. We were seated almost immediately, which was great. The hostess took our drink order and brought us our beverages quickly. She was very friendly and helpful and told us that our waitress would arrive soon to take our food order. We waited nearly TWENTY minutes for someone to come take our order. Honestly, if I had been alone...I would have left. Several people stopped by during this time saying that they would be "right with us," but it never happened. Finally, someone took our order, but by that time, I was feeling pretty aggravated.
I ordered the Blue Star Garden Burger. It was pretty darn good. I liked the havarti cheese and the pesto aioli. I had the BBQ baked beans on the side.....they were okay but nearly cold. I would have asked our waitress to bring me warm beans, but she was MIA for a while after bringing our food out.
My friend had a turkey sandwich and complained that it was dry. I tried a bite of it and holy cow that turkey tasted like sawdust! Gross.
Thirty minutes or so after we left Blue Star, both of our stomachs started hurting. I had varying stomach pains for the rest of the day.
I highly doubt I will be back here, unless it is for breakfast, as I have heard it is decent. Otherwise, my impressions from this last visit will keep me away for a while.Listed in: Super Sandwiches!, Burger Me.
