It's well worth the hassle of calling ahead to make an appointment to taste their wines (and make sure you do call or you'll be disappointed). If you're not from the area, make sure to get directions when you talk to them!

You turn off Highway 97 onto Oliver Ranch Road. You go up, down, and curve around a fair ways until you reach a small side road. Then this road winds around the mountain, through the vineyard, turns into a dirt road, keeps winding ... finally you make it to the parking lot for the winery.

But the reward! Whoa! It's the most incredible view of Vaseaux Lake and the mountains, which look blue from here hence the name of the winery. That's before you step inside the intimate tasting room and get a tasting with loads of personal attention.

Their wines are all delicious. They make small lots of pretty much everything, so the selection really varies as they sell out quickly. Their sparkling brut is amazing and worth the drive out here alone. And at $23.90 a bottle it's not bank-breaking bubble, either.

If you can get your hands on any of their striped label Pinot Noir, do it! It goes for around $35. I also love their Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris with fish or in the summer or in the afternoon ... or anytime, really.

Make the call. Drive the adventure. Savour the wines and then stock up!

Oh, they have a really nice dog, too! :)
