Review from Lynn H.
Toronto, ON
It's been a few years since we've switched from Blue Circle. We were referred there when we first moved back to Calgary. I'll start by saying that the staff is friendly and that's what Blue Circle sells itself on. It pretty much ends there. My sister switched and so did my brother. The rates offered are such a rip off!!! They seem to deal with several companies but not one offers a competitive rate??? Seriously? For my husband's car he had to pay an outrageous rate +$2500 deductible!!! To top it off we got our house insurance from there as well and we overlooked a bill so it got cancelled and our mortgage lender slapped us a bill of $250 because they had to cover our house insurance. (this would never happen at Allstate because Alice would personally call us and let us know our premiums were due if she noticed the date was drawing near. See my review on Allstate Crowfoot.) We ended up switching to Allstate because his deductible ended up being the normal $500 or $1000 and you get a discount for multiple insured property.
My brother had to switch house insurance because they jacked up his premium to $1600/yr for house insurance from $700 because his credit rating got botched!! (Never agree to co-sign for a loan!!) To top it off he wanted to cancel so he asked for his policy number and the receptionist said someone will call him back and no one did!! So he had to go there in person, pay for parking, waste his day and demand for someone to give it to him. Unbelievable!!! They know you're planning to cancel so they purposely give you the run-around!! They did it to my sister too!!
Also for premiums to be taken monthly from your bank account it is a super hassle. You can't just provide them with a void cheque. You need to go in person and sign 10-12 mock cheques with your account number on it. Who has time for that??? Parking is not free. If you park on the street after 3:30pm you get a ticket or towed. Going in there is a total chore because it's always a minimum of 45 minutes.
I only gave them 1 extra star for being friendly. Otherwise with the outrageous premiums, hassles, parking issues, etc etc etc they'd only be getting 1 star.
